- Hey friends, We have been looking forward to driving the Great Ocean Road for a LONG time, ever since we started our vanlife road trip around Australia. Victoria lived up to its reputation and gave us four seasons in one day, every day, but we loved our time down here.
We visit the highlights, of course, (see how we almost missed the Twelve Apostles altogether!) and we also check out some hidden gems in the hinterland. Including a beautiful forest drive we'd never even heard of.

Looks amazing!!!!!! I love watching your videos on my laptop, with my phone in hand, marking all the wonderful places to go in my wikicamps app. The first half reminded me of Tassie and the second half reminded me of Kangaroo Island - especially the bitter winds! (we went to KI in June over 20 years ago. Brrr!) Good incentive to get out early to avoid the hoards of tourists. Love the blooper reel ;-)

The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage-listed 240-kilometre (150 mi) stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia, between the Victorian towns of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932, and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world's largest war memorial.
Thank you for the reminder! We did learn that on our journey and meant to put it in one of the voiceovers. We also found it interesting that it was once a toll road.
Just discovered your channel and apart from the Gold Coast,Melbourne and Cairns there is so much more of Aussie I would love to see one day you guys desverve more subscribers.

I did the Great Ocean Rd July 2022 and loved it. It was freezing and windy but we were rugged up with beanies and gloves and coats. I would love to go back and spend more time there.
It’s definitely worth spending a bit of extra time there. We loved it, despite the cold

That's our neck of the woods! Spent many years doing trips there for summer. (About an hours drive from where we live) and now our daughter lives in Torquay (Jan Juc) Love it! So many beautiful spots to visit.
It’s amazing! I’ll probably head back down there early December while Nigel is away at work
My number 1 tip would be do it in summer. But good on you guys for braving Victoria's weather.

The GOR is an amazing piece of tarmac. I have done it twice on the bike but it can be a bit hairy especially when a tour bus fill of overseas tourists decides to pull up in the middle of the road on a blind corner to take photos. All I can say is the language from me was a little salty. On a nice day it is spectacular but when the weather turns nasty it can be a real challenge.
I think it would be epic on a bike if there was no other traffic! It’s scary enough in the van

Cool , I don't know how legal those no drone signs are , CASA is the only one that can restrict air space as far as I know
Seems to be all the national parks, except WA!!
I really enjoyed watching your journey, given we just traveled along there last week. We traveled a bit fast though, just one day from Torquay to Warnambool, then on to Portland. Having the dog made it a bit more difficult as you can't take them into the national parks including the lookout for the 12 apostles. I did go down for a look though, while my husband stayed back with the dog. We got to look a bit more around Portland which was very interesting with two light houses, and a Gannet colony. I'll be down this way until early January, as my husband has just gone to Dubbo to do a contract, so maybe I can get to look around a bit more on my own. Meanwhile, thanks to 'two icons' for the video and the great footage Lol.
Yeah we would love to have a dog, and this is why we don’t. Portland was interesting, we stayed there for a night after the drive

It’s an awesome drive. I can’t imagine how crowded it would be in summer though.
Even in bloody summer, it can be so freezing at times, down there! LOL

I've driven the GOR once in my van and 3 times on my motorcycle and you could never weary of the views. They are sublime.
However I'm a Tasmanian and I believe the East Coast of Tassie could put up a case to be even more beautiful.... Definitely more accessible.

Yes pretty sure they brought some saplings over from California. They are definitely not native here

No we are up near Broken Hill at the moment. Didn’t know there was an earthquake!
