- This is a Lincoln Mercury Dealer Association commercial for their Used Car program. Many 71, 72 and 73 on the lots.......only if that was still true today........if there was even a Mercury Dealer still on the Planet.

Loved the styling on my 74 Monterey! Those fender skirts made it look so cool! Bought it used sometime in the early to mid 80s. Paid seven hundred dollars for it! Enjoyed it for a few years, then someone smashed into the rear fender while I was parked. Appraiser gave me six hundred dollars for the damage. Obviously, you don't pay six hundred dollars to repair a seven hundred dollar car. So the great car I liked so much only cost me one hundred dollars!!! Drove it around damaged for a couple of years then moved on to something else. Wish I had it now!!!

"And the gas mileage you can get in these late model Mercurys may surprise you...." I just had to laugh when I heard that line. Well, it was 1974 after all, and economy was on everyone's mind. As an owner of a '70 Country Squire with a 429-4V, I can attest to how "surprising" the gas mileage is on these 429's and 460's. Too bad it's not "surprising" in a good way. This commercial is awesome though - thanks so much for posting!
Alex H I had a 1970 XL convertible with the 390 2-V. Typical mileage was between 8-9mpg. 14 if it was straight highway driving. But thar gal could haul ass and leave most people with a view of two beautiful taillights!
