- Today in Japan, following a successful coup by the Young Officers the country will be transformed back into a Shogunate, which will choose to follow the Northern Strike doctrine. The Land of the Rising Sun must put itself into position to be capable of taking on the Soviet bear.
Along the way new alliances will be found, old grievances will come to end as new friendships are founded. But will it be enough, will the modern Shogunate ready for when duty calls.

I heard something about this path being alright in mp, so I decided to see what it's like in sp. Two different gamemods I know, so let's say your results may vary.
Anyway, this was another video where it's production was a rollercoaster. But in the end, it's here. So I can rest easy with that.

@@thebuttonman9901 Yeah, but in the Shogunate Era, the Emperor was more like a powerless figurehead. Would be cool if "Modern Shogunate" gives you a Shogun as leader and Hirohito as national modifier for stability (+60%) like the democratic path does.
There’s some mods that rework that path and let’s you put the Tokugawa family back in charge

Here's an interesting idea: Divide the Shogunate and Emperor Showa focuses into their own separate sub-branches. Maybe "Modern Shogunate" could be similar to Ethiopia's "Federal Empire" focus, dividing Japan into puppet states that develop on their own faster than they would united, and "Emperor Showa" simply gives Hirohito new traits for extra PP, extra daily Compliance gain, or to remove the debuffs from the Army/Navy balancing mechanic.
Ngl dope idea. The only thing that could go worse is dockyard output. Because you gave your dockyards to puppets it would be impossible to make a navy to rival USA. If you code so it does not give dockyards to puppets it could be awsome.
@@bltsevdallarfanclub641 Maybe special puppet type for Japanese Shogunate? You can't use their factories (or maybe half of them) but you can use their dockyards manually. When a war happens, which will only be triggered by a major nation declares war on us, we can use their armies without them commanding.
You ignored the main benefit of going this path. Getting the wargoal on China without the Marco polo debufs. You can steamroll Mao and China. Then turn your focus on the Soviets. They will still have tons of debufs. Mongolia and Tanu Tuva will have supply depots so you connect it to your rail road and then push to cut the 1 main soviet railroad and all there troops in the western half will be on low supply. You can mop up that whole side and just push along the railway until you get to Stalingrad.
Fair enough, didn't think of the Marco Polo stuff. Tho those provocation wargoals can appear with any path so they aren't a benefit unique to this tree.

I feel like each nation should have a unique bit, and Japan having a free Total Mobilization is definitely important, and not even enough to make Japan stand out among majors. If you factor in bicycle battalions, sure.
Japanese focus "The Zero" allows you to produce the plane without it being researched.

the way to fix this branch is to lock it behind Japan's Inter-Service Rivalry decisions. The Imperial Army wanted to attack the USSR while the Imperial Navy wanted to attack the USA and European possession in Southeast Asia so picking the Prioritize Steel For Guns Decision should send you down this branch. This branch should have big buffs for the Army while having massive debuffs for the Navy and should lead to the Navy starting a civil war if you start loosing against the USSR or don't beat the USSR in a certain amount of time. There should also be an option to peace-out with the USSR if you take specific provinces and hold them for a set amount of time. Or, you should switch over to this branch if you win the Test The Soviets Decision border conflict.

For some reason ahistorical japan always does the shogunate.
In my manchuria achievement run they went communist.
They sometimes also go democratic, but when they go democratic, most of the time they lose against fascist Japan in the civil war or the civial war takes until like 1944.
I usually pick this path over the historical one. It gives you 3 things you want more of as Japan, PP, research and civs. You still get China and you can get a good piece of the ussr (best I've done is as far west as the line Astrakhan/Kaukasus) before going to war with allies. The only downside is not getting french indochina.
I wasn't aware of the declare war decision for shogun Japan but unless they've patched it you should also be able to use the coordinated strike mission to get around the NAPs

The japanese focustree needs a rework just like italy got. with balance of power system between Navy and Army. This system would be also nice in the german tree, between SS and Wehrmacht.

Honestly, all the Japanese paths except communism are fun in a way. But they really need more focuses.
So much of this path is so weird like how you don't get a Shogun or that you don't go after China and instead Russia
But won't come China after Japan anyways because China as well as Communist China get a "go to war with Japan" focus which the AI will do anyways?
Yea especially since Hideyoshi’s dream was to conquer China and become the new heavenly emperor. Maybe a larpy japan-China empire formable? We already have Byzantines and Rome why not a cursed Sino-Japanese empire lol
@sto1238 that would be too powerful. You'd have all the benefits of being china, whilst also having the japanese military and research slots and wouldn't face any resistance.

The only good thing about the japanese focuses is getting a Zero production variant: you get a free (well, you exchange a lot of time for it) Improved Small Carrier Airframe with tier-3 engine. It's 1940-s tech that you can get really early. Also you can easily convert it to CAS, lol.

It makes no f-ing sense not just because of the Shogunate being led by an emperor, but also because Kodoha didn't like the idea of Shogunate AND were much, much more Nazi than Toseiha.
The thing about Militarist Japan easily having Total Mob and Spiritual Mob really reflects IRL Japan.
Should've added a Shogun tho', Sadao Araki would suffice. I like Showa Restoration path more.

@@AdmiraHax, Hagakure is a real good mod to properly represent Imperial Japan, IMO. They even have several Shogun options depending on which part of the military who are dominating.

Japan could really do with the Balance of Power mechanics, since the Army and Navy had a serious rivalry.
I played this path recently. Used the provocation to invade China without marco debuffs which meant I was done by late 38. Only then joined the axis so all my troops and navy were in position to invade UK as soon as Danzig or War fires. Dealt with the allies. Invaded the Soviets was pretty easy. Waited around for US to declare war since I can invade from Canada but it was mid 42 and they still hadn't declared so I called it there.
Although I share the sentiment that this path really needs to be expanded.
The entire Japanese focus tree needs a rework in my opinion. After By Blood Alone they now have the worst focus tree of the major powers in my opinion.
