It would be really helpful if you guys identified the tartans you are wearing in each Video.
A perfect analogy with the house upgrades . Easy to replace the carpet....difficult to replace the foundation . So true . Put your money into the best kilt you can afford with basic accessories and upgrade after that . My first sporran is a basic day sporran and I still use it for walking or where I don't want to wear a better sporran ( bonfires etc. ) .
I have one that represents my military history, one for my profession, and one for ren fest (lightweight, polyviscose as the southern temp is humid and hot), and will be ordering several that represent my Scottish and Welsh lineage.

Should point out to the beginner the kilt is just the start of the cost. You add the sporran and chain, kilt hose, shoes and all the knives and a top and it can spiral out of control.
The united states could help spread the use of kilts to everyone, as without a doubt it is very comfortable and practical clothing, especially for men, today many countries use several similar types, and it would be very interesting for fashion, in addition to one more clothing option.

That's the Scruffy Wallace tartan. It's one that Rocky designed for Scruffy Wallace (formerly from the band Dropkick Murphys). Unfortunately, it's been discontinued.
So here's a question you may not get much. I have a CCW permit and carry at all times it's legal to do so. Normally it's in an IWB holster (inside the waistband) on my strong side at about 4 o'clock. Pretty sure that's going to be difficult in a kilt as the belts are a bit over 2.25" are they not? Have you ever had the question? Any ideas?
USA Kilts makes a Kilt that has a pants belt loop inside the kelt belt loop. I hope that helps.
@@BallooNeccesities Thanks for your thoughtfulness! I did work through this. The draw from a kilt waistband is too high as it turns out. I read an article from another guy on this, and ended up getting a garter holster from Can Can Concealment. Although their primary market is women they've made many holsters for men wearing kilts as it turns out. I did a custom order and they have fabulous customer service and ideas. They also matter-of-factly noted that they would change the ribbon to black paracord and offered a stitching pattern that would be more pleasing to a man, as well as removing the lace from the garter belt! That last isn't strictly necessary but I decided it would be a good idea from a safety POV and I was right! I didn't have the holster tight enough on my first outing (after wearing it all day around the house with an unloaded weapon the day before). As I was walking into a store the holster slipped. If it hadn't been for the garter belt it would have been around my ankle! I just pretended everything was fine, visited the rest room and made the necessary wardrobe adjustment. One cannot be too careful with firearms! Thanks again!

Just wear a Scottish Murdock pistol, a dirk, and Scottish broadsword. Nobody will mess with you lol.

what kind of kilt would be good to wear casually? I'm in to punk style so would wear it with like combat boots and the kind of stereotypical punk stuff. Was thinking maybe a simple black utility kilt with a few decorations but maybe a tartan kilt would work? I have been searching but there aren't many articles targeted towards wearing a kilt for punk people.
I'm kinda in the same boat, although I will say though I've seen Johnny Rotten and Sid Viscous in Royal Stewart as well as Zakk Wylde, and Axle Rose. I've also seen Zakk in MacLeod.

I am going to order a second kilt soon. I Have MacLean Dress Modern (Locharron) 16oz.- 8yrd. I want to order MacLean Hunting (Locharron) probably 13oz.- 5yrd. But I am not sure which; Modern or Ancient is Worn for Formal or Casual or both. I usually ask; What would the Clan Chief Do? Unfortunately I never see enough of him to tell one way or the other. Oh Great Ones of the Tartan baur, lend me the benefit of your wisdom!

In your own opinions, for someone who is buying a universal tartan or whose clan tartan may not have a formal version, does how “busy” the tartan is affect the formality of it?
No. the tartan itself doesn't dictate how formal or informal an outfit it. The jacket, style of sporran, etc are the things that dictate the formality of an outfit.
Don't take my dad into account, a kilt, for him, it's a skirt for girls, for me, it's Scottish culture.
