@@jeannetteguerra3139 Had the interviewer stuck to the topic this could have been an excellent interview. As others have commented here, the interviewer was rather rude in that she attempted to veer Phil into areas that should have been kept private and had nothing to do with the Everly Brothers’ reunion. As I believe I stated in my comment, from 3 years ago, it was a good interview “in spite of it all.” I am gratified that Phil had the experience, professionalism, and wisdom, as another commenter stated by implication here, to avoid her intrusion into his private life. Only those who had some interest, by way of directly being involved and needing to know, had any right to be asking questions about his marriages/divorces and not having it be broadcasted to an international community. I think Phil understood that once anyone’s (especially if you are a public figure) private life is revealed, it’s difficult to retrieve any private information that may have leaked or to, if necessary, undo any harm to one’s reputation that it may have caused. So, it was a good topic but not a good interview. It was intrusive but Phil handled it beautifully. I love that the interview ended with his singing “Sweet Pretender,” which finally gave his fans here to not only the chance to hear his beautiful voice, but to bring home the fact that some people, just like this interviewer, are sweet pretenders, leaving Phil and others, wondering what that engaging smile really meant. I apologize for the lengthy reply but I am puzzled by your reply to my comment, which was quite straightforward in its intention.
I love the fact that Phil is actually singing and playing along to his track when je was just supposed to do playback. Although he sang sweet pretender, he never pretended anything!
I didn't understand why interviewer after interviewer had to be so bold and personal to ask him this question in the first place!! Of course, he handled the question just right!!!
Phil did good here but this lady reporter should NOT have been asking him some of the things that she did. Phil didn't have to answer why his 2 previous marriages ended. It was none of her business and not the time or place. You could tell Phil didn't want to talk about some of these things but he handled it very well and he did not take the bait. RIP, Phil. 🌹 PS...IMO, I think Phil would've had a nice solo career if he wouldn't have reunited with Don.
I agree with you about the rude reporter. She shouldn’t have been asking Phil about personal issues. I’m also cognizant of the fact that most public figures (and Phil had been performing a long time by then) know instinctively how to handle these out-for-the-story interviewers. On your second point, I’d always loved the Everly Brothers harmony and would have loved to hear more of the two together. However I think you may have been right about Phil having a solo career - his voice was so good. We’ll never know now but Phil did feel most comfortable in singing harmony. RIP Phil Everly.
@@chrisrushforth710 Yes, his solo work is excellent, Chris. His solo career was starting to take off in the UK and right around that time he reunited with Don. I recognize your name from Pinterest. I'm Colleen on there. I have a Phil board 😊 You have very nice pics of Phil.
As noted, Phil Everly shines in so many ways here; the opposite for Nationwide's ill-mannered impertinent forgettable presenter, Sue Lawley. Maybe problem was within as this interview would have been filmed (just?) before Nationwide's swansong which aired August 5th, 1983.
What a terrible interviewer. She didn't bother to prepare except to try to elicit some lurid details of his private life that he'd previously answered ad nauseam. I hope her news director gave her a good telling off. Interesting that he's singing live with the vocal playback.
What a gentleman and such class
Phil was a gentleman for this interview.
He is very honest and candid in his replies. He was such a good person based on his replies to interviewers.
What a class act Phil was with that interview. There was no reason or excuse at all for some of those questions.
Phillip is such a sweet singer,very loving❤️2021
So eine unsensible Frau. Phil ist ein unglaublich liebenswerter Mann
Ich fand diese Frau auch unmöglich
Phil was a good man. RIP💔
Phil did a great job here in spite of it all.
Lindo tema y buena entrevista.

She had an agenda and he just wasn’t biting.
Somehow I always preferred Phil ! No disrespect to Don but always loved the Everly Brothers since I was a 14 year old at school in 1950 🥰💕❤️

C'mon, lady, interview footages like this are very rare. Let. Him. Talk.
schöne Haare, Phil😊😊😊😊😊
These two brothers loved one another and I get tired of those that try to say something different.
she keeps interrupting him..let him talk...
A very patient man here.

Phil war schon zweimal verheiratet. Wusste ich gar nicht.

I always thought that too about Phil having a solo career. His solo albums are excellent.
