What a fabulous testimony! Go, Emily!!
I totally think mine was worth it. I think it all depends on how you use it. My husband is a trucker and he can take stuff on the road and save tons of money and I know he eats healthy most of the time. We buy on sale and in bulk. We’ve totally made our money back. And since I eat alone sometimes , it’s nice to be able to make a quick meal with ingredients we freeze dried and not have leftovers. That works for us. Others are different.
I love all this wonderful information. I love that I can freeze dry cheese! we eat a lot of cheese and that you mentioned left overs. I want to freeze dry eggs and milk. I would like to freeze dry my chicken & beef broth.
Thanks for making this video. This video had a lot of useful information, especially with respect to the idea that a freeze dryer requires a lot more maintenance than I expected. It's great that food can be stored for so long! Also, I had no idea that chocolate can't be freeze dried, but I guess that makes sense.
This was lovely because it comes from an elderly prospective which is vital!❤
Thanks so much for the informative videos. My wife and I are exploring all things preserve in one way or another and you videos have been really helpful. All the best!
I am slowly saving money to purchase a Harvest Right medium freeze dried because I would like to preserve a variety of meats that we eat. Currently, all the meat we eat is stored in the freezer, but should the power go out, and the generator runs out of gas, there goes the meat. By freeze drying it, I can still have something to cook with. But I do like the idea of having freeze dried cheese around.
I saw, on another channel, which I can't remember who it was, that the Harvest Right was a problem in that the seal was bad, and other things that they had to keep fooling with, buying more accessories to make it work. Not my personal experience since I don't have one, but perhaps anecdotal evidence is helpful. I've seen the Harvest Right advertised for YEARS, and I don't think that they had much competition until recently. So homework would be advised for such a large purchase. Thanks for your great videos!!
Way to go Emalie! Thank you Kylene for sharing this video. Great video! It is great to freeze dry your own food, you know what and where it comes from. Kylene, the triple chocolate muffins from Costco freeze dry great for me, really good snacks, I just cut each muffin up in like 18 bite size pieces. You can rehydrate them with a damp paper towel in the microwave or eat them dry, just enjoying them and their flavor as they rehydrate in your mouth. Happy trails!
That is good to know. We tried freeze-drying Hostess cakes and they were really hard. It's the pure chocolate that I love .... no problem there. I'm great at keeping it rotated.
Hi Kaylene. I have a suggestion for your mother-in-law. It sounds like she'd prefer to have the basement door closed because of the noise, but is concerned she won't hear when the machine is done. She could get a baby monitor and plug the "baby" end in near the freeze dryer and keep the "parent" end upstairs. Then, she could periodically turn on the "parent" end to hear if the machine has finished its cycle.
Thanks! I'll pass that on.
I'm 83, just got my freeze dryer, haven't got it set up yet, but I am anxious to get started. Mine is Blue Alpine medium.
Purchased one about seven years ago and have never regretted it. Only complaint is that I can’t update the software with my version. I also would like to see them have an upgrade buyback program.
The problem with them making new advancements is they neglect the older models. I couldn't get any support because their new support people didn't know how to fix my older one. I bought a cube and may have the same problems in the future. I love a freeze dryer.
What kind of maintenance does a freeze dryer require besides changing oil? You mentioned Vacuum pump?
So fun to see your mother in law. She is so sweet
Yes she is :)
We got ours to do meat. We couldn’t rotate well. Also, when there are meat sales, I can stock up. I really like I can freeze dry the cheese. My family would be lost without cheese. My chocolate doesn’t last long enough to rotate!!!
Mine either!
I would love to freeze dry our families favorite casseroles. Boy, this would have been great for when our 6 children were little. But to share one now would be a great idea. Great info! I really needed to hear this interview. Thank you ❤
We freeze dry our extra eggs when we have an abundance in the spring and summer. Our girls are not laying at all now so we use those eggs for exactly this time. We bought ours from a local store just in case there was any issue, they would take it back. That was 3+ years ago and we've never had a problem. We followed all the instructions and I keep a log book of all the stuff I've done and how long it took. It gives me a good reference to look back on.
I never thought to freeze leftovers like that. Do you just cut the freezer bag and lay it all on the tray or do you remove it entirely from the bag and place on tray. Thanks for all your tips and tricks! Emily is a beautiful vibrant lady.
I remove it completely from the bag :)
@@TheProvidentPrepper thank you!
How does the food reconstitute? Does it come back the same texture as it began? When one dehydrates, the food never comes back fully rehydrated and must be cooked in soups amd stuff
I would love to freeze dry some eggs from my girls. Also leftovers as well.
I had a FD, I sold it the end of May/23 - As you said, you dont have to have one but it is great to have it. But after 2 years of it sitting in my living room in the apartment, the noise of it running 24 or 35 hrs just got to be a little tiresome for me.
Even though I had a FD, I would still do my pressure canning or dehydrating as there were some things I preferred such as mushrooms dehydrated or if i was just wanting to get it done i would pressure can as its essentially only 3 hrs compared to 20 or 24 hrs - I do miss it , especially the FD bananas - I think it maybe be worth just buying the FD for the bananas .lol
That's how I feel about freeze dried pears and peaches! Thanks for your honest thoughts!
I don’t do dehydration as much since I have the FD but I will still do some canning. I just like to.
Well, here in Sweden you can´t buy a freeze-drier and they are way too expensive i could not afford to buy one and beside to get it up to my apartment would be challenging because i have no elevator in my building. So, carry a heavy freeze -drier would be a nightmare.
If I had a freeze dryer, I'd do cheese. If we ever get to a point where we have to live on preserved foods, I want to be able to still have cheese. :)
It's so hard to choose just one food but I think I'd side with Emily and do organic raspberries.
I would love to be able to freeze dry leftovers .I'm 58 and alone when I do cook it's too much so I end up eating the same thing for days in a row!
It's totally worth it but for someone who lives off my SS, I often can't pay emergency expenses (still can't fix my AC for the last 2 years) so it's a pipedream. If you can afford it, get one. ❤️👍🇺🇲
You need a friend like me that will let you use theirs.
@@TheProvidentPrepper I've actually mentioned a freeze dryer to friends and family, not only do some people not know you can get one for at home, they don't realize what type of food you can do, then they say they are way too expensive just to freeze dry some fruit or Skittles.
Loved the video! My No. 1 food to freeze dry would be cheese.
I freeze dry a lot of things, but the best is herbs
Apples and other fruit
Interesting!
Proteins, proteins and more proteins. Then ice-cream sandwiches.
Eggs seem to work well and chilli
Don't forget, John was hers first...
Meat would be my first choice, but berries would be a close second.
Oh no!!! Chocolate doesn't freeze dry?! Of all things! Kylene, what are you going to do? 😉
Be the queen of rotation!
@@TheProvidentPrepper I know you already have it covered. 😁🍫
ok the apple does not fall far from the tree. They are all preppers!😊
Cheese is awesome
It's too expensive for what it is. Freezeright needs to lower the price substantially to make it affordable and cost efficient. Showing one---offs of people using it doesn't reflect a typical household. It's a complete waste of money as it is now.
I bought a freeze dryer a few years ago, and you're right it is very expensive. But now looking at what I have stored after several years, I am not disappointed in my decision.

@@marypeterson3512 I was a trucker for several years. I would have loved to have some home cooked food on the road.
It hasn't been a waste of money for our family.
"I wish everybody had a Johnny!" That's a wonderful thing for a wife to say. You guys are great.
I do feel very blessed!
Ice Cream???
Oh, chocolate doesn't? What else doesn't???
Foods that are high in fats and sugar ... however, ice cream freeze dries great. Chocolate cream pie does great but not chocolate bars. Shredded cheese (although high in fat) freeze dries well.
Meat
electricity cost you a fortune for these
Is you're mother in law ok with your adoption of me? She's such a cutie pie.
Of course! She is adorable!
@@TheProvidentPrepper I needed this little pick me up. Love you guys
