I always thought if there was another company and competition, middle class could afford a FD. As of now, I think there are 4 companies that sell them and if nothing else, they’re even more out of reach for “Joe middle class”. Just my 2cents worth.
@@BelovedLeah I agree with you. I have 2 now I'm trying to sell my harvest right. I bought the cube but it has problems too. I worked in manufacturing and can see why the high prices. I have seen dehydrators that are high too.
I'm interested to see what this does for the home freeze dryer market. This is the third company that I've heard of that produces freeze driers for the home setting. Hopefully, we will start to see better products, services, and prices.
I know for high dollar items like this I like an “extended warranty” option. It’s worth the extra money for extra peace of mind. Thanks for sharing this and showing us this unit.
That is one of my complaints. I can only run mine when I have good clear skies for 2 or 3 days in a row because my home is run on solar power so I never get a full years of use so a one year warranty isn't very impressive to me.
I love that “ year of use” warranty, that is fantastic. I hope I can afford one soon! Thank you Cory, may God Bless Your Family and Company. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
Thank you for this interesting review. My one recommendation for this new product, would be to add an internal digital scale so that we can see the weight reduction of the trays. This allows us to avoid having to open the system, since we can assume it is done when the scale stops losing weight. Love the easy to repair mentality. Question about the warranty, so if I use it every day starting on day 1 for 3 months, skip 6 months, and then everyday for another 3 months, is that essentially half of a year of use? Thanks for the cool review.
As someone who grew up in the world of the refrigeration mechanic during the 1950's, the 1960's, and the 1970's, I don't believe, at least with current levels of technoloy, and even if those technologies were to become hyper-advanced across the next several decades, that home consumer scaled freeze dryers will ever be as uncomplicated, as maintenance free, or as inexpensive as have become home scaled consumer refrigerators and freezers. The vacuum pump is the key component to this equation. The specific physical tasks that a home scaled freeze dryer is asking the vacuum pump to accomplish on a 24/7/365 basis, which is the *ONLY* fair and equitable way to compare a home scaled freeze dryer against a home consumer scaled refrigerator or a freezer, which is to say, being *constantly* used on an around-the-clock basis every single day of the year; pretty much eliminates the phrase *maintenance free* from that type of comparison. *All of the above being said, I agree with everyone else that multiple competitors in the home consumer scaled freeze drying marketplace is the only way to drive freeze drying innovation forward and to hopefully reduce the initial price of a freeze dryer.*
I love my Blue Alpine and Cory has even personally helped me troubleshoot. I’ve had it two years and it is much better than the brand we have at my high school where I teach Food Preservation. I’m hope we can purchase a Blue Alpine!! BA are the best!!!
I understand getting a qualified service technician can be an issue for all brands of freeze dryers. What happens if there is a quick power outage in the middle of the night when you’re running a longer cycle. If you don’t notice the power outage do you wake up to spoiled food. Are there safety features/alarms to notify you that something has gone wrong. I’ve been questioning freeze dryer owners about issues and most find they have to do the servicing themselves because trained technicians are not available in the area and shipping the unit to the technician or manufacturer is far too expensive. I believe there are at least four different US made freeze dryer manufacturers. The prices haven’t come down yet even with the competition.
I see they have a payment plan. Mine has saved me a lot of money because I freeze dry my leftovers from my meals so then they don't spoil in the back of my fridge or freezer burn in the freezer and all I have to do is add hot water and I have a great meal later on. I own a different brand and wish I had seen this one before I bought mine.
Really like the standard size tray! They seem awfully close, like does lasagna even fit? What is the actual max food height, in inches please. That suggestion for a scale is a "why didn't I think of that!" How much babysitting does it need? My HR original only needed a couple double punches, but when it needed work the "improved" program needs twenty minutes of babysitting to start a load! Loved it...til that. And, since it's the newer program, decided to start shopping. You're on the list. Besides, my food room is...blue! Lol
I have an HR and it was great till things needed repaired or replaced. Their support wasn't there since mine was a 2017 model and the parts just plain weren't there either so I had no way to fix it! I do not recommend an HR based on my experience. It is too expensive not to have available parts and support for many many years. I love that this one uses common parts so I can fix it now I need to afford another freeze dryer.
For candy the racks are to close together. My wife does it at it ex spands real big. Though about getting another but they changed them no clearance between shelves . It’s really hard to clean the bottom sides that have the heating pad! More space 1.5 to 2 inches above top of tray.
We have both Harvest Right and have been experimenting with the Blue Alpine. They are both great machines. I'm super impressed with Cory and the way these guys are working to make it the highest quality and most user-friendly machine out there. Every time we give them feedback they immediately take it back and evaluate what they can do to make it better. I LOVE the new trays and liners. Wow! That was was a brilliant move. Kind of shows the kind of company that they are.
@TheProvidentPrepper I'm very leery of harvest right. Especially the supposed refurbished units being sold at costco. All the problems I have see about harvest right are shady work. I hope blue alpine takes over the freeze dryer production . It doesn't matter what nonsense questions I ask Cory, he always answers and never treats me as an idiot.
Nice, Its been almost 2 yrs since i sold my FD and from time to time I kick the idea of getting another one. If I do decide I will definitely take a hard look at blue. Have you done any eggs yet? if so how many does your FD do? Im assuming you have the large version
Eggs are one of my favorite things to freeze dry. The Blue Alpine did great but I am excited to try eggs with the new trays and mats. It will make it so much easier and the clean up easier.
I love that there are other freeze dryers joining the market. One question, do the trays look too close together? What size of food pieces fit on the trays?
The trays are very close together. It kind of helps eliminate the temptation to overfill the trays and regret it later. LOL! This might be an issue with some kinds of candy but I haven't found it to be a problem with the things that I freeze dry.
Appreciate his opinion on oilless pumps and do they offer one? I have the competition and if you have a question- you need to pay…. Even if its fairly simple to resolve.
I'll let Cory answer this in more detail but generally the oilless pumps just don't last as long. We have found that changing the oil really isn't a big deal. These guys are fantastic to talk to and have been incredibly helpful answering all our questions. Test it out. Call their customer service number or email them and see what happens bluealpinefreezedryers.com/pages/contact.
@ i’ve had mine for 4 years. Although not in continuous use and run a fan while on. I do like the option Corey mentioned of an encapsulated filter rather than pouring oil. Seems like there should be an oilless that works for the consumer. My son is a chemist and their machines run on oilless pumps….
But wait,… You said the the same about HR, and the same when the Cube gifted you a FD’r and now Blue Alpine gives you a FD’r and all of the sudden you love them. I used to trust your opinion and your advice. Not any more. It seems that you can be paid off.
Nope. We can't be paid off. We are just sharing new options that you have available. There are good things about each of the freeze dryers. I'm thrilled that there is another choice on the market. Blue Alpine is taking a really cool approach to their design. I'm impressed! We own Harvest Right, a Cube, but the Blue Alpine is on loan so that we can review it. We don't own it. But I might have to buy one. Isn't it nice that we now have options and that the competition encourages better quality for the customer. If anything, our willingness to show you other options should be evidence of our integrity. We tell it like we see it.
I don't like the half sheet cookie trays because they are ALL aluminum. I hope they provide stainless trays with the machines. . Why do people not know that aluminum causes alzheimers? Also, do they have an oil free pump? I am visually impaired and had to go to oil free with the HR machines. And do they have pumps that last over 2 years? I've had 3 Freeze Dryers and I never get more than 2 to 2 1/2 years before those pumps have to be referbished. And the referbish is EXPENSIVE.

I'm so glad there is another freeze dryer company for home use, we needed some real competition to get this product in more homes.
It costs more than Harvest Right.
@ItsEverythingElse I remember the gas wars. Competition is good.
@@ItsEverythingElse but Harvest Right is a horrible machine with horrible customer service.

I bought one last February. I’m 75 years old. Easy to use GREAT coustomer service. Last night I completed load 100.
That's awesome!
This guy is an excellent representative for his business. I’d buy it based on him alone.

Having common fittings and standard parts (when possible) does earn them some points.
Love hearing about this. That it takes standard size parts is a terrific idea. I only wish I could afford one….

@ I got $4,200 in medical bills and a vehcile that’s falling apart right now. Luxury purchases are not an option unfortunately
I wish I had known about this freeze dryer before I bought the cube. It looks more usable than the 2 I have tried!
Had a good conversation with Blue Alpine at the Sage & Plow store fair in American Fork Utah.

WOW!!! Those things are EXPENSIVE!

Awesome! Thanks!!
I so wish we had this sort of thing in the uk
To really help the regular people at home make it affordable, this is just like the rest-out of reach for most of us-bye
hmm. so you could use this to flash freeze things on trays before packing in a freezer??
That dryer looks so huge. Looks like it takes up a lot of space for an in home use
Mine takes up about the same amount of space as my dehydrator. It makes about the same amount of noise too.
For candy the racks are to close together. My wife does it at it ex spands real big. Though about getting another but they changed them no clearance between shelves . It’s really hard to clean the bottom sides that have the heating pad! More space 1.5 to 2 inches above top of tray.
After watching a lot of harvest right videos, I went to blue alpine. It works good and faster than what I've seen about harvest right.

It sounds like they are pro right to repair, at least in standardizing and modular-izing.
Wish I could afford one
Hopefully we see competition start bringing prices down.
The user-friendly sounds great, but how much is it to ship it back to repair it after it breaks after a few uses?
Hey thanks so much for bringing us this option! Do you know if they sell and deliver in Canada?
Oh my. No way I can afford this item but thanks for showing us.

How many times and hours per day can you use this feeze dryer dsily for several years?
how are the mtors on them now are you still passing them at 1100
Questions:
How loud is it?
What is the amperage/circuit requirements for the large machine?
Does it have WIFI to give notices on my phone?
Make a fully modular one where all parts can be replaced to make it more self-sufficient, even if not as efficient.

Does this kind of equipment need it’s own outlet?
if you buy the medium size. no.
But if you buy the large, yes.
Talked to them a while back, better than harvest right
Does the machine need a special electrical line run to it? Will it run on standard house voltage? What is the capacity on a run on Freeze dried food?
My medium Harvest right run on a standard 15amp circuit. The large seeds a dedicated 20amp circuit so yes
To answer your question, it runs on standard house 15
Are they planning on selling in UK or the EU?
