I'm so glad I found your videos! I bought an l9000 tandem ex plow truck back in 2018. Now after some unfortunate circumstances I'm now trying to psych myself up to replace the cab. Your videos have helped get me excited again!

might want to check that bearing "preload" and jamb nut torque spec. no wear plate between the s cam and the brake spider? triangle end caps would finish off those frame ends nicely.

I didn’t talk about it in the video but the spec I used was on the inner nut, 300 ft/lbs then 1 turn back off, then 50 ft/lbs then 1/4 turn back off. Outer nut 300-400 ft/lbs. my torque wrench doesn’t go that high so I used the “butt dial” to feel my way past 250 ft/lbs

I really like the hitch! Curious as to the thickness of the outside steel plates and rectangular tubing.

Thank You- The side plates are 1/4” and the tubing is 3/16”.

Some good ideas, I would have used wider tubes underneath and cut holes for the receiver tube in them. That would be 10X stronger and a cleaner look. did you install a 2.5" tube?

    • @robstruckshop80

Yes it’s a 2.5” receiver. And to your points, if you look at the rest of the truck, I’m not going for sleek and smooth. I like seeing the structure and working parts of a truck so this way is just what I’m looking for.

I would have put longer wheel studs in for more threads to protude through the aluminum outer rims

May be in another video, but I definitely replaced both the inner and outer budd studs with aluminum wheel spec pieces.

It’s been holding up great after towing all sorts of trailers. I’m not in Texas, though- Michigan!
