As others have noted, sway is usually due to improper weight balance. You can verify this by pulling it with and without the side-by-side. If the problem goes away unloaded, you have your answer. To remedy, you'll need to get more weight forward of the axles. The semi having the same issue also confirms weight distribution as being the most probable cause. The trailer's stated hauling capacity by the MFG is usually figured with a basic version of the trailer, completely empty. Options added by the dealer/you and cargo will reduce it. Those little things can add up very quickly. Notice the sticker says the weight of cargo should never exceed 3690lbs. It doesn't say specifically that's the amount it can actually handle. You can find the real capacity with some basic math and measurements. Weight it loaded (any luggage, food, water, clothes, etc.) and subtract that number from that 16800lb GVWR. There's your true excess cargo capacity. Based on the info in the video, your realistic capacity is probably only roughly 1500lbs. That's assuming you get more of weight over the tongue to keep your rear axles from being over-loaded as well. You may well find you need a bigger trailer with more capacity, or you need to figure out a way to lighten the load on your current one. You definitely need to resolve the matter, as the legal (civil and criminal) liability from pulling an over-weight trailer is significant. If you get in an accident, any 2-bit lawyer will have a very easy case against you. That's not a risk that's worth taking, IMO.
A lot of times they’re way overpriced and have issues straight off the lot. Been there and dealt with it, and it can make you really second guess your decision.
If he doesn’t find something to complain about he doesn’t have a video. He has to know better than to load the trailer the way he has. If it sways behind a rig then it is a loading issue. 🤷♂️
It’s almost to the point of needing another axle on the 5th wheel, back it into the trailer and put the heavy end of the SXS as close to the axle as possible
A toy hauler of this size 10 to 15 years ago would for sure have 3 axles. I notice a lot of newer trailers trying to get buy with heavier axles and using only 2
I tow a 45ft 5th wheel with a 6” lift on 37 26x14 ram 2500. Your truck should tow that fine. I would suggest backing in the rzr and honestly filling the water tanks adds weight to the front
Solution to stuff hitting the mother attic on the camper would be getting some full fenders for the truck and I think you should probably find some that look pretty damn
Add a axle and try to shift as much weight as you can forward. The heavier weight in a RV as you have should always go as far forward as you can. The heavier weight in the back will always cause a trailer (RV) to sway. Their are several videos showing how the heavier weight in back will cause a vehicle to sway with weight distribute in the back. I pulled a RV several years with my 2004 4X4 Silverado. I pulled a Jayco Pinnacle, it was a 43'.
Nice rigs for sure! Backing the razor in will definitely help weight distribution… Also, make sure when you load the front part of your RV make sure you put most of your carry on up front in the overhead bed area if you can to add more weight to your hitch.
That's exactly what I want a tractor for. I pull a 41, 2 bedroom, 2 bath 5th wheel with a 1 ton, 06 power stroke. I really need that cab over, fingers crossed, I win it!
Just a thought we used to have sway with car transporters in Uk. ( 13 car carriers 65 ft long). When new tyres were fitted ( super singles special tyre for transporter trailers), until shoulder on tyres wore in we would experience a sway like that . We would also run overweight on axles due to different vehicle sizes that had to be loaded. We would squeeze everything on .
That's exactly why we have a triple axle and put as much in front as possible and even put the quads in the kitchen to help with our sxs being in the back
I towed a 42’ 2015 Heartland landmark 365 5th wheel with my semi truck and it swayed. The 365 is not a toy hauler and grosses out at 17,500. When I hauled it from the dealer empty it swayed. The air conditioner, all the cabinets, the tv’s, convection oven I honestly think it’s because these things have a lot of weight up high.
The leveling system on the three-axle trailer goes down before going up because these cheap and crude hydraulic systems don't have bi-directional valves for each ram, so they can can only retract together, or extend them individually. That means they need to start with the RV low... and they do that by retracting (all of) the jacks, then extending them in whatever combination achieves level. If they miss and adjust, they can only drive the RV higher in the adjustments, so it always ends up higher than it would be if competently adjusted manually.
So looks fun to travel together like that! Awesome video thank you for sharing! I hope me and my brothers could do that kind of travel together one of these daze! God bless y’all!
I pull a 37ft raptor with my Ram 2500 Cummins. Have it on bags. When I have it loaded with toys I air down on the bags to give a minor squat and this solved the dog tail wag problem completely.
reversing the polaris into the fifth wheel would be a better idea i think considering the engine is most of the weight of that thing in one spot it should help
Get a dually and load the SXS in backwards. I wouldnt mess with adding another axle, i woulda just got a 3 axle but i understand it not being easy to get in and out of your yard.
At 2:42 did you say that you would adjust the "pintle hitch"? This is not a pintle hitch. A pintle is a hook (on the truck) which supports a horizontal ring (on the trailer), mostly used for military and heavy commercial trailers and dollies.
if ur able to put the SXS in the trailer garage backwards so the majority of the SXS drivetrain is closer to da axles so most of its weight is over the axles it should be enough to help with the sway to get u home safest
You have the room so what I would do is ,get yourself custom built 4 foot high / 6 foot long aluminum triangle ramp. Storage underneath and safety strap S/S to frame of ramp. A ramp they use on the back of P/U trucks .
I wonder if the razor weighs more than you think it does, the only thing that causes trailer sway, is to have more weight behind the axles than in front.
Usually those big toy haulers are 3-axle units for good reason, and towing one of those with commercial 5th wheel I would be careful stay off sharp driveway transitions that make the truck and trailer want to tweak against each other. Those RV's frames aren't really meant to handle the stress of a hitch that doesn't side tilt.
As a rule of thumb, you want to carry more weight than you pull. You’ll always want just a touch more weight on the drives than your tandems, as best you can. I’m a nobody, I know… However, having the axles further back would help your situation. 😊
The best way to pull the big fifth wheel is with a dually. I had a 39 foot fifth wheel. My single wheel just wasn’t do the job. Bought the dually hooked it up to the camper and what a difference. Another thing is your tires. You need a minimum of a 12 tire on that trailer. A lot of you swaying is your weight and your tires. Not having big enough ply tires will make the trailer also sway. The sway comes from the side wall breaking down. Try a 12 ply tire or bigger and you see a different in the way that trailer pulls.
Had the same problem but since I got a shocker hitch and a triple axle toy hauler never had no more problems 3/4 ton pickup. Never had no problem pulling afterwards that I got my shocker hitch and triple axle toy hauler
Stabilizer kits on his pickup truck will help alot. Even with high windy and increased speed on highway but no sway. I recommend sticking with same speed as before and after. For safety reason anyway
We have 397 Momentum been full time RVing 8 years , tri-axle lot better pulled mine 80mph tracks on rails. I actually pull utility trailer with KRX we use garage for other stuff . If going add axle replace all axles go disc brakes if have drum .
Did you get the fuel station. Thatsc2c30 gal tanks worth of added weight. I just retired and ive decided to use my t680 to pull my moblie suites i just bought today. My friend is having same issue you were having . After going to a show his answer on the sway is we designed it for a golfcart. Big weight difference. I looked at the new brinkleys and i like them but da wife wanted the luxury. Lmaso. I still have to hook up n see if need to move fifthwheel back futher. Ok take care
Back the sxs in as far forward as possible and stack as much stuff that is in the camper as far forward in the camper as possible. I'm not over weight with my camper but I do that as a precaution anyway.
After further watching maybe put the side by side in backwards so the motor is closer to the trailer axles it might make a little bit better I don't know if it would or not but it would be worth a shot
So being a driver and a I live in a camper we have 1 size bigger and 2 axle we added a tag to the ass end off a a dump truck works off air from the semi and has a dump switch that I can run inside
I pulled a 22000 lb bumper pull 3 axle Monte Carlo from Michigan to Arizona with a gas3/4 ton 1999 truck never had any issues was a little heavy but it did fine
1st of all. You are pulling a 5th wheel that has a pin weight of almost 3600 lbs. With a 250!!! With everything your hauling in your truck. I wouldn't dought if you are over your payload capacity. By about 2000 lbs. This proves how devious RV sales people are. Please do your homework.
Before you purchase a new axle, at the weight of the trailer with SxS, you're going to pop tires in hot weather. If this were my trailer, it would get 9-10K axles and 14-16 ply tires. Cleetus had issues with his stacker blowing tires in the summer, and it's a tri axle, but running close to the GVRW. Once you figure in the cost of 7-8 new tires and wheels with the new axles, it might be cheaper to get a trailer designed to carry the weight you intend to carry.
Weight/ Centre of gravity behind an axle makes the trailer unstable, any sway will increase and not naturally dampen if your CG would be forward your sway will dampen
Backing your sidexside in would help but I never had an issue when I pulled my 44' RAPTOR toy hauler with my single wheel 1 ton 4x4 Ram Grant it I had an extra axle but I know for a fact I was much heavier as well.
Bruce, Remove the axles off the 5th wheel camper. You have the Peterbilt motor home you are gutting it as well, I guess you still have it? If so.. remove that off the frame of the Pete. Set the fifth wheel camper on the frame of the Pet... I've seen this in many situations. It can be done. Also sloshing of waste or clean water tanks can cause sway as well..

The worst load distribution example i can think of would be a toy hauler with a heavy load in the back. Your toy hauler would doubtless perform WAY better if it had a couple of light dirt bikes in the rear compartment rather than one big Razor, but your kids are too small for that option. You need to check your razor's weight, but if it is within specific for the toy hauler payload, I would assert that the toy hauler is badly designed and should be rectified or refunded at manufacturer expense. If it is unsafe, and the away makes it very obviously unsafe, it cannot be fit for purpose and your consumer law should apply.
Add more weight to the front of the camper relative to the backside. This is a well known sway reason. In our country this is a reason to pull people with trailers off the road for a road side check up by police. They do this in the camping season. Weight distribution is very much an issue, besides other issues, and could get dangerous.
I know this is probly resolved but because you are towing with a tractor you may be able to just move front axle behind rear axle these are built so smaller trucks can pull them but this doesn't put much weight on the hitch, my concern with simply adding another axle wouldn't still wouldn't put weight on the hitch, need to create distance from hitch to front axle and when running those jack legs use your truck power.
I suggest backing the Razor into the trailer so the engine is closer to the 5th wheel axels.
Beat me to it ,was about to say the same. Won't help a lot but if it's swaying every little bit will help some.
Same, when I seen that big damn engine it has.
There's too much weight behind the axels. Try to shift the weight, maybe load the side by side backwards.
That's what I was thinking..... load the SxS in backwards...
Same suggestion from me.

Bruce, look into the air ride suspension conversion kits for fifth wheels. Also back your side by side into the garage for better weight distribution.
Seems like Bruce is having a lot of buyer’s remorse with his camper and motorhome purchases lately.
A lot of times they’re way overpriced and have issues straight off the lot. Been there and dealt with it, and it can make you really second guess your decision.

Who would of thunk grand designs makes a bad toy hauler
I'd have buyers remorse with a 3/4 ton short box truck!!
Thank you for the video.I’m glad that you could go with your family in a camping trip.Wish you all the best!
It’s almost to the point of needing another axle on the 5th wheel, back it into the trailer and put the heavy end of the SXS as close to the axle as possible

I carry my vw bug in my toy hauler. Try backing it in. Makes a huge difference with my setup. Good luck
You should know the Can-Am backwards with the engine towards the front of the camper
Great example of doing your research before buying, and understanding how weight adds up quickly…also weight distribution.

I had the same problem and backed in my sxs, much improvement in handling and tongue weight.

Backing the razor in more weight closer to those axles. Couple people suggestion same thing!
I'm a big fan Bruce i love our vids
Get a dually and load the SXS in backwards. I wouldnt mess with adding another axle, i woulda just got a 3 axle but i understand it not being easy to get in and out of your yard.
Back the rzr in Bruce. You’ll have much more weight closer to the axles. The motor is in the rear. Should help
Empty freshwater tank until you get closer to where you are going. Plus, like everyone else stated load the Razar backwards.
Speedwell!! That’s by norris lake. Our summer home! Have a good trip!
Fill the front water tank for tongue weight. Back the Razor in to move engine weight forward!
Where is the water tank in the trailer? If they are forward of the axle fill em up! That will compensate for all the weight behind the axles!!!
Can you tell me how did you make your electrical connection conversion harness?
Back that razor in so the motor is closer to the axles on the trailer

Had a similar problem with my Weekend Warrior three axel, backing my sxs made a huge difference.
Try loading your razor backwards

Kinda heavy in the back of the trailer did ya load the side by side backwards so the weight is closer to the axles
Grand design is an amazing company we have bought 3 campers made by them now and they are built well and customer service is excellent
Try putting UTV in reverse/backwards that way the engine weight is closer to the last trailer axle! Might help
Do your vlog off the fuel island. Transfer weight forward in the camper. If water tanks are forward of the axle fill them up
Had the same problem but since I got a shocker hitch and a triple axle toy hauler never had no more problems 3/4 ton pickup. Never had no problem pulling afterwards that I got my shocker hitch and triple axle toy hauler
I would definitely recommend distributing the weight in the camper better and look into a stabilizer kit.
Stabilizer kits on his pickup truck will help alot. Even with high windy and increased speed on highway but no sway. I recommend sticking with same speed as before and after. For safety reason anyway
We had the same issue what we did was took it back and got a tri axel and problem was solved
I suggest loading the sxs in backwards to get the motor weight closer to axels. Wont help a ton but might be just enough.
You can load the radar backwards as far as you can and put anything heavy up over the nose to add weight to the 5th wheel.
We have 397 Momentum been full time RVing 8 years , tri-axle lot better pulled mine 80mph tracks on rails. I actually pull utility trailer with KRX we use garage for other stuff . If going add axle replace all axles go disc brakes if have drum .
I hope you all have a great vacation
Try putting the side by siide in backwards moving the weight forward should help
Camping and vlogging is nice, I like it
Did you get the fuel station. Thatsc2c30 gal tanks worth of added weight. I just retired and ive decided to use my t680 to pull my moblie suites i just bought today. Those Zillas eat!! Ever heard of Indian mountian in Alabama it’s a fun place to ride as well.
After further watching maybe put the side by side in backwards so the motor is closer to the trailer axles it might make a little bit better I don't know if it would or not but it would be worth a shot
Come on up here I lived in Florida for 25 years I moved up here and I love it.
Heavy end of the razor towards the front, and put a little more weight up front.
I am a fan of the camping vlog I say keep it Bruce.
Bro, just gotta say, I love you wife, for all the Hell you throw at her. lol!
You really hit the lottery finding her.
God Bless you and yours.
Really enjoy the camping video bring more to the channel man
Bruce back the side by side in camper. Put the weight of motor closer to the axles to put more tongue weight on truck
Add an HEAVY DUTY axel to the very rear of the trailer,
then there's no plumbing or electrical to move.
Just add 1/4 fender over those tires.
Would definitely back it in, I had the same problem and that solved it.
lets see how many RV/Campers Bruce goes through before he's happy.
I was going to say the same thing. It the second motorhome no more?
They all have problems I work on them. All I can say is enjoy/use the warranty!
1st of all. You are pulling a 5th wheel that has a pin weight of almost 3600 lbs. With a 250!!! With everything your hauling in your truck. I wouldn't dought if you are over your payload capacity. By about 2000 lbs. This proves how devious RV sales people are. Please do your homework.
@@daytime8153 Hoss, I ain't Bruce, I don't know why you're replying to me with this......
I love my torsion bar triple x l thirty foot tag trailer and make sure you get that in writing that they will still warrant it
You should get Freight Liner 4 door semi to hall all your family with and tow the camper with. You need a 3 axle trailer
Backing your sidexside in would help but I never had an issue when I pulled my 44' RAPTOR toy hauler with my single wheel 1 ton 4x4 Ram Grant it I had an extra axle but I know for a fact I was much heavier as well.
my friend did the same thing on his wolfpack kinda instresting seams to work good i suggest also going to a 14 ply tire
It isn't just about balance, gvm and ball load, though those are clearly important. Even if you have all those correct, you can still have a sway problem if the trailer has most of its mass at the front and back ends.... this is because this massively increases the polar moment of inertia.... then when this begins to away, there is so much polar momentum involved that it is difficult for the tyre friction to slow it or stop it.
This is why RVs with a centre kitchen tow so much better than one's with a rear kitchen (all else equal).
(My opinion as a design engineer...)
Where is your Peterbuilt motor home????
Remodeling the interior
Great ideal getting the semi to pull the camper trailer!
Overkill
Got to love that i75 exit 310 loves
Try loading your side by side what's the engine facing toward the front but most of the weight over them axles
Not the perfect answer to to overall weight but fill the water tanks. Our momentum did the same thing when the garage was loaded.
A I always stick a torpedo level on the kitchen floor to level our trailer
You should have back the Razr up in your toy hauler being the engine is the heaviest part closest to the axel would be better
Always do level with shore power when possible same for slides
I had the same issue back your rzr in be good to go
Add more weight to the front of the camper relative to the backside. This is a well known sway reason. In our country this is a reason to pull people with trailers off the road for a road side check up by police. They do this in the camping season. Weight distribution is very much an issue, besides other issues, and could get dangerous.
Try backing the razor in
I love all the content you put out Bruce. Keep up the good work and I’m looking forward to winning Blue Collar
Fill water tank full, it's usually in front of the axles. Should be enough weight to even it out better.
Yeah but that would make it even more overweight
He's already a thou overweight
I know this is probly resolved but because you are towing with a tractor you may be able to just move front axle behind rear axle these are built so smaller trucks can pull them but this doesn't put much weight on the hitch, my concern with simply adding another axle wouldn't still wouldn't put weight on the hitch, need to create distance from hitch to front axle and when running those jack legs use your truck power.
Hey, can you make a video of the Harness/conversion that you made? I am trying to haul my camper with my rig.
My minds like a truck roaring through the night 🏞️🌄🤠👽
Great video. Have a fun and safe trip. !!
Another Great Video 😊like was said earlier load backwards. Good Luck you put out some great content !!!
