It's definitely been an exciting set of announcements - a really big thank you to Rapido and especially Andy for allowing me to do this interview with them. Thanks for watching 😃
Great interview. Absolutely agree that there is a place for everyone in the hobby. What makes you happy is the right level of detail/prototype. Andy has got it right, great guy and his team.
Definitely! And it's not that rivet counting or anything like that doesn't have a place - but more that those who do choose to engage in those areas do so for their own enjoyment rather than to the detriment of anyone else. Thanks for watching 😃
Really great announcements from Rapido and great interview. Andy's enthusiasm is wonderful to see and very inspiring. For me, Andy is absoltuely correct that the hobby is about mental health and having fun. I am looking forward to expanding my Rapido stock with some Evolution coaches and more wagons. Hopefully we will see the EP samples at the NEC in November. Thanks both and good luck with Rapido RailEx!
I think that enthusiasm is echoed throughout the entire company to be honest. It's easy to forget that the people who are working on these models are usually modellers too and are just as passionate - if not more so - than we customers are. Thanks for watching 😃
Rapido is going to bankrupt me at this rate .😂 I was surprised by the announcement of Ivor the engine as I never thought we'd ever get an RTR model of him. The Evolution coaches are a welcomed addition. Rapido are basically carrying on what Hattons started with their genesis coaches. Fantastic announcements all round 👍😁👍
I know what you mean! I should have had a meter showing throughout this video showing how much poorer I was getting by the minute 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
I really enjoyed the interview, its nice to see the perspective of a manufacturer, I do like rapido's approach to model railways, they do what people want, and I think ivor is going to be popular 😀
Really glad you enjoyed it. The guys at Rapido are great and it's always good to see behind the curtain at how our models get made. It's also good to remember that there are real people working on these projects when we get angry about things online. Thanks for watching 😃
This was fun to hear about all these cool things coming out, especially the last project he talked about. Thank you for sharing. GOD BLESS from America 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
Really glad you enjoyed it! It was great to be able to have early access to these announcements so shout out to Rapido for letting me in on the secrets. Thanks for watching 😃
One of the interesting points for me, at least recently, is being able to buy a rake of coaches with each coach having a different running number. Not so difficult when your train length is maybe 3-6 units long. I'd love to see similar for the wagons, Rapido is ahead of most other manufacturers giving us 3-4 diagram variations and liveries for each variation - so I've been able to build a mixed rake of GWR open wagons with no duplications (same for the vans)... but my ultimate dream would be walking into a store and buying a rake of (maybe) United Dairies tankers and not having duplicate running numbers in the set!
They definitely do like to give modellers options. As we sort of touched on in the video, it's a fine line between making lots of running numbers to satisfy those who wants to build up a rake and having loads of unsold wagons sat on the shelf. I certainly wouldn't want to be a manufacturer! Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I kind of hope that eventually the tech will allow for manufacturers to pick a range of numbers and each vehicle produced gets the next running number in sequence - nobody gets the same number!!!
Really excited about Ivor the Engine and have pre-ordered both sets of engine and wagons, such a wonderful idea. No wonder the Guy Fawkes sod well, its really good fun and I love mine. Think that the new coaches will be incredibly popular. very interesting and entraining interview thanks.
I think a lot of people are excited for Ivor and I could see this being an even bigger success for Rapido than the Titfield Thunderbolt was. Was great to finally meet you at the exhibition yesterday! Thanks for watching 🤩
Really great interview, Andy seems such a down to earth and relatable chap. My only disappointment, as an N Gauge modeller, is there was no mention of the Peaks they announced last week 😢
That's totally my fault! As soon as we finished filming we both realised we'd forgotten to talk about them. I hadn't actually realised the 45s and 46s were a new announcement too as for some reason I thought they'd already been revealed. My apologies! Thanks for watching 😃
Well, this is all very exciting, I would say. It appears as though Rapido is certainly thinking outside the box, so to say. Especially the coaches, we have a fellow doing this sort of thing digitally and it has proven to be most attractive as well. The S160 is also looking very smart in their specific video. It seems to be a great time to have model railways as a hobby.
Rapido have definitely made a name for themselves over the last few years and with this latest set of announcements I think they'll have got a lot of people excited. If you haven't seen it already, I recently featured the S160 in my previous Rapido video where I tried to see how many wagons it could pull... I ran out of wagons! 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent interview, Rapido are going to bankrupt me. 🤭 I've Already ordered the LBSC & SECR coach Packs. Seriously considering the single packs too. Yesterday I ordered Ivor as I'm that generation. 🤫 The biggest problem I have is, how on earth do I tell my wife? 😂😂
I know how you feel! These Evolution coaches are going to be very popular I think and with more runs in different liveries planned for the future I can see a lot of us ended up with a few different variants. Thanks for watching 😃
Yeah the modular approach seemed really impressive to me when they were using it on their wagons so to see it being taken to the next level for these coaches is really exciting. Thanks for watching 😃
An excellent and enjoyable interview. Thanks. I was surprised and a bit disapointed that to my knowledge nobody had bought the tooling for Hattons Genesis coaches, so the evolution coaches are a welcome annoucement. The price is quite a lot more than the Genesis coaches where a pack of 4 was £130 and these are £170 for 3, however they do sound like they'll be quality. I'm sure they'll sell well though if the Ebay prices of genesis coaches is any indication. £500 - £1200 for a 4 pack. Which is simply insane!
Really glad you enjoyed it! Technically it's not that nobody has bought the Hattons Genesis tooling, it's that we don't know who now owns it. These are much larger coaches than the Genesis coaches too, hence the higher price. For the amount of detail they're planning to include I do think these are pretty good in comparison to some of the releases from Bachmann and Accurascale recently. Thanks for watching 😃
Stoked for the blue Longmoor coaches to match the US ATC engine. Bravo to Rapido - the "good enough" class of modeler is very excited for the Evolution coaches!
Must admit I do like Rapido products just had a problem with my apt-e sent it off for repair got sent a whole new train that works fantastic thanks to Dan at Rapido.
Fun aside, the custom wagons might be a good idea even for people trying to be realistic. If you run pre-war trains, the private owner wagons should, ideally, be for firms that have a connection with the area your layout represents (except that colliery wagons could go to a lot of places). If you are doing something Hayling Island-ish, for example, coal merchants in Reading might take explaining. The Evolution coaches seem a brilliant idea. I doubt that it would be feasible to do a good range of coaches for many pre-grouping companies. Bogie coaches were taking over before the First World War. The Hattons and Hornby 4 and 6 wheel coaches are good, but a bit "backwoods branch line" by 1914. Having different roof profiles makes the different variants look like completely different coaches, which is a good idea if you are running trains from more than one pre-grouping company.
Definitely, especially considering that the PO Wagons from Rapido are fully realistic wagons anyway rather than just a generic moulding. On the flip side, I think the Evolution coaches are going to be really popular given the previous success of the Hornby and Hattons coaches. Having seen what Rapido have planned for these coaches, I think they might blow the previous versions away! Thanks for watching 😃
I wouldn't hold your breath but never say never with Rapido. If it's ridiculously popular in 00 there's always a chance they might consider it in N Gauge too. Thanks for watching 👍
omg my Evolution coaches pre-order was over £1,000 today. Pre-grouping is my thing. They were too tempting. I've only just got over the shock from the Rails' Genesis coaches invoice from yesterday. I forgot I'd ordered 15 of them.
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Meant to say I really liked Andy's views on model railways and especially the rivet counters i.e. RM Web crew that need to get a life.
@grandaddyoe1434 I replied but it isn't showing. It will be soon now that we have been asked to pay. It looks like they are all arriving together as I ordered Midland, GCR, LSWR and NCB. EDIT: Just had the dispatch email from Rails yes all arriving tomorrow!
