Thanks to the dynamic duo for this video. It makes sense to celebrate the second anniversary and try to bring in more people to TT120. My guess is, cashflow would be a factor too. A business has to look at all issues, but I have no concerns about our scale long term.
@@PeachyTT120 I don't know how many of the Easterners were available in the flash sale but I couldn't get one . My pre-order got cancelled. The best I can find now is £175 for the cheapest set. That's too much money for a boring oval. The set doesn't even include a trackmat so I'll have to source a suitable mat and add some buildings before it will be worth setting up. The total entry price just got too high for me.
Me? I'm not worried. I think that TT:120 is going strong, and getting better. So much better that Hornby have realised that the initial offerings were perhaps not the quality that the almost here and still in development models are going to be, and so made a commercial decision to sell their stocks off relatively cheaply. When us initial "product testers" all got our hands on the HST's, the 50's and the Princesses we all said "WOW!" and realised just how good they are going to be. We all had teething problems initially with the Phase 1 models but nowadays, apart from occasional driveshafts, I hardly see any other common problems coming from the newer models. I've got three 08's crying out for Bluetooth - where do I sign up Chris? Can't find it on the website.

I sure hope TT:120 continues. I do think Hornby will carry on. Thanks for letting us know about TMC doing the 8 pin sound decoder in the 0-6-0s. I may go that route rather than risk a DIY job with non Bluetooth decoder. But 6-8 weeks wait may frustrate!

Like every reasonable public railway operator would do: Spend the money now, and push the cap to the next investment, and when that come, push the cap further etc. etc. 🥳 Eventually the "domestic government" will shut your spending down, and then you have to run the material down and into disrepair for a loong period.
I sense that Hornby realise the current crop of TT120 modellers have mostly filled their boots with products of interest to them from the current range. Therefore for Hornby to maintain good TT120 sales volumes they have to attract new people. Let's face it, current TT120 folk don't want a 2nd Easterner set but what they do want isn't quite ready for market yet.

I got the email from Rails before any other retailer including Hornby and assumed it was just Rails off loading a lot of their TT120 stock so I placed a quick order with them before they sold out of those items.
I think that's pretty much it. Hornby need some new revenue now plus more customers to build their TT120 future revenue streams. There's a fair number of existing customer that are very committed to the scale but we're going to be waiting a while for the future models that we want to further expand our collections, and of course that's little use to Hornby for their 2024 numbers.

Super video as always Chris. I started with the Easterner and added the Trigo, the 08 and finally a few weeks ago I captured the class 50 Edward Elgar with sound for a bargain off Ebay. Unfortunately I have experienced real problems with th HM7000 app and Chris in the Hornby tech dept has helped me many times. Anyway, long story ahort, I am altering my double circuit 6'x3' into an end to end C shape and would dearly love a turntable. How about having a word with your 'mates' at Hornby and asking if their Airfix range (which I think included one) couln't scale theirs down? Just a thought.

I’d genuinely love to get a TT120 set and start a little layout but I just can’t justify the money for what you actually get and it’s not just with TT, it’s OO stuff also, it’s just so expensive for what you get.
I think a TT120 Starter Set is a fantastic idea an absolute Golden Egg.... I've gone feet 1st... as I'm confident I can achieve a realistic layout & dioramas, as my previous 00 gauge ones..

In fairness this was a very short notice interview, done to give the rationale behind the sale, and to try and forestall the naysayers. Closer inspection shows it’s only the first gen products mostly on sale, with the aim, yes of clearing stock for Hornby but also marking the 2nd anniversary and growing the scale. More to come…

However, when you do your next scheduled chat, could you ask how each project is going as stated in the last brochure, of future releases, ie, ask individually, the conflates, the horse box, the KFA, the seacows, etc, go through the list possibly, because we do need to know that these things are actually being progressed. We do after all want to run trains, not just locos. We know about the locos, it’s the rolling stock that we desperately need of. Also, why has there not been and when will there be reruns of models, albeit with different numbers etc, like the TTA’s which flew off the shelves. Things that cover multiple eras. Martyn obviously wants people to sign up to the scale, but we need trains not just locos
Sadly I'm one of those people who has filled their boots with the 15% introductory discount and with pre-orders in for the remainder of Phase 2 so we have a sale that I cannot take advantage of, however I hope it goes well and brings a few more people in. I felt that Martin did hint about quality improvements feeding back into future models, Whether that includes a replacement for the 3 pole motor we will need to wait and see I guess. Your little ad for buying an 08 on the TMC site confused me. You selected HM7000 on the decoder but that’s not available yet. Are you assuming people will wait until Q3 2025 because of the decoder?

It’s a bespoke service where the technician at the TMC hard wires an 8pin HM7000 sound decoder in the same way that many people have been showing on UA-cam. Only real difference is, we also install a stay alive and offer a 12 month warranty on the work. The decoder & stay alive are included in the price

Excellent, it's allowed me to buy a 2nd Blue & Yellow 125 -7 car set, the order being split between Rails & TMC... I also have a 2nd L/Logo 50 that TMC are renumbering & renaming for me...a long lead time, but that's to be expected..😊
When I first read some comments on Facebook I did think 'oh right...' but then after getting home last night and looking at what items were reduced I kind of though its an old stock clear out sale rather than we're moving on so its all going cheap. I do hope that any future A1/A3/A4s get better quality motors in them, it's more a reliability issue for me than wanting to pull 18 wagons up an incline. I personally won't be buying anymore of these regardless of new liveries until the motors are sorted. I'm looking forward to the next interview and hopefully another video from Hornby with the new products due out.
Flash sales and sale-outs are relatively normal to Tillig TT customers. It is just a clearing out of older, discontinued items at very reasonable prices to make space for new arrivals in the warehouse and has never been seen als "the end of TT". More like a last call to grab these discontinued models if interested as they will soon be sold out. Even if Hornby do not discontinue their flash sale items, it is a great way to introduce these models to a wider audience. A friend of mine has just grabbed a complete HST train set as it is now in his financial range. And I couldn't resist on good old GBRf Class 08... again 😇

@@garryhall5552 My Class 50 Sir Edward Elgar has reached its 110th running hour on our club layout, operated analogue with automated start/stop control. It is still running like new, in the meantime, Class A4 Falcon has blown out its third motor on the same layout.
I think it's very revealing that other manufacturers are cautiously talking about a different era, where Hornby isn't trying own the whole hobby, but (perish the thought) considering what's best for the overall hobby in terms of competition vs. better coverage.
@@little_britain yeah I think it’s time to look forward to a more symbiotic set of relationships between manufacturers in this hobby. What’s been done in the past should not to be forgotten, and certainly lessons should be learned in what not to do, but it’s what happens from now on that’s relevant.

I remember watching a video where Simon Kohler let his fangs show in a conversation about another manufacturer revealing plans for a model, an old and tired version of which was in Hornby's back catalogue and he made it sound like a virtue to rush though a re-release of the loco to stymie the competitor's release. Truth is, there are enough prototypes and price points out there to keep a dozen manufacturers busy for the next 20 years.
Hi Chris & Greg. A Next18 won't fit into a Class 08: haven't various UA-camrs fitted one into a Class 08? If a UA-camr can, then Hornby can tweak their tooling (at a cost, obviously) to make one fit.
@@PaulSmith-pl7fo sort of. The 8 pin is an easier conversion as it has a wiring loom pre-soldered and can be fitted at an angle with some tweaking. The Nxt socket on the 18 is the problem for this kind of installation. I think they’re banking on getting the components right in the 6 first..
As far as the sale is concerned, I think they want to flush out some shelf stock and get some cash in hand, as well as letting Martyn put his stamp on the plan to get new hobbyists engaged.
Simon Kohler said it wasn't possible/allowed to have those "confidential conversations" with other manufacturers about which models were being developed to avoid duplication. What's changed? Duplication from Hornby, potentially intentionally, was the reason Heljan pulled out. This was a major set back for the scale. Based on Martyn's comments, will Hornby now back down and invite Heljan back in?
@LittleWicketRailway they (Heljan) quite reasonably put that image out there to get feedback on wether or not they should enter the scale. But way before SK made that statement/wish list (half of which won’t likely see the light of day for years if ever) they were already realising their 00 fan base were very much against it. In my humble opinion, they used that duplication issue as an excuse for bailing out. Ps if they really had been a reasonable way down the path of actual CAD work, they’d have brought their loco to market by now and it would been Hornby who would have dropped it from their list of potential future projects.
I still dont get it. If the marketing angle is space saving and this is the USP over OO why offer only large locos and coaches on 3rd radius curves? Yes its smaller then OO but you still need a considerable amount of space for any of the Tt hornby sets. We’re two years in why are they still waiting to box up the 08? I’m based in the UK I’d go for TT if it offered a space saving but it doesn’t
Hi Dutch. Interesting thoughts. I agree that the best space saving potential is not quite realised yet, but it’s coming with the smaller starter set mentioned. Go to a TT stockist, and get some in your hand, and I promise you, you’ll see just how much smaller it really is!
FLEXI TRACK. Why no Hornby flexi track? If you buy a set and want to progress and expand as a modeller, Flexi track is the way to go, especially if you want to connect up to a turntable and use it to fit out its roads. it offers a real opportunity to device a system for a turntable and track for its roads, utilising Hornby TT120 Flexi track if and when they get round to developing it. Hornby Flexi track that could really complement their expansion and commitment in both the scale and utilisation of the HM7000 decoder technology to run the turntable and move Hornby ahead of Peco in the TT120 track system system stakes. As we all now you cannot run any rolling stock, WITHOUT TRACK. Hornby need TT120 flexi track now and certainly if they are even thinking of developing a TT120 turntable to let modellers blend into a layout. .
A question for the next let’s talk, a retailer local to me said he would like to stock tt:120 but Hornby have said they have to stock everything, not cherry pick certain products. Which he said was a barrier to entry for him, he does stock west hill and peco items in tt so isn’t adverse to the scale. Maybe a limited stock roll out might push the scale more and help small model shops.

They need to start upping their game and producing things people want to buy though. Don't get me wrong, some of their stuff is great, but the new Black 5 was utterly woeful. That was a flagship model chance to wow everybody and it DID wow everybody, at how 💩 it was. I’ve got less faith in Hornby at the moment than I would have in a chocolate urn from which to make hot beverages. Put Options. Get ‘em on!!
I have to laugh at this video. The truth is TT is dead in the water and it hasn’t sold. If they didnt try to fleece everyone it would have sold in the first place.Just goes to show the amount of profit if the prices can be cut so much. Hornby need to wake up and realise, They are pricing themselves out of the hobby in all scales… investing in N gauge would have made a lot more sence for Hornby
@@PeachyTT120 Dnt get me wrong, I’m not being negative about the product, TT is an ideal size to space ratio. It’s just plain to see that Hornby as a company have made some very bad decisions and could have conked the market if the pricing structure had been aimed at the future customers of Model Rail. At the end of the day most of the products are sourced outside the UK and there is an extremely large profit margin. I’ll be quite honest, if the pricing was sensible id replace all my OO and N with TT. But sadly that wnt be happening at the current prices or lack of range

Excellent, it's allowed me to buy a 2nd Blue & Yellow 125 -7 car set, the order being split between Rails & TMC... I also have a 2nd L/Logo 50 that TMC are renumbering & renaming for me...a long lead time, but that's to be expected..😊

Perhaps they should test new markets like NZ for example as we cant get alot of tt120 out here which is a shame
When I first read some comments on Facebook I did think 'oh right...' but then after getting home last night and looking at what items were reduced I kind of though its an old stock clear out sale rather than we're moving on so its all going cheap.
I do hope that any future A1/A3/A4s get better quality motors in them, it's more a reliability issue for me than wanting to pull 18 wagons up an incline. I personally won't be buying anymore of these regardless of new liveries until the motors are sorted.
I'm looking forward to the next interview and hopefully another video from Hornby with the new products due out.

Flash sales and sale-outs are relatively normal to Tillig TT customers. It is just a clearing out of older, discontinued items at very reasonable prices to make space for new arrivals in the warehouse and has never been seen als "the end of TT". More like a last call to grab these discontinued models if interested as they will soon be sold out.
Even if Hornby do not discontinue their flash sale items, it is a great way to introduce these models to a wider audience. A friend of mine has just grabbed a complete HST train set as it is now in his financial range. And I couldn't resist on good old GBRf Class 08... again 😇

@@garryhall5552 My Class 50 Sir Edward Elgar has reached its 110th running hour on our club layout, operated analogue with automated start/stop control. It is still running like new, in the meantime, Class A4 Falcon has blown out its third motor on the same layout.
I confess to being concerned when the sales started so this is very reassuring.
I think it's very revealing that other manufacturers are cautiously talking about a different era, where Hornby isn't trying own the whole hobby, but (perish the thought) considering what's best for the overall hobby in terms of competition vs. better coverage.
@@little_britain yeah I think it’s time to look forward to a more symbiotic set of relationships between manufacturers in this hobby. What’s been done in the past should not to be forgotten, and certainly lessons should be learned in what not to do, but it’s what happens from now on that’s relevant.

I remember watching a video where Simon Kohler let his fangs show in a conversation about another manufacturer revealing plans for a model, an old and tired version of which was in Hornby's back catalogue and he made it sound like a virtue to rush though a re-release of the loco to stymie the competitor's release.
Truth is, there are enough prototypes and price points out there to keep a dozen manufacturers busy for the next 20 years.

Hi Chris & Greg. A Next18 won't fit into a Class 08: haven't various UA-camrs fitted one into a Class 08? If a UA-camr can, then Hornby can tweak their tooling (at a cost, obviously) to make one fit.
@@PaulSmith-pl7fo sort of. The 8 pin is an easier conversion as it has a wiring loom pre-soldered and can be fitted at an angle with some tweaking. The Nxt socket on the 18 is the problem for this kind of installation.
I think they’re banking on getting the components right in the 6 first..
As far as the sale is concerned, I think they want to flush out some shelf stock and get some cash in hand, as well as letting Martyn put his stamp on the plan to get new hobbyists engaged.

Duplication from Hornby, potentially intentionally, was the reason Heljan pulled out. This was a major set back for the scale. Based on Martyn's comments, will Hornby now back down and invite Heljan back in?

@LittleWicketRailway they (Heljan) quite reasonably put that image out there to get feedback on wether or not they should enter the scale. But way before SK made that statement/wish list (half of which won’t likely see the light of day for years if ever) they were already realising their 00 fan base were very much against it.
In my humble opinion, they used that duplication issue as an excuse for bailing out.
Ps if they really had been a reasonable way down the path of actual CAD work, they’d have brought their loco to market by now and it would been Hornby who would have dropped it from their list of potential future projects.
I still dont get it. If the marketing angle is space saving and this is the USP over OO why offer only large locos and coaches on 3rd radius curves? Yes its smaller then OO but you still need a considerable amount of space for any of the Tt hornby sets. We’re two years in why are they still waiting to box up the 08? I’m based in the UK I’d go for TT if it offered a space saving but it doesn’t
Hi Dutch. Interesting thoughts. I agree that the best space saving potential is not quite realised yet, but it’s coming with the smaller starter set mentioned. Go to a TT stockist, and get some in your hand, and I promise you, you’ll see just how much smaller it really is!
FLEXI TRACK. Why no Hornby flexi track? If you buy a set and want to progress and expand as a modeller, Flexi track is the way to go, especially if you want to connect up to a turntable and use it to fit out its roads. it offers a real opportunity to device a system for a turntable and track for its roads, utilising Hornby TT120 Flexi track if and when they get round to developing it. Hornby Flexi track that could really complement their expansion and commitment in both the scale and utilisation of the HM7000 decoder technology to run the turntable and move Hornby ahead of Peco in the TT120 track system system stakes. As we all now you cannot run any rolling stock, WITHOUT TRACK. Hornby need TT120 flexi track now and certainly if they are even thinking of developing a TT120 turntable to let modellers blend into a layout. .
A question for the next let’s talk, a retailer local to me said he would like to stock tt:120 but Hornby have said they have to stock everything, not cherry pick certain products. Which he said was a barrier to entry for him, he does stock west hill and peco items in tt so isn’t adverse to the scale.
Maybe a limited stock roll out might push the scale more and help small model shops.

They need to start upping their game and producing things people want to buy though. Don't get me wrong, some of their stuff is great, but the new Black 5 was utterly woeful. That was a flagship model chance to wow everybody and it DID wow everybody, at how 💩 it was. I’ve got less faith in Hornby at the moment than I would have in a chocolate urn from which to make hot beverages. Put Options. Get ‘em on!!

I have to laugh at this video. The truth is TT is dead in the water and it hasn’t sold. If they didnt try to fleece everyone it would have sold in the first place.Just goes to show the amount of profit if the prices can be cut so much. Hornby need to wake up and realise, They are pricing themselves out of the hobby in all scales… investing in N gauge would have made a lot more sence for Hornby

@@PeachyTT120 Dnt get me wrong, I’m not being negative about the product, TT is an ideal size to space ratio. It’s just plain to see that Hornby as a company have made some very bad decisions and could have conked the market if the pricing structure had been aimed at the future customers of Model Rail. At the end of the day most of the products are sourced outside the UK and there is an extremely large profit margin. I’ll be quite honest, if the pricing was sensible id replace all my OO and N with TT. But sadly that wnt be happening at the current prices or lack of range
