Cruz Azul has 9 league titles. A few years ago Cruz Azul was supposed to have sponsorship with FC Barcelona to supply cement for the renovations of Camp Nou.
Glad to see Vauxhall Motors get a mention here. Only 20 minutes from my house and they have a lot of youth teams and fantastic local talented children play for them across Cheshire and Merseyside. Shame that they had to drop out of the National League North into the 11th tier (West Cheshire League) in 2014, but they’re on their way back now it seems.
In fact, most soccer clubs in Japan, China, and Korea are founded by corporations. Although the naming of teams with corporate names has been banned in Japan and China, the relationship between corporations and club teams remains strong.
@@Ese96Agboaye Yes, in rugby and baseball, most teams have the name of the company. Most rugby and baseball teams have corporate names in their team names. This is no longer allowed in Japanese football clubs due to the emphasis on community-based football.
As much as I enjoy all the information on soccer teams, for me the best part of your videos hands down has to be the insight into the financial, political, and social aspects that contribute to the clubs and their communities. Keep up the great work.
Would love to see a similar video but for clubs with any strange Origins. Not just companies but any unusual beginnings. Love the videos Alfie keep up the good work.
CEMEX rivals to Cemento Cruz Azul, also owns a Football club in Mexico.... They were not the founders though. Tigres, originally founded by the University of Nuevo León, now managed bye CEMEX. Mexican Cement companies have been very participative at the Mexican Football landscape, either as owners or sponsors. Xolos de Tijuana is another mexican club founded and currently owned by the same company.

Day 1: 7 less known/competitive top-flight leagues that saw world class players played in there. (For example the Hong Kong Premier League) (Preferably those who attracted these players throughout a longer time, rather than the oil money leagues that only do so in recent years)

I thought we would get mentioned in the vid cuz of the title but since we didnt make it imma put this here: In the Hong Kong Top division we literally have 50% of the teams that has corporate mentions in the football club names, which I dont know if its is but its prob one of the highest out of any country's top flight
Day 69 - The Fall and Rise of FK Velež Mostar From a Club that has beaten Borussia Dortmund, Twente, Derby County and many others to a club that was forced from their own stadium, reduced to nothing during the Bosnian War, becoming a mediocre top-level team in the 00s to nearly being forced into folding in 2016 to its amazing comeback to European competitions in 2021 seeing the early exit of Greek giants AEK Athens in a sensational win in Athens!
There's quite a few teams formed and owned by Companies in Indonesia. Most of them are the remnants of Galatama, Indonesian semi-professional league from 1979 to 1994. Semen Padang FC (yeah it's their real name) is one of the clubs that still exists in the country's football pyramid. It's named and still owned by a state-owned cement company Semen Indonesia, through their subsidiary in the city of Padang, West Sumatra. Another example is Semen Tonasa FC, a South Sulawesi based club which also owned by another subsidiary of Semen Indonesia there. There's also Bank Sulselbar FC in South Sulawesi, owned by a bank with the same name.

There is a club in the northern zone of Thai League 3 in Phayao province owned by a rice milling company named "โรงสีแม่ใจธนะโชติวัฒน์ พะเยา" which literally means "Maechaithanachotiwat Phayao". Maechai refers to the name of the district where the mill is located although officially, it is spelled Mae Chai (two words, our romanisation is still a mess when it comes to names of individual entities). The whole Maechaithanachotiwat is the name of the milling company.
hey, could you please make a video about bohemians prague, a club that bought the name and logo of bohemians 05. this resulted in there being 2 clubs with the same name and crest in the czech first division in 09/10. and from what i've seen some other weird stuff was going on with them that season. might be something interesting to look at.
I wish Alfie looked into ISL too. There is Jamshedpur FC, which is owned and operated by Tata Steel of Tata Group (the biggest conglomerate in India). Their association with football is actually way older with their academy being the most famous football academy for a very long time. I wish they buy a stake in West Ham considering both are related to Iron. All hail Tatas ❤️🔥
A fact I like a lot is how many football clubs are a product of railroad companies, or their workers. On one extreme, how in Argentina there are at least 4 teams named after a single railroad line (CC Rosario, CC Santiago del estero, CC Tucuman, and Instituto Atlético CC)
the DFB rule regarding companies in club names is so confusing: how is Bayer Leverkusen allowed when Red Bull Leipzig isnt? With Bayer being one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in germany
They established the rule when Bayer Leverkusen already existed is my guess. So DFB let them keep their name but would not allow new clubs to take company names.
Red Bull Leipzig not only had to change it´s name but also its badge. They had up to the 3rd tier the red bull logo with the sun as a badge but when they got promoted to the secon tier they changed it into a ball
