Great games, all of them. My favorite is ikari III, the one where the ikari warriors forgot to bring their guns to a war.

Some of these games were actually bad, but some appear bad because whoever controls it absolutely sucks. Even Super Mario Bros 1 might seem like a "worst" game if you refuse to move to the right

Exactly. The same story for many 64 games.

I can make your games list look stunning. You can't get any worse than The Election Game by Mastertronic and it cost £2.99, not £1.99 for this utterly abysmal budget title that isn't even worth the tape space. If you want an arcade type game, then we have the terrible Escape MCP originally released by Rabbit Software in 1983.

Some of those looked like Spectrum games, in as much as the character blocking was the same, surely this can't be right.
I would only say, some of these would be fair if it was a type in from a mazagine and not something you paid hard cash for!

    • @JustJamie1983

That was just lazy ports. The speccy was famous for its "colour clash".

@@JustJamie1983 Lazy is an understatment. But a lot of time quite likely didn't care it was about knocking out low grade titles for a bit of cash. At expense of unsuspecting buyers. At least I never took quick cash for dirty ports.

The way I look at it is there were thousands of C64 games, hundreds of NES games, so there are many more AAA quality games on the C64 like R I SK or Wizardry to name just 2. I was lucky, only got about 5% stinkers lol

I was so disappointed with The Running Man because I had liked the movie. Commando 2 was also bad compared to the original which was a lot of fun. Back to the Future we tried some but couldn't figure out, and I remember trying Scooby Doo once, deeming it not even good enough to copy for free. So many bad fighting games in the late 80s to 1990 and 1991, geez...

Yup. That was generally the rule with movie game tie-ins. Bad games that guarantees to sell after a successful film.

I played a game back in the day made by one of our local group members called "The Pier" or some such. In it you watched a blocky helicopter enter the screen and eventually it would land on a dock and let a stickman out. You could move the guy left/right and when you pushed the button on the controller he would urinate. If this landed on the dock you would get game over. If you walked to the end of the dock though, and urinated in the water you would get a text screen "You win!" All of this in slow motion as well. I think it would have made at least beat a few of these games shown here. lol.

Kong 64 would have actually been a decent game, if it weren't for the crappy collision detection. Although that Kong game from Interceptor Software was just as bad IMHO.
After the War actually had potential to be a decent game, but it was just too damn slow and boring
Last Mission's only saving grace is the music is decent, albeit repetitive.
Crazy Cars 2 was equally awful as the first game, although Crazy Cars 3 was a decent game.
To be fair to Ghostbusters 2 and Highlander though, both of those games were god awful on every platform
I agree with your list overall. But I'd like to mention some (dis)honorable mentions...
    Game Over II
The C64 version of Super Hang-On (Nearly as bad as Chase HQ IMHO)
Dark Star (the one from Mastertronic)
The US VERSIONS of Ikari Warriors and Bionic Commando (we had different versions here in North America and they were both crap compared to the European versions)
Kenny Dalglish Soccer...to be fair though, most soccer/footy games on the C64 were either mediocre or below average) Only decent ones I can think of (excluding management sims) are Keith Von Eron's Pro Soccer (Microprose Soccer to you guys in Europe), Commodore's own International Soccer, and Emlyn Hughes International Soccer.
Sky Twice...horrible game, especially for a full priced game

Some great shitty game selections here. What I will say about PitFighter is, as dire as it was, it was FAR better than the unplayable SNES port

Some of these games aren't THAT terrible, but bad games nontheless. Final Fight, Ghostbusters II, Flintstones, Howard the Duck, Back to the Future, Vigilante and a few others seem to be almost bearable or even okayish.
I played Ghostbusters II from time to time, without beating that first level. It's almost ok, i think. Tried Flintstones without any success. Got Crazy Cars as an original, yes, it is pretty bad. Knight Rider, Chase HQ and Hard Drivin' are bad, too. Cobra is rather bad, but not that abyssmal (Maybe that's why it's only no. 50). These were the games i had played from this video.
In some games you seemed to have no idea, what to do: Back to the Future (it's an action adventure), Captain America, Barbarian, Howard the Duck, Fall Guy, Vampire's Empire etc.. A manual could have helped, i guess. Running around aimlessly doesn't help...
I have no problems with early games ('83-'85/'86) having simple graphics or single coloured sprites. What i hate are lazy Spectrum ports or games looking to be running on a Spectrum: Scooby Doo, Top Gun, Knight Rider (these three not really Speccy, but almost), Karnov (even with colour clash!!!), Chase HQ, Guardian Angel, Hard Drivin'. And Ninja Hamster (missing here).
BMX Ninja is also a terrible game and missing!

Exactly my thoughts to. Clearly at the time it was poorly executed. I'd imagine today, a modern day machine language programmer could make a much better job of it. It's likely a matter of time before somebody trys. Choas Engine for example is currently being worked on for a C64 port.

Cobra, Red Heat, Chase HQ, Karnov, BTILC, Pitfighter were playable but just not very good and flawed in some obvious way. There are far worse games than those which are utterly unplayable with no redeeming features - although you've found a good many of them! (e.g. Cisco Heat, which is my #1 for utterly unplayable garbage)
