Being a Pastor is a full-time job. I don't see how you manage to put up as many great videos as you do. So many people think a Pastor only works one day a week.
Love watching his channel and pastor wheeler and his dad the old man,, and I have definitely had some I should have given up on like the early 94 Chevy extended cab short bed Z71 Silverado tbi nightmare I've mentioned before but I didn't quit because people kept saying it would never run, and I was determined to fix it well I traded a $3,250 86 chevy k20 custom deluxe long bed and well used farm truck only needed the bad starter swapped and a good carburetor put on it I offered the guy it's quadrajet carburetor and the GP Sorenson rebuild kit he's like nope quadrajet carburetors are junk, anyway he was asking closer to $2,000 for the early 94, and it now runs fairly well except it's going to need fresh rod and main bearings from the major flooding issues it had and that they just drove it like that til it wouldn't take fuel input without crackling backfire flames out of the exhaust tips and through the glass pack mufflers and stainless cannon 3 1/2 inch slant cut stainless steel heartthrob brand exhaust tips on 2.25 inch pipe and the tips are 18 inch long sounds like a double barrel 12-16 gauge side by side shotgun being fired simultaneously needless to say the neighbors hated that truck... and the timing chain is getting slack in it so that needs replaced and I probably have close to another $2,700 in parts making the tbi truck run correctly so yeah just carb and hei distributor swap it,,I could have gone that way but even if I didn't keep the Z71 I know it has rust around the edges except for the bed the inner bedsides are shot.. it's still a truck alot of people look for to buy,, and I have a clear title to it,it is still one of the most straight bodies of the gmt400 extended cab short bed trucks I've seen.. I knew someone would still want it... my late brother's best friend,, turns out it had a weak fuel pump and the factory sending unit was half clogged up with sediment and rust, and the main two issues actually there are 3. The reason it was backfiring through the tbi occasionally if you tried to hurry it up moving was the right side injector was a 5279 a 305 fuel injector and the Dr side was a 5206 a 350 fuel injector so one side the passenger side was starving for fuel, and the oil sending unit sensor was the wrong one for the vehicle as the motor was from a older truck,it didn't have the fuel pump cut off circuit so when the truck would loose oil pressure it would just quit causing it to backfire out the exhaust tips, and the tbi distributor was rusted and corroded inside so I swapped it out and put a tsp southwest performance brand new billet aluminum distributor in it and swapped out the no name ignition control module for a ac Delco gm ds194 and the truck while on the battery charger fired right up, but usually the starter would about kill the battery starting the truck and that got replaced with a ac Delco professional service replacement gm mini high torque starter like these motors are supposed to have and it zings right over and fires the tps sensor had a dead spot just after idle, halfway through part throttle and just after full throttle so that got repaired and followed by new Napa black 7mm high temp resistant silicone jacket ignition wire set and ac Delco rt45ts spark plugs since I'm sure this motor has been washing the cylinders for about two years before I got the truck and no one fixed it my first clue was with the bad fuel pump starting it off the mt dew bottle with a quarter of the gas in the bottle into the sides of the tbi and it tried to run fine as long as you didn't give it any throttle response input.. and the oil smelled strongly like gas, unfortunately this truck has a 0.40 over 1 ton 4bolt main 638 block in it with decent speedpro pistons and rings but I am guessing it's going to eventually need to come out and be gone through again but after all that it's rebuilt transmission started slipping and I'm like nope I'm done someone else can feed this thing parts, and then my late younger brother's best friend decided he would like to own the truck and I ran into a deal on a th700r4 transmission i couldn't pass up and ended up buying a transmission for it anyway...ugh
Hey Rev. Lamar from Kustom Motors. Here in Abbeville SC. That's a good way to go with a Carb and HEI. You will need a pressure regulator for the carb. EFI is a higher pressure. Much Love from everyone here. Keep looking up and turning wrenches.
Same happened to me years ago Ford ranger 2.3 couldn’t rely on it to run past the mailbox! Changed from EFI to 2 bbl carb from an old pinto!!! No more problems!!!!
Funny, I was on 75 heading north in Georgia the other day, came up to the Butts county sign and you were the first thing that popped into my head, lol. I told my wife, keep an eye out for Rev
Pastor, check the firing order. I had a 78 Thunderbird that i built a 351W for. However, i forgot that I used a 302 grind cam in it. I fired it up, and it ran and drove, but ran poorly, with low power. I switched to the 302 firing order, and voila'!! Ran smooth as glass! Just a thought, as some of the newer 302s used the 351 firing order. By the way, i've been tuning into your morning services the past couple of weeks. Great messages! Revival is needed! Amen!
You just earned a new sub! My dad was an ASE certified mechanic so I’ve been around cars n trucks all my life. My dad was a Mopar type of guy, but he loved himself a Ford factory high boy! That’s probably the only Ford he would ever get caught in 😅 He passed away in 2021 from Covid, he would’ve loved your UA-cam channel!!
Gotta watch oriley for bad parts. I bought a f150 water pump. When i got home and opened the box there was a old greasy seized up water pump. Had to take it back. Im glad they believed me. CHECK YOUR PARTS right there at the counter at the store.
You are a very knowledgeable man, & VERY good at your craft. One thing I can say for sure is that you can't feed into/ let the comments get to you. Some people are just self hating, insecure projecting beings. Keep up the great work, & don't read the comments! 😂
28:00 was watching Rev's hands whilst he's explaining a thought Rev had nail polish on 😮. But then I realized that it was ford grease that stuff will stain everything. Some stock engines will use a dual plane intake but most perfer single plane. It is what I have learned from my own experience. 🙏
Pastor David your are persistent. You putting on a regular carburetor was the solution. But, with all’s on your plate. Making time to work on this Ford. Loved seeing your varsity. That’s about all I would do just keep trying. Love you brother ❤️ And thanks for sharing. 💯👍👊 Maybe we need to pray over it. 🙏🏻
The metering rods on that carb are a GREAT design. I love taking them out and dropping them in from the top. I just did the same thing with a Chevy. By far the throttle cable bracket was the worst part, cutting and welding and more of the same. Simple always works.
Dont get frustrated Rev. Dont give up on it... it's a nice truck. Love the intro... that made me laugh pretty hard. I had my earpiece in, and my wife looked at me like i had lost my mind!😂 She might not be wrong!😂 Love your content, blessing to you and your family.
On the passenger side of there's 3 plugs, the center one is the pressure, put a oil pressure gauge and the pressure should be 30psi if not you need to adjust the cable on the carburetor
my old man did this to his 99 f150 but on some "like his 99" they some sensors you dont gotta put em where they go but have em plugged in order to shift right but man that method works when you cant get em running stock slap on a carb! great job Rev! i could tell my old man was enjoying watching you do what he always dose
Rev Sounds to me you may have the firing order wrong, Ford small blocks have 2 different firing orders. I have had a couple people bring their hot rod fords to me complaining that it just didn’t have the power they expected and every time they were using the older firing order and switching the plug wires smoothed them right out. Also all the shift points are controlled by the TV cable attached to the carburetor, edelbrocks require a geometry correction bracket for that cable. Congrats on getting it running!
I believe Robertdickens2002 was correct, it should be the non H.O. Firing order. I’m thinking of the 5.8 EFI being the same as the H.O. Work on too much stuff to keep things straight. But it definitely sounds like a couple wires are crossed at least.
Give that boy one of those great old cars you fixed up, take all the good parts off that truck and scrape it, don't mean nothing by it , but that's what I would do. Thanks for the great videos!!
Rev, you are so much fun to watch. I enjoy you and your dad's videos immensely. I'm about to change my 86 camaro z28 tuned port injection car over to a carburetor. You give me hope that mine will run much better with a carburetor than fuel injection.
Take to wrenching with Kenny. If you got a tac in dash, dont hook it up cause it wont be right it be to fast.Sounds like you got 2 plug wires cross and that will cause trans trouble.✌️
For anyone wondering this works for the AOD or manual transmission but the E4OD is an electronic controlled trans. I have an E4OD and am going with a cope racing manual valve body to make it fully mechanically shifted
I have a 1985 Bronco II that the computer quit working and many of the vacuum lines were rotted off of it. and some of the vacuum selenoids weren't working. so I thought about it what it would cost to fix all that crap? vs what it would cost replace all that crap? it has a 2800cc 2.8L V6 that had a motocraft two barrel carburetor without a ported vacuum connection. because the TFI distributor doesn't have vacuum advance. and so I looked through motocraft carburetors and found one that looked like a good replacement for the one that was on the engine. and then I took drive to the wrecking yard and got a Duraspark distributor out of a Mustang. and got a duraspark module went back home and put the parts on the Bronco. and wired up the duraspark ignition system. and that was fifteen years ago and the Bronco II still runs great. and now I have a 1989 F 250 4x4 and I have made up my mind that I'm to do the same thing to it. with it with an aluminum intake manifold and a four barrel carburetor. and a Duraspark distributor and an MSD ignition module. I could hear a dead skip in your truck. you need to get the misfire out of it? you need to check your spark plugs and wires and if they check out ok. you need to do a compression test because it's definitely got a dead hole in it. you get rid of that skip and it will probably run great?
It sounds as if the engine is not running on all cylinders. I suggest you first perform a cylinder output test to determine which cylinder (s) is not firing. Then you can proceed and do a compression test, check the firing order, check the spark plug cables for continuity, check your spark plugs, check the distributor cap for cracks. I'm only close to 80 years old and may have forgotten one or two more things that you may need to do. But the ones I mentioned shall lead to to finding the problem. Oh yes, if you have access to an oscilloscope, you will find the problem easier and quicker. I was blessed with the opportunity to train many kids that came back from Vietnam in the Auto-Diesel Tech field. May the HS, our Helper, lead you to successfuly find the problem.
Rev, the only thing I can say is that you need to do your due diligence. Many ppl think that slapping on a Carb on it and it magically works, well as you can tell it just don’t work. Now you done that, you may as well go ahead and remove that E4OD and slap a manual in it.
@@RevStoration let me go re watch ole bishop, see what’s different then I can come up with a good answer. To be fair, my 91 and my 96 with the 5.0 never had this specific issue, but similar.
I have a 1989 F150 and it has EFI and the only problem I ever had with it was the ignition switch would not work but I have a workaround for that only took a relay and a momentary switch and it has worked perfectly never had any problems with it at all since. I don't know why you have been having so much trouble with that EFI on that truck. Never seen anyone go backwards and use a carb. But you did do it and it did start with a carb on it just need to stop a couple vacuum leaks and then call it good. Thanks for the video.
I’m getting ready to have to replace the 302 in my ‘86, only reason I considered a carb conversion is the fact that I don’t want to deal with rewiring everything… the only engine issues I’ve had with it weren’t related to the EFI at at; sucker was even running with the EGR valve intake port completely crudded shut.
Something that a lot of people don't look at is the harmonic balancer if one things go bad it will make your car run like crap and you end up spending all kinds of money trying to figure out what it is and it keeps on doing this same garbage so have a look at your harmonic balancer make sure that it is in good condition there's a lot of videos out here that will show you about it that's what was wrong with my truck I replaced all my fuel injectors the timing the spark plugs all kinds of sensors and it come to find out that the harmonic balancer was bad that was my whole problem
It seems like it is not getting the feed to the electrical solenoid switches are not getting the power to trigger them and shift this transmission, but I do know that they make a standalone computer for putting those transmissions in the older vehicles without the efi and the ones setup with a carburetor so you might look into that, can't remember what all connections and sensors the e40d transmission has that it has to have the computer to shift this transmission through the gears..
Rev. Was the ford distributor new . the one you took off. For the HEI. The Electronic piece on the side have been known to do the exact thing that was going on the motor running then dying or not running at all. Lon from Ohio...
I've done some research recently (because I'm looking into getting one myself for a project), and the transmission in the F-150 might still be the Ford AOD withOUT a computer to control the shifting. The shifting is all controlled by the TV cable going to the now carburetor.
@@RevStoration I've always heard you should make sure they're both wide open at the same time as In hold accelerator wide open and fully extend tv cable and they should both match up
Best guess is it wouldnt crank when it was put back together due to a security issue. The computer wouldnt allow the engine to start because a sensor was either not hooked up or had a bad connection. Congrats on getting it going though
The Edelbrock is a great street able carb but is prone to flooding and tuning issues without a pressure regulator set at 5-5.5 psi, with that you’re golden…otherwise you have issues like the dead spot transitioning off the idle circuit…
Hey Rev, you are a patient man. You did get the old girl running and mobile again. But hey I was thinking what about the Mercury Montclair 390 and tranny for your son's pick up??
Had the exact issue with my 92 f150. Ended up being an intermediate short in the ecu. Ordered a “reman” ecu and it was worse than the broken one. Ended up getting a used ecu from a parts truck and it runs like a dream. Aftermarket is junk these days. I’ve replaced so many items with old parts and the truck keeps running better.
i have an 88 f150 and it would idle at 3000 rpm. found out the intake bolts were all loose except 4 of them. i had a burned valve and a blown head gasket.. the check valve in the back of the engine for the smog pump was burned out i almost got it fixed up only paid 200 bucks for it it is a 302 and a 5 spd manual and a 4x4.
First time commentor, also new subcriber. Absolute great video on turning a EFI built mill into a carbed swap. The only thing I think you're miss is what you need to control the transmission. If it's EFI you just pulled out everything you need for that transmission to "know" what it's doing. You'll need a stand alone unit, or swap it to a stick. Which also isn't hard. Been messing with my own daily driver. If I can offer up advice, let me know.
Saw mustang 302's had longtime problem of distributor of overheating, causing stall . Gal at Advace saiud she had 3 ford pick-ups, all she had to place a remote aluminum heat dissipating plate n wiring from distributor, so fun
Need to check with junk yard digs he's pretty good with the Ford's and the carburators. Very knoledgable.with both. I am with yah on Derek but junkyard dig's is my reference to Ford's and the carbs.
2 things 1 the fuel pump in the tank is way to strong psi for the needle seat in the carb, watch for flooding 2 the trans is an aod with tv cable, it is not computer controlled, aode. There is a special bracket for edelbroke carbs (Holley has diff bracket) to get the ratio of throttle position and trans cable pull correct. You can’t use the one you got, wrong ratio. Improper pull will toast the trans in a ny minute. Improper pressure.
Being that Rev’s truck is a 1987 F-150, There is a very good possibility that the transmission in the 1987 is an early E4OD with the drain plug in the torque converter just like the transmission that is in my 1990 F-150 in which I have been considering a C6 swap being that my transmission slips. The guy at the local transmission shop indicated that being that the E4OD transmission was computerized that a ReMan or any other E4OD would have to be be flashed with the engine computer to make it work - That’s why I am thinking of swapping to a C-6 transmission. My truck has the 4.9 liter engine and with all of the exact same “Crap” that David’s engine once had on it The electronic stuff works until it doesn’t which becomes a huge problem when the “Crap” no longer works.
Its your TPS, it needs to be hooked up to the throttle linkage on the passenger side of carb so it will send the correct RPMs for your transmission to shift.
Yes 4bbl carb vacuum advance hei distributor swap this sucker so your son can enjoy his truck and it can quit giving you all fits... and I would have to guess it is either having computer issues again or the power feed or ground circuit to or through the ecm is not present maybe even a failed hall effect switch in the bottom of the electronic distributor...
You know a welder and some steel an a grinder with a cutoff wheel you can make all the break it's you need to go to carb kick down throttle maybe cruise control
Rev, I've got a Holley 600 cfm that has a vacuum leak at the butterfly shaft. I don't know how to fix it, but its been rebuilt with new gaskets and metering block seals. If you would like it, lemme know.
Hi Sir. I was amazed the carb didn't flood, due to the high pressure fuel pump. The computer is looking for the mess of sensors to tell the transmission when to shift. Maybe and old school Aod or C6 transmission would fix the shifting problem ? your doing great by the way. May God bless in these crazy times.
Your truck, has a TV cable, for the transmission. It is not computer controlled. The AOD-E (electronically controlled) was introduced in 1993. Any time you see a TV cable, the transmission is manually operated. You, have to have, the TV cable adjusted properly, for proper transmission operation. Improper TV cable adjustment, will burn the transmission up. Simply hooking it up, is not sufficient. Just my 2 cents.
It seems positioned correctly bc it isn't tight and at full throttle.. it doesn't go any further. I may try to find correct bracket.. Any ideas where? Summit?
@@RevStoration The, best I can do right now is, look up bad shoe productions. There, is a snippet online, on the how to, of the AOD TV cable adjustment. We're so limited, on what to post here. Thank you, for your service!
Hi, try to find a Motorcraft carb with good throttle spindles from a junkyard, does the transmission have its own module, curious, sticking solenoids maybe, junkyard video would be cool, enjoyed the video
Planning to buy a fox that’s been swapped like this. It got my attention because I spotted the hei in the pic and knew it meant someone knew what they were doing lol
It was simply 2 fouled plugs.. urggg! ua-cam.com/users/shortsaBWn25HG1J0?feature=share
Crazy how coincidences work sometimes
efi hardly ever fails on theses
I’m glad it was the spark plugs that needed changed
change the plugs to e3 it'll run better

Hi Rev, check, re-check, re-re-check your firing order. Acts like 2 plug wires are crossed. Have seen and done this many times myself. Good luck.
That's what it sounds like. So hard to tell from miles away but just that slight roughness is a big clue.
Your frustration is so funny… cracking me up lol
It is funny now but in the moment... it wasn't! Thanks for watching!
best advice i can give rebuilding carbs or anything really take pictures we all have phones nowadays with camera
Pictures are valuable when you are knee deep and lost.
Keeping it simple always works the best.
Just keep at it Rev you will get it.
I had a 1986 f150 302 efi done the same thing. And couldn’t figure it out. So I changed it over to a carb. Fixed my problem forever.
Welcome back Rev!
Hey Rev. I have one of those remote starters but I can't figure out how to hook it up to the starter. Is it the same on a ford as a Chevrolet?
Great job Rev , something things just didn’t work out, glad you got it sorted out and running again…
Hellow David an your dad good to see y'all good luck
We're going to put you on our prayer list until. You start working on Chevrolet's Thank you for the video. As always, very entertaining....😂😊
Please do.. that would be bad!
Some vehicles just stump you no harm no foul most of the keyboard warriors have never fought with an old piece of junk. Great job Rev
Rev, the only thing I can say is that you need to do your due diligence. Many ppl think that slapping on a Carb on it and it magically works, well as you can tell it just don’t work. Now you done that, you may as well go ahead and remove that E4OD and slap a manual in it.
The 88 bronco works fine with the same set up.. this one doesn't!
Because he doesn’t understand it’s efi. These are stupid easy to fix and keep running. That carb is junk compared to the efi it has within.
I’m converting to carb just to get rid of all that junk under the hood. That mess makes my ocd flair up😂
Something that a lot of people don't look at is the harmonic balancer if one things go bad it will make your car run like crap and you end up spending all kinds of money trying to figure out what it is and it keeps on doing this same garbage so have a look at your harmonic balancer make sure that it is in good condition there's a lot of videos out here that will show you about it that's what was wrong with my truck I replaced all my fuel injectors the timing the spark plugs all kinds of sensors and it come to find out that the harmonic balancer was bad that was my whole problem
Don't let it get you down Rev, even the professional UA-camrs fail.
Gr8 video Rev. Good luck with the F150
That transmission is not computer controlled but that tv cable is very critical and has to be adjusted just right or you'll burn it up quick
Rev where have you and the old man been, i am waiting on another great video form you folks
Daddy is presently in ICU awaiting future steps.. We are praying he recovers and can be working on rigs soon.
It's great to see a other video from you. Even though I've subscribed nothing has been coming up in my feed. I'll have to keep a better eye out
I've done some research recently (because I'm looking into getting one myself for a project), and the transmission in the F-150 might still be the Ford AOD withOUT a computer to control the shifting. The shifting is all controlled by the TV cable going to the now carburetor.
It is hooked up but may not be right.
@@RevStoration I've always heard you should make sure they're both wide open at the same time as In hold accelerator wide open and fully extend tv cable and they should both match up
Tps senser has to be install to control trans computer
I love watching your videos
Good effort.
Best guess is it wouldnt crank when it was put back together due to a security issue. The computer wouldnt allow the engine to start because a sensor was either not hooked up or had a bad connection. Congrats on getting it going though
It got figure out old school style.
If nothing else works, pray about it. That works most of the time.
The passenger side of the transmission the 3 plugs
You need to buy the bracket for the carb and make sure you have the transmission TV cable is adjusted right or the transmission will burn up
He probably has a c6. That’s what’s in mine.
Does it still have the cat it might be backed up if runs good In park and cuts out when you put it under load kinda like a misfire
U tried ur best Rev thats all that matters
Had the exact issue with my 92 f150. Ended up being an intermediate short in the ecu. Ordered a “reman” ecu and it was worse than the broken one. Ended up getting a used ecu from a parts truck and it runs like a dream. Aftermarket is junk these days. I’ve replaced so many items with old parts and the truck keeps running better.
Hello Rev and the ole man
Cool truck. When everything’s fixed, the only bolt you’ll be turning on it for the next decade will be the oil drain plug.
i have an 88 f150 and it would idle at 3000 rpm. found out the intake bolts were all loose except 4 of them. i had a burned valve and a blown head gasket.. the check valve in the back of the engine for the smog pump was burned out i almost got it fixed up only paid 200 bucks for it it is a 302 and a 5 spd manual and a 4x4.
I love Watching your videos such an inspiration, been going through a rough time but your videos uplift me and God bless you
All that spaghetti wiring under the hood would make me just shut the hood and walk away. Good job!
Did Rev say Hell @ 2:26 of video?
I had to listen but I said "hound!" I would've thought the alternative as well.
Prayers for you rev 😢
2 things
1 the fuel pump in the tank is way to strong psi for the needle seat in the carb, watch for flooding
2 the trans is an aod with tv cable, it is not computer controlled, aode. There is a special bracket for edelbroke carbs (Holley has diff bracket) to get the ratio of throttle position and trans cable pull correct. You can’t use the one you got, wrong ratio. Improper pull will toast the trans in a ny minute. Improper pressure.
Fuel pume can have a bypass flow control trans i not sure YET
Being that Rev’s truck is a 1987 F-150, There is a very good possibility that the transmission in the 1987 is an early E4OD with the drain plug in the torque converter just like the transmission that is in my 1990 F-150 in which I have been considering a C6 swap being that my transmission slips.
The guy at the local transmission shop indicated that being that the E4OD transmission was computerized that a ReMan or any other E4OD would have to be be flashed with the engine computer to make it work - That’s why I am thinking of swapping to a C-6 transmission.
My truck has the 4.9 liter engine and with all of the exact same “Crap” that David’s engine once had on it
The electronic stuff works until it doesn’t which becomes a huge problem when the “Crap” no longer works.
💯
@@TheIronDuke502e4od doesn't have a tv cable
@@RobertDickens2002 Wasn’t exactly sure, The TV function must be done through the computer I assume.
Its your TPS, it needs to be hooked up to the throttle linkage on the passenger side of carb so it will send the correct RPMs for your transmission to shift.
I think think when you get it . Gonna have a good truck.
I enjoyed this video Pastor Wheeler, I hope to see more Sir, God Almighty Bless you and your family.
Need to change the ignition module on side of distributor
Transmission issue could be that TV cable isn't adjusted properly. The fabbed bracket and carb throttle linkage could be putting tension on it.
If the throttle shaft boss is worn, you can put bushings on it.
U will get it done 👍👍👍👍👍😊
This is a future project for my 96
Adjust the cable that goes to the transmission and that will make it shift better and fix the problem.
Finally an answer that makes sense
Well one thing you got running a lot better than it was God Bless
Truth
Make sure to get the TV cable on the AOD set correctly so you done burn up the trans
If the truck has a tachometer try hooking it up for shifting the transmission better???
Will do!
Put a small block Chevy in that ol Ford, lol 😂😂
I had already installed a 4-7lb pump.. therefore no flooding. The engine was down two fouled plugs.. easy!
I miss my garden and we just bought a house in next spring we're going to start planting
Just my 2 cents.
u r correct 👍
Rev needs to get an aftermarket tv cable bracket made for carbs and adjust it properly.
RE tranny problem, could it be something to do with the lockdown cable adjustment and the cruise control, lockdown cable might be to tight
Good job,enjoy your videos.
Planning to buy a fox that’s been swapped like this. It got my attention because I spotted the hei in the pic and knew it meant someone knew what they were doing lol
Nice work 👌🙏 I have same carburator (edelbrock) also have that dead spot, how do you get rid of the dead spot?
