Never give up! I hope u have a nice junk yard or U pull it close by so u don't have to pay retail for parts on the F150. I believe u will know every single square inch of that motor now. U got the bolts down pat since u keep breaking them. Love the videos Rev! Keep them rolling! Prayers to the family and speedy recovery for the moms.

Hey Rev, I’d like to chime in here in the comments. I had a 90 f150 that almost made me quit the hobby. (It’s on my channel a little bit.) It was CLEAN, however I could not for the life of me get it to run right and efficiently. I swear it got like 5mpg and it was the 4.9 straight six. I threw parts at it and it left me stranded multiple times. It seemed like every single dang time I used the truck, something new broke. Headlight switch, a piece of trim, a new leak developed, etc. Also, the quality of replacement parts for these trucks is terrible so every now and again id have to replace a part twice because the first one was bad out of the box. I sold that truck for an incredible loss and haven’t regretted it since. That’s just my experience though. God bless

You are so right. I can recount three instances when I saw how Ford tried to make consumers dependent on their parts dept so they could extort the max profit from their customer base. Nice way to do business, huh?

    • @traviscallicoat4853
      @traviscallicoat4853 11 місяців тому +1

Doing a carb conversion is easy hell my 1990 f250 was so messed up electrically that me and my dad took everything off of a 1978 f150 and wired it up to my f250 including the duraspark box and a carbed 302. I was gonna carb swap my 351w but it jumped time so I went and got a 302 out of a 86 Thunderbird which is a throttle body cause you can pull that throttle body off and bolt a 2 barrel carb right down in its place

  • @cliffordkinnear9705

The F150 may have fixed itself. There is a possibility that one or more fuseable links have corroded internally. What that means is the copper wire strands have corroded away to the point of making intermittent contact/electrical conductivity. I would check each of the links (they look like regular wires but are yellow and or black with rubber sleeves on them thicker than the wires. They all run past the battery and the right inner fender. You can use a sewing needle to probe each fuseable link for 12 volt power with the key to the on position. Wiggle the wire or wire bundle up down a bit to see if you get intermittent voltage. If you do then that wire or fuseable link wire needs to be repaired or replaced. The "Old Man" or your son can help you test/probe each of the wires. God Bless!!!

I worked in the automotive industry for over thirty years and have wanted to quit 1000 times and set a car down a hill on fire and call the insurance company.... But I stopped working on the problem vehicle and had a RC Cola and Moonpie and just gave my mind time to reset .
After I got Covid a year and a half ago and spent 2 weeks in ICU it destroyed my life and damaged my lungs. I was left bed ridden and just in the past few months been able to get off oxygen and be able to walk more than 1000 feet without having to take a break. I found your channel and It reminds me of me and my dad growing up in North Alabama fixin on old Chevys. I started reading the verses you included in your videos and they have helped me through also. You have helped me more than you could ever know and I hope you continue to make content.

I have had my 2002 Ford aF-150 Lariat for 21 9:19 years now. Purchased it brand spanking new in 2002.
The only things I have replaced is 3 sets of tires, 4 batteries and had to replace 4 cop's
(coil over plug) one at a time and one alternator ( it workrd, but the rear bearing on it lost most of the ball bearings) and recently all 4 brakes, so:
GOOD LORD, WHAT A FORD I have!!

Seeing that timing chain cover instantly takes me back to my 83 f150 with a 351w. That thing kept on leaking coolant from the top of the cover. Decided one day I was gonna fix that. Re did the timing chain cover and guess what it leaked from the same spot as before. Decided to do the timing chain cover again, this time with a brand new cover. Followed all the procedures and torque specs. And now I don't have an external coolant leak but now my oil is milkshake. So i think my timing chain cover is letting coolant leak into my oil pan. (HARD face palm) I don't know what to do with it at this point. I don't think re doing to timing chain cover again will help. I really don't understand why ford made the cover the way they did. The design is just asking for a coolant leak. I think chevy did a much better job with their small blocks. Blasphemy to a ford guy I know. I just don't get why ford engineers things they way they do. Just like the oil filter on that same truck. Its a total pain to get a filter on and off that truck. Its a big filter and EVERYTHING is in the way of it. but that's a story for another day.

there's a bolt hole in the timing cover that does not get used on the 'newer' water pumps. It's right at the spot where you have your leak. The water pump gasket 'should' cover this hole to prevent a leak. It doesn't always do the job, hence the leak. You can fill the hole with rtv or some such.

The only things I replaced on my truck was the starter, the rear fuel pump, and the power steering megunisum but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance, took out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.

Interesting how some of these trucks seem to be so troublesome. I bought an 86 F250 for $900 almost 12 years ago, and while I've done a lot to it to make it a nicer truck to drive, I've had to do very few actual repairs to it, and it's never left me stranded. I'm at 252,000 on mine. Most of the repairs I've had to do, were from crappy replacement parts not lasting in the first place.

    Know how you feel rev
I have a 91 ranger that I tinker with when I can’t work outside on other projects.
I have a very rough idle that comes and goes
I’ll figure it out one of these years!!

I had an ‘85 ford ranger I bought new, it had a v6 and 5 speed manual transmission, loaded with ac etc., one summer day I backed it up a driveway and for no real reason I just popped the clutch to shut the engine off, later on when I was ready to leave the engine would not start (engine would spin but there was no spark), well the ignition module which was bolted to the side of the distributor with tiny little screws that took a very slim socket was bad, so I replaced it and everything was fine, then one day when I was leaving work I accidentally stalled the engine out trying to take off, and guess what? it would not start back, the module was bad again. So thinking back to the time before when i purposely stalled it I remembered then too that I was also running the ac. There was some weird wiring issue that would fry the module if you stalled the engine while the ac was running??? From that day forward I never ran the ac again, I eventually sold the truck without ever trying figure out what the issue really was.

Those, broken bracket bolts, would've came out easy enough, with a mig welder. Flux core, also. Would've been, my plan. When the passenger side exhaust manifold is removed, you have to move or remove the transmission dip stick tube. Outside temperature, will cause the ATF to expand. That's where the ATF leak came from.

Just a suggestion, a code reader will come in really handy. Everything went to OBD II in 1996. You have OBD I. A scanner can't read the codes.

Those plastic fuel lines are fairly easy to make or repair. Be patient with that old Ford. Just imagine when God is working on us and we keep kicking back like that old truck does.
