    People get this confused a lot but grilling and BBQ are two separate cooking methods. I believe you are familiar with grilling over a fire things like steaks and burgers. We grill meat at home a lot that way. American BBQ is a longer slow cook method. Meat is slowly cooked with heat and smoke for at least a good 12 hours if not more.

      its the fault of the US for calling an outdoor grill a bbq. real bbq is made with a smoker and indirect heat. which is the opposite of "A bbq" which is basically just a grill.

    Brisket was first made popular by the Mexican Vaqueros ,basically cowboys.
    The rancher would give the Vaqueros the brisket because it wasnt a favored cut of beef and it could feed a lot of people.
    They learned real quick that putting in a pit with coals and burying it then letting it slow cook 10 to 20 hours made it tender.
    Thats why Texans specializes in brisket. In Texas we dont put sauce on brisket it can be considered an insult to the pit master although it is common for people to put sauce on brisket these days.
    The standard way to serve brisket in Texas is to make a sandwich using two pieces of plain white bread with brisket,onions and thin sliced dill pickles....and yes a little sauce if it's from the flat of the brisket which is a little drier than the point which is has a lot more fat.
    They are described as dry or wet when they ask you which you prefer. The wet otherwise known as the point is the best although a combo of wet and dry is popular.

      Yeah feel that brah. I was an oven guy at a traditional Italian American pizza place, trying to make the pies like the home country rather than greasy American ones, for a long while and I would have to warn the new guys to not think something was ok to pick up just because I picked it up. I then demonstrated by picking up a scolding hot metal pan that had been sitting on top of the oven for half the day. They just brushed it with their hand real quick to feel the temperature to see if I wasn’t BSing them and they both yelped back asking what was wrong with me and if I didn’t feel pain 😂. Anyway god bless and good luck out there.

The AC was broken at the place too so it was on average 105 degrees or more in there so I think some really greasy American style pizza would’ve destroyed me. Hi G, Sophie, and Aiden.
    I love southern BBQ. There is nothing in the world to compare it to.
    My favorite is the St. Louis ribs slathered in the hottest homemade BBQ sauce.
    For G the portions are huge in the South, so people don't go home hungry. In fact, many patrons take part of their meal home for a late night snack, or lunch the next day.
    Also, pies are a southern specialty and tradition, so each customer receives a big slice.
    The meat the hosts tried was probably part of a sample platter that the owner offered. Sometimes, these are on the menu, and sometimes they are not.
    Regarding Okra, it is a thin vegetable that when cut reminds me of small jalapenos, but with a bland taste.
    For Aidan, Americans love to eat finger foods. BBQ is a huge comfort food, so the tables usually have a paper towel roll, or wet wipes to use. No one is embarrassed when they eat.
    I am glad ya'll enjoyed it. ❤

    Okra: "What's it similar to?" - God... nothing... I hope. It almost resembles a fat, ridged, green bean on the vine. Okra is used pretty exclusively in Southern cooking in the US, especially in stews like gumbo, as it's used as a thickener. Fried, it's fine. It tastes like most fried veggies, lots of batter with a hit of "veggie" from the inside. In stews... it's slimy. Slimy is the word I'd go for. The slime okra gives off when cooking is what thickens the stew.

    Southern BBQ is smoked meat (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, sausage) that has either a rub or sauce on it. BBQ sauces vary by state and region some places using either ketchup, mayo, mustard or vinegar based sauces and some places using only a spice rub before cooking. But there is overlap so none of these would be exclusive to any area. My homemade BBQ sauce uses ketchup but I also add vinegar and mustard to it.

    Fried okra is one of my favorite foods. Okra itself is a soft vegetable, some don't like the texture because it's kind of slimy inside with these soft pods within (you eat the entire thing.) But when fried, it's crunchy, a bit salty and just delicious. Some also eat pickled okra and okra is often in certain Cajun dishes as well.

    If you do come to Georgia please visit places outside of Atlanta and Savannah as well . There are some beautiful mountain towns and waterfalls. Cloudland Canyons is gorgeous too and you don’t even have to hike it. There’s a parking at the top lol. Also visit Ruby Falls which is a waterfall inside of a cave system and Rock City which supposedly you can see multiple states from the top. Tybee Island is one of my favorite spots and it’s only 16 miles from Savannah

    I grow several varieties of okra in my garden every year. Love it. It’s best raw imo., or added to dishes towards the end of cooking. If it’s not cooked right (overcooked), it can be quite slimy 😬

    Southern bbq is different depending on what state you’re in. In Texas it’s more brisket. In Tennessee it’s more ribs and in North Carolina where I live bbq is synonymous with pulled pork

    Grilling and barbecue or two different things. Grilling is hot and fast and barbecue is low and slow. You use high heat for grilling and low heat for barbecue.

    HMM. As a Southern Alabama boy raised on Okra, the best way I can think of to describe Okra is it taste like Okra. Sorry I just don't know of any other vegetable to compare it to. When you try it you will understand.

    flats all my life. didn't like drumettes for the longest time, but I grew to like 'em.
    bleu cheese dressing is great.
    always been a finicky clean eater, but I make exceptions for this finger food like ribs or wings, or corn, anything on a bone or cob, i've come to terms with having to wash my hands and face thoroughly afterwards.

    I honestly don't think the gal on the left has ever been out of her house. She doesn't know the difference between a drum stick and a wing? Ya know there's a whole bird, with different cuts on it. There's a breast a leg (drum stick) thighs, wings.

  • @davemcbroom695
    @davemcbroom695 11 місяців тому +1

    Ya, I think most Brits feel that way about wings. Growing up in the States you get started on Hispanic or yet Mexican food and by the time you do eat hot wings there isn't a big difference except maybe the vinegar.

    Okra is big in Southern and Cajun cooking, a good way to have it is either fried or in gumbo. I'm going to England in October and lets just say I am not as excited about the food as y'all are for eating U.S. food. I'm going to try everything, except blood sausage, that's a hard no.

  • @BeboRulz

    Normally when you order, you get 1 to 3 types of meat not ALL of them lol Same goes for the sides. They did that for the video.
    Brisket is not a steak. It is cooked in a smoker for 12-16 hours and the only pink you see is from the smoke ring on the outside.
    Y'all may know brisket better as the cut used to make corned beef or pastrami. It comes in either the point or flat cut. The point is fattier (if memory serves).

    • @TheDeadStretch
      @TheDeadStretch 11 місяців тому

      Huh? Normally when you order you get the meat you ask for. For videos like this the owner is just giving them a variety platter so they can try everything for the video.

    • @BeboRulz
      @BeboRulz 11 місяців тому

      @TheDeadStretch yup, I get the 2 or 3 meat platter. WISH there was an all meat platter lol
      G said she couldn't get all that meat because it's too much. So I was just saying they did aaaaaaalll the stuff for the video so they could try more. They pay for it but it's not an option for us normals lol.

    40+ years ago in Hampton Roads area Carlos Murphy's was the place to go to get ribs. The waitresses would put an apron sized bib on you, set a mini trash can on the table in front of you and wipe your hands and your face clean when you were done. I wonder if they still do that?
