To be fair, grits have to be prepared a specific way for each person. Apparently, that specific bowl of grits was not prepared to his liking. It does NOT mean that grits are terrible everywhere.
Most restaurants put ZERO salt in them so they have no flavor at all.
Exactly! Grits must be done right to be good!
If we're being honest grits are gross by themselves without salt or any flavoring. Loading them up with cheese or butter or bacon or honey etc is what makes it fire. I never eat grits without loads of something. lol
@@FEARNoMore salt, pepper, butter, sausage crumbles, & cheese! Lol
I always ate mine with butter and sugar and often with breakfast sausage links as a kid in the 70s
Because Waffle House never closes, there's a well-known sort of index for how dangerous something like a hurricane is because if it causes a Waffle House to close, you'd better not be in the area.
It's called the "Waffle House index." A former FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) director coined the term saying if you saw a Waffle House closed in a disaster area, then you KNOW it's bad.
Apple butter is basically applesauce cooked down to a butter like consistency.
I think of it as apple suace for adults
My aunts family makes it homemade in a copper pot. If u didn’t taste apple it wasn’t made right. I don’t like it or gritts. He likes gritts he just didn’t like their gritts
So it 100% tastes like apple lol
"Nah apple butter doesn't taste like apple" 🤦♀️🤣🤣🤦♀️
@@BeboRulzI feel like people from the uk have a very raw pallete so anything that doesn’t taste exactly like the raw fruit or vegetable seems to taste extremely different to them? Just something I’ve noticed.
@@sharonwilliams8552I've heard Josh and Ollie, on other Jolly episodes, describe the typical british pallet as being "bland", so not used to "Big, Bold Flavor" as Noah would say.
Sounds like their cuisine is a bit plain and would leave most Americans wanting and disgusted from lack of taste. 😂
Noah meant THOSE grits are bad, not all grits. He’s a chef and cooks grits. They’re really good with cheese, plain grits are a bit flavorless.
A bit? Plain grits taste like nothing lol. I can't eat grits unless they have cheese and are heavily salted.
I have to put either honey or jam in mine. The first time I tried them no one told me not to eat them plain so I thought I was a bad Southerner.
I love plain grits sort of with butter but I have had sticky grits, I'm from Michigan and sometimes you get them.
@@rocksjoshuagrits aren’t made to be eaten without spices, just like you wouldn’t just eat plain cornflakes. Unless you’re weird.
Waffle House tends to serve grits a bit too watery. When you eat grits you want a thick porridge consistency.
Breakfast sausage dipped in maple syrup is delicious 😋
Def in my top 10 😊
I agree but so is bacon dipped in syrup (maple or cane).
Waffle House has locations in 25 states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.
Yup. I'm only just realizing more fully what it is (but I did know about it) because of the Jonas Brothers song, which has been living in my head.
I thought maybe a waffle house could also be any waffle restaurant with a certain vibe. But maybe not.
Yeah, this restaurant is not in New York State. I personally never even heard of people driving down to another state to go to it, which was a thing for Chik-fil-a and Crispy Creme.
First time I’ve tried it was when I was stationed in Kansas lol I was incredibly disappointed due to the hype at the time 😂
Yea, I’m in Ohio and we have one literally around the corner and my mom gets it every other week and when we r on road trips we always stop at a Waffle House
It was born in the south so it is southern through and through.
Sooooooo majority Southern with some Nor-Eastern outliers, and some Mid-West oddballs. AZ, CO, and NM are technically considered "South"-West.
So FUNNY to see Josh, Ollie and Noah drunk/tipsy after a night out. Earlier that day they had Southern Barbecue food that is on another video. Waffle House is a chain diner style restaurant where you can order breakfast type foods as well as American style lunch and dinner foods.. The price for the menu items is very cheap as well that has consistently good food.
Went there to get coffee at 5 A.M. after bar hopping in Austin, Texas since nothing else was open. Perfect drunk food. Greasy, filling, and delicious. Super friendly staff.
Noah is somehow totally wasted but completely coherent at the same time.
Noah is a true blue southerner. Laid back attitude at a restaurant and knows how to judge food accordingly.
I usually do not like grits at all, but someone made me homemade shrimp and grits, and it was so good that I couldn't stop eating it.
same thing happened to me i had some awful grits my first time... tried some awesome shrimp and grits the second
Shrimp and grits is by far the best grits recipe if you do it well.
You gotta have grits with something, shrimp is a good choice, not many people who prefer just plain grits with nothing at all added.
I'm a northerner, but I was blessed with a 10 year stint in Tennessee. We had a Waffle House. I love that place.
The beauty of dining with a chef who knows his stuff; he was flying back to Ukraine to volunteer
Nothing is better than drunk ordering. Noah is my spirit drunk animal.
Noah was so funny! I love watching your Jolly reactions. They are very entertaining.
I wonder if Jolly is amused…
Apple butter on warm yeast roll like bread is delectable
Patty Melt = Rye Bread with two hamburger Pattie’s cheese and grilled onions then cooked like a grilled cheese sandwich
Apple butter is amazing and easy to make.
Love me some Applebutter jelly on toast. Quickest breakfast food there is beside cold cereal.
I must admit that I shed a tear when the young lady compared the Waffle House sandwich with one from McDonald's...😢
Id been in the Arctic Circle for 60 days and we pulled into Portsmouth and I had my first English breakfast. The ladies were so nice and we're glad I was enjoying it so much
they are not exaggerating , I love waffle house.
Waffle House is possibly my favorite restaurant. And I love grits! But Waffle House grits are trash. Also, during hurricane season most stay open during the hurricane. On the news they will tell you how bad the hurricane is by telling you if Waffle House is closed or not. It's called The Waffle House Index.
I grew up in coastal Alabama about 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and the way we could always tell if we need to take a storm seriously or not is if we heard about Waffle House or Walmart closing 😂😂.
And by take it seriously I mean moving the hurricane party inside lol
@@StevenCryar I grew up in Pensacola. And lived in Biloxi recently. The eye of Zeta went right over me. I was maybe 300 to 400 yards from the water. But I'm like Gaynor, I love bad weather. And in Zeta I just took a nap on my sofa as it blew over me.
Yup. When we flooded in 2016 in Baton Rouge, one Waffle House managed to stay open. They worked with crewmembers from other Waffle Houses and told the Feds to go to Hell when they tried to shut them down.
Gaynor mentioned Perkins! Those were the days. Still been trying to find a honey mustard that can compare.
It's so funny because Noah was joking about the grits. He moved them so Josh would not touch them because Josh was already turned off by them. He just did it so straight faced (everyone seems to have missed it) 😅
I have watched the Olly episode and three reactions videos because I love the Noah interactions with Olly. No one has picked up on that.
I bet Noah apologized to the lady for saying so. Before they left.
Apple butter is delicious. Some applebutter is seasoned with cinnamon, but I prefer plain apple butter. Apples are cooked and reduced until it becomes a rich, concentrated , spread. Good apple butter is amazing. I like it on brioche or toast.
The Waffle House is no joke. I live in the northeast United States and we have them here. Nothing compares to them.
I got into a bad car accident in front of a Waffle House in the winter and while waiting for the cops to come, the manager brought my wife and I a couple of coffees because it was so cold. Nice people there.
That food cost very little. This WH is famous for the fight that broke out with customers and the
famous hard rock band, Kid Rock. No Waffle Houses are Nationwide but it was started in Atlanta, GA. It is a late night restaurant for after a night on the town.
I’ve only been a few times. They can get very rowdy and dangerous that time of night. They’re usually located right off of the main highway so travelers come in, and all sorts of crowds. Saturday Night Live did a whole sketch about the Waffle House this past season.
You can tell by Noah's eyes, that he is feeling no pain!
Can def tell he's ITB too 😂 We know how to get down
If grits is made right, you can become addicted to it. It needs to be cooked just right and have butter in it. I cook mine with half milk and half water. But to be honest, I'll eat just about any bowl of grits no matter how bad it is.
I didn't grow up eating grits, but I've grown to love them. It took me a while to realize that they are a base-type food, like potatoes or rice. You have to add to them to really bring out their deliciousness. I like mine savory the best: with butter, salt, pepper, and an egg over easy on top that I can break and let the yolk run into the grits; or I like to add cheese and red salsa and maybe the egg. If I'm eating sausage gravy on biscuits and have a bowl of grits to go with it, I'll add some of the gravy to the grits. It takes it to another level with the creaminess. I also like them sweet, too, with maple syrup if I'm in the mood for a pancake or waffle, but don't have the ingredients on hand to make them. Maple grits makes for a nice substitute when I'm in a sweet breakfast mood. I like my grits to be more on the thick side. Watery grits just makes the other ingredients that I add to be kind of bland. I want flavor.
I am a grits addict. I'm from the south, of course.
Approximately *2,000* Waffle House Restaurants in the United States! *Amazing*
The Waffle House Index, a measure of a storm’s severity in an area. If Waffle House closes, you need to get out of the area immediately!!! And their employees are prepared to take you out with a spatula and a fry basket 😂😂😂
I love grits, they are made from ground up hominy until they are the consistency of sand (thus the name grits). They are what I call a "food canvas," meaning you add the "color" to suit you. A big knob of butter and crushed red pepper flakes, or some diced jalapeno peppers, maybe hot giardiniera, crumbled crispy bacon, or even some red-eye gravy (ham drippings mixed with strong black coffee; sounds weird, tastes YUMMM), this Yankee-boy loves grits with breakfast! Love your channel!
As a New Yorker I put sugar and butter on my grits, when I lived down in South Carolina they thought I was crazy lol its soooo good. I miss Waffle House SO much. 3 am grits with pecan waffles. I want that to be my last meal lol loved the video
I cook apple butter down in my slow cooker and lighten the cinnamon because sometimes I like to eat it with a few drops of balsamic vinegar. Yum.
Grits made straight from the box, with their recipe, seem terrific!
I'm American and from the South. Waffle house grits are always nasty and clumpy. The best come from your own kitchen in your own pot because they are so versatile. Some people like them with cheese, salt, sugar, or milk to make them creamy. Also, tastes good with a side of fried fish.
Gotta have the grits with cheese and sugar
Bama Apple Butter was my absolute favorite as a kid in the 70s.....that was on my toast and that was in my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Grits vary widely from bland to awesome, depending on how they are prepared. Waffle House started in Atlanta, Georgia but have spread all over the south, midwest and parts of the southwest region. Really it is mostly the Pacific states and the extreme northeast that doesn't have it.
He didn't mean he doesn't like grits. He's saying he doesn't like those grits. It depends on who's preparing them.
Waffle House is truly a southeastern thing, though they have began to branch out a little lately. The food is always the same, and always good. In the metro ATL, you’ll find them at what seems like every other highway exit. But there are plenty that are not traveler based. From my house, I can get to 7 within 15-20 minutes. And only 1 is on the interstate. I played in bar bands for years, and WH was the after party. After setting up, playing for 4 hours, and packing up, we usually rolled in around 3:30-4:00am. There were many times driving home as the sun came up with a full tummy ready to crash.
There are Waffle Houses in literally half the states in the US
@@ryanlaymon2329 You just googled that. lol Waffle House is mostly in the south and only reaches Arizona. I grew up in California and never heard of Waffle House til the Shaq Comedy Central Roast. lol Same with Chic Filet until 10 yrs ago, another southern restaurant.
On vacation my mom and I ate at Waffle House a few times, the first time we were in a restaurant when some R&B singer was there, the whole staff recognized her, apparently she was very famous, we had no idea who she was.
Noah shouldn't have told him it was syrup, he should have just let him poor it in a cup and see his reaction when he drank straight maple syrup.
Not sure why Gaynor doesn't think Apple Butter tastes like apple. It's taste is a more flavorful apple sauce. It's not watery like apple sauce, delicious spread on bread.
Noah wansbeing facetious about the grits. He didn't want them tontrybthe grits cuz he wanted them all to himself. 🤣
I grew up with so many Noahs, love that guy
My dad was a canner and would make jams, jellies and apple and plum butter from the produce of our orchard. He would give them to us at Christmas. I miss those days.
In Missouri we have a whole apple butter making days festival 😂
He didn't say grits are horrible. He said those grits were horrible. Cheap insta grits is what Waffle House is serving.
the thing about Waffle House is you can get an all star for literally dirt CHEAP
all i ate in college
grits with butter, salt, pepper, and crumbled sausage is my absolute favorite thing on earth ❤ waffle house is pretty good for breakfast but I prefer eating at places that don't taste like I could have cooked it myself at home lol
Cheese steak melt is steak and it's AMAZING . Went the night of my wedding and we've been every year since 7 years this year
5:49 she said it exactly. It’s a grilled cheese with a burger or two in it. I like mine with bacon. It’s called a patty melt in most places. At least I’m pretty sure it’s a patty melt, like you said it could be sausage.
12:04 no… he said THOSE grits were bad. More than likely they’re the instant grits. Those suck.
apple butter isn't just a southern thing its a thing in any region apples r grown. Johnny apple seed (real person BTW) planted all his seeds in the midwest. countless apple butter festivals nation wide
This particular Waffle House is my former local Waffle House. It's where my husband got my post labor meal and it was wonderful!
I love Waffle House. It's one of the last few restaurant chains in America that still feels like a classic American diner. You can have great conversations with strangers in the late hours at the Waffle House.
he didn't say Grits were terrible. he said that *_THOSE_* Grits were terrible.
Apple butter is wonderful--on toast with butter, on biscuits (not cookies!)--there should be no sugar in it other than from the apples--ingredients should be apple cider and apples (and cinnamon, nutmeg for some). It is NOT, contrary to what the guy in video said, a Southern thing--it is absolutely a Northern thing as we have (and the Northwest) the apple orchards and originated apple butter--it originated in the US in Pennsylvania Dutch population (who brought it from Europe). Moreover, no self-respecting Northerner would have apple butter from the little container they were given--a sure sign that it has sugar added and the wrong ingredients.
Im lucky to be from the midwest becsuse we have the best apple butter. I wake up early every year to go to the farmer's market to get fresh apple butter.
The Rapper Jelly Roll was sent a cease and desist from Waffle House for naming his album "Whiskey, Weed, and Waffle House" and had to re-release it to "Whiskey, Weed and Women" because they didn't want to be related to the artist. Great album if you like country rap.
Yes WH is a southern thing, and not all grits are created equal, they were instant grit I’m sure and probably dry, you can put anything on grits from cheese with salt and pepper too brown sugar and honey like a porridge
I think Noah is on the Ark..😂
If you ever see a Waffle House closed, it means that a tornado or hurricane is coming. Otherwise, they NEVER close.
Apple butter is really good on just bread or toast and you make it into a sandwich
Apple butter should taste very strongly of apple since proper ingredients are apples and apple cider. Gaynor probably did not have proper apple butter. It should be heavily apple taste, but also sweet cider taste with cinnamon. It is used the same way you would use jams. And he said THESE grits are horrible--they probably used a mix of some kind which is no good, and not enough butter. They are best with other things, I believe.
plenty of americans dont like grits. i hate them. people always insist that you need to load them with butter or cheese or salt, as if that will stop the vomit texture.
their reaction to cheesy scrambled eggs is funny to me because whenever i had them as a kid, it would have been weirder if they didnt have cheese
Sometimes late at night crime goes down at Waffle House. Lots of fights, occasionally getting robbed etc. I love it though and still go.
Waffle House, has the best customer vs employee fights, and the customer always throws hands first. That would be a great compilation to look for 😂 also, I think Theo Von has a Waffle House joke in his stand up
I'm from the south. I can't stand grits, tried them at a bunch of places and they are always horrible. I stick to the hashbrowns. Nothing better than getting hammered and eating waffle house. It's also entertaining. I've seen fights, waiters cussing each other out. The cook smoking a blunt outside. Two years ago this dumb guy was revving his truck in the parking lot like a idiot and it caught fire. Fun times 🤣🤣
No, Noah did not say grits are horrible. he was saying those particular grits were terrible. Grits are not all created equal. Not everyone makes good grits. It was probably the cook who messed them up. I've heard quite a few people say they have very good grits. Even Brits. lol.
...ps love you guys and just know this those U.S 24/7 establishments also has the best salads😋❤
I don't want to make her self conscious of it, but I feel like it's a good video if it can make Sophie go, "HMMmmm!" or "Oooooh." Like it's a quirk and it's almost like a feature of this channel. If a video gets a "Sophie Ooooh" it's a good video. I'm adding it to my OBD Bingo card. It's right up there with mention of the OBD Sports channel and Daz mentioning he loves bleu cheese with his buffalo wings that are only covered in Franks Red Hot sauce.
I have never liked grits either. My sister says it's because I never had them cooked properly :)
Chickens have chalets. Apple butter looks like poo but is the best and it has a separate flavor from apple like apple sauce . It works on everything literally 👍
He said THOSE grits were not up his standards. That can happen if they are too dry or gummy.
Omg Apple butter is so good.
One of my fav Jolly episodes. Apple butter is awesome! I put up jars of it in fall during apple season. Great with pork too. Grits need to be prepared in a particular way, actually. Can eat them savory or sweet. Not a fan of the instant version. FYI, Noah is in Ukraine cooking with World Kitchen. Waffle House has a really nice diner selection of food. If you get the chance, stop there.
I love Waffle House. I go there almost every Sunday. Apple butter is great too.
It's a burger with bread. To me looks like the toasted the bread on a pan with butter
The burger on toast is a patty melt..
Noah is a cool guy and funny ❤😂
I live in Kansas and have a Waffle House within walking distance. Love Waffle House but I rarely ever eat there. When I visit my family in Georgia, I always go to Waffle House. I HAVE TO. It. Just. Hits. Different. In the South.
Also, am I the only person who can't not notice the cartoonishly exaggerated reactions on these guy's faces after every bite of every food they try? I think about this a lot. Hopefully I am not alone on this but I do realize I am the one with the problem here not them
You're not the only one! I think it's just part of their comedic style though.
Waffle House has the best waffles ever! Apple Butter is delicious, I'm not southern but I love grits and I don't put cheese on them, I put butter and alittle sugar. Some people will disagree with me and that's okay.
I don't like grits either....but Waffle House is the bomb....so good!!
burgers have castles ;white castle. grits dont taste bad but all grits taste the same they have no flavor on their owne you gotta add something
He likes grits but probably not the ones from Waffle House.
Waffle House is so good at night, it is usually empty in the morning
As a west coast American, I’ve never had grits.
grits. add butter and sugar. mix. enjoy
Breakfast sausage on toast
Lmfao! Drunk on something good!!! We make the best hangover food. That is what Americans are famous for.
And pizza, maybe Philly steak n cheese. The food won’t stop 🤣✌️
Have hit Waffle House many times after a night out. The grits are good but I like a egg on top.. salt/pepper and Tabasco sauce. We make our own apple butter and it doesn't last long. Apple butter is great on any pork dish in my opinion.
Apple butter is delicious
She was joking when she called it an appetizer.
Waffle house grits are always a struggle anyhow. Really any restaurant that isnt making it as a brunch or dinner dish.
Salt & butter is all I need for grits… People talking about cheese & whatever else, I’m suspending your southerner card..🤨
P.S. I prefer IHOP oooooonly because my favorite thing is pancakes. I rate both place above Denny's though lol
I like how the entire segment about him not liking grits went right over their heads... I thought Brits were supposed to be the kings of sarcasm...
Waffle House fully loaded hash browns is the best.
Yes waffle House is mostly in the southeast United States although it has expanded somewhat in the last decade or so.
I go to waffle House at least once a week for dinner mostly. I like breakfast food anytime of the day but they also have a good burger there and some people like their steaks cooked on the grill.
I order grits at the waffle house but I have had to send them back. It depends on who's cooking at that time and how long the grits have been sitting in the pot. They are Best when fresh. I sometimes ask how long have those grits been sitting there before I order them. They don't mind you asking. That's one thing I like about the waffle House, you can sit up by the counter and watch them cook. The cooks and the servers will talk to you too.
I will also add to the grits dunwell are the best thing ever. I like my grits to be a little soft and not too runny but a little thick. It takes lots of practice but once you get it s worth the trouble.
There's also a debate about how you eat grits. You don't eat them plain. Most true southerners say sugar in the grits is not of God lol.As a kid I liked sugar and butter. Now I like butter salt pepper cheese and crumbled up crunchy bacon in them. 😊
I think apple butter is an acquired taste-I’m not real fond of it and much prefer apple jelly. I’m also not a huge fan of grits but, to be fair, it’s close enough to polenta which the southern US shares with the nation of Italy so that’s a lot of people who like it.
