12:15 AM Portland Oregon - I saw Pat Travers in the old Portland Paramont theater back in 1975 for $2 dollars a ticket, one of the “Catch a🤩rising star” concert series back then put on by KGON Radio station here in puddle city. I was a freshman in high school and it was my second concert ever… Pat Travers had just put out the album “Putting it straight” - I’ll never forget him strutting out on stage and flicking his freshly lit cigarette off to the side of the stage and launching into the song “Life in London”… 🎉Great live sound and was an excellent performance. So glad to see that he is still kicking ass and is better than ever… Come on back to Portland man! I suspect they would have to charge more than two dollars these days… Ha!😵💫

You are one lucky man..Was is around 91 or.92?. Pat came to Arlington TX, in Jan 92 and had a ice storm that nite, paralyzing the city..I lived 2 blocks away and seen him play for 50 people. I was 10 feet away. He blew the roof off, like he was playing for 50,000..Played Crash and burn on Hammond. Snorting whiskey ripped, Boom boom had a 30 minute solo. EPIC..Like Beck, Trower, Pat is A Legend. .
@@tednugentlives He had a young guy playing drums - can't remember his name - I think the last name was Neal. I know he had his name printed on the bass drums. Of course, Mars was on bass, and Jerry Riggs was on the other guitar. The date we played with him was 6/14/92, just a few months after you saw him. Not the largest crowd at our show either, but as you said - Pat was the consummate professional & played like it was a sold-out arena. It was also fun to hang out with them after the show. I have a picture of Pat and me backstage arm in arm, and I'll cherish it forever.
I was SO fortunate to get to open for him and Foghat on one occasion. What an awesome guy, my hold band were huge fans of his, so when he opened the dressing room door backstage and invited us in for a beer, words can scarcely describe how over the moon we were! He was very humble, funny, just cool as hell. It’s sad how Pat still has to tour so much. Like many musicians, bad decisions, bad management have not been kind to him. Great video! Too bad so many players now don’t know much about him! I’m pretty sure the bassist he has here is Jaco Pastorius’ nephew. Great band, but Pat has always hired the best players he could get. Amazing to see Pat play Crash and Burn on guitar, as on the album he played synth. Just more PT magic.
I saw Pat Travers live 2x when he was touring with Blackmore’s Rainbow in the 70’s. First was the Chicago gig then they went to Madison, WI where my brother was going to school so we followed them to Madison picked up my brother and went to the gig which was general admission with standing on the main floor. Imagine our surprise when we realized that we were first in line and when the doors opened we ran to stage left where Blackmore always played so we got to see Travers and Blackmore close up and personal for the second time in 3 days. Those were the days
Pat's choices for effects, amps, general guitar sound, is perfect for my ear (Not to mention his playing) The Band is so good too. This is ROCK....Wish I could have been there to see it.

Dude I never got to see Rush live but what that has to do with this is Tommy Aldridge. Pat Travers Band was the tightest band that I ever saw and that was the lineup your talking about with Mr. Pat Thrall and Mr. Aldridge on drums. man Tommy was the greatest drummer I've ever seen and the band was the tightest band I've ever seen. They were just so together. A few years later I read a guitarist forum interview like a round table of 5 or 6 guitarists talking in- cluding Thrall and V. Campbell, Maniketi, and Thrall seemed really down to earth. Did not paint a pretty picture about his former boss. I've said it before and I'm saying it again now, that is usually with musicians and guitarists in particular you get one or two things you get a bunch of really great guys or every once in a while you come across this really egotistical a****** jerk you know and well hi Rodger Waters... Or are ya goin' by Pink these days? L.L. P.S. oh, hey Pink, um y do ya suppose nothing you ever did on your own solo stuff could "eclipse" "Learning To Fly"? Huh jackass, answer me that? @@jerrywoods4066 well you see, Jerry, Sir, what I was actually saying is more like this: I too have seen lots of bands including some you mentioned and many others you didn't. What I didn't say was that any band was better than another I said Mr. Aldridge was the best drummer I ever had the privilege to see and I saw him with the TIGHTEST band I ever saw. I'm guessing this Pat Travers vid came through my algorithm because I actually listened to Stevie after I played it last night on the guitar myself and well, as a musician tightness is something you appreciate. Now Mr. Aldridge had a long or has had Tommy's still going he's had a long and illustrious career playing with Black Oak Arkansas, White Snake, many many bands you know this dude has been drummer for in the studio and on the road. I am guessing that if you ask Mr. Aldridge he would tell you the exact same thing that I did. That the TIGHTEST band that he ever played with was THE PAT TRAVERS BAND. I DON'T KNOW THAT HE WOULD TELL YOU THAT THEY WERE THE BEST BAND THAT HE EVER PLAYED WITH. Again, as a musician myself I know a little bit about what it takes to be what I consider an actual band in the first place and well you know as far as what I think when I think of bands and and I'm trying to go to a rating system of saying this man is the best band ever this man is number two this is number three I get into some you know real debatable things and you know I think a lot of people would there's like a kind of a big four that automatically come to mind those would be the Beatles the stones Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin as kind of a you know a quadruple play right away and you know what none of those bands would be number one or two because Queen and Rush would tie for those because they were real bands that could stay together as a band like a band of Brothers like you remember the TV series Band of Brothers these dudes had each other's backs they they loved each other they would do anything for each other they wouldn't go on without each other and that's a band by God. I'm sorry I got a little passionate there on my microphone and so I'm going to have to go back and see what that even says. In-fighting, back biting, egotistical egomaniacal actions, greed aren't pretty things. To me, o' band is. You mentioned Triumph. Immediately Rick Emmit comes to mind. Whatta guitarist, seems like he'd be a stellar individual. What an absolute shame that triumph could not be a band that functions like a well-oiled machine and be the kind of guys to each other that Rush was. So you see what I'm saying Jerry is that you know it's a really subjective thing to try to go right and music because music is such a wonderful thing and it can be such a such a force in the world man and people are passionate about it. Especially me. As you can imagine well the two bands in my life that I never did get to see that I really really wish I would have gotten to see live or what I consider the two best bands ever to have existed because they were real bands. Yeah Queen and Rush and bear in mind sir that I never seen any of the other bands that I've mentioned or the who or a host of others I've seen a lot of bands I've seen Aerosmith Van Halen blah blah blah. Guess who THE TIGHTEST was. Mr. Aldridge might also tell you that Pat Travers is a big jackass because that's what Pat Thrall said about him okay. I only know that when he and Pat Thrall played those dual leads together with Tommy back there and Mars come on man they were they were the tightest band that I have ever seen play live they were great that doesn't mean they were the best band in the world. In my opinion well I would love to have been in a band I played with guys we played in the public you know but I don't really think I was ever in a band and I don't know it's like to me I should have been able to be in a band I I think I deserve to be able to still cuz I think I got the heart for nothing I got the well just never mind I can't I can't do this I'm crying now. Pat remains one of my all-time favourite players. Great singer, songwriter and one the all time classic Rock guitarists ever and so underated it's crazy. Blessed to have listened to him for decades.
Got to see him year s ago in Portland Or . . One of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. Big fans blow n all the hair to rhythmic guitar inflection sound. Everything man ! Everything totally in pocket
I saw him open for Rush in 77'. Had never heard of him, I was floored. Saw him about 6 times more over the years. I videotaped a lot of outdoor shows in the early 2000's, got harrassed by a few bands managers, never by Pat's. Cool guy for sure.

I opened the doors for Pat in Corpus in 2015. He stood next to me commenting as we watched "Flaunt", which was on after Molly Hatchett. Specifics will remain private, but entertaining. His bassist at that time, Rodney O'Quinn (now with Foghat) caught us at the Ice House at our pre-arena warm-up. He was commenting about the thrill of walking in while we were playing Ted's "Stranglehold" and I was running a phaser and a chorus at the same time for heavy twist. It was a fun day, even though I personally set up and tore down 2400 watts of Arena Rig 2x in one afternoon. Was as good as Claire Bors. running me through a Pre-Amp when I opened for Petra back in the 80's.
I saw Pat at Cream City Music in Brookfield, Wisconsin last summer. He was playing in Milwaukee, and he'd left his pedal board at home. I'd seen him in Madison in 1982 and Milwaukee in 80 or so. He inspired me as a young player in the late 70s. The young guy behind the counter had no idea who he was talking to. He's still one of my favorites.
First saw him live at the Crazy Horse Saloon outside Killeen Tx in 1977 I think when I was at Ft Hood. Mars Cowling on bass, and Pat with the red Melody Maker. Went out and found a 65 Melody for $100 bucks. Still play it. He’s quality. The real deal guitarist and great vocals.
July of 1980 Pat Travers Band played in Bloomington, Minnesota. I was playing in a local club touring band in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Our band was scheduled to open for PT. Unfortunately we had a conflict with the club we also were contracted to perform at on the same night. The club wouldn't let us out of the contract, so we missed out on a really great opportunity! Just before our third set, our manager walked in the club with Mars Cowling and Tommy Aldridge following close behind! We ended up having a great night, as both guys sat in and jammed with us the final set. Great fun and great guys/musicians!!
I saw Pat Travers back in the '80s in a little tiny Club in San Francisco called the stone I bet it only held 400 people I was so close to him I could have kissed his boot anyway it was a great show a long time ago Pat Travers Still rocking still snorting whiskey and drinking cocaine baby
@@arthurmurfitt7698 yep, he WAS asking the sound guy to make his guitar louder - meaning that it was going through the P.A., too. Sounds like ol' Pat's got a little hearing loss perhaps?
That first song is absolutely amazing. The chord progression is so unique. I had a rig with this exact tone. It inspired me so that I played so much I got nerve damage in my fretting hand.
The first time I saw Rush. Pat Travers was a surprise opener for the concert. He pretty much blew our minds. Went out and bought Puttin' it Straight the next week. Great player with great tone. Was trying to figure out what model guitar he's using here. Oh by the way, Rush was awesome as always. Great night.
I saw him with Rush in 1978! Travers for many stole the show! Awesome show, it was the Go For What You Know band with Pat Thrall,Mars Cowling, Tommy Aldridge. What a singular, phenomenal band!
I first saw Pat Travers supporting the Groundhogs at Chatham Central Hall back in 1975. It was the first ever rock gig I ever attended. His guitar tone was just incredible, he was playing a Telecaster custom, I think it was, or maybe a deluxe, anyway, it was like a wall of concrete falling on you. I saw countless bands afterwards including Van Halen, Sabbath, Nugent, Maiden, Saxon, but nothing ever measured up to Pat's tone and delivery.
This dude was allways
Underated.

Underrated? He didn't rate at all. Lol. Headliner in Moline and Shreveport

Was lucky enough to see Pat Travers band live in some big venues... always rocked!
Boom Boom💥out goes the lights! 🤘😎🤘
I saw him open for Rush in 77'. Had never heard of him, I was floored. Saw him about 6 times more over the years. I videotaped a lot of outdoor shows in the early 2000's, got harrassed by a few bands managers, never by Pat's. Cool guy for sure.
@@billwhite2989 I saw him open for Rush as well, the Mighty Forum in Los Angeles, California...🤘💥🤘
My first concert 1979 at the old Chicago Amphitheater he opened up for Foghat.
life in London..my favorite...he rocks on..
It’s so good to see ol’ Pat and he seems like he’s really enjoying that PRS too!
Great album 👌 I got it here somewhere still. I seen Pat in Ventura. Watching him play Snorting Whiskey sober just cracked me up! I need an occasional beer and line to get normal sometimes. Born under a very bad sign!!🤠✌🤞
Thank You Pat...hafta come back to dose the visceral power chord screamin lead message juice time and again.
Up close and personal. Awesome. And the sound is great for a camera
P.S.,,,,,,,saw pat & band,,,open for Areosmith,,,1981..........Denver,CO.......great show,,,areosmith, unfortunately were to wasted to play a song from start to end!!😯😯notsorry,,,,,,,............Pat,was incredible,,,,at the end of the show,,he threw his guitar up higher than anybody I have EVER seen, and caught it!!!......other friends I talked to said the same,he was great, still is today......tnx,,,Mr.Travers,,,for a lifetime of fun music.......pat,land o' lakes,wi.
Been a unique heavy handed player with crunch and tone for both miles and yrs. Rock on Pat. 🤘😎
The best in the world at what he does!
Lol
Thank you very much for posting
I saw Pat at Cream City Music in Brookfield, Wisconsin last summer. He was playing in Milwaukee, and he'd left his pedal board at home. I'd seen him in Madison in 1982 and Milwaukee in 80 or so. He inspired me as a young player in the late 70s. The young guy behind the counter had no idea who he was talking to. He's still one of my favorites.
I opened for him 2010 Rothbury Mi Great experience and very cool 😎 guy
Back again, imho, this is Pat's best performance of Crash on YT.
Effortless. Pat was always a rocker at the top of his game. Good stuff!👍🎸🇺🇸❤️
I saw pat in a high school auditorium in 1977or 8...excellent player...in Texas great times.
Saw him in the early 80s. Great show.
Pat Travers is a guitar playing expert.
I saw him In 1980 something. In A large concert arena. But he was also playing smaller venues off and on. Great tone and resonance!
I have the original CD of this song and still listen to it often. It is a shame the vocal recording is badly recorded because Pat has a great voice.
no, it's a shame his guitar is louder than anything there. The sound guy is riding the volume to make it listenable
@@b.scottfarthingsworth nope, The person recording is right in front of his amp, his vocals are going out the PA on the sides
@@arthurmurfitt7698 yep, he WAS asking the sound guy to make his guitar louder - meaning that it was going through the P.A., too. Sounds like ol' Pat's got a little hearing loss perhaps?
Still sounding great!
Damn he still sounds great, I didn't even know he was still with us. ⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥
Life in London one of my favs..
I love the front and back album art on his 'Putting it straight' album.
He was always underated. Glad to see he is still at it.
his tone out of this PRS makes me want to set fire to my gear and take up the harmonica! 8-D
🤣👍
Damn, Pat can still tear it up on guitar
Saw Pat Travers at a free concert in Grant's Pass , Oregon. He signed my T-shirt.
That first song is absolutely amazing. The chord progression is so unique. I had a rig with this exact tone. It inspired me so that I played so much I got nerve damage in my fretting hand.
I was hoping for out go the lights but I was not disappointed after listening to this! Keep Rockin
I love Pat. Seen him live from the late 70s on and he always kills it.
Saw him when he was backing Nuge.
Great guitarist who tore up the 70’s and still going!
Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 Singlecut
@@riffblackout1521 thanks for the info. I think he was using a strat when I saw him in 1978. A while ago though.
I saw him with Rush in 1978! Travers for many stole the show! Awesome show, it was the Go For What You Know band with Pat Thrall,Mars Cowling, Tommy Aldridge. What a singular, phenomenal band!
Yeah, it was January 1978 in Madison WI.
Rush opener was the first time I saw Pat too - VERY good show!
Since the 70's, baby!!
As good as anyone I've ever heard sad he didn't get the recognition ,be we know .
One of my GUITARHEROES😄🤘🤘🤘
Seen him in Dallas Ritz back in the 80s . Fun af
Saw him in Arlington in 92 at a bar called the Rodeo. Was an old skating rink at the Forum Mall. Was a killer show.
Agreed! Killer tone!! I hope to catch a show. 💚🎸
My favorite version.
Pats always been a bad man , I dig his picking style. He's truly a one of a kind artist
Incredible Pat
Pat has always sounded great no matter what rig he used.
Man, that felt GOOD!!😁😎
Bona fide tone…pure Travers…outstanding AF
A true Monster!!! Top 5 of "Most underrated "... Seen him many times, as well as backing him up a couple times...an awesome dude as well!!!
Seen him in KC with Kenny Wayne Sheppard around six-seven years ago. Great show.
Awesome guitar player, he should be world famous!
Pat is a Badass. Always has been.
I still have my original copy of the ‘Crash and Burn’ album on 8-track…👴🏼
Someone had a PT cocaine mirror on Ebay. Just as rare.
I loved Rock and Roll Susie.
Saw P.T. at a small park in Cocoa Village a couple years ago. I'd he was as good as ever but I don’t remember him sounding better. Legend...
my guitar hero since his first album ...
Still has that voice and those chops!
Florida makes some of the greatest guitarist
Oh wow! I didn't know. This is good stuff. Thanks!
Snorting Whiskey, opening riff, Possibly best ever.Rip and roar.
in the 70's - this would have been impressive.
I had to buy his flanger back in the day. The A/DA Flanger.
I still have a 45 record from the late 70's of Pat Travers doing a great version of Bob Marley's "Is this Love ? "..
