      Ed I just want to make you aware of the ethics of a vegan diet. Just a which question would you say that the life of one species of animal is more important than another? Dont bother answering that question because I already know that question. I dont know if u are aware of this but there are many small species of rodents that live in crops. The crops offer them food, shelter and protecting for predators. However there is one that they are unable to escape, the harvesters. A combine will destroy there nests, there food source and there life. In my opinion I feel completely fine with this because foxes and crows will eat the remains. Also there many more mice killed a year during harvest time than cattle a year. If you understand this but choose to ignore this then I am going to call you out for being specieist. Dont bother calling me out for the same as I believe its the circle of life however if I use you logic of thinking I hope you are disgusted with urself.
      Best wishes
      James
      P.S I dont give a shit if ur a vegan its just you force it upon people without even thinking about your own actions.

      @Zapp Brannigan "Who cares no one takes vegans seriously anyways"
      Yet, Ed, Joey Carbstrong, James Aspey and Gary Yourofsky have on numerous occations been invited to debates, discussions and shows in both radio and TV to put the vegan message forward, and veganism is indeed growing, and even meat companies has started to produce plant based alternatives. And the meat industry in the EU is so threatened by veganism that their lobby groups are trying to ban certain aspects of vegan marketing strategies.
      Veganism is indeed being taken really seriously.

      @abortion_lasagna malnutrition. People can't digest anything from plants except a little of the sugar and starch. That's why your vegan diet is dependent on supplements and supplements is the worst way to get any form of nutrition.

    • @wolfpackpete6408
      @wolfpackpete6408 4 роки тому +1

      @abortion_lasagna so tigers and wolves, etc should eat plants too?

    • @wolfpackpete6408
      @wolfpackpete6408 4 роки тому +1

      @abortion_lasagna omg. It's nothing to do with conscious. It's bio available nutrition. How are your b12 supplements made if it doesn't exist in the first place?
      Herbivores convert the nutrients from plants because they have the stomach bacteria for that purpose.
      People are obligate hyper carnivores meaning we require the nutrition animals have converted from plants and stored in their bodies for carnivores.
      Veterinary practices have spoken out stringly advising against feeding cats and dogs a plant based diet. Wolves are obligate hyper carnivores aswell. Believe it or not people have a very similar digestive track to wolves, the biggest difference is our appendix (I was surprised to discover that too).
      Morals are one thing. People poisoning and malnourishing themselves because they can't accept they're carnivores is mental illness.

    • @wolfpackpete6408
      @wolfpackpete6408 4 роки тому

      @abortion_lasagna there's a big difference between surviving and thriving. You think the entire population should inject themselves with supplements?
      Farms don't inject b12 into animals. Animals evolved for eating plants get everything they need from those plants. People are not evolved to eat plants so we get virtually nothing from them. Human nutrition comes from the flesh and fat of animals.

Aside from the long-standing debate over whether humans are natural herbivores or true omnivores, if, for the sake of argument, we accept the widely-held view that humans are omnivores, this still does not change the fact that we can easily get all of our nutrients from a plant-based diet. And most of us have access to a wide range of delicious plant-based foods. Vitamin B12, the only nutrient vegans need to be vigilant about supplementing, is inexpensive and is also recommended in supplement form for non-vegans, who are equally prone to deficiencies. More on vegans and B12 here.
      In discussions, the statement “humans are omnivores” is often used to suggest that eating animals- more specifically, breeding and raising billions of animals for slaughter- is somehow morally neutral. But we can easily see why this betrays our ethics by looking at the following hypothetical scenario. Imagine applying this line of reasoning to some other human behavior we want to justify. For example, using this line of reasoning, a man defends killing his wife on the basis that “humans are natural murderers,” arguing that we have a natural capacity for, and a long history of, murdering. But of course we would never justify such violent acts as murder, rape or torture as morally acceptable simply because these behaviors can be said to come naturally to us. And, yet, all of these violent practices are systematically carried out against other animals to turn them into food products for our enjoyment.
      So what does it actually meant to be an omnivore?
      The statement “humans are omnivores” is all too often used as a smoke screen to blur the important distinctions between omnivores and carnivores, suggesting that our killing and eating of animals is as natural and necessaery as it is for, say, lions and tigers and other obligate carnivores who eat other animals for reasons of survival. But being an omnivore simply means that we are capable of obtaining nutrients from both plant and animal matter, not that we must eat animals. And yet the popular characterization of omnivorism asserts that a sensible omnivore eats at least some meat, dairy or eggs on a regular basis as part of balanced, everything-in-moderation diet. But in fact being a human omnivore in contemporary times simply means we have the luxury of choosing from plant-based foods and animal-based foods. And since all the nutrients we need can be obtained from plant foods, there is no justification for the pointless violence and suffering that underpin eating animal foods, particularly when we could so easily avoid it.
      Our closest primate relatives, chimpanzees, are also considered omnivores. Yet despite the fact that chimpanzees have huge, pointed canine teeth, the flesh of other animals is only a marginal part of their diet. Dale Peterson, who has studied chimps extensively in their natural habitat, explained to us in an interview that chimps, if given the opportunity to satisfy their hunger with exclusively plant-based sources, might very well ponder the morality of eating other animals. But even if they didn’t, the energy expended to kill animals for food is far greater than that used in eating plants, which may partially explain why other animals are but a small part of the chimps’ diet.
      Sorting through nutritional myths
      Unlike biological carnivores, we will not get sick or die from malnutrition if we stop eating dairy, eggs and flesh products. On the other hand, if we stop eating plant foods, we will likely become malnourished. On both a physical and psychological level, humans can thrive on a plant-based diet. Even many famous athletes perform at their peak on plant-based diets. And replacing animal foods with plant foods does not mean we are going against our biology, which is a popular view today. While statistics on the size of the global vegan population are sparse, there are estimated to be millions of vegans in the U.S. alone, and there is ample evidence of healthy populations of people all over the world who traditionally consume little to no animal products. The leading health authorities in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia all confirm that well-planned vegan diets are a safe, healthy and viable option for all age groups.

    I’m a holistic nutritionist: MEAT IS NOT HEALTHY - especially w/the way the animals are raised. There is a reason for the saying “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, we’d all be vegan. It’s disgustingly unsanitary: animals LIVE in their own filth their whole - short lives. Most get sick/infections so they’re ALL given antibiotics. ALL OF THEM except organic. So if you’re eating non-organic meat you are ingesting antibiotics every time you eat it. Then, when you really need the antibiotics, like for pneumonia or an ear infection or another bacterial infection you will be antibiotic resistant. Some of the animals die before they’re slaughtered, & are just left there w/the other animals - it’s horrifying! Right now, in 2019, The rate of cancer is at epidemic proportions. One out of two men and one out of three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Cancer is caused by two things nutritional deficiency & toxicity. I lost 2 friends to heart attacks (in their 40’s) in 2016 & 2017, one to pneumonia in 2015 (he was 45 - antibiotic resistant) & my brother to cancer last year 😢 My friends mom died in her mid 50’s of an ear infection - antibiotic resistant. Another friend almost died of an ear infection - antibiotic resistant. ALL were heavy meat eaters. I went Whole Food Plant based 4 years ago next month - i got down to my high school weight at 47, my doctor said my blood work looks like I’m in my early 20’s & I haven’t been sick since. I have more energy than friends in their late 30’s! We don’t need meat. Try it for 30 days - you will not believe the difference in how you feel. There are DELICIOUS vegan burgers, vegan meatballs, vegan cheese (the brand “So delicious” Mozzarella or cheddar - yummy!) - vegan anything! Because if I was out and about shopping or going on day trips, vegan food was really difficult to find around here (Midwest). I literally ate French fries or potato chips in my quest to stay vegan. I tried vegan mock meats. Basically, I ate vegan junk food. Not all the time, but apparently it was enough to make my health worse than when I was a meat eater. It definitely felt to me that the conversation was being pushed in favour of the farmer :/ I think as well people interpret Ed’s passion sometimes as aggression, sadly

    Love this interview. You did great Ed. What I think is a shame is that you don't get more time and that the moderator stopped you when you were about to make some other important points. I only you could get a farmer to talk to you one on one for a longer amount of time which is clearly needed. Hopefully this will come along with your podcast as you said when you announced its comeback.

    Anyone else here think the farmer is absolutely right? The anti-vegan campaigns are growing at such a higher rate than the veganism campaigns are. From first hand experience and statistics showed by the national constitute of dietry health

    I'm always admiring how calm and to the point you are no matter how you're talked to. Myself for example would so easily have answered the condescending "young man" (In other words: "I know more than you because I've lived longer") with "Well actually, old man,.." or something like that.

    sheep farmer who would be directly affected if red meat consumption stopped: "red meat is healthy"
    literal scientists for the World Health Organization, Harvard School of Public Health, and many Oxford studies: "red meat consumption is associated with an increased risk of total, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality."
    who are you going to trust? actual scientists who've made peer reviewed studies( peer reviewed means it is repeatable with the same outcome), or someone that is biased and would lose their job if red meat consumption stopped?

      Lynn Wiltshire I lived in a property on a farm with sheep and cows for just under a year. I also witnessed the appalling way the animals were treated. At the time I was not vegan or vegetarian, but it would be clear to anyone that that is not how any animal should be treated. I moved and made the transition to vegetarian and now I’ve been vegan for over a year. I think everyone who consumes animal products should have to witness the abuse the animals endure everyday, and I think the majority would change their views. It’s the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ attitude that is a big problem

    • @pend0825
      @pend0825 4 роки тому

      Ur right it's not, I think instead we should devolve and go back to ripping animals apart and using are canine teeth to chomp their necks whilst other animals chow down onto the living animal while blood is spewing everywhere similarly to how tigers and lions do every day??? Or we can let the sheep play in the fields eat unlimited grass and hay and drink unlimited water instead of struggling to find any in the wild whilst being hunted down by a pack of wolves

    Great debate. I think the farmer felt quite conflicted having to defend his side for economic purposes. He did not want to loose his job or friends in the industry. I imagine he’ll go back home and start having reflective conversations with other farmers about how they can diversify into farming plants 🌱next

    Humanity is exhausting.
    There are very few animal liberators.
    The sad reality:
    Humans are uninterested in changing the tortured upbringing and brutal death of animals bred for consumption.
    The majority just doesn't give a damn.
    They might care enough to change if the payoff was greater than what they currently receive-- and NOT until then.
    Humanity blows! I'm sadly a human being--- and I KNOW there is nothing special about being human-- we are so damn self-centered!
