So do I need a serger and a sewing machine also ? Why don’t you only use the Serger?
Sergers can't do certain functions that a regular sewing machine can. So in this tutorial I use a straight stitch, which can't be done on a serger. For this reason it's preferred to have both, but if you had to choose one then I'd say a regular sewing machine should be purchased first! -Katie

You will have a more professional and clean finish.

also, most importantly, serger seams stretch along with stretchy fabrics without breaking the seams. stretch sems are way harder to do and less effective in normal sewing machines, and are impossible to do in machines with only a straight seam option.

You can make a third, inner layer with a shelf bra! Probably something I should do for a tutorial :)
