Here's just some of the comments from TNP Patrons on this video that was posted by elite TNP Donors: "Anthony Schaad Awesome GRV Nutn! I actually bought the original Ruger Ar556 on ur recommendation when it first come out . It’s definitely a great gun, I got into some higher end stuff n sold it to my father so I know he has a reliable AR on hand n ready to go lol. N just sayn I know u have a bunch of black rifles but there is on company I haven’t seen yet and it just so happens to be one I own. If ya ever get ur hands on one, the Barrett Rec7 DI is really a outstanding rifle. Mlok version, don’t know if u could even find one now , I heard Barrett ceased all Civilian operations n are solely focused on military contracts right now but it would e interesting to hear your take. Anyway great content Nutn! 4w Zack Harris Honest review, agree great features / value, accuracy improves when sampling heavier grains. Keep it up, Double owl. 4w UnnamedSwiss Great review NUTN! If any of you guys are looking for a cheap light slim handguard I have 2 of the Trinity force ultra slim 15" handguards in keymod. Idk if they're still in production but I'm impressed by them. [Edit] My friend has the 12" go check it out www.ballisticamerican.com/products/accessories-trinity-force-2780 4w Joshua Wilson I, like a few others, cannot get it to play either. I have tried several times. 1 4w Heath Dietz My wife bought me an ar556 MPR for Christmas last year $750 and it came with a free Ruger 10/22 from sportsmans warehouse. I watched the original video and thought to myself Ruger watched Nutnfancy and applied all of his recommendations to this gun. I have a Vortex strike eagle also Nutnfancy recommended on it and it shoots groups I am happy with probably 2 inches at 100yds off a rest. 2 4w Red dog 1 If your wife bought you two guns she is a keeper for sure. 1 4w Bretti Andrettski Thumbs up on more black GRW's. I never get tired of them. Thanks Nutn. Loved seeing Jardine in there then realized it was old footage. SHOUT OUT we miss you Jardine. 4w Aaron Walker There just isn't any reason to have an 18 barrel if it is t accurate. The extra velocity won't help you if you can't hit anything far out. 4w Red dog 1 Yeah what a bummer that’s it’s not sub moa. 4w Shawn Kuse Still looking to buy my first AR. Been watching all of the older vids to increase my knowledge. Haven’t shot an AR since my military days. To buy off shelf or build. That is the question. Owned the FJR. Now I ride a Goldwing. Thx Nutn for all that you do! 2 4w david rockwell The hour is late. Buy a good quality, low cost AR now. Research, acquire parts and build your dream rifle in the days to come. 2 4w Load 3 replies Rick Grad I have one of the More Practice Rugers. I was using 69g and 77g IMI to test out accuracy...best I could get at 100 yards off a bench was just a little better than 1.5" groups. I really like how it shoots and for under $600 when I got mine, it's fine. I would not say it's on par with $1,000 parts builds, but its a nice rifle for $600. EDIT 3 shot groups with the Weaver Kaspa 3-9 Illuminated scope. 4w Rusty Chains Didn't the first version have 5R rifling? Or was that the S&W? 4w Shot442 My early MPR is 5R as is my early S&W M&P Sport. 3w J Ram Full disclosure....I'm a Ruger fan boy.....having said that you need to call a spade a spade....55gr Am Fed hitting about 1.5 MOA at 100yds with a can on it......but I still love it.....Preach on re Rock River Nutn, my very first AR purchased was a RR and I hit sub MOA on that all day long. Don't even get me started on my Ruger AR10....I just finally figured out the ammo to give me 2.5 MOA at 100yds (147gr Blazer Brass of all things), and 1" groups at 50yds.....but I love it too. Did I mention I was a Ruger fan boy? (still hurts my feelings when you talk about the Ruger American pistol being "ugly", lol) 4w Harley Video will not play on my iPhone......getting an error. 4w Chris Gambee Thanks for the review. For some of us the human is the limiting factor for accuracy, so probably a good value considering that. 4w Rob Miller Will not play for me. Older iPhone 6. Maybe that’s the problem? 4w Michael Rodman No I have a iPhone 11 with iOS 13.7 and it won’t work for me either. 4w Load reply Tommy Forsyth Won’t play on my iPhone either. 4w Arthur Krieger Can't get enough black rifle content Nutn! 1 4w john milochis Nice 4w Rob Miller Tried again tonight. No luck. Maybe tomorrow it will play for me. 3w Christopher Creswell I own one, love it. 3w Tommy Forsyth Still no worky 😞 3w Rob Miller Tomorrow is today and it still won’t play. But hey! I won’t go away into the fray because that’s not okay. I will keep faith and try again tomorrow if the Lord gives me another day to borrow. 3w Tony Schilling I have audio but no video 3w Phake A'Count I read that Ruger bought Marlin. That will be an interesting merger. 1 3w EthanRX Thanks again Nutn. Appreciate all the new content lately!!! 2 3w Antonio Kheir Can we see a review of that RPG? Thinking about adding it to my edc. 3w Shot442 Video will not play 4 3w Rob Miller Y’all, I shared the video to myself via text and it finally played for me last night. 3w Shot442 Tried the suggestion but unfortunately the video still won’t play 3w Harold Galen McPheron Honesty at it's best... 3w Casey Jones Whoa! So when you listed the donors was that Kyle Rittenhouse of Kenosha, WI fame? 3w Greg Mason These were $599 in pre-covid days. It was an amazing price for the features. At that price this is a great gun. But at current prices...as you said I would prefer to build my own with my own choice barrel and weight lowering options I always add. 3w Donald Weber Good rifles if you paid less than $700. They re not $800-$900 rifles. I have two of them and they had the same problems with both, mainly the handguards have no anti-rotation features and both of mine backed off when firing. Removed the oil from the barrel nut, locktighted the bolts and no problems since. Both of mine can be sub MOA with the right ammo. mm 3w Bentley I have seriously been considering this rifle to fill a mid to long range role. But after the sub-par performance in the accuracy department, I find myself steering away. I had much higher hopes for the barrel quality here. 3w Shot442 Nutn, for the other vid that wouldn’t play you shared an alternative link. Can you do same for this one please? 3w Tommy Forsyth I was having the same problem and I shared the video with myself and played it on the Brave browser 2w Jerry Hall I’ll be watching during my lunch break at work 3w watchman5 Please review the Sig 716i 3w Matt Shores Can you release this on main channel? It won’t play in patreon for me. 2w Tommy Forsyth I was having the same problem, click on “share” and play on another browser, Brave and Chrome both worked on my phone. 2w Lee Harrell Wait a minute! Is Kyle really a donor or is this a joke? 2w Len Holt LMAO!"
been a sub or yours for years (almost since the beginning) but i gotta call it like i see it, ive shot a metric ton of different types of rifles in my life and whenever there's allegedly a "problem" with the guns build quality or some other allegation thats making it inaccurate it ALWAYS gets revealed that the person operating the tool is what's inaccurate. At least in my experience that's been the case every single time so while technically possible for ya too've had a lousy barrel i personally suspect you just didn't shoot as well as you normally do and that happens to everyone definitely including me.
No it’s definitely the gun… my ways are flawless and my old one with a non floated handgaurd was .6 MOA….. this new one is abysmal by comparison. I would definitely go with a lighter gun than run this hog and it still shoot equal to or worse than a 400$ lightweight….🤷♂️?
Hey Nutn, I've bought an MPR about 3 years ago as my first AR when I was 19. After about 4000 rounds I have noticed this rifle works really well with Black Hills 77gr BTHPs. First time I shot with those off a bipod at 200 yards it printed a 1.75in group! Very happy with that ammo, too bad it isn't less expensive. The heavier the ammo the happier the rifle is. Also, still waiting on a single malfunction!
I can also attest to Rugers service. It is excellent. I broke the firing pin in my security 9 and they took care of it in a timely manner. If that's not end all be all service these days, I don't know what is!
My first AR was the ruger ar 556. Being a broke college student it was right on par with the sw mp15 and I went with the ruger. I have put thousands of rounds through it without issue and it’s the cheap stuff. Dressed her up as time went on and now it’s still my favorite gun to go bring out.
The Ruger was my second choice-- bought the M&P because it came with the Magpul foregrips I was going to upgrade whatever rifle I bought to. Love my M&P15, but I know I would've loved the Ruger too (have a friend who has one...) 😁👍
That's amazing, especially considering that green tips are not the most accurate round because they can never get that tungsten penetrator rod perfectly balanced within the round
When I got my mpr it was only $50 more than the standard ar556. Just the trigger upgrade costs at least $130. I got .6 moa with hornady frontier 55grain hollow point match. .8 with federal 55grain fmj.
Ruger makes the MPR with a 16.1” barrel, mid length gas system and the pic rail doesn’t run the entire length of the rail. Furniture is also different (not Magpul). Very cool!
Have a MPR, I use it for 3 gun. I can't speak to its accuracy, but I will say I have put close to 1.5k rounds through mine with zero issues with various brass ammo. Trigger is excellent. I did upgrade the bolt extractor with a BCM extractor upgrade kit (10$). Agreed, very soft shooting and easy to make quick follow-up shots.
I bought my son one of these as his first AR about 2.5 yrs ago. I think the best group we have shot is about 2.5 MOA. Some of that is us, but he did buy an Aero upper with a 16" 1:7 barrel in .223 Wylde and instantly dropped to a little under 1.5.
The 8529 model AR556 not a MPR but 16" bbl and free float handguard. EXCELLENT accuracy...best grouping I get is using 62 gr...moa or less. Can't figure out WHY so many people 💩 on the rifle.
I bought a Ruger AR556 MPR as my first AR15 and I love it. I’ve put quite a few together now but I’ve never had an issue with my Ruger. Shot 500 rounds through it before the first clean and it just keeps chugging along no problem. Picked mine up right around $600 after tax brand new and I definitely don’t regret it. It’ll consistently put rounds on a 10” steel target over 300 yards away with the Riton red dot I have on it. I did swap over to the magpul moe rifle stock and buffer system but even before that this thing shot so smooth. Recoil impulse was slightly reduced after the buffer system changes. Anyways feeling like a dummy for editing this comment like 5 times but I can’t stop saying good things about it. Love your content! Keep up the hard work!
I've got the standard Ruger AR-556 16" Carbine, switched out the trigger for the Elite 452 trigger and I get sub MOA with several different commercial loads. Incredibly accurate and reliable rifle.
I know this comment is super old, but do you remember how the old single stage trigger was compared to the MPR’s 2 stage? I’m looking to buy a Ruger AR soon and I’m getting a million conflicting opinions on whether the stock single stage is better or if the 452 2 stage is better. I’ve read so many differing opinions I gave myself a headache… any help would be greatly appreciated!
Somehow I’ve gotten 1-1.5 moa at 100yrds with federal 55gr with a 1-6x scope without much effort. I’ve put them in the same hole several times also. Love the trigger, shoots super smooth, which is what sold me on it. No complaints. I love mine.
Just saw the 16” and the 18” version at my local gun store. Both are priced RIGHT AT MSRP! Honestly I’m really digging the 16” model. Probably gonna get it for my first ever AR15. Nice review as always, much love from Texas!
Love my MPR 3 shot groups all rnds touching at 225yds PMC 223 55g and Winchester red 223 62g olny issue is it will not cycle steel case and is real picky on ammo it likes but Im happy with it
@@riverside321 Depends on how you plan to shoot it. For an all around electronic sight you cant go wrong with trijicon, aimpoint, or Eotec. If you plan to shoot longer ranges a low power variable optic is a good versatile way to go.
The best way to buy guns now is just to stop by the big box stores that sell guns early during the day. I have been able to get any guns I have wanted throughout 2020 but I also have an Cabelas on my way home from work.
Prices are quite inflated right now but once things hopefully settle you won't be disappointed if you pick one up. I've been extremely happy with mine plus if you were to ever have issues ruger has fantastic customer service and warranty support.
The Reddit community has stated to just about anybody who wants to buy a first black rifle that the MPR is the one to get it has the highest level of value that you can get in a premade rifle
I’ve had mine since 2018 the best groups I’ve ever gotten out of it was just under 1 MOA with Hornady 75gr Interlock ammo. I average just under 2 MOA with 55gr.
I would never mount a scope on an ar half on the upper, and half on the floating hand guard. Cant imagine that’s helping your accuracy. Just my 2 cents.🤷🏻♂️
Have had mine a couple years, big fan super soft shooting! And mine is about 2 MOA with cheap 55 grain ammo but 77's I can pretty consistently get around 1 MOA maybe just under on a good day
Try switching your muzzle break. It completely changed mine. It not only tightened up my groups but it took out the above acceptable POI shift between loads. When I was shooting prone the pepper brake was causing massive POI shift between loads. But again it also tightened up my groups quite a bit. It’s worth trying in yours too. I was shocked that changing the muzzle device changed the rifles performance so much. With the factory muzzle brake I was getting the same accuracy as you was getting. After putting on the most generic flash hider I’m very happy with my accuracy. I too am an accuracy snob.
Watched the first one years ago. My dad had actually bought one when they first came out with a windowed pmag for $580 I thought that was a steal. Gun ran great and still does. A few years ago Cabelas had a deal on them for like 630$ so I got my sister one. Never made it out the store because the bolt was out of spec. I think ruger’s QC goes up and down. Almost bought the MPR when it came out but was nervous about the QC. Bought BCM and haven’t looked at another brand since. Last year I built my dad a povertysa pistol (450$ total man 2020 price suck) he had a major surgery and can’t wield a full length too well. I ran the psa 11.5 with steal ammo in rain dropping mags in the mud and ran it in snow. After a couple malfunctions that thing has ran great. I recommend psa for a beginner gun over the ruger and BCM for people who want to spend more.
Hey nutnfancy, I thank you for getting my patches to me. And I appreciate the candid nature of what went wrong. Thanks for making it right! Everyone at my job got a kick out of the patch.
Hey, Nutn, you must have given this rifle a great review, because in today's dollars, (22 July 2023), the price is now up another $230 at $1,129 MSRP. I 'm sold. I want one. I wanted to get an AR556 model 8503 (desert tan finish). Both of these would be a first-ever AR for me.
My two year old MPR does sub MOA with Hornady steel match and 1.5 MOA with steel core TulAmmo. Other brands vary, like Winchester is closer to 2.5 MOA. I am very happy with this 100% reliable Ruger rifle after 3000 plus rounds before the first cleaning. Still shoots great after a good scrubbing... I did replace the Ruger muzzle break with a thread protector just to get the muzzle blast headed more down range. Personally I hardly notice a difference in recoil but is much more pleasant to shoot.
A ruger Mpr was my very first firearm purchase. I got an absolute smoking deal on it at the time and was not disappointed! I have shot many rounds through it, though nothing at any sort of range, so I cannot comment on its accuracy. Only problem I had with it is that the forend is absolute junk and would not stay torqued on. So, your accuracy issues may stem from that since you bridged your optic mount... I cannot say for certain however.
Is it possible that front hand guard is moving slightly? On you AR556 review you could only mount that thing on the upper receiver. Since it was mounted on both the upper and the rail it could be a factor...love your vids Nutn first gun ar I bought was a M&P sport ii thanks to your recommendation
11:27 Is the scope in this video mounted properly nutn? Many comments point out that the scope was mounted to the fore end. Could this have affected the accuracy of your testing? Thank you for the amazing reviews.
Ruger sells another rifle just like this but with a 16 inch barrel and B5 systems grip and stock, everything thing else is identical. Plan on putting a 1-8x on it when they are in stock, but with just a red dot and 55 gr PMC I got around 2 inches at 100. That was also with less than 50 rounds through it so I think it probably could do much better with magnification and better ammo.
Just bought mine for $780.. Literally walked in the shop just delivered to them while I was standing there. Was a no brainer to purchase, definitely meant to be!
Yeah, I have the original AR556, I find my best groups are 55 grain cold barrel (down around 0.75 MOA), but my most consistent groups are the 62 grain (1.25 MOA).
Just had a distal clavicle resection and rotator cuff nibbled on a partial tear 3 weeks ago. FYI USE THE ICE MACHINE! I did, stopped the narcotics after the 1st day and Aleve after 2 days. Very little discomfort and near zero pain so far. I hope you have the same experience and a fast recovery!
Just had my 5 shoulder surgery. 2 on left 3 on right. The last one 15 weeks ago was reverse total replacement surgery. Actually pain wise, easier than the 4 rotator cuff surgeries. This surgery is a long slow progress to recover from, but had no choice and they say I need it on the other side. Best of luck. My MPR is excellent
Don't know what you're problem was... but my MPR using Hornady PSP is a sub MOA gun all day at 100y. Killed a 'yote at 300 by shooting it in the face with this rifle. Federal 55gr FMJ is a 1.25 moa ammo out of it. I did have to take the handguard off and reposition it, then actually tighten it. When I did this it became accurate.
Hey Nuttin! Whats the deal with the lack of info/popularity for RIFLE LENGTH gas systems on the interwebs? Seems like most people talk about carbine or mid-length. Glad you gave the RIFLE LENGTH a quick lime-light! Smoooooooth!
Got this rifle for my dad and we went straight to the range. It would shoot shoot jam. Shoot shoot jam. Fuck! Tried all sorts of ammo, stronger ejector spring, different buffers, ect. Said fuck it called Ruger and they said to ship them the rifle. We did and within 2 weeks (during the “pandemic”) they called and said the rifle was on its way back and I asked them to ship it to my local FFL (that’s what I thought I had to do) but, she said no need you already bought it and performed the background check so it’s being shipped right to your door. Chamber was messed up so they gave us a brand new upper receiver no questions asked. It arrived in 2 days at my door with the new upper and we went straight to the range. Not a single problem with 500 rounds of 5.56 and .223. We didn’t have to pay a damn dime for ANYTHING. Needless to say I will be buying many more Ruger products the way they took care of us with customer service was phenomenal and every company should treat their customers that way. Now 2,500 rounds later it hasn’t had a single hick up and has ran great. So impressed with Ruger it really made me feel like they cared everyone I talked to through the process was awesome. Only thing I wish I had gotten him the mid length instead of the carbine length but, it’s still a smooth shooting rifle. Way to go Ruger. Thank you.
We all sold our AR556's, and apart from the sentimentality for it, I don't miss 'em. I'd rather have the old LWRC back first, but it is kinda cool how premium those early ones were. That bolt was super easy to clean. -Doodle
I had the ar-556 from Ruger for a little while. It was a great rifle. Sold it for a hk pistol I no longer own. I regret selling that Ruger to this day.
Got one, had one forever....BEST TRIGGER I COUKD EVER WANT TO TOUCH!, 77gr smk handloads, whole maggs in 1 single ragged holes, amazing rifle, oh and zero malfunctions, just my experience
I have one as my duty rifle. Bought it about 2 weeks before the Covid gun shortage hit for $630 new. Put about 1500 rounds through it over a week of rifle training. I absolutely love it. When you say it’s loud you aren’t lying. It also puts out a lot of sideways shock as well, so anyone shooting next to you might not like it.
Wow, you americans are so lucky to be Americans. I just ordered my MPR since gun laws was loosened this year, have to pay almost 2k usd for the rifle only. I badly need an ar for all reasons. This is the reality for living in a less free country. I guss I should be happy that it is even possible to ovn firearms at all.
I have this rifle, bought it about a month or so before you published this video. I have not taken any long shots with it even though I have had it over a year now. The day I picked it up from the gun store, I bought a set of pic rail folding sights and went to an indoor range. I shot standing unsupported at 25yds the first five shots were less than 1/2 inch group all five touching each other. I know it's only 25 yards, but that is the max at that indoor facility. I was impressed since I had never shot the gun before and that was literally out of the box and on the range. I think that is largely due to what you mentioned, it is a soft shooter. Im less picky about pure accuracy on a 5.56 rifle than I am on my AR-10 which I would use for anything further than 100 yards anyway. I like the ergonomics and the use of good furniture and accessories. The trigger and the very soft shooting is excellent. I also own a mini-14 and this gun is more accurate than that one near as I can tell. I took my old Mini-14 with me that same day and compared. I know... only 25 yds, but the mini 14 could not replicate the performance... it wasn't even close. Full disclosure my Mini-14 is 30 years old so it lacks the more recent accuracy updates of new Minis. One of these days I'll get the MPR out to a real rifle range and see how it does at 100 and 200 yards.
Been waiting on this one for a while. I had the choice between this and a custom built 20 inch rifle based on the some of the points you made in the SPR Concept video. I decided to grab the MPR because at the time it was 650 while my custom build was around 1100. That extra 450 went into a Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9, A5 buffer and tube and, a STR stock. The accuracy is decent. I can get get over a 1 inch 5 shot group with 55 grain American Eagle in 556 NATO. 1.5 inch in 62 grain green tip. Gold Medal Match 77 grain was just under an inch, barely, but I will admit to shooting that group faster than I should have because I wanted to move the target out to 200 and 300 yards. I plan on doing the 77 grain test again, when I can find it, as well as Hornady 75 grain ELDs. All in all its a decent rifle with a scope and offset red dot sight.
Did you dry a different scope? Something with those shot strings is telling me either clarity or parallax is an issue. You are right, it should be shooting better.
Awesome. Ive been hoping you'd review this since your AR556 review. My standard/original AR556 shooting 77gr IWI Color Box shoots sub-moa with zero heat shift at higher round counts. I bought it to be a beater/cabin/loner rifle and its turned out to bea real surprise.
Nutn... You know what needs surgery??.... that shooting table at 18:46..... that thing is wobblier (real word?) than your rotator cuff, bro!!! ;) Hey man, great reviews as always, much love, and best of luck getting your arm fixed!!
I kinda wanna buy another one, I sold it to pick up a garand I didn't wanna miss out on since I had an Lwrc.... now I've sold them both. It was heavy but it was super easy to clean and a pretty premium product. I'm hoping the value drops down just a bit sometime. I did hear you can finagle another handguard on too, if it clears the piston. I miss how easy that thing is to clean.
That elite 452 trigger is no joke either, j literally just yesterday swapped it for a guisselle ssa-e, barely edged out the elite 452, it went in a 16 incher with 5x prism, so everyone got an upgrade
I’m 3 months post shoulder operation right now. Was able to get back out in the desert hiking and shooting handguns at about 2 months post op. No fun but you’ll get through it!
All those plane models are dope. I was big into WWII RC planes, with my dad for the longest time. Still have them, just don't see much flight time anymore. Still Have a spitfire, corsair, p-51, couple modified supercubs, razor back etc. Waiting until daughter is old enough to understand and work the controls.
I was in Gunnies up in Orem a couple weeks ago and they had tons of ammo despite the current situations (election, Covid), so kudos to them for being prepared. I am still waiting for them to get back to me about buying a rifle they don't have in stock (S&W M&P 15 Sport 2) so maybe I'll check out the AR556 instead. Good review, although I don't come for the tomfoolery that you seem to enjoy including in your videos.
I see about 1.25 to 1.5 average. In factory loads it seems to really like Frontier 55 gr and I've had some great groups with handholds. I run just the upper on an upgraded lower with a similar 2-stage trigger and an upgraded bolt. I think barrel whip may be causing contact between the thin rail and the gas block, so I'd be interested to see how it performs with a shorter rail. I do like how soft it shoots.
@@adventuresinreality2645 My main rifle I really got at a steal. All be it I built it. Still. I have a ballistic advantage barrel, Aero upper and lower receiver, and magpul furniture. I built it for a little less than $600 just by searching local shops for good deals.
@@barcelona2170 well done! Did about the same, used norinco Mak90, added handguard, light, holosun. Digging it so far, trigger is amazing on those MAKs. Needs a duracoat, thing is UGLY lol
@@adventuresinreality2645 That's awesome. The only thing I think I'm going to upgrade soon is probably the handguard. It's KeyMod and while my accessories are still good, thinking it might be best to get on board for the present and future. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Just ordered my FIRST AR. (I am a collector of Russian Firearms because I like the knock down power regardless of lost 200yd accuracy) BUT WHAT I WANTED TO SAY is that you missed the MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE OF THIS RIFLE. (reason I bought it) -- It has a COLD HAMMER FORGED BARREL!!! (meaning it will withstand a LOT more heat before your accuracy wanes!)
I bought this exact one around Christmas time of 2021. So I've only had it for a month now, and I've shot about 500-600 rounds through it and it works amazingly.
I rarely comment but I've had my MPR for a couple of years now and it is exceptionally accurate. With ammo it likes I have easily got sub MOA. Really reliable and buttery smooth. However the buffer gets some strange marks on it for some reason. Still can't figure out why but they are minimal and seem to cause no issues. After buying this rifle I have had four other friends buy it after having shot mine and they love theirs. One of the best values on the market. Highly recommend.
I've run this rifle through many course and thousands of rounds and it has not failed me. I even use tula and it runs. The only thing I didn't like and bought a replacement was their bolt carrier. Not pinned well at all. Also the front rail fell off during a course, so I used blue lock tight, and its never been an issues.
I think most would be better served by building, or buying a S&W M&P. I'm the gunsmith down the block from Gunnies, and I get a lot of AR556s on my bench. Not impressed, glad they're doing it, but this is what our customers experience as well.
I'm having a hard time understanding the title "Why This Version Is Best." I have had a chance to fire both of these models. What you say about it being loud is sooooo true. So, one model against another: AR-556, 16 inch with MOE and sites: 1 MOA AR-556 MPR, 18 inch and much louder: 1.5 to 2 MOA, no MOE equipment or sights. Please clarify (other than a better trigger): Why go longer and louder only to be less accurate?
So i have this gun, and it is a SPR. Definition of an SPR is an 18-20 in barrel, high to medium power optic And it shoots intermediate cartridges. Also that elite 452 4.5 lb trigger definitely makes it more accurate at longer distances.
I have 2 of the ruger556 mpr I found the best accuracy with Hornady frontier 556 75 gr bthp best group was .616 avg group was .7 to .8 moa at 100 this was shooting of a bench with the Caldwell stinger rest. I have shot frontier 55 gr close to moa but not consistent. It avgs about 1 1/2 moa. Imi razorcore 77gr 1 moa to 1/2 moa . Very pleased with both I have one set up for close quarters home defense the other is set up more for distance with 4x12x50 scope.
This rifle is the VERY BEST that is anywhere close to the money!! I can't urge all of my fellow Americans enough to grab one of these guys from Ruger. I got the 5.56 & I've never been more impressed with a gun right out of the box. It's an AMAZING rifle for the money!! Every home should have at least one of these in their homes -- Yes, seriously!! My buddy has one. Bolt extraction issue. Stripped is and found a shard of metal in cam pin tracked. Cleaned it up then it shot fine 1 1/2 groups. Better QC Ruger
I have had GREAT luck with your reviews. I bought a Masada after watching your review EXCELLENT. I already have this Ruger AR556 MPR 8514 also EXCELLENT. I get much better accuracy...1 moa with 55fmg handloads. Same with 55fmj Federal. Maybe there is something wrong with yours. Maybe something is loose. I will likely replace the muzzle brake with a standard flash hider. You may like the Radicals. Would like to see what you think. Just bought one for wife and another for daughter. Very nice.
I saw the original ar556 video when it dropped. This is around what I was getting on paper with my diamondback 15 with cheap ammo in 2015. I’m a accuracy snob nowadays. I roll my own ars and aks. It hit me way worse when my 2019 aes10b was like 4.5-5.5” group at 100 yards. My hob cobbled aks are usually 1.5-2” at 100. Thanks!
We talk about doing AK builds sometime, but they are just super expensive if you're used to seeing the cheap parts kits back in the day. I remember thinking you could build one for about Four hundo all in, now you're looking at average sticker by the time you have everything on hand. Granted, no 4473, but for us, we're totally on the radar. Still, building a homespun Maadi clone would be pretty cool. -Doodle
@@nutnfancy nice. I’m just finishing up my hk53 clone and mp5k clone. Already working on my mg42 build. Faxon dmr ak barrel after those. None of them make sense financially hahahaha
I KNEW you would get to this, because it fixed all of your concerns when you reviewed the AR-556. I've had mine over a year now. No complaints other than maybe the muzzle brake, which while effective, is loud as hell.
Oh, and I've only ever shot Federal 5.56 NATO 62 Grain Green tip, pretty consistent 1" rifle. But the value is outstanding. You really need nothing but an optic and a sling/mounts. The trigger is very good for factory.
Love my mpr. Only issue I’ve had was with cycling cheap steel ammo (tulammo specifically) installed an bcm extractor Spring Upgrade Kit and haven’t had any issues since. Overall I love the gun great quality for a good price.

been a sub or yours for years (almost since the beginning) but i gotta call it like i see it, ive shot a metric ton of different types of rifles in my life and whenever there's allegedly a "problem" with the guns build quality or some other allegation thats making it inaccurate it ALWAYS gets revealed that the person operating the tool is what's inaccurate. At least in my experience that's been the case every single time so while technically possible for ya too've had a lousy barrel i personally suspect you just didn't shoot as well as you normally do and that happens to everyone definitely including me.
Sold to your Father??? I give Mine as Gifts......To Family.....
kyle rittenhouse was on there fr😭
That's good info to know, I had great luck with 55 Winchester range ammo. I had great groups, better than my dad and he's been shooting for 40+ years.
I love all my Ruger guns. They are great in and of themselves, but I also know that have a great warranty and customer service to back it up
I had serious problem and it was sent back fixed and I didn't pay a cent
I can also attest to Rugers service. It is excellent. I broke the firing pin in my security 9 and they took care of it in a timely manner. If that's not end all be all service these days, I don't know what is!
My first AR was the ruger ar 556. Being a broke college student it was right on par with the sw mp15 and I went with the ruger. I have put thousands of rounds through it without issue and it’s the cheap stuff. Dressed her up as time went on and now it’s still my favorite gun to go bring out.
Do you have the magpul furniture?
The Ruger was my second choice-- bought the M&P because it came with the Magpul foregrips I was going to upgrade whatever rifle I bought to. Love my M&P15, but I know I would've loved the Ruger too (have a friend who has one...)
😁👍
I got 1-1.25" with 62gr green tip. And the same with Hornady 55gr.
Good to know. Thanks for the tip man!
@@TacticalDoodle I used the winchester 62 gr green tips as well and got a 5 shot group at 0.8 MOA. I mounted a PA 4-14 with acss orion reticle.
That's amazing, especially considering that green tips are not the most accurate round because they can never get that tungsten penetrator rod perfectly balanced within the round
I would try it again with a non green tip 62 grain
@@mckimmym at what distance?
I see that B-17 in the background. My grandfather was a bombardier in the 8th Air Force, “Bloody 100th”.
Looking to get my 1st soon. Did you get the 16" Ruger?
I just picked the 16.1" version. Can't wait to try it.
Love my MPR 3 shot groups all rnds touching at 225yds PMC 223 55g and Winchester red 223 62g olny issue is it will not cycle steel case and is real picky on ammo it likes but Im happy with it
The Ruger MPR is awesome, super smooth shooter. My MPR likes the heavier loads.
Same here. Had it for 2 years now and it’s been great. Does like 62g or heavier though.
Picked mine up today and picked up a 60 round mag while I was there. Couldn’t help it
Same here. 77 grain 👍🏻
What should we use as all around sight systems
@@riverside321 Depends on how you plan to shoot it. For an all around electronic sight you cant go wrong with trijicon, aimpoint, or Eotec. If you plan to shoot longer ranges a low power variable optic is a good versatile way to go.
1 year update ? Also do you think looking back that having your optic bridged to the rail might have affected your grouping
Yeah that always gives real streetcred among target shooters.....
I am a fan of that Ruger. Looking forward to getting one of my own once they become available again in my area. Thanks for the upload!

Why would anyone get a psa when they can buy ruger
@@hurricane8634 psa makes some good stuff especially for the price.
Bc they want to save $150. Rather than have a lifetime gun. Nutn has gotten worse with this. He gives no bonus points for build quality anymore.
I have this rifle. I'm watching this to affirm my decision in purchasing it. I love it.
lol Same.
Me too dude. I absolutely love it.
And mine is about 2 MOA with cheap 55 grain ammo but 77's I can pretty consistently get around 1 MOA maybe just under on a good day
Great report, I concur with that!
Hornady Frontier 62gr match 1"-1.25" and MOA with Perfecta 55gr back when you could still get it at Walmart.
Hey Beavis why don't you do a review on that Datsun truck? Are you hiding it are you hiding from it
Try switching your muzzle break.
Did you have trouble taking off the original break that it came with?
Did you notice any accuracy issues bridging the gap with that scope?
Got the same gun having trouble with taking the muzzle off it just won’t come off
Is it possible that front hand guard is moving slightly? On you AR556 review you could only mount that thing on the upper receiver. Since it was mounted on both the upper and the rail it could be a factor...love your vids Nutn first gun ar I bought was a M&P sport ii thanks to your recommendation
11:27 Is the scope in this video mounted properly nutn? Many comments point out that the scope was mounted to the fore end. Could this have affected the accuracy of your testing? Thank you for the amazing reviews.
Dang, That poor accuracy stuff was discouraging. The whole point of the MPR is to act as a distance rifle too
Its 2023, got mine in 2015. Stellar function, great accuracy, and nothing has broke. I run an old holosun and it has held zero like a champ.
I think if you are "accuracy snob", you should install the scope monoblock only on the receiver, not on the receiver and the forend at the same time
Ruger sells another rifle just like this but with a 16 inch barrel and B5 systems grip and stock, everything thing else is identical. Plan on putting a 1-8x on it when they are in stock, but with just a red dot and 55 gr PMC I got around 2 inches at 100. That was also with less than 50 rounds through it so I think it probably could do much better with magnification and better ammo.
Got mine this spring for $650 and now they are $950!

Barrel has a twist rate of 1:8 so heavier loads would be better, but it can shoot almost anything with practice. Great rifle!
I have the Ruger mpr 556 it's a great rifle. It's a little louder than the basic Ruger 556 but less recoil it has better features

I have a Ruger MPR and I’m sub moa at 100 yards with 62 grain 5.56
Hey Nuttin! Whats the deal with the lack of info/popularity for RIFLE LENGTH gas systems on the interwebs? Seems like most people talk about carbine or mid-length. Glad you gave the RIFLE LENGTH a quick lime-light! Smoooooooth!
I got one a couple years ago to make it my SPR based on your old video and mine gets half moa with federal 77gr smk 223
I love it. Compact, reliable, and affordable. Thanks TNP.
Thank you.
This has made a wonderful first AR for me!

We all sold our AR556's, and apart from the sentimentality for it, I don't miss 'em. I'd rather have the old LWRC back first, but it is kinda cool how premium those early ones were. That bolt was super easy to clean.

Great price for that. I'm really digging how cheap Ruger is able to get some of this stuff. _Doodle
Same rifle and Same Ammunition and mine shoots sub moa too.
Must be the best match of rifle/Ammo
For this platform.
Shouldn't the scope be fully mounted on the receiver?
I’ve been waiting to see him address any of the many comments regarding this......... still “nutn” lol
Nutn... You know what needs surgery??.... that shooting table at 18:46..... that thing is wobblier (real word?) than your rotator cuff, bro!!! ;) Hey man, great reviews as always, much love, and best of luck getting your arm fixed!!
For me, it’s the Ruger SR-556. Ruger Rocks!
Same I have the 6.8 spc version. Been a great rifle.
Want
@@jackbrightside it's worth it
@@Deadtileyedie I really want a piston gun and the SR556 keeps coming up
I kinda wanna buy another one, I sold it to pick up a garand I didn't wanna miss out on since I had an Lwrc.... now I've sold them both.
Do you think the Ruger MPR would be a good clone of the mk12
I was in Gunnies up in Orem a couple weeks ago and they had tons of ammo despite the current situations (election, Covid), so kudos to them for being prepared. I am still waiting for them to get back to me about buying a rifle they don't have in stock (S&W M&P 15 Sport 2) so maybe I'll check out the AR556 instead. Good review, although I don't come for the tomfoolery that you seem to enjoy including in your videos.
Ready gunner there also has a good selection of ammo I find
I see about 1.25 to 1.5 average. In factory loads it seems to really like Frontier 55 gr and I've had some great groups with handholds. I run just the upper on an upgraded lower with a similar 2-stage trigger and an upgraded bolt. I think barrel whip may be causing contact between the thin rail and the gas block, so I'd be interested to see how it performs with a shorter rail. I do like how soft it shoots.
mine was about the same. upgraded trigger to 3.5lb single stage “architech” trigger and groups improved dramatically to 1/2 moa consistently.
Man am I glad I got my two rifles built when they were inexpensive. Good quality parts for cheap. Both reliable thank God. Right now it's tough.
Agreed. I am an AK guy, but regretting not pulling the trigger on this AR when it was sub $700 in mpr form. Probably never see that again.
@@barcelona2170 you too my friend! Be well.
I've touched rounds at 200 yds with my 450 bm mpr twice! I only have about 400 rds through it and it seems to be wearing in well.
Do you or any of your friends have the 16” model? I can’t find any comments regarding the 16” model
Does the 16.1" version of the MPR of the chrome-lined barrel also?
I've run this rifle through many course and thousands of rounds and it has not failed me. I even use tula and it runs. The only thing I didn't like and bought a replacement was their bolt carrier. Not pinned well at all. Also the front rail fell off during a course, so I used blue lock tight, and its never been an issues.
My guess for bbl accuracy could be the muzzle break. Take it off and try it
I have never shot factory ammo in mine however with handloads im consistant .75-1 moa. not handpicked groups
I think most would be better served by building, or buying a S&W M&P. I'm the gunsmith down the block from Gunnies, and I get a lot of AR556s on my bench. Not impressed, glad they're doing it, but this is what our customers experience as well.
Dude, Bevis and Butthead are supposedly coming back and this time they're parents 😂. I can't wait!
I'm having a hard time understanding the title "Why This Version Is Best." I have had a chance to fire both of these models. What you say about it being loud is sooooo true.
So, one model against another:
AR-556, 16 inch with MOE and sites: 1 MOA
AR-556 MPR, 18 inch and much louder: 1.5 to 2 MOA, no MOE equipment or sights.
Please clarify (other than a better trigger):
Why go longer and louder only to be less accurate?
Might improve accuracy if you used a mount that was only on the upper and not on the upper and rail.
Sounds like the gun needs a slightly slower twist rate on the barrel. Seems most people are getting tighter groups with heavier grain.
With my handloads in mine (early serial number) 1/3 moa group with 55 gr vmax..love it
So i have this gun, and it is a SPR. Definition of an SPR is an 18-20 in barrel, high to medium power optic
And it shoots intermediate cartridges. Also that elite 452 4.5 lb trigger definitely makes it more accurate at longer distances.
This rifle shoots 350 legend? It doesn’t seem like there is barely recoil like close to 223
i got the model 8514 with the 18inch barrel, shot about 1000 round trough it and no complaints.
God Bless all of You out there.

Very nice.
Is the spikes dynacomp still better- and one of your favorite muzzle devices?
I only own one ruger.. a 10/22 heavy barrel. I have no complaints about ruger. I just find the S&W ar to be well done and accurate for a budget ar.
