Have you ever come across a person with autism who was not able to comprehend the concept of the letter board?

In my experience so far, there has not been a problem of comprehending the concept. Motor control, speed of learning the technique, frequency of lessons, and determination vary greatly with the individual. Here's a video in which a parent and S2C practitioner talk about that question from her own perspective. ua-cam.com/video/XdVzhjIP-0g/v-deo.html

Yes, mainly because the issue is that autism is such a broad diagnosis that encompasses such an enormous array of people. Generally speaking though: if the individual has been diagnosed with autism and is nonspeaking, minimally speaking or unreliably speaking, they will be a candidate.

S2C is "cutting edge" science? I have to disagree with that. I believe studies have shown that FC is not only unhelpful, it can be dangerous to the learner and others around them. There have been studies showing that the "communication" is just the thoughts of the facilitator. I think this is a waste of time and money and preys on desparate family's hopes. This is why we have EBPs

Thanks for your comments and diligence in making sure autism families are not taken advantage of. Much appreciated!
In the recent S2C paper, the researchers used eye tracking devices to determine if the speller looked at the letter before selecting it. This kind of technology wasn't readily available 20 years ago so back then different things were done to try to determine who was spelling. Can you put links to the scientific articles you are referring to? I'd love to make videos about them. Thanks.

@@navigatingawetism Most definitely! Do you have the reference for the new S2C article? I would be more than happy to review it!
The literature on FC, when I search for it, exceeds 27.5k results...there's a lot of research on the topic! However, I have yet to find a peer-reviewed article showing a good correlation of the IV demonstrating experimental control over the DV. I guess my questions is: If there are other evidence-based procedures that can scientifically show that the intervention plays a part in the change in behavior, why would people waste time and money on something that has not been proven...and worse....shown to be harmful? Looking forward to good conversation!
