I've seen a ton of OW playthroughs and I have to say, I've never seen someone use the signalscope so well right from the start. Finding Feldspar within your first two hours of playing your game is a big achievement! And the funniest part is that you skipped the signalscope tutorial (playing hide and seek with the kids)! Looking forward to watching the rest of this series, you're on a roll!
1:11:37 "The music is haunting" Gee I wonder why lmao 1:47:26 "We know death is imminent, but what can we do in the meantime to learn?" What a perfect way to describe this game. That could be part of the sales pitch. I love how you kept humming the theme throughout the whole video. It really does get stuck in your head and then the signalscope gets you curious enough to find out who's playing each instrument. By the way, you're not so bad at flying! Almost every Outer Wilds player is bad at flying, including the pros. It takes some getting used to, but it's always a little rough. You're not even damaging your ship most of the time, and even if you were, it's usually easy to repair.
the ship steering is the single reason i could never get my wife to play it. She just couldnt ever successfully leave the planet. For me I play a lot of flight games so i picked it up fairly quick. Its actually a pretty good flight model, but if you arent used to flying in space it can be hard. The key to success is remembering that your ship carries momentum even after you stop boosting. to stop you have to boost in the other direction just as long as the initial boost. Works similar to the space flight in The Expanse if youve ever seen that show.
38:36 As a matter of fact, the balls _were_ moving before (and throughout the game) - just very slightly so you didn't notice. The movement is caused by actual simulation of the summed gravitational forces due to the planetary bodies in the game - same for most objects in fact!
Also to add, their motion happening just as you read it is 100% coincidence. It's not scripted ingame that the balls will move when you read it, you just read it at the right time for it to happen.
5:05 - Well... here, a glade, across old bark, is always dark, in a quiet shade... So, close, maybe! (haven't played that game lol) Very excited for this playthrough! Just very careful about spoilers ::) *Extra tip:* On the musical side, I would advise (only an advise, tho) not lowering its volume, and maybe rather lowering the master volume, as long as you can clearly hear stuff ;:)
Flying the ship is always a learning curve! Best advice I got was to take things slow and try and really understand the mechanics of flying in zero-g. That, and pay attention to the numbers and arrows when you’re flying toward something. All the HUD options in this game are pretty vital.
“I can’t believe how bad I was at flying that.” 😂😂😂😂 That was literally the best test flight I have ever seen in the 27 or so playthroughs of Outer Wilds I’ve watched.
I jumped in before I got to the observatory lol. Which probably clued me in a little quicker to what was happening, since after the statue I didn't get a "you have died" and before it I did haha
"I need some sort of validation in the comments please that driving your ship is initially chaotic, PLEASE, because it's either that or damn I really can't drive." The problem is that you are trying to drive your ship when you should fly it. ;)
This game is truly life changing, it's the type of game where you can play it once because your first play through cannot be compared to the rest of them, what i would do to experience this game for the first time again!!
It's really interesting seeing new players refusing to wear their suit unless they instantly die without it, when after a certain point players just wear it the entire rest of the game
Always exciting to watch someone new discover this great game. Its really interesting as a developer to see what people pick up on or miss and the assumptions (good or bad) they make. In terms of flying you seem to be doing pretty well, just those accursed Newtonian Physics catching you out, but I reckon they wont pose too much of an issue. So glad you are enjoying the first few hours with the game, its openness and lack of hand-holding can certainly be off-putting to some. I suspect things will start to come together more in the next episode as you discover more and start making connections, just remember to always wear your spacesuit/jetpack ( everyone forgets at least once) and to always check you ship log thoroughly.
This isn't the best game to stream live because of all the backseating and even spoilers in some case. I would also recommend just staying away from reading comments, and/or stay way ahead of actual uploads. If completely stuck on something - I think you've got this though - better to call an actual friend who have played it, who can ask the right questions to form a no backseatery weak hint.
56:19 - FXAA makes things seem to look a bit more blurry, not sure, but the effect may be worsened for the upload by YT compression. Also, yeah, other people did die similarly at first, lol 1:02:24 - Fun fact: That ship model is the actual ship model used in the game's alpha! A real antique!
Man, this is the best thing ever happened!!! Ever since I discovered your channel, I thought to myself you are perfect for playing this game, and this is my favorite game of all time. and hey, enjoy ur ride, which I'm sure I will enjoy watching along.
And just for the record, when I was playing, I jumped into the geyser to 'fly' to the sky and fell to death before I made my way to the observatory, so it was actually game over, and then all the credit started to scroll lmao🤣🤣🤣 u r definitely not alone there. And I did much worse the first time I was trying to navigate through the space in the ship than u did. I'm sure once you get the hang of it, you will thoroughly enjoy to just fly your ship all over the solar system like it's your backyard.
oh hey. a new astronaut about to go on their first expedition. going in blind is indeed the best way, the *only* way, really, to experience the game. looking forward to be frustrated and excited during your journey fortunately, the outer wilds community is generally very good with not spoiling, and we're always itching for new astronauts to join our ranks.
1:26:38 but then you get here on your first try and you didn't even have a ship! 1:48:45 Feldspar would be proud, hatchling. A wonderful start to a new expedition.
funnily enough, your first model ship flight was so smooth, aside from landing upside down, it might be the best i've seen off of a first try. Myself, I careened the ship so diagonally I lost it in the forest.
Since you were concerned about whether you missed anything in the starting village, I'll let you know that you missed a couple of things upstairs in the observatory - you were focused on talking to Hornfels, and didn't look around fully.
you really do have a better grasp of flying then most first time players. the effects of Gravity and Momentum in full 3D are programed in (the balls in the museum were trying to warn you)
I'm SO excited to see this! It's a game you can only playthrough once, so I love seeing other people experience it for the first time. It's the first game that made me cry tears of joy at the ending!
I really enjoyed that. You are flying the ship fine, and you will get better so don't stress about it. Subbed and very much looking forward to episode 2.
Starting the new year off with a bang, i mean crash 🤣 I can already tell this will be one of my favorite playthroughs this year. Happy New Year Anna may this year bring you even more incredible things and none of the bad.
This is entirely my opinion but I think it's usually better to not be so "gamer" when you play this. Things like poking at everything and thinking "oh I might have to do this before I do that or explore here before I talk to this person otherwise I might get locked out of something" aren't necessary, the game will subtly guide you and you'll never be locked out of anything. If the game presents you with a thing to do, just go ahead and do it.
Slight disagree, I think the poke everything is very important for any exploration game. But yeah an overly gamer mindset will get you to treat the game like a mission instead of an adventure
@tinystegosaurus587 The problem Ive seen with people that poke everything in an effort to get past a puzzle that they don't understand or find a secret, is that later when they come across the key to the puzzle it's just "oh, who cares. I already knew this" It kills so many of the amazing eureka! moments
Some observations from earth: - 1:00:30 - A tradition for like 99% of Outer Wilds spacefarers is to completely forget to put on your suit before leaving the ship in space, immediately choking to death, so I'm massively impressed that you remembered! (knock on wood for future episodes...)👩🚀 - 1:00:39 - Don't know if it's too late, but I noticed that when your facecam is in the upper left corner of the screen it covers up some info that would be fun for the viewers to see like current health and fuel/oxygen status. Placing the cam in the upper right corner would be slightly better, but I totally get if that's not possible at this point in time! 👍 - 1:26:39 - Not at all! Feeling like you're doing a bad job at flying/landing the ship on your first playthrough is natural, but compared to the vast majority of other people I've seen playing the game you're doing great!! It must be all that spaceship navigation in Star Citizen that's paying off!👌 - 1:48:49 - Just like you said, each person's unique playthrough of this game is very different, but doing what you just did, in the way you did it, so early into your journey... was INSANE!!! 😮 HOLY MOLY! 👏
9:30 Successful first flight. :) 23:13-25:17 That part was funny because it's a space game, but you not even once pointed the signalscope towards space only towards ground. 26:55 With those "stars" it's almost like you are in space already. 39:59 "It's very cute." Lol... 51:29 First (surprise) death 58:48 Ad astra... Well maybe not that far. :) 1:12:12 "I'm not going to go into the freaking sun yet." But I bet someday you will... ;) 1:15:35 Of all the damages she gets first the reactor damage. :D 1:29:00 Hahaha! 1:36:57 Hhmm, I think I have never seen that before. 1:52:12 Remember that it is cute... :) 2:06:08 Happy new year! Hyvää uutta vuotta!
I'll have to check out this playthrough of yours. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I'll be curious if you want to check out other people's playthroughs of this game once you have completed the game. It's addicting to watch others play it imo. 😂 Great introduction into the game so far!
I think the easiest way to think of the controls is that you're always "decoupled" in SC speak ;) you maintain inertia and need to slow forward momentum and maintain lift so you stop huring legs/landing gear. You'll get it, just like you did in SC.
You weren't the only one to try out the village geysir, obviously. I did too. I also had a very bad time with the mini rocket training, much worse than you :D but that is the great thing about this game. I'm sure you know already. When I played the game myself, I was so scared I would burn down the whole village with my start!!
I wouldn't worry too much about your landings. Most new players are happy if: 1. The ship is right-side-up 2. The ship hasn't exploded 3. They landed on the right planet
Beginner: Smash ship into rock, feel bad about it. Intermediate: Use the landing camera. Flawless landing. Feel accomplished Advanced: Smash ship into rock, feel great about it.
I haven't started the ep yet, but in re: the Q in your description: flying the ship is definitely beyond many (most?) peoples' initial intuition because they're not yet familiar with managing acceleration and velocity in a vacuum. Some small non-spoiler tips: - To stop at your destination, you need to spend as much time slowing down as speeding up (i.e., begin reversing when you're halfway there). - Watch how the autopilot works (aligning trajectory, speeding up, slowing down) - it's a great way to learn basic navigation! - Target your destination and used "match speed" liberally - As a rule of thumb, if your speed is 1/10 of your distance, you can stop in time. E.g. if you are 1000m away from a planet going 100m/s, you can stop before crashing. Looking forward to watching!
This game is really about observation and deduction skills. You've missed a bunch of stuff because you only glanced at them. You are doing better than most with the flying, but you have to remember that it isn't arcade flying it's realistic, when you lock on you can see the distance, relative speed and alignment (the two white arrows).
It takes a bit to get used to the gravity and just how flying works in general. You really have to pay attention to your momentum, because you can’t slow down/stop at a moments notice like other games. Auto pilot really helps!
Stop worrying, you're going to look at it all one way or another, so don't be afraid of taking obvious paths if they appeal. P.S. Always wear your suit... Then if you blow up your ship, you won't choke to death.
*_[[ Facecam Position Tip: ]]_* Hey, if you want some input on this, I've seen it going well on the right side, close to the bottom, or even middle (I think, plus, middle is better than bottom at being closer to the focus center point). That's if you mind covering some relevant HUD stuff. Maybe cropping it a bit, too, to more like a rectangle/circle? To your liking, oc, I'm not even that sure about it, heh.
That was some extremely competent flying for a new player, no joke. Well done. Super excited to see the rest! I hope the comments behave and don't spoil one iota of the experience for you. Be curious in your journey.
Oh, I struggled with the flight controls a lot. I feel like you've already done better than I ever did because I dropped the game after a few hours, I'm ashamed to admit 😂
I do think you're the first person I've seen who acquires the lauch codes, goes up to the platform, and then chooses to die on the planet instead of space
Great playthrough! first, you're doing great, and your landings are fine, don't worry about that, second, congrats on finding Feldspar on your first visit of Dark Bramble! My first visit of Bramble was quite shorter and much scarier.
Welcome to the amazing journey that is Outer Wilds! A big reason of not knowing much about the game is because the OW community is very tightlipped because we want everyone to go into this game knowing as little as possible ::) kudos on finding Feldspar on your first try!
The reason you haven't heard what the game is about is because of the deep love people who have played this game feel for this game. There are very few people I hate enough that I would spoil this game for them.
Irrelavant question , are you Greek , or do you have Greek heritage? Because that is a very Greek name you have. And for the game , every single dialogue and writen stuff is important, nothing is trivial or just extra stuff. take your time and read slow , all the answers and hoe things work is in there. You had a very good start thought ,well done.
@@Rajman1138 ok nice, i am greek and living in Cyprus and i didnt know we have a voice actor from here. in her Imdb is written as an english actor tought
"Controller Player" Oh thank goodness. So many people try to play this game on keyboard/mouse and while it works... it doesn't work as well as on controller. And an already frustrating part of the game for some people gets more frustrating because the kb/m controls there aren't the best.
Woke up in 2025 and decided to cook
That's nice! What dish did you cook?
Marshmallows?
*Looks directly at the sun*
"Still very much night time"
lol, to be fair it is still dark and starry on the moon even when the sun is up
Yeah cuz most of what we think of as daylight is actually our atmosphere lit up, while the moon doesnt have one.

You are in a place all us Outer Wilds veterans wish we were.... At the beginning of this game with no knowledge of what is yet to come.
Welcome to the "Hey-what-is-that"-Simulator.
Have fun exploring, Traveller. ::)
1:27:40 The Signalscope only "learns" a signal's source if you aim it at the source when it's nearby (within a few meters).
Oh shit, a fresh playthrough. 2025 off to a good start. Just be curious, you have all you need.
38:36 As a matter of fact, the balls _were_ moving before (and throughout the game) - just very slightly so you didn't notice. The movement is caused by actual simulation of the summed gravitational forces due to the planetary bodies in the game - same for most objects in fact!

finding feldspar so chaotically and randomly is so "OuterWilds™"
1:40:22 This is such an important thing to learn for this game. Im so glad you got it here and can just play without fear. This game is so beautiful
Flying the ship is always a learning curve!
Best advice I got was to take things slow and try and really understand the mechanics of flying in zero-g.

New to the channel and just finished the ep. I can tell this is going to be a good playthrough of my favorite game!
This is a game about learning stuff and dying in space.
You're doing great! :D
And don't worry, I jumped in the geyser pretty much straight away in my playthrough... you're definitely not alone there.
I jumped in before I got to the observatory lol. Which probably clued me in a little quicker to what was happening, since after the statue I didn't get a "you have died" and before it I did haha
"I need some sort of validation in the comments please that driving your ship is initially chaotic, PLEASE, because it's either that or damn I really can't drive."
The problem is that you are trying to drive your ship when you should fly it. ;)

This game is all about exploration, everyone has their own way through the game so I'm happy we get to see yours!
Love the description of the Nomai statue, "a goat mixed with medusa with a gamer neck' 😂
This 100%, Spoilers will ruin this game.
"I wasn't expecting to find him, I just did!"
Ah, the classic Outer Wilds experience. You just find things you didn't expect to
56:19 - FXAA makes things seem to look a bit more blurry, not sure, but the effect may be worsened for the upload by YT compression.
Also, yeah, other people did die similarly at first, lol
1:02:24 - Fun fact: That ship model is the actual ship model used in the game's alpha! A real antique!

Just finished part 1.
Those 2 hours flew by faster than you flew into Dark Bramble.
Amazing, incredible stuff.
Frothing at the mouth for part 2 👍 👍

Well...
You're doing just fine. Just do your best to remember the controls/tools you have available to you and you will become a pro in no time!
Good Morning Anna on the first day of 2025 with Outer Wilds

- Watch how the autopilot works (aligning trajectory, speeding up, slowing down) - it's a great way to learn basic navigation!
- Target your destination and used "match speed" liberally
- As a rule of thumb, if your speed is 1/10 of your distance, you can stop in time. E.g. if you are 1000m away from a planet going 100m/s, you can stop before crashing.
You can only play this once, so make it count.
Here we go again! Buckle up, fellow explorers o7
Have you ever played the Life is Strange games? I think you'd like them
It takes a bit to get used to the gravity and just how flying works in general.
Starting 2025 out with an amazing game I see. Heck yeah! Happy new year everyone.
Yes, I saw another playthrough do exactly the same thing -- fall into the geyser and die before ever going to space.
Hah you're also following PixelPenguin's
*_[[ Facecam Position Tip: ]]_* Hey, if you want some input on this, I've seen it going well on the right side, close to the bottom, or even middle (I think, plus, middle is better than bottom at being closer to the focus center point). That's if you mind covering some relevant HUD stuff.
Maybe cropping it a bit, too, to more like a rectangle/circle? To your liking, oc, I'm not even that sure about it, heh.
We're going to space!! 🚀
Wow ANOTHER Outer Wilds playthrough starting out?! 2025 is gonna be a good year
That was some extremely competent flying for a new player, no joke. Well done. Super excited to see the rest! I hope the comments behave and don't spoil one iota of the experience for you. Be curious in your journey.
Reminds me of when I first played lol took me so many deaths to figure out what was going on.
I know nothing about this game so I'm excited to see it! Also: which ship is better? This or the Harold? :)
For the record, if you think you'll ever play it yourself, do not watch a playthrough. It's a game that should be played blind.
" The music is saying yes" 🤣🤣
Oh, I struggled with the flight controls a lot. I feel like you've already done better than I ever did because I dropped the game after a few hours, I'm ashamed to admit 😂
Carlsagan42 did the same thing with the geyser.
I do think you're the first person I've seen who acquires the lauch codes, goes up to the platform, and then chooses to die on the planet instead of space
I can't wait for episode 2
1:49:00 holy shit lol. I am amazed. Congratulations!
I have definitely seen someone die in almost exactly the same way as you on the first go 🤣
Great start though maybe listen to the banjo music a bit more before further humming please
Oh noooo…. Where’s the playthrough??? *walks away with a suspiciously playthrough-shaped lump in my throat*

I feel like your character is taller than everyone else.
she look a little like Charlotte Ritchie or it just me? and dont worry about dying it part of this game and the music to lol
Haha its not just you... she gets that allot.
Hello
Thank you for playing this game!
Yes... she is half Greek Cypriot
@@Rajman1138 ok nice, i am greek and living in Cyprus and i didnt know we have a voice actor from here. in her Imdb is written as an english actor tought
"Controller Player"
Oh thank goodness. So many people try to play this game on keyboard/mouse and while it works... it doesn't work as well as on controller. And an already frustrating part of the game for some people gets more frustrating because the kb/m controls there aren't the best.
