In the RAF ,1955, Posted to Singapore Married a Singapore Girl, Started business with relations, Travelled extensively, was Air Traffic Controller Paya Lebar D1 Joint Military Civil Aviation, posted to Middle East Nicosia International similar job 3 yrs, then Back to Singapore CHANGI 67 till 70,Then went back several times X 6 as Ships Purchasing Officer, also own business importing from Indonesia, HK, Surabaya, & Malaysia, Then went to live in NZ. Singapore was great, THE greatest part of my life, I loved every moment of it,worked hard and made a good living. Times have changed now however,I did witness the vast changes brought about by Premier Lee Kuan Yew, a man I admired for his energy and adaption of a scruffy, poverty stricken Colony to become the envy of many so called 1st world nations.Such opportunities still offer an enterprising individual a good income. It's all about trying hard and relying upon ones own abilities. My late Bro-in law did the same and made his life worthwhile, thanks to the opportunities available in Singapore.

Hi. Good to know about the experience of living and thanks indeed for sharing about the ex-pat's life in Singapore. In my opinion, it all depends on nationality and social status, and the relationships with the other southeast Asian ex-pats from Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma) so on may not really be valued as Americans, British and Japanese. After all, it is all about a matter of which part of the world you come from. Anyway, it's very very safe to live in Singapore. I loved staying and working in Singapore.

    • @ExpatsEverywhere

Sebastion,You may find that if you add ANY of the martial Arts to your proposal relating to Fitness training, you'd be welcomed, although generally speaking, there are a large number of Martial Disciplines in any Asian nation therefore ,you'd have to offer something outstanding.
Also, fitness is a common way of life in most Asian nations, rather than propping up bars, sitting for hours smoking or watching TV (a typical Western Problem) in Singapore, there are many areas where one may find fitness freaks, McRitchie Reservoir area for example, Gardens by the Bay etc., and around Changi where beaches are a good start, best go and have a look and make up your mind,do a little research, you wont regret it. Best Wishes.

Good question. ua-cam.com/video/NkFQR5hfbNE/v-deo.html Generally, an expat is someone living indefinitely somewhere or for a specific amount of time. Immigrants would be leaving their home country for a new country on a permanent basis. By simple definition, they're the same because they've both left their home country. In more modern times, expats have higher salary packages. Check out that video for a more colorful answer.

It's certainly more common for young people, but that's the same as Europe. There is also the occasion where someone will rent a room from a family.
