Thanks for taking the time to record and share this video. Becky answered many of the different questions I had regarding living and working in Vietnam.

Besides ESL teaching there is plenty of work for native speakers. Copy editors and proof readers can finds jobs, both online and onsite. There is also the recording of English language text books and and other material for language learning. There is the dubbing of films into English. There are also preparation classes for people going on job interviews, wanting to get visas, or applying for scholarships. English is the international language, especially in business. So local and foreign companies will need help with contracts, documents, brochures, manuals, and even menus. So it's not hard finding work outside the classroom.
Related to ESL teaching but not mentioned in the video is the Asian expat market for students. Japanese and Korean business people also often want to improve their English and will pay quite well for private or small classes. You can also organize small classes in your home for either locals or Asian expats. If you have particular business or tech skills you can organize ESP (English Specific Program) classes.
As for how much money you will make I think the speaker is a little high with her 20-25 dollar an hour. You are more likely to start at around 12-15 dollars at private learning centers. You can get more working at companies or doing private classes.
I used to do copy editing for The Saigon Times Weekly back when they first started. I also worked with The Text Book and Teachings Aids Company to make the cassette tapes for use in government school English classes from grade 6 to 12 and for broadcast over the radio to the remote areas. I've taught at government schools, private schools, government, local and foreign companies and now I just do some private classes at my home.

thanks for the info, it's always good to know there are other options out there. Editing/proofreading is always good work to pick :-)

I went to Chico state. Wish I'd never left Chico. This is very interesting. Thanks for making it. I want to try Vietnam as a retiree so I'm researching other people's experiences. Thanks again.

Thank you for commenting. Vietnam as a retiree looks pretty easy. You don't need much to be very comfortable there.

Thank you. This was one of our very first interviews that we ever conducted. Needless to say, we evolved and are continuing to evolve. - Josh & Kalie

As an animal lover, I worry what we may see in some countries, like Vietnam and Indonesia. Lots of footage online of cats and dogs, in cages, and being cooked and eaten.

hi I wonder if there are any jobs for expats except teaching English?

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
