Agree with you on the long working hours. So hard to change the culture from working long hours to shorter hours with higher efficiency and effectiveness

Simon was advocating a 35 hour week and a "work smarter" ethic for Singaporeans. I don't doubt that given the right circumstances anyone including Singaporeans would love to work less and have more quality time. Being a native Canadian, I assume he is referring to his work experiences there as a comparison . From 2019 IMF statistics , Singapore has a nominal per capita GDP of USD $64k and Canada $46k. You can say that Canada, although not spectacular, has a reasonably high income without the having to work hard. What must be a most salient point is that Sinagapore rose from an impoverished nation to one of the wealthiest in one generation WITHOUT ANY NATURAL RESOURCE. Canada, on the other hand is rich in minerals, rare earth elements and coal that contributed to almost USD 100 Billion in export revenue annually. It'll be an interesting discussion to see what the work ethic would be in Canada if they were depleted of all natural resources and wish to maintain their financial status. The bottom line for me is that hard work pays off. Well done Singapore. All the kudos to you and it's only resource- hard working people and progressive thinking government !
Let this be a lesson for me! I should’ve been more narrow in my complaint because it was targeted very specifically towards my industry, and my own field of expertise - not to the broader Singapore workforce as a whole. Interestingly, working smarter than other nearby countries is what, in my opinion, set Singapore apart from them and made it such a success story! Efficiency in everything, at every level, with great optimizations of time, methods and energy! I just wish my particular industry would catch-up and cash-in on those principles, the way it does in Canada. One love, I meant no offense whatsoever.
@@SimonSaysCanada No offence taken or directed at you. I perceive that you are a fair minded person and gave your opinion without malice. Singaporeans are not the best at everything and I have no doubt that you can improve their efficiency in your field of expertise. They could enjoy more leisure time as a result. I was hoping that my comment would assist you to gain a better understanding of their psyche as they have been trained from young to work hard to overcome their lack of natural resources and that the world does not owe them a living. I'm very surprised you'd rather melt in sg then enjoy winter in Canada. It has been a dream to play in the snow without sweating.. unfortunately I've still yet to experience snow.
It’s one of those things where the first snowfall is beautiful and magical - but by the time February comes around, it’s all brown a disgusting with car pollution, rough calcium salt and sand for road maintenance (so cars don’t skid on ice), with a thick layer of freezing-cold brown water under the snow that won’t freeze because of the calcium salt… At least in the city! Plus, it’s cold. Like, “it will kill you in two hours” cold! 🥶

@@SimonSaysCanada Good to know. Enjoy your stay in Singapore. When Covid ends, you will want to go on holidays throughout Asia. It's just so convenient to fly to and fro Changi Airport. 😁
Yeap, long work hours is the main complaint I often hear from expats. Competitiveness & drive are common values especially among the Chinese. Not so much in other races. The Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is a workaholic and expects his team to be no less. This government is one that strives for nothing less than perfection. They give out lots of government handouts, but only to people who work, not for jobless freeloaders. Which is why you never see homeless, jobless beggars on the Singapore streets. Yes, working hours may be long, but compared to many other countries, we have lots of public holidays , thanks to the various festivals of our multi racial society ! 👍
There is certainly value in hard work. Narrowing things down to my particular field and industry, which is not at all manual labour (I sit at a computer all day), working smarter and squeeze the most brain power out of each hour is what makes a difference. Less hours total, but each yielding much more quality results. That’s how we’ve been doing it in Canada anyways!

White person moving to another country is called expat. Non white person moving to another country is called immigrant. Just start by saying, as an immigrant... - Miriam Webster's meaning - a person who comes to live permanently / temporarily in a foreign country.
In my experience, people moving to a place refer to themselves as expats, wheras people from that place refer to them as immigrants. My hometown has it’s share of French (and yes, white) immigrants. They call themselves expats. You can refer to me as immigrant, no problem! 😁

Well, it’s like any job: find an opening that matches your particular skillset, apply for it, and hope for the best! 😎
Full watched! Good content.keep sharing...
Thank you for watching, appreciate it!
Quebecois? Maybe not...didn't sound like it.lol. Kinda figured you might be Canadian from your Pulau Ubin vlog.....your mention of lazing in a hammock by the quiet beach, sounded kinda Canadian eh? And the P Ubin vid ( chanced upon it and you!) looked suspiciously cool as Canadian!
100% Quebecois from Quebec City, capital pf the province of Quebec! Seems
generally easier to go as “Canadian” while oversees though.
@@SimonSaysCanada Ah..Quebec City. Had been looking forward to my first trip there and Montreal (would be 2nd time) for vacation end Jun/ beginning July...standing on Terrasse Dufferin, looking out into old Quebec and St Lawrence river, taking the ferry across, zipping across Montmorency Falls, etc...only to have COVID19 scupper my plans. Oh well, hopefully next year.
If you want to see Quebec’s true face, go visit in January-February... Winterfell has nothing on Quebec City!
@@SimonSaysCanada not sure that would even be possible now...COVID19 case numbers are on a steep rise across Canada ( except the Atlantic provinces). We may end up with another lockdown. Wish I were in Singapore like you....where it is safer!
Well... Free, with lots of restrictions!
U the best Simonnn what work do u do
It’s a mystery!
I like your video.
Thanks! Try another - I may grow on you 😊
That's a lizard, although Gecko comes from the lizard family, Gecko are minimum 3 times larger and they give you a nasty bite
Hemidactylus frenatus - native South-East Asian gecko sub-species. These don’t get very big.
Ya its the kia su (afraid of losing out) syndrome. Actually to be fair, its the company culture and Peer pressure. You can start tje ball rolling to go back on the dot... If you're the Top guys. Hmmn but u still get watsapp, emails, calls from the mobile. Throw away that mobile man..... Just Joking
Interesting. Leaving at 5 today, 4:30 next week. We’ll see if we can start a movement...
Honestly u should try go get background volume down a bit since its a lil hard to hear you. Its 11 months old video so u might fix that already, just letting u know
🤷♂️
You be the judge! Try this one, see if I got any better! 😎

So big big house .
It’s very cramped, by Canadian standards 😅
welcome to Vietnam, bro!
It’s great to be in Marina Bay, Vietnam! (In all seriousness, I do wish I could travel to Vietnam though!)
Great video! And yeah we work too much :(
Hard work is good, but depending on the nature of that work, it sometimes can have diminishing returns.
Cinematics, drone shots are great ..
Is the sg govt allowing the e pass holders to come bk to sg from India now ?? Any idea ?
I imagine they would, prvided you get the permit, register your drone, fly in designated areas - which are fairly limited and severely enforced, from what I can tell
Firmly believe in work to live only, not vice versa.
Agreed.
Singapore food is best.
It is really really really good!
If you could share 6:35min onwards with our government, I would support you!
I am not confident enough in my litigation skills to want to take on the government!
Sana balang araw Maka Punta ako dito
Could not have said id better myself
great
Thanks!
White person moving to another country is called expat. Non white person moving to another country is called immigrant. Just start by saying, as an immigrant... -
Miriam Webster's meaning - a person who comes to live permanently / temporarily in a foreign country.
In my experience, people moving to a place refer to themselves as expats, wheras people from that place refer to them as immigrants.
My hometown has it’s share of French (and yes, white) immigrants. They call themselves expats.
You can refer to me as immigrant, no problem! 😁
Expat is for temporary resident, like a couple of years. Give immigrant to people who actually want to live and retire there.
Im Sporean and i cant even take the Chiken feet lol 😂
My grandma used to make chicken heart soup back when I was a young lad. I guess I got the tolerance for “choice cuts” 😁
I know work my mum siad to me my car in singapore is like two car in usa
More like 3, perhaps 4!
I schooled at U of T in Canada and I just loved Montreal!!!
Nobody is perfect! 😛
If you want to know more nice eating places, let me know
Definately. I am looking for the best Laksa and best Chili Crab, preferably outside of tourist spots
@@SimonSaysCanada Walk about 15 minutes from Rochor MRT to Sungei Road Laksa. My favourite chilli crab is at Jumbo but a bit expensive. Get back to you later on other places later.
@@SimonSaysCanada try ming kitchen. There are a few branches all over Singapore. ua-cam.com/video/NOvIM7LnadQ/v-deo.html
I'm Canadian too and I hate this country, too much taxes how does that relate to singapore?
High heat, low-taxes!
Expat is always looked up upon by Singaporean
They shouldn’t - I find that lots of expats are terrible people, to be honest...
@@SimonSaysCanada oh really? I know few expats who are so busy dating different guys and girls😂
Exactly!!
I heard there's some kind of "hierarchy" among expats based on financial status. It's like an open secret and expats know it but don't talk about it for fear of something something? Is that true? 🤔
I know SOME expats look down on Singaporeans (mostly French, in my experience🇫🇷 but these guys look down upon everybody, let’s face it 😄) but not all. In fact, a lot of expats would like nothing more than to make local friends and mingle a bit more, but don’t know how to go about it.
