P.S. The Tescos roundabout would be good for this, as that lane system is screwed :) Also, great idea to create these videos to help make it clear to those that struggle! Well done sir!!
I would use the left hand lane for B6050 W to B6050 E - the reason is drivers using the outer lane on A61 N->S would join after a driver has passed them and then they would be cutting in front of them to get of for the B6050 - as not everyone indicates and it isn't clear if this is straight on or slightly to the right even indications would give the wrong impression. I agree with you about the markings on B6050 E - shouldn't both say straight on. I have noticed a lot of major roundabouts say straight on for the right hand turn mainly the motorway ones - without sat nav it would be hard if you were relying on signs and marking alone.
Maybe I'm getting old, but "back in my day" (I'm 40 now omg!) we had to learn the highway code, and the basic rules are if 2 lanes, left lane is for going left and straight on, right lane is for going right or back on yourself. the signs shouldn't be needed except for special circumstances. However, I agree there should always be a big green sign showing the exits and the entry lanes. As without that, if you're approaching a roundabout you don't know, you've no idea how many lanes there will be, how many exits there are, which exit you need to take, and therefore which lane to take... , unless you can see the floormarkings whcih you rightly point out, you can rarely see if it's busy :( Sat navs have started to help, but they often just say "Take the 2nd exit", which could be a bit left, it could be straight on, it could be right, etc. I love the sat navs that give a real map of the roundabout, so that you can see all of the exits and which you need to take. You can then work out which lane you should be in. But even better if it tells you which lane too... like the old Nokia Ovi maps... oh how I miss that! :) Anyway rant over, hope that is useful/interesting/funny :)
hate this roundabout, I wish the council would put traffic lights on it like they have every other roundabout in Chez! I guess they're waiting for an accident before they decide to make signage and road markings clearer. It's the first thing a learner driver comes to on their driving test, could be made so much safer!
Try walking over these junctions. the traffic is so fast you are lucky to make it across alive.. Would recommend council put a 20 mile an hour speed limit or less on it, might allow for some thinking time for drivers and pedestrians alike.
There are large signs on aproach on all entries. My issue is it turns from a two to a three lane. If you look at the signs it tells you the exit. There are two lanes from Dunston because its either a right or a left turn. Straight ahead is the same B road. Dunston and Brimington are both B6050 the same road. Also some people don't know Sheffield Road ends near approach and is Station Road, the same road to Whittington and Eckington. Us old folk remember roads before the bypass.
It’s crazy this round about , about time they installed traffic lights , you are spot on about the lanes 🙄, the middle lane now coming from chesterfield where Lidl is , is always empty, congestion of traffic, who came up with the new lanes ???
Brilliant roundabout. 70mph national speed limit but 25 works best imo. Pretty symmetrical - opposites are same. Great sightlines. I teach driving on here and my scariest moment was someone who wouldn't go faster than 8mph on it on her first go. Edit: shared to a "why Americans don't like roundabouts" YT video comments.
Thank you so we On the road (B6057) If I want to go to the third or fourth exit and I am in the middle, should the signal be directed to the right when approaching the roundabout?

I have been a passenger of this roundabout for 20+ years, now I am learning to drive with this roundabout being THE problem roundabout on my theory test and now I’m doing my practical lessons and I’m not looking forward to tackling this… situation
Traffic lights, Would be a Good Idea and a lot Safer, it is Like Playing Russian Roulette Every Time you Enter that Roundabout it's a Accident Waiting to Happen.
@RandomlySet only problem is people might look at this video for training purposes if they are taking the driving test in chesterfield so in all honesty if it was me I would either do a revised video or remove it as it is now inaccurate as the layout has recently changed
cassieiscool1998 haha, I'm working my way through the country town by town. Do I need to do the blob of paint roundabouts? Imagine trying to decipher the "Magic Roundabout" in Swindon lol
There are two flaws with the roundabout. I've discovered why the roundabout causes so many issues, and believe it or not, those living in in Chesterfield are the ones who make the mistakes. The Council really needs to do a bit of research and observations. It's one of those things... Once you see the flaws it's a light bulb 💡 moment
Agreed. Although, in my opinion, there was never any real need to traffic light either Tesco or Hornsbridge as the whole purpose of a roundabout is to not have a traffic light system. (although that's another debate). Due to the speed you can carry to this roundabout, the size of it, and the camber of the road, it can be difficult for some people to enter it - especially from Dunston where you cannot see what is coming up from the roundabout.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING AT ANY TIME WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED!
It's the safest way 😬
Thanks for the video! I come from Dunston to Brimington everyday, and I've tried both lanes... I am lucky to be alive.
P.S. The Tescos roundabout would be good for this, as that lane system is screwed :)

This was really helpful, thank you

Please can you do a more upto date video of this roundabout now the marking have been updated
Thank you so much for this video. So helpful for people learning to drive in Chesterfield as Whit Moor is such an awkward roundabout to learn!
Eevee not a problem at all. Glad it helped.

What is the structure in the Center?…

Will you be able to do an updated video, now they have put new road markings on. :)
I'll take a look 👍

This is crazy.
Similar to the magic roundabout in Swindon.
The middle Lane from whittington moor says a61 the right hand lane is for whittington hill and brim or back to whittington moor ?
No, right hand lane is for Brimington Road and A61(S).
Please do the other roundabouts in Chesterfield, these are brill!
Haha, thanks. I have had requests for Markham Roundabout and also West Barrs, so hopefully will get around to them.
i have to come from dunston every week in rush hour
This is THE dead mans roundabout in Chesterfield. @Toby Perkins - please make this one safer and easier to navigate.
it don't help that half way round it splits into two lanes ...its too easy to drift into wrong one

This roundabout has now changed
I know... This video is also 7 years old! What do you expect me to do,, travel back in time and edit it so it's correct for today?

@@newadventures4035 well fell free to do a revised video then 👍
@RandomlySet but I'm not the one who posted one in the first place stating HOW TO USE CORRECTLY but now is incorrect. That's all I'm saying
Will eventually have covered every roundabout in chesterfield at this rate, tesco one next?;) haha
cassieiscool1998 taking requests lol.... Someone has asked for Markham roundabout and also West Bars
RandomlySet just do every roundabout until youve done them all😂

RandomlySet high five if you can do the magic roundabout. Maybe if everyone drove like my mum? Avoids bypasses and roundabouts - seems a good idea
RandomlySet or if you find yourself on the magic roundabout just close your eyes and go for it!;)
I was in a crash on that roundabout on 30th October.
Deffinately incorrect advise. The roundabout has two main flaws.
@@seeking4U it has recently changed

The road layout has been changed recently so this video is now incorrect.
When? I've not been around it for about 2 months, so must be very recent changes
@@RandomlySet Yes only a few weeks old. Derbyshire Times did a video on it with a driving instructor explaining the changes to the road layout.
Is it on UA-cam. I would really like to see it if available @@letter1014

It only needs lights if you are a complete idiot who needs to retake their test.
I Hate it so!!!
