Just failed my first test straight out of the test centre because of a lapse in concentration at a roundabout! Rest of the drive was near perfect and the examiner told me that! Hard one to take definitely but trying to look forward. Good luck to anyone taking their test soon and learn to take the positives if you don’t quite pass 😀
I was a student when I was in Colchester some years ago and I never realised how confusing the roads were when I was there. However, I heard from friends and acquaintances who owned cars complain about how much they hated driving on roundabouts near the campus. I am learning to drive in another part of the country at the moment and started looking at Richard's videos and demonstrations and I can truly say I completely agree with what my fellow classmates said about Colchester being a city-planning chaos as it has roundabout after roundabout, especially the road near the Greenstead Tesco, pure nightmare for learner driver, I could imagine. Your videos have been helping me a lot in easing the anxiety that I have when it comes to driving. I wish I had an instructor like you who is so understanding of learner drivers' nerves. Thanks bro and keep up the good work.
This has been a big help. I don’t trust people to indicate when they should so I sometimes miss safe opportunities to go because I worry that the person might be turning. Thanks for the clarification
Hey Richard, roundabouts do freak me out after had some dangerous mistakes made hence I have been watching so many roundabout videos and this is the one! Very clever concept! you really are one level above the other video creators! thanks for all this free help!!! You are an amazing human being!!!!
Same here😢. I just hate the car, roundabouts and doubt my ability to drive 😢😢😢😢 my exam in a 2 weeks, I had so many lessons but still struggling with roundabouts. I either do it very slowly and everyone honk me , either I try to jump into the gap between traffic faster and stack ...and everyone honk me even longer 😢😢😢
I had my license 5 month and now I own a car but I can't stop watching your driving instructions. Every day I watch one of video and refresh my learning . These videos will never be old for me .great effort in bringing these videos ❤
This is by far the most useful video I have come across. I've infuriated a few instructors by not understanding what they are saying. I really needed someone to just show me like this. Makes perfect sense now! It can all be going too quick to fully understand when you're in the car
Everything you showing is common things present in youtube videos. But the way you put in you video is making a big difference for learners like me... Keep going. Thanks a lot...
Best pieces of advice I've been given. Your clutch is not a break. Look for gaps not traffic. And also cars merging into the roundabout in the lane just to the right of you are NOT blockers because you can't see if a car is already coming and you can't see over the car in your next lane. Obviously it was condensed but I needed to explain.
I’ve held a driving’s license in the United States for five years, driving both auto and manual, and your videos are still useful for me. Driving isn’t just a skill you learn once and never improve on (like most think). We can constantly improve on this skill. Thanks for your content
this is SO helpful thank you and much needed. im very indecisive, i'd need to plan half an hour before making a decision lol. if i think i can go, i'll be wrong and then my instructor will have to step in and brake sharply if i think i need to stop, i'll be wrong and then my instructor will ask why i've stopped when its perfectly fine
This is a common problem, I find a good solution is not to say when my pupil should go, I give a commentary on what I can see so my pupil can learn how I read the roundabout. It's up to my pupil when they want to go, but I will stop them if it's unsafe.
I can’t tell you how grateful i am for your videos! You are so precise with your information, explain it well and appreciate your filming style. I can that little bit feel more confidence going into my lessons now :)
I passed my driving test on the 30th of Dec but I still go through your lists because your videos are so entertaining, informative and helpful. Good work and huge thanks, your videos helped me a ton, even though I'm from Finland :)
Thanks for taking your precious time out to do these amazing videos. I am a Driving Instructor and I always send your links to my pupils and when they see and view what you have to say. I get really good results. I agree with the other comments people have made and yes you are adorable ☺️
Hi Richard, thank you so much for all your videos, I passed my test today and your videos have been a huge help and taught me so many things that my instructor never did :)
my potential instructor just tells me when to go but not guide me how to observe the traffic at roundabout, after watching your video feel much better now. Thanks Richard for all your videos which I benefited greatly.
Great video! I'd like to point out a danger moment at 8:16 where there's queue of vehicles in the outer lane of the roundabout, none of them signalling right, so it looks safe to go. You can't see, at this point, that there's a black Audi waiting to come out from the middle lane of the road on the right - but it's blocked by the queue in front of it. However, at 8:17 a silver Audi in the queue stops to let the black Audi in - and it comes through quite briskly, heading for the inner lane of the roundabout and going around to the right (but not signalling right, as far as I could see!). So, had you moved out, at 8:16, going into the middle lane to turn right around the roundabout, you'd be going straight in front of the black Audi. Bang! Here's what I think about it: NEVER do what the silver Audi does, and stop to let someone in from the left, who doesn't have priority. Also, never do what the black Audi does, and take advantage of this tempting invitation, to move out through priority traffic. Apart from the risk I've just explained, I doubt the black Audi driver could see clearly past the vehicles in the outer-lane queue, to see anything coming around the inner lane he's driving into! I'm only a learner driver, but this seems like common sense to me. Does anyone agree?
Sorry but I disagree, it's good driving from the silver Audi to not block the entrance to the roundabout. That queue can be there for 2 hours sometimes! You're expected to leave entrances and exits clear when in queueing traffic. I understand your point about the danger but that's the responsibility of the driver about to enter the roundabout, you should be fully expecting the black audi to come from between the cars in traffic. If you can't see very far you should do what's known as peeping and creeping into the junction to check it's safe. There will be a video on that soon. But in the case of the black audi, I would have just gone before I could see the black audi as I had time to make it. By the time you see the black audi you don't have time so will have to wait. If you think about it, you're both starting from stationary and going at the same time so you should have time. New drivers who can only accelerate very slowly will struggle with this but that's why it's important to learn to accelerate well before attempting big junctions.
@@ConquerDriving Thanks for your very thoughtful comment! I stand corrected - what you say makes perfect sense; especially the point that if you decide to go before seeing the black Audi you should be safe, because both cars are starting from stationary, and you're well ahead of him. Or her. I'll keep in mind the point about letting people through a queue; I've not yet had that experience on a busy roundabout, but it's bound to crop up sometime - possibly, when I'm taking my test!

Always remember, you are in control of your car, not the person behind you or next to you. They are responsible for their own car, not yours. You only go when you know it is safe for you to move. If the car behind you beeps, then you go and cause an accident, you will be ruled at fault for the damage. Remember you are in control of the vehicle, no one else.

It's so strange seeing people using indicators at roundabouts it would be so helpful if that was the norm. This is really great to watch since in my country our roads are the same as this but on a much smaller scale.
These videos are really useful. I've been driving for 15 years and I've got a good, safe driving record. I'm about to start lessons for a lorry licence, so I need to drive the textbook way and lose my bad habits! I'll be watching more of your videos.

Great video! This really helped, even though I can't drive. I cycled to school before it was closed again (smh my head) and there is a fairly busy roundabout that I have to cross on my way to school. Now I know when to set off better!

Thank you for this amazing video about roundabouts Richard, they were always a problem for me. It took a very long time for me to get good at them. I passed my driving test yesterday Your advice about slowing down early and going into 2nd gear a few seconds in advance really helped. It was also very nice to see you talk about blockers
Hi Richard, I just passed my driving test today. Thank you very much, I watch your video lots of time and it's help me lots. I hope you are well and always healty and happy :)
I have just started driving lessons again after a five year break. Great to have these videos this time around and fingers crossed I pass my next test!
Thanks, this was really helpful, learner driver from Australia. Getting out and showing the cars coming and looking at the positioning was what I really need to see :)
Judging which way people are going on roundabouts would be far easier if they signalled (which they almost never do). Though this video has helped I still don't like roundabouts. Apart from the 'which way are they going/are they going to cross my intended path' thing I am also concerned about side-swiping anything to my sides. I'm OK with small roundabouts but big busy ones I hate.
@@ConquerDriving Yes there is that, but I still hate them. Last year I returned to a car after 23 years on motorcycles, and on a bike I was fine. But not so in a car. It's something to do with a car being wider and with far less visibility. And less manouverable.
I’ve got my test tomorrow afternoon in Birmingham. Your vids are really helping me to prepare and be more relaxed because I feel like I know what to do now.
in one of my recent lessons i kept approaching roundabouts too fast which obviously meant i didn't have enough time to make decisions, and i even ended up stopping in the middle of a roundabout at one point... it was a disaster. this video is exactly what i needed to help me at roundabouts, thank you so much!! otherwise my instructor thinks i'm doing extremely well, and am on the path to passing next month, fingers crossed!!

This was the most helpful video on roundabouts for me! i have my 2nd test tomorrow morning and i have to go on some big roundabouts and i could never get my head around when to go, but this has just clicked it in my brain! thanks!
I'm not a driver yet but my test is so close, thinking about it makes me so anxious that I can't sleep but your videos make me so confident and like I can drive without being in the car, which is good as my main issue when driving is my confidence 😊
Coming back to this video before my test tomorrow to judge how people with no indicators on are going to do the roundabout. Wise words there - "If you're not sure, don't go." The exact reason I failed my last test. Going to just keep this in mind, be cautious but not to the point of hesitating when there's gaps, and hopefully I'll ace it!
Now that I watched the rest of the video.. Seems like I got unlucky with my instructor. Had a really good drive other than the fail, which was when a guy came around the roundabout without his indicators on. He didn't even use the dual controls and I stopped by myself because I noticed it. Guess I got a bad draw, but I will definitely do better next time
If it looks obvious that they are coming round and there isn't enough time, then you would be expected to wait. The example I mentioned was on a mini roundabout with no clue of a driver's intentions other than the indicator. Good luck with your test tomorrow!
Helpful vid, thanks! The main thing I struggle with here is anticipating the "shields" - I find it hard to look both left and right when approaching a mini or just a small roundabout like these shown on the video...
What makes these videos perfect is that I live in Colchester , barn hall to be exact 😂Richard drives through a lot in his videos , thankyou so much for all the help , I have my driving test this Wednesday 🎉🎉
I’ve got my test in 5 days from when I comment this, my past 2 mock tests I’ve got 3 minors and 1 minor respectively but I got 1 major on each, both just misjudging on a roundabout. This video has taught me to be patient, I used to try to go for the very small gaps because that’s what my mum and dad would do, but realise that it’s better to hold people up for 10 seconds, than to risk endangering other people’s lives. I’ll be back here on my test day to tell you how it goes.
I passed my test now. The decisions video was a good help. But more. Its the nuances. Something i found difficult to prepare for was irregular box junctions or junctions where you l really need to check the next junction for traffic before you can go otherwise you risk getting stuck on a box
I cant believe you got out and filmed just to teach people you are adorable

This is a very useful video! Once a car behind me beep me when I took a bit long to judge at roundabout, It was very stressful. This video let me know it’s right thing to take time to make sure it’s safe to get into roundabout. Your videos are always the good supports and help for beginners. Thanks
10:20 Damn those three roundabouts seem so complicated!!! Thank god I didn’t have that on my practical test last year!
Do you not always get a roundabout on a test?
Truss when I am going left my instructor keep saying I'm entering wrong lane or not giving Cars room enough on a roundabout it's so annoying 😂
That roundabout is right near the test centre. Quite unlikely to avoid it. I certainly had it and so did the Mrs
@@mattcampbell5941 i had one of those 4-5 lane roundabouts on my test. I absolutely hate those. First time i ever managed to get it right was on my test. Felt amazing aha. driving 2 years now and i still dislike any roundabout though tbh
Thanks so much for your good jab..am in France from sierra leone West Africa..am a new driver... your classes helping me greatly ..now am comfortable on the road..God bless you an your family
I just passed my driving test after my 4th attempt. Your videos really helped keep me calm. I had your advice playing in my head and I’ve never felt better on the road. Thank you for your help 🙏
This is the best video for me to watch just before my mock driving test. Thanks so much.
This Man is the best instructor here 👍👍👍👍👍
I watched most of your video during last week and 7hrs on my Sunday the day before test.
I'm pleased to say, due to your greatly detailed videos and break downs of each Q&A. Was an absolute blessing, I can't thankyou enough!! Greatly appreciated, all your editing and time haven't gone unnoticed. Anybody would be super lucky to have you as their personal teacher! Again thankyou!!!
That's great to hear, thank you. Congratulations on passing!
Got my test in 2 days... I'm watching all your videos to calm me down!
I really like your approach with that camera because we can see when you look at the mirrors and on the road on different directions. It helps so much to understand your explanation about the decision making! Thank you for all those efforts!
I think you explain everything so well so everybody can understand what you need to do especially when you talk about gear changes it's been a massive help thankyou so much ☺️👍
You're the best instructor on youtube I know of. Props to you mate.
Thank you for explaining everything so clearly! My test is coming up and I’m focusing on targeting those weak areas like hesitation on roundabouts, I cannot stress how helpful this was
This channel is a gem! I came accross these videos only few days ago while seeking for some help online since I couldnt get much of my own instructor explanations - your videos have helped me a lot.
Please keep the content
You are saving me with these videos ❤ even 3 years later
Thank you so much you are so calm and concise with your information you are putting across, love the way you've broken everything down ❤️
Great video! This really helped, even though I can't drive. I cycled to school before it was closed again (smh my head) and there is a fairly busy roundabout that I have to cross on my way to school. Now I know when to set off better!
Your videos are extremely helpful for people who are new to the UK!!!
Your concept of shield in roundabout is absolutely lovely. Will definitely practise this in my next drive!
I’ve always had a problem with the decision when to go this was incredibly helpful now it’s much more clear to me thank you
This video was really helpful, especially your 'shielding' technique - thank you! I have my test tomorrow, second attempt, and very apprehensive about failing again.
Good luck with your test!
@@ConquerDriving thank you! I passed with just two minors! ☺️
I must say..you are the best in all the videos about driving.. explainations on point, your practical illustrations the best ..no day pass without watching your vids..
Thank you for this amazing video about roundabouts Richard, they were always a problem for me. It took a very long time for me to get good at them. I passed my driving test yesterday
Your advice about slowing down early and going into 2nd gear a few seconds in advance really helped.
It was also very nice to see you talk about blockers
The best instructor ever in UK.....
Brilliant explanation! Please make more of these videos with upto date versions as well. Thank you.
Hi Richard, I just passed my driving test today. Thank you very much, I watch your video lots of time and it's help me lots. I hope you are well and always healty and happy :)
That's great news, thank you and congratulations on passing!
I have just started driving lessons again after a five year break. Great to have these videos this time around and fingers crossed I pass my next test!
Thanks, this was really helpful, learner driver from Australia. Getting out and showing the cars coming and looking at the positioning was what I really need to see :)
just passed my test and watched this the morning before thanks again for all your help :)
Congratulations on passing!
Generally it's easier on bigger roundabouts as the exits are much further apart so you get more time to see where people are going.
Good luck!
@@ConquerDriving thank you!
I’ve got my test tomorrow and I’m so nervous my driving instructor hasn’t been very helpful but your videos are really helping my confidence, fingers crossed for tomorrow! Thank you for these videos 😊
I am new to manual car...driving automatic car since last 7 years... Tomorrow is my 3rd lesson...I’ve been watching your videos since last week... and learnt a lot...You are such an awesome instructor 👍🏻...Thank you very much for these instructional videos..
thank you very much for your vedios beacuse they rally helped me to pass my exam , now iam a new driver but iam still watching your vedios you are a fantastic teacher 🥰💞
Believe in yourself and do things at your own pace. I wish you the best of luck with your test.
Your amazing instructor wow
Keep it up I need all the tips from u
Like your patients
You explained this brilliantly.
Helpful vid, thanks! The main thing I struggle with here is anticipating the "shields" - I find it hard to look both left and right when approaching a mini or just a small roundabout like these shown on the video...
It does take practise, most people struggle with this at first.
3:50 Great demonstration with gopro attached to your head so beginners can understand where you look at!
Thank you very much for your video. You have been giving hopes to me as a learner. Wish you well and blessed always.
This was very helpful to understand signalling at roundabouts. Thank you!
Very helpful. Helps make the right decision everyday.
You're welcome.
I love your videos, they're crystal clear . Even the right hand drive is in sync with the system in india. Grateful to you mate👌
Thank you.
Thank u so much this is where I keep failing !! 3rd time lucky 😫 another test monday
Good luck on Monday.
Thank u I'm going over all Ur stuff watch d this one about 10 times helped me so much already thank u
What makes these videos perfect is that I live in Colchester , barn hall to be exact 😂Richard drives through a lot in his videos , thankyou so much for all the help , I have my driving test this Wednesday 🎉🎉
Good luck!
Good luck!
@@ConquerDriving nvm lol they cancelled it because they gave me the wrong time and blamed it on me 😂😭
These videos are so helpful! Great content delivered to perfection 👌
I passed today and this video (along with many others) really really helped with my hesitation at roundabouts!! Thank you so much!
That's fantastic news, congratulations on passing!
I passed my test now. The decisions video was a good help. But more. Its the nuances. Something i found difficult to prepare for was irregular box junctions or junctions where you l really need to check the next junction for traffic before you can go otherwise you risk getting stuck on a box
Congratulations on passing, I have a yellow box junction video coming soon.
Your advice is very useful and especially to increase the confidence of students
This is what I needed before lockdown I had a problem with this and was looking for a video thanks 🙏
Thank you I passed my exam because of your videos, again thank you 💙
Congratulations on passing!
I just passed today, your videos where a huge help, especially this one.
Congratulations on passing!
You are an angel, thank you for your time and effort to teach some one dum like me.
