This way is much easier than in Spain. If everyone follows the indication signs before roundabouts and place the vehicle in the correct lane, it will work nicely. Be careful if you drive in Spain cause drivers don't care about the position before entering roundabouts, so they leave them from whichever lane!! Thank you for these driving lessons!!
Very informative video mate. I just have a few questions about roundabouts. Now, what if for example there a lot of traffic & you're not able to see any road marking signs before choosing a lane due to heavy traffic plus you're not familiar with the area, plus all the road sinage on side of the road is blocked from view by HGV lorries, how are drivers supposed to know which lane to choose? I know practice makes it easier, & knowing your route before driving is essential, also what if drivers need to travel when visibility is low for instance at night, or what if the road sinage is blocked from view by branches from trees which i have seen quite often around London, especially on small dual carraigeways, also some sinage such as road markings on lanes is hardly even visable due to wear & tear from cars driving over it so many times, i have seen this quite a lot on Londons roads quite often too. Having said all this, how do people expect new drivers to pass their tests on UK's terrible roads with terrible road sinage & sometimes low visibiility due to heavy traffic, or being obscured by branches or road markings faded due to wear & tear, let alone having to do tests on the roads with the most impatient drivers on the roads? Couse, it depends which city you're in, i'm bang in the centre of London, one of the most hated roads to drive around in. I know for certain that road signage position in the UK isn't the greatest, it could be done better by placing them in better positions, i've driven down some roads where road signs didn't even make any sense at all.
What would make this video perfect is if your voice over instructions explained when you signal. As I'm still a bit confused on signalling right when turning right on there big spiral roundabouts 👍
Hi Travis Can you please create some videos on redmoor roundabout? From different angles please, and mostly for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th exits. There are not many videos on complex roundabouts or the ones where a lane is to be changed quickly and at the right time.
At 3.45 you’re in the right lane of two to enter the roundabout for the third exit. When you enter the roundabout there are 3 lanes. You go to the right most lane hugging the round about (which is obviously correct) There are no guide lines sending you to that lane and none of the signs in the lead up tell you to go into that one. As a new driver how would I know that lane is for me and not say the middle of the 3 lanes?
I try my best to be in the right lane in advance. I do wish there were more white arrows on the roads where I live. Some local roundabouts, I've had to learn off by heart.
I have a question here. @5:30 ...as we approach the second lane....i can see the second lane road markings are spiralling into the first lane when you pass the first exit....I question is if we are supposed to follow the road markings ( dotted lines) why did you rather following the dotted lines shifted to the second lane....? This is my first question. My 2 query is if you have followed the dotted lines after passing the first exit...it would have guided you into the 3rd exit....am i right in this? Please clarify. My 3 Rd query is are we supposed to follow the dotted lines guiding us into the correct lane or is it after passing each exit should we look for the road signs....in short are we supposed to follow the dotted lines or the directions/locations mentioned on the road after each exit ?? .

At 2:55 you mention nothing about signaling left to leave the roundabout at exit 2. Also, at 7:04 although the lane has only an arrow pointing forward, are you signaling right because you plan to go right or not signaling because of some reason? Could you explain please? Thankyou.
if you don't know how to navigate the roundabouts, they can be a hell of a headache .........., especially in London where there's not much time to check where you're going as the traffic is horrendous and everybody tries to jump in front of you, motorcycles, bicycles, people and other cars ............. is simple hell going into traffic roundabouts in London.

@@JamesTravis but what if your turning right, but using the left of 2 lanes that both go right? Would you still indicate right when in the left lane? Thanks
Hi Travis.. Are the roundabout marking on 4:57 incorrect? If i look at the lane marking on the middle lane it pushes you out into the left-hand lane on the spiral roundabout and not into the middle land. Am i missing something?
The middle lane entrance is dual purpose. If you are going ahead you would come across to the left. If you are going right you would stay in the middle longer till you pass the second exit then come across to the left.
If you cannot cross over to your next lane on your left because of some unforeseen reason. Then you could either take the next exit or check to go to the right lane and go round again.

As you pass the first exit, the middle and left lane both go left only onto A5 south only. As you are passing the second exit you move across to either the middle or to the left. Your mistake appears to be that you are following the lane markings for 'FEN'. These markings are not just for those who have entered the roundabout where you did, but are also for others who have entered at different points and who are being led along a different route through the roundabout.
7:04 he does it again. He's reading the signs and assuming it applies to the roundabout itself, but they only have information for the lane to position in on approach to the roundabout. Once on the roundabout you must follow the dashed lines.
yet another example of screwed up road markings on a roundabout. yes, he should've followed the dotted line, but it should've taken him to FEN lane. Driving correctly he would need to leave roundabout earlier. what a mess...
On the fen roundabouts would it not be more safe to start in the right lane as it automatically opens up into the two lanes your going into anyways instead of cutting over the lines?
At 5.25, you did not follow the road markings at all, and somehow you ended up on the correct lane? Literally no lines led you to the middle lane, but that was the correct thing to do. I am so confused. I thought no matter what, you have to follow your lines. I have a full driving license, but basically I am just driving around basic and practiced routes, I am not going anywhere near a big roundabout or motorway. Hi, on the approach to the roundabout at 4:43 the roundabout sign says Fenny Stratford is the 3rd exit, as we get to the roundabout 4:54 the signs on the right say for Fenny Startford enter and use the middle lane. The signs are telling me what to do.
I understand your confusion Vivien. The way the short dashed lines coming from our entry to the roundabout are painted make it appear that you can either take the first exit or stay on the roundabout in what is now lane 1. Maybe it is clearer when actually sat in the car but in the video it doesn’t look like you have the option of both lane 1 and 2 on the roundabout from the middle lane at the lights based on the dashed lines. Sorry I haven’t actually answered your question!
@@JamesTravis this confuses me too Travis. I understand the signs tell you to go to Fenny Stratford but the dashed lines on the middle lane guide you to the left hand lane after the 1st exit? Do you just ignore these then 😭 I feel like the more videos I watch on these the more confused I get.

You are correct that I could of stayed in that lane and come off in the right. But if the left lane was clear I moved across to make it easier for me after I came off the roundabout. If it was busy in the left I would of stayed in the lane and come off in the right, then I would of moved over to the left when it was safe to do so. Hope that helps explain my reasoning
Not all spirals have lights tho and I cant just pause In real time to see what lane I should be in when I'm already checking my mirrors and worrying about signal and braking to the roundabout, like it's really helpful video but you saying use the lights to help you plan, and im like bruh mine dont have them I have to a million different things to make sure I'm safe
All good. But now imagine its busy and none of the markings on the road are visible... And its dark... And google maps isnt as helpful because you don't have a phone cradle because amazon hasnt delivered it yet... I prefer old roundabouts because of this. 2 lanes. exit on the left lane. Pick any exit.
My channel playlist on spiral roundabouts has other ones with no lights on.
Thanks for watching
I think I need to slow down when it comes to the sign I kept messing up with this oh god
Good luck with your driving lessons
I have a question how can you identify a spiral roundabout
Do you think driving lessons will be allowed by March?
Honestly I don’t know. If I had to guess, end March April at earliest
Good video but could really do without the background music whilst trying to concentrate on the video
On my next roundabout video which comes out this Monday, there is no background music.
👍
Thank you for watching
On your way. So much better for wayfinding.
Yes old style roundabout is ok
Could you please make your videos a bit louder?
Ok thanks
Sounds too low when you speak
