My raw and unscripted thoughts on the Dark Road interview from Nomura. There's a lot of things to consider now going into Missing Link.
Btw, I was going to discuss the fact Missing Link Scala was confirmed to be the same as Dark Road Scala (people were theorising they were two different places), but I felt like the video was long enough so I cut it out. But yeah, that was cool to have confirmed as well.

Blue coat seem to have been aware of future Xehanort, hence why he protected and raised him until he died. Ansem may have appeared in Missing Link and released emblem Heartless on old scala. Also notice how the very second that Blue Coat died, Ansem appears
Interesting observation about Heart Ansem. There may be a connection here, which is that old player protected Xehanort from the darkness, ie Ansem.

I was so certain that Skuld was subject x until this update LOL. like you said, it would take a lot of time travel/really weird plot points for skuld to still be subject x AND be an ancestor of xehanort. now i'm leaning more on the side of Ava being subject x, but I'm still not fully convinced. honestly this update just gave us MORE questions than answers (as usual) so we'll just have to wait and see what missing link has!
Nomura never stated that skuld is an ancestor of skuld and subject X has to be one between her or Ava as Nomura said that we''ve already seen subject X before
Man I gotta say the whole thing about Skuld has definitely complicated the Subject X theories, but you gave some good potential answers. I'm not sure which one I buy into most, I can't see how it ain't her, so I gotta believe there's something more to it!
I believe “subject X = skuld” is a rouse by nomura. If you inspect the kh3 reports carefully, she mentions 4 friends, but she has 5 friends, Ephemer, Brain, Lauriam, Ventus and Player! This is also the total number of 6 friends that Toddlernort mentions in the Ending of KHDR.
It honestly makes more sense according to the interview that Skuld stayed with Ephemer and had a child, who later descended to be xehanort, and that subject x is simply a new character who will appear in missing link. That’s my current theory going through the Kh3 reports and the DR interview. I can’t see how Subject X = Skuld anymore. Its a trick that nomura is playing on us, sinister to Xehanort = player but turns out player = blue robe.
@@sharpshooterxigbar5713 It could be Subject X/Skuld has a "nobody" version of her self being experimental by Ansem the Wise (idk during birth by sleep timeline) has been send to the past of Scala ad caleum (after daybreak town been destroyed) live a normal life with a mysterious descendant of ephemera and having baby xehanort. Just my theory

Actually no, not Ava. I think Luxu’s wording and lines at the end of KH3 makes it feel like he hasn’t seen Ava since UX days. I suspect Subject X is a new character from Missing link, because no one fits the description of time traveler from before BBS, as of yet. But hey Subject X could be Ava or Skuld, After my own research I just don’t think subject x is either using all the information we have.
@@sharpshooterxigbar5713 Small problem with that theory, Nomura confirmed in a past interview that Subject-X had appeared in the series before KH3, so she can't be a new character from Missing Link.
I love the idea you said of us growing into a master in Missing Link and teaching Odin and maybe even Ephemer's descendents like Xehanort's mother! I won't get my hopes up because we might not but I really hope that turns out to be true! I definitely think Skuld is Subject X and your theory about her replacing Ava is still in my head. I mean if it's not her then who tf is it???!! (pls don't say Ava!!! 😭😭)
Subject x can be a new character from missing link. It’s more likely than skuld and Ava. I’m of the belief that skuld stayed with ephemer and had a child, because that lines up with what nomura said in the interview.

Missing Link isn't age of fairytales it's the unwritten era, so subject x can't be from there unless Nomura is retconning the secret reports and his own timeline 😬😬 Guess it wouldn't be his first retcon though would it? 😅

I would agree with you, except for the fact that Subject X isn’t confirmed to be from the age of fairy tales. Can you please tell me where “age of fairy tales” is mentioned?
The only thing I found in the secret reports is this line:
“What fragments can be gleaned evoke a bygone world, like one out of fairy tales.”
There’s no confirmation that she is indeed from the age of fairy tales. Apprentice Xehanort simply says that the world she comes from is described LIKE A FAIRY TALE. Not that she is from the age of fairy tales. So what does he mean if he isn’t talking about the age of fairy tales? Well if that character is from missing link then she is also from Old Scala Ad Caelum, which doesn’t exist anymore, replaced by a new different looking scala ad caelum and so it can be described as a “fairy tale” because it doesn’t exist anymore.
And all the other characteristics you have mentioned can easily be applied to a new character from missing link who:
- has black hair
- is around 15 years old
- time traveled from the past
- remembers four friends and a key
On the topic of Skuld, I thought it was at least implied she may have come from the future. Which if that's true, then the woman we see who's related to Skuld (IF she's bloodline related which may not be the case) could be not a descendant, but an ANCESTOR. Skuld from the future means this lady could be her great-great-great-etc. grandmother. Possibly. If that's true. And then Skuld goes back in time to age of fairy tales but doesn't necessarily know that she's from the future or forgot somehow, and then ends up eventually BACK in the future as Subject X.
I probably didn't explain that very well lol. It's... timey-wimey. IF Skuld is from the future then the pieces fit together a bit better. But that's a big if.
Xehanort became "singularity" or probably "virus" that Brain wanted. 🤔
MoM said Luxu is the traitor :
Step 1: Brain gave Book to Ephemer and Keyblade.
Step 2: Luxu "interfered" and hopped in Brain (MoM told Brain not to interfere).
Step 3: Luxu discarded Brain's body.
Step 4: Brain went to Scala knowing Luxu's existence and rewrites history in Book.
Extra-Step 5: MoM re-planning his plan by meeting Xehanort.
I'm 70% now on Subject X is Ava:
Step 1: Luxu injured Ava in battle at Daybreak Town.
Step 2: Luxu sends her to Radiant Garden. Maybe, stole someone's body there (Skuld related? Got their memories mixed?)
Step 3: Luxu sends Ava to Quadratum. Maybe, stole Nameless Star body in Quadratum.
That's why Luxu was not fazed by Ava missing at the Graveyard. Ava is a part of MoM's plan to trap Darkness (she's probably there already). Also, if Ava is in the lifeboat then Strelitzia is Data. 🤷
At this point, all these silver-haired people are so sus in this freaking game! 💀💀💀 Next, we found out Xehanort is Yozora, or MoM is Xehanort, or Riku is Ephemer's descendants by millisecond 🤬🤬🤣🤣
You're reading my mind on the Singularity point! I might have a theory video coming soon about that.
I don't believe Subject X has an even 1% of being Ava without a bunch of retconning and/or character misinformation.
Subject X has to be 15, from the Age of Fairytales, have dark hair, escaped the destruction of the world with her friends, and was taken by a man with an eyepatch (almost certainly Luxu), and she used a method of time travel that would mess up memories (only the pods are known to do this, and Ava couldn't have taken one since the correct number was there except the one Malificent used. Why would she anyway since the Foretellers can move through time without losing their memories, which is why they're in the epilogue with no memory loss).
If she's Subject X then that means that Luxu took Ava. But unless he's deliberately lying/being misleading (which I won't rule out), why would he say Ava didn't make it if he knows where she is? Again, could be him being a troll, it would be in character I guess lol.
But the memory loss thing makes it a lot of less likely if Foretellers can time travel without losing memories. Who knows though, there might be new details in Missing Link, but based on current evidence I don't see it being Ava
But yeah, silver anything is sus at this point for sure 😂

@@nathanevans1382 The secret reports from Apprentice Xehanort say that the memories from her heart evoke images of a bygone world like one from fairytales, which is a deliberate reference to the age of fairytales. Missing Link isn't part of the age of fairytales, so the only way Subject X can be from that time is through retconning
Edit: Also, it makes more sense for her to be from that time, since in Dark Road it was shown Xehanort is basically obsessed with finding the people from that era, and that would fit with the obsession Apprentice Xehanort and Ansem SoD had with her too
@@NextGenNovelist "Deliberate references" tend to be red herrings when it comes to Nomura, we all thought Xehanort was the player character reincarnated because of all the "deliberate references" on that one, we were still wrong. Also that "world like one from fairytales" is a bit vague, technically speaking, most Disney Worlds in Kingdom Hearts look like fairytale worlds, plus it wouldn't be the first time in the series one character had memories that actually belonged to another character, Sora was able to see Twilight Town in Chain of Memories because he could see Roxas's memories, and he was able to see Aqua and Terra in the Sleeping Worlds because of Ventus, it's not even exclusive to Sora, Xehanort could see the player character's memories too (interesting thing to note, if Subject-X really is like Xehanort, maybe the reason her memories showed a "world from the age of fairytales" was because she was seeing Xehanort's "memories", still, I doubt the world in Subject-X's memories was the Age of Fairytales at all so moving on). Also, the reason Xehanort had a connection with Subject-X was because this was when Xehanort had amnesia due to the beat down Terra and Aqua gave him, he didn't have his obsession with finding his "friends" from the Age of Fairytales, amnesiac Xehanort saw someone else with no memories and from another world, and remember, Ansem SOD is Xehanort's Heartless from that time, so that could be why he was looking for her. But more than that, Subject-X literally CAN'T be from the Age of Fairytales, I remember in an interview that Nomura said Subject-X had appeared before KH3, that gives us two candidates, Skuld, who we now know remained in the same time as Ephemer and had descendants which led to Xehanort (and there's a lot more evidence supporting that so please don't just ignore it), and Ava who also can't be Subject-X because she isn't 15 (I'm pretty sure), so if Subject-X is from the Age of Fairytales and she isn't either of those two, who else can she be?
@@NextGenNovelist I believe Xehanort is the Unchosen Chosen. He was moved to Destiny Islands, but wasn't born there. But Sora and Riku were. They are Born of Destiny Islands (Children of Destiny) . Xehanort is designed by Mom to be the "villian" and Possess Riku (dark Vessel) and try to possess Sora (Chosen to be a Dark Vessel).
This is all so Riku can sacrifice himself so Sora can perform the Power of Waking incorrect, and quoting Nomura "cause the Singularity". For you, see, Riku tells Sora who he knows Sora is, and affirms his belief in Sora's Heart. This gives Sora the Will to break Reality and cause "The Singularity". The Singularity changes the Timeline, so "Darkness doesn't prevail, and Light doesn't expire."
Now on to Subject X. X marks Dark Vessels and the Unchosen Chosen. Rebelling against Authority, Order, Light. However, the X are still part of the Plan, the Script, you see. The balance of Chosen and X's

IIRC the first chapter of Dark Road actually makes note of the oddity of Emblem Heartless appearing in the worlds, when Eraqus goes "wait but I thought they were projections from the Book of Prophecies before" or something like that. You'd think it's something they'd come back to at the end of the game but, well this is Kingdom Hearts, they're just saving that for later :p
Also why does Xehanort point out in the KH3 Secret Reports that Eraqus is a blueblood when, well, _he_ is also a blueblood and was told that many times by Blue Robe that he descended from the first masters? And for that matter (and this is something I've been asking since Birth By Sleep), why exactly did Xehanort inherit the Gazing Eye? Why was he chosen to carry on the "hope of the Lost Masters" (or however Eraqus put it)?
I seem to remember Missing Link being advertised specifically to answer all of the series' mysteries up until this point, but I can't recall where it was stated. Either way though, Missing Link has a lot to answer for, even when we damn well know it's just gonna pile more questions on us...
You're right, I completely forgot they did mention it at the start, but yeah it seems like that actually proves to their knowledge the BOP didn't create the current Emblem Heartless.
To the Xehanort and Blue Blood thing.. I really don't know, especially since he's descended from the damn founder of the new keyblade order. I'm starting to think either Nomura is just retconning again or it'll be explained in Missing Link

Honestly, I really do think Skuld is great Grandmom Xehanort because it’s mentioned in Dark Road that there is indeed a very strong resemblance between Xehanort mother and Skuld. Now in this interview with Nomura saying that Xehanort mom is related to Skuld in someway and the many times he uses the word “Bloodline”. So I think there is strong evidences to support a family connection.
As for who Project X could be?:
1. It could not be Skuld and instead be Ava as she was the only one out of the four Foretellers to still be missing in KH3? Plus the only one who actually seems to know what might’ve happened to her is Luxu. Who is mentioned in the secret reports.
2. It’s Data-Skuld, KH isn’t new to the idea of copies of other characters existing and dealing with that dilemma as seen with Replica Riku. Plus it might explain why she suddenly disappeared? She doesn’t technically belong in the ROL. She belongs in the Datascape.
1. Skuld is great great Grandmom and Ephemer is great great grandfather to Xehanort.
2. Ava is Subject X(exactly like you said in point 1 not data-skuld).
@@puppetsmark3543 the reports in KH3 mentions she departed alongside 4 friends. We don't know if Ava truly had friends for her end. We know for a fact Skuld did but Nomura points out that the lady is (in some way) related meaning. She could have fallen to darkness and created a nobody or some Data version as mentioned above happened, still my argument has plenty of holes, and could be Ava.

I think Skuld is Xehanort's great great great grandmother, but somehow time travels from the era where her and Ephemer founded Scala, after she gave birth to a child that continues on their bloodline and leads to Xehanort. Once she time travels, she ends up in Radiant Garden as Subject X. I think people are really overcomplicating this. She had a baby with Ephemer and then some time travel stuff happens and she ends up in Radiant Garden during the era of Apprentice Xehanort.

@@Paigemarie467 Hey man...Scala ad Caelum was a different place back then. Either that or Skuld ended up in Radiant Garden during Apprentice Xehanort's era, then somehow traveled back in time when Braig let her loose to the era where Ephemer founded Scala and then they went on to make babies.

Though I mean...it was post a war that destroyed the old world, so there could be some Adam and Eve stuff with Ephemer and Skuld. Regardless, I think the second idea is far more likely. Nomura said that Xehanort's mom is related to Skuld in some way, so I don't know how Nomura will do it but I'm pretty sure Ephemer and Skuld get together some how and begin the bloodline that leads to Xehanort.

But I'm going to ride and die on Skuld being X theory. The symbolism with Lea and Isa plus her name being future makes so much sense. I also don't want Skuld getting bad treatment like Kiari. All the union leaders have importance in the future and I dont want my girl to be the baby maker in the shadows.
Then again, Nomura could say Skuld had a sister named Verdandi and that's how their related.

Good to see you back NextGen. I thought I was the only one wondering why Odin didn't reveal himself to be someone like Luxu or even Yen Sid. You've given me some hope for Missing Link though cos if I'm being honest I wasn't too happy to see another mobile game.

missed the vids bro ;( community felt so disconnected at times these last few months, its great to get the final update, for once I actually feel satisfied with the answers we got. I think dark road was extremely well writen. Lots of questions but I loved how much backstory we got for some of these characters. I was always interested in xehanort and vanitas since bbs released so long ago, I hope they give vanitas a big role but do it in a way that doesnt feel cheaply added into the story, i have faith
Skuld could have had a sibling in union cross that wasn’t mentioned. That sibling then had a child who then became a descendant of Skuld’s family.
That’s quite a stretch, and it doesn’t make sense. How would this sister in union cross be the only person to survive the destruction of daybreak town? I think people need to drop the idea that skuld is confirmed to be Subject X, because that’s not confirmed in any way and it’s more likely that skuld is with ephemer and never traveled through time.
@@sharpshooterxigbar5713 it makes more sense then what most are talking about. It is literally a simple answer. A sibling isn’t hard to imagine as we seen Lauriam and Baldr with one. I could be wrong, but it’s my take. By the way, weren’t there other wielders that Ava addressed concerning to not be involved with the war? By the way; your take seems plausible as well. I like your train of thought.

The only gripe I have with your theory is how this unspoken sister survived the destruction of daybreak town when it’s clear that in the finale that everybody died except those who used the pods.
It makes more sense for skuld to have stayed, as if ephemer’s pod didn’t work it’s logical to say that skuld’s pod didn’t work either, and then they had a child and began building Old Scala.
Which means subject x actually is a new character, and that she is from missing link.

I could also be completely wrong too, hell this is Nomura and KH we’re talking about haha. But at the same time I tried my best to dig for anything and everything concerning the matter so that my claim would be backed by proper evidence. This is just the conclusion I reached after some research.
I just realized, from the life pods, Xehanort was the waypoint for Ventus, Lauriam and Elrena through his dreams being a memory.
I could see it being retconned into that, but in UX it was explained it was Malificent that acted as the waypoint. That's the entire reason she was needed in that era basically
@@NextGenNovelist but didn't Malefica got the knowledge of them only after the events of kh1? after she got defeated she "went back in time" and reappeared at the beginning oh kh2 so she couldn't remember Ventus or the others during BBS because she still didn't know about that. Wasn't in fact stated that was Luxu the connection? He kept living and kept observing them and he for sure was around to be the waypoint for all of them

Chances are that Blue Hood and Xehanort are both the player. We are the only person with two Chirithys. One of light and one of darkness. Blue Hood's strongest memory of Ephemer is when he was nearing death during the keyblade war. You would ordinarily think it would be of his last moments with him. Before he sacrificed himself. I believe the mystery behind this lies behind Xemnas's chamber. The friend in which he spoke to. It's already been confirmed in 2.8 that it isn't Aqua Xemnas was speaking to.
Skuld is subject x. When xehanort put her back in the lifeboat he might have sent her waaayy back to try to reunite her with her old friends since she reminds him of his mom creating a time loop
I think Xehanort’s mother and Subject X are both descendants of Skuld. And maybe, Subject X and the human forms of Luxord and Demyx may travel to the future, using a copy of the device in Union Cross.

I wonder if Ansem (Xehanort's heartless) back in KH3 tried to track down Subject X because he thought she could be related to his mother. Since then we all had theories that Subject X could be Skuld so the possibility do exist.
That would be really cool and honestly perhaps one of the most satisfying directions they could take it

No doubt he will. The player had two Chirithys. Each person should only have one. Most likely, Xehanort and Blue Hood are both the Player. The one that came close to death in the keyblade war and the one that was reborn as a new heart.
Your theory about skuld being data etc just remember the true dandelion I could see nomura making subject x and the true dandelion the same character
I've got to wonder why Scala was full of people and life when Xehanort was born but now we never see anyone from there ? Where have all the people gone away to?
We don't know if the Scala from Dark Road is truly empty since we've not been there in the present day yet, but since we've never seen any wielders come from there it's fair to assume it is. Just seems odd because Dark Road didn't really explain why Scala would be completely empty
@@NextGenNovelist True, its just odd how the guardians are scrambling to find keyblade welders when Scala used to be the seat of power and full of them. I hope at some point soon we get to see what happened to all of them.
I have a hard time believing Subject X is Ava, the other masters retained their memories after being summoned by Luxu, and Ava was not present during the data world for the player and did not depart from the time machine things(which would be the only case for somebody to lose memories). Still it can very well be Ava.
What if subject X is Ava? That would explain why Xigbar/Luxu saves her from the experiments Ansem the Wise was doing.

Xehanort's mom could be made up of Skuld's memories, similar to how Xion was "in some way" related to Sora.
This might also be why Skuld is locked away, as Sora was when his memories were being written. I was thinking that her hanging with Lea and Isa might contradict this, but that happened much after this; where Xehanort's mom would've passed away and the memories returned to Skuld. That might also explain why she was asleep until fairly recently.

This is more along the lines of what I think is going on. I think Ephemer would have wanted to bring Skuld back or keep her memory living on in some way and then created someone from memories.
You got to think also, all that technology that Ansem The Wise uses, like memories with Xion or data worlds, or even how he had an arc (not sure if its his or if Apprentice Xehanort created it, but it's during the time he was still under Ansem), we know at least two of those things were integral to the Union Leaders/Dandelions continued existence and the technology predates Ansem. Which means he learnt about it from somewhere.
So the memories tech is also possible to be part of that, and if so, that might explain where he got the idea from.
Also in KH2, there's a memory pod like the one Sora was in, but it says it was already used, yet we never find out who was used in it. Again, we know Subject X has needs her memories restored, and the memory pod was something Ansem was using, and Ansem had subject X. It's all just pointing to Skuld still.
Also I highly doubt Nomura would spoil the fact Skuld is with Ephemer and built Scala that casually, since he never showed us where she ended up at the end of UX. Why not show us if you're just going to spoil it in an interview anyway?
Can heartless time travel? Ansem could do it but would heartless have enough cognition to do it themselves?
Well, technically I think they can. To time travel one must cast aside their body. A Heartless is the darkness of a heart manifested. While I don’t think the generic Heartless have the mental fortitude to travel through time, the last unaccounted Darkness-the same that spoke with Maleficent and later confronted Luxu-is still mostly unknown. Maybe it sent the Heartless through time?
I always thought that Skuld stayed with Ephemer and us not seeing her was to make a red herring for her being Subject X. Something that I believe more firmly because we know for sure that Urd dies. The only reason to have a trio of names so closely tied together as the Norns is either have them form a trio in the present day or have them be connected in some other way. Personally I think Skuld might have heart melted and become Urd. They have a lot of similarities.
However I have recently come across a theory that I like about how Skuld and Subject X could be the same person.
I will start by saying that my first guess for for Subject X is that she is from ML. That has always been my best guess. It might not be the "age of fairytales" anymore but people are mistaken about things all the time in KH. And Subject X doesn't have enough memories to correct them if they got it wrong. People are still using the "may my heart be my guiding key" line to the point that Aqua knows the line. She says no one uses it and maybe read it in a book but I wouldn't be surprised if it is still commonly used in Missing Link.
However the thing that most makes me think that Subject X is someone form ML is that No One fits the "four friends and a Key" math. Which makes me think that it is a single event very clear in her memories. An event that we haven't seen yet. And when we do see it, its going to be very clear that This is what Subject X is talking about. Granted I did have someone tell me that maybe the "four friends and a Key" is talking about the people she met during her time at Radiant Garden, and not a clue about her past at all.
Anyway onto the theory I have run across.
It seems very likely to me that Brain is going to try and save the Dandelions. That is his main goal by the end of UX and it makes sense that it's what he ends up doing. When he does that I think he is accidentally going to release the emblem heartless that also exist in the data, and maybe even the four Darknesses that where trapped in the data. By the end of the story I think that most of Scala is going to sacrifice themselves to trap the Darknesses again. Which is why in DR most of Scala is abandoned. I do think we need a flash forward to show exactly how the emblem heartless disappear after DR. However I think flash forwards are going to be a common thing in ML, because of just how many unanswered questions exist in DR and Xehanort's story.
Anyway while Brain is accidentally releasing the Darknesses and the Emblem Heartless it is possible he also is going to find some of the Dandelion's Data. What would he do with it if he found something like that? Well I would save the data on a different computer, especially if I am going to try and trap the Darknesses back into the computer by the end of the story.
Then it's just a matter of who has the Dandelion's data after Missing Link ends. My guess would be Luxu. So long as he has the data Luxu, and some way to get a body with a heat and mind already within it. Luxu would be able to make as many copies of people he had data of as he wanted. Data is basically like a mind, if how Xion acts before she starts growing a heart is to be believed. And so much as the data in a body interacts with anyone(in a meaningful way) it would start to grow a heart.
So yeah. This is how Skuld could both be the Mother of Scala, and Subject X. Granted even if Subject X is made of Skuld's data she wouldn't really be Skuld. Anymore then Roxas or Xion is Sora, or Namine is Kairi, or Riku Replica is Riku. Making a data copy of someone makes something closer to a twin or sibling than a actual copy. Well unless the person making the copy has the original heart.
The thory you came across is interesting. However about your personal i am afradi it can't be. Nomura stated in the past that Subject X was someone we have already seen therefore ot has to be someone between Skuld or Ava (or some random character retconned)

Who’s to say the dad isn’t dark skin though? Clearly that woman was his mother but his father could be dark skined thus inheriting a darker skin tone of his father rather than his mother’s white skin.

Yeah you’re right that both Skuld and Ephemer are white. But they aren’t Xehanorts parents, they are his ancestor’s.
Remember that Xehanort’s mom is the 4th generation, which means the 1st generation is Skuld + Ephemer and 4th generation is XehaMom (who Carries the blood of skuld and Ephemer, which is why she is white) + XehaFather who has no relation to the Ephemer+Skuld bloodline and is an unrelated dude who has darker skin, which would explain Xehanort’s darker skin meanwhile having that connection with Ephemer and Skuld.

Isn’t it possible that X isn’t Skuld but is actually Strelitzia (or the True Dandelion, whatever) and that, like Ephemer, her pod didn’t work and she was stuck in the past with him.
I want it to be Skuld, don’t get me wrong, but with the end of Dark Road, and with Strelitzia showing up in KH4, it doesn’t seem like that’s the direction they’re going with X’s identity.
Subject X has dark hair, so definitely not Strelitzia
I hate this thought but please convince me that Xehanort's mom isn't a data Skuld since Skuld as of now is presumably subject X.
Something that I feel alluded you is that woman can’t be his mom, genes don’t work that way, his hair is grey because of ephemer, and his skin is brown because of who? His mom so I just feel like we haven’t seen her yet
Some genes can skip generations so it's possible Ephemers Silver hair genes was dormant inside his moms DNA, meanwhile Xehanorts darker skin comes from his father. So he has his moms eyes(until they turn yellow), Ephemers hair color and his fathers skin color.
It feels silly to rule out the lady we see hand Xehanort to player reincarnated, just cause HER skin color is lighter, when we don't know anything about Xehanorts father or what he looks like.

In regards to Skuld and Xehanorts mom: it's a fucking line. It's like saying "oh her hair is blonde/brown/black just like my mom's."
There's nothing further to it. Not everything is overly ladden with meaning.
I want to pop my thoughts in after a discussion with some friends about Union x and dark road. Please tell me if yall agree or not and if not feel free to mention any contradictions that I have not mentioned of my explanations.
1) SKULD AND AVA ARENT SUBJECT X, But subject x is a new character from missing link;
First of all, Ava isn’t subject X because Luxu’s reaction in the epilogue shows how he expected ava not appear, and probably means he hasn’t seen her since the UX days. That would not be the case if she was subject x, since Luxu saw subject x and this wouldn’t say “so Ava didn’t make it after all”
Now I believed skuld was subject x until the interview came out, clearly Skuld stayed with ephemer and had a child, and if she did time travel, it would have been after having a child. Also two points that are against her being subject x.
- if ephemer’s pod didn’t work, it’s easy to assume that skuld’s pod didn’t work either.
- subject x says 4 friends, when clearly she had 5 friends. Ephemer, brain, Lauriam, ventus and player! Just like the list of 6 that Toddlernort gives. If she was subject X it would make more sense to say 5 friends.
2) what happened to brain and Luxu after UX’s ending?
So that last cutscene with Luxu uncovering his hood and revealing his face to be Brain’s face actually takes place BEFORE THE KEYBLADE WAR! The same cutscene that was at the end of X back cover. Why you might ask?
- Luxu’s first mission is to hide the box, so it’s pretty stupid for him to go back and pull out the box after the events of UX.
- there are no keyblades when that same area in kh3’s epilogue does.
I don’t believe Luxu took brain as a vessel. So what does that mean? Luxu’s orginal face/body LOOKS like Brain, however they are not the same person, but they must have an untold connection. Brain is a virus, so perhaps he was not meant to exist? And for some reason he LOOKS like Luxu? Basically what I’m trying to say is that
Brain LOOK LIKE Luxu. As that is LUXU’S face.
3) So how did brain end up in old Scala? And who did Luxu give his Keyblade to?
I believe that Luxu knocked Brain out at the end of their interaction, pulled the remaining pod (meant for the player) from the data world while ephemer and skuld were in their pods, then sent brain into the pod to old scala, while keeping his hat. After that he brought ephemer and skuld to the real world. That would explain how brain appeared in old scala while also showing that Luxu didn’t use brain as a vessel.
Luxu then bequeathed his Keyblade to ephemer after building Old scala, and THEN found himself a vessel, which is what he claims to have done in the KH3 secret reports. I think these set of events fit in perfectly with the kh3 reports.
3) How did Scala change from old to new?
I suspect that the new scala was built above a flooded old scala, because there is an ocean of water in New Scala while old scala seems to have no water according to the footage we’ve seen. The flood may also be the reason for Xehanort’s evacuation from that world, where either Old player/ Xehanort mom asked to take the baby somewhere far.
To your first point, I completely agree about Ava not being subject X. However, Skuld is still the biggest candidate besides someone from Missing Link that we've not met yet, but up until this point, she was the only possibility based on the details we had available.
The four friends line has problems, but if you consider from her perspective Player betrayed them at the end and had to basically be "killed" by Ephemer then it's easy to think with her memory loss, she might not remember them as a friend.
Interesting point about the Brain and Luxu connection. Honestly that whole ordeal confuses me so I'll take any ideas on it and I can see that being the case.
Your third point about Brain in Scala I guess works if your second point is accurate, so fair enough.
On this 4th point though, I thought the same, but we saw what was beneath scala and it was nothing except broken ruins from daybreak town, but that was the scala in Xehanort's heart, maybe the actual world is different.
Overall I still think based on the available evidence subject X is Skuld. However, all the secret report details on her can be switched to a new character in Missing Link, except the detail about her being from the Age of Fairytales, unless ML is considered the age of fairytales but I don't see why that'd be the case

I’m very open of Skuld being Subject X, I’m just very very wary of red herrings now after that “Blue robe = Player not Xehanort” fiasco.
I think subject x is not necessarily from the age of fairy tales. No where in the secret reports do they mention “age of fairy tales”, instead this is the line mentioned. Please correct me if I’m wrong though, I just couldn’t find the line about age of fairy tales.

Bygone world could easily be applied to Old Scala since technically old Scala is bygone as at the time of Secret Report 4, it is now New Scala, which could be classified as “a fairy tale” since it technically doesn’t exist. And even if that isn’t convincing, Apprentice Xehanort says “Like” so he is just comparing and isn’t saying FOR SURE that she if from the age of fairy tales… this may have been a throw away line to convince us that Skuld=Subject X.
This along with everything thing I said above and coupled with the dark road interview about Skuld being related to Xehanort, I think makes almost everything connect, especially about skuld being Xehanort’s ancestor, and concludes how Subject X is more likely to be a character from missing link, taking all information into account.
If there’s any other counterpoints as to why Skuld is Subject X I’d love to hear it, but I think I offered reasonable explanations for all the reasons so far as to why people think she is Subject X. And as you said almost everything else could be easily applied to a new missing link character. This is what we KNOW for sure:
- black hair
- 15 years old
- time traveled and lost her memories
- 4 friends
- a key
- may your heart be your guiding key
So I hope I explained how that “fairy tale” line may have been a bit dodgy in my opinion. But again, this is Kingdom hearts, and nomura can throw a curve ball at anytime and make it make sense, making skuld a time traveling Demi god just to make her both subject X and Xehanort’s ancestor make sense. I’m just putting out my opinion after careful research.
Also unrelated to Skuld-SubjectX, I want to add something after analyzing that last interaction with Xehanort and Blue Robe. I think we all assumed that Ephemer is the same person as “Great Great Grandfather” but there IS a possibility that this is ALSO a red herring because they are two different lines spoken minutes apart. So Ephemer could be the great great great great great great etc grandfather because it wasn’t confirmed that he IS the same identity as the “renowned Keyblade wielder Great great grandfather”. This would also make “Age of fairy tales” line actually a fairy tale because I don’t think 7 generations ago is “a fairy tale” so this may also be a throw away line intended by nomura to trick us.
I’m just keeping an open mind here haha cuz I think I have learned nomura’s scheming sly-Fox behavior at this point, but again I’m just dropping some ideas for thought.
