This may sound absolutely wild, but I served with this kid when he was stationed at fort hood in 2019. We were both attached to the 62nd ESB and served as color guard for the battalion on a number of occasions. Very outstanding soldier and a great mentor. I'm glad to see that he's been able to advance in the Army.

I don't think there are many more professional soldiers who would fulfill that role. Even as an E4, McLean still carried himself like an NCO and was an upstanding soldier no matter the situation.

I went through MP Basic Training and AIT at Ft. McClellan, Alabama in 1984 and I still remember every drill sergeant in my company nearly 40 years later. For better or worse, these guys do leave a lifetime lasting impression on new recruits. To this day, I still remember bumping into a drill sgt who unexpectedly emerged from a stairwell while we were running to the mess hall for dinner on the second day of basic training. Even though I clearly had the right of way, I still vividly remember doing pushups while my whole company ran past me in the front leaning rest position (which I never found to be a restful position to be quite honest).

Same here but in 1977. We in fact were the very first male troops to go through basic and AIT there. Now we learn we were all poisoned by the government there as well as exposed to radiation on purpose. Been battling health issues all my life ever since. But good luck getting any compensation. There are some very powerful people who invested heavily in the real-estate that McClellan provided in the city of Aniston, who don't want vets to be recognized as being contaminated there. Even though it was classified as a super fund site. Well such is life I guess !

Perhaps you just had a bad attitude about it. My D.I. made me stand outside his office and hold the wall up to keep it falling in on him for about 5 hours one morning while everyone else was out on pass. Then he made me turn over stones to keep them from getting sun burned for another 3 hours. just because I told him I thought he was cute. this was 1977 LOL

DS McLean is the kind of soldier who perfectly encapsulates both the professionalism and vigor that come with non-commissioned officership and leadership. Straight lace and articulate. It's damned cool that when I knew this soldier, we were both members of the e4 mafia. I got out and he got promoted. That's how it goes.
