*UPDATE: I added Best X870E motherboard links in the video description due to popular demand.* What Ryzen Motherboards are you looking at? What motherboard features are most important to you? Did you recently build or upgrade a Ryzen system? If so, what board did you go with and why? Tell your story in a new comment below!
Upgraded to MSI B550M PRO VDH WIFI, 5700X3D, 32 GB 3600 CL16 and ID COOLING SE 214 XT ARGB, why? Because was cheaper than the AM5 built by around $150, all for $365 black friday 2024
Was originally looking at the Gigabyte x870e elite for the 9800x3d, it currently comes with a free 1tb ssd. But I think you’ve convinced me to save some money and go with the Asus X670e
Awesome video. As a long time Mac user, and thinking of getting a mid-high PC for a couple years now, the motherboard was always the hardest part to pick. This was highly informative and extremely valuable video I’ve seen in years. Thank you
Kinda disappointed you didn't mention B650E Taichi Lite in the premium section. Absolutely killer board. Got it a year ago with the 7800x3d. I didn't really need a board like that for my setup, but i'm a board enthusiast. There's just something about a premium feel MoBo that just has me spinning, lol.
Has been sold out for a long time. I asked ASRock reps at CES whether it was coming back and they weren't sure it was. Looks like X870E Taichi Lite is its replacement but right now that board has a silly $400 price.
I took the plunge and ordered a couple of 7500F cpus from China as they were VERY inexpensive but they arrived in perfect condition and now I need to build a system around one to try it out. This guide is awesome for what I need so thanks Jason (and Sarah... and KITTIES). Well done. ROG Strix B650E-I and new Tower 200 case ordered for new AM5 project. Thanks again.
Thanks for these videos Jason. I was wondering if you ever do a segment with troubleshooting parts, as I’m having that issue at the moment 😅😢. I bought most of my parts from your videos this year, and now I’m going through the horrible process of figuring why my 7900xtx isn’t showing on monitor after playing games fine for the first few hours. It would be an amazing segment, imo, if you did troubleshooting of what happens when folks turn it on the first time, or problems down the line.
Great video, Jason! Quick tip for potential mid range builders, Newegg has some awesome bundles on sale with new 9000 cpus for example a 9600x and TUF B850 for $369.99 which makes both the CPU and Mobo $185 each!
Hey Jason, another great video. I would have like to hear more about M.2 lanes and the differences in how these boards allocate the lanes when using different PCIE slots. Maybe that should be a whole video. Thanks!
@@trueNahobino True, but not all MB allocate slots in the same way and that can be a significant factor in deciding which MB to get. One of the many reasons why the Asrock X870E Nova is so popular (and often out-of-stock).
Not planning to upgrade till we fully populate the Mars but its interesting to see the development of brands and models in terms of features and quality/price. Imo, a ton of people cheap out on those and its equally easy to overspend too. Alongside PSUs they are the most complex parts of the PC and I definitely wouldnt want to cheap out on those if I value my system. Still very happy with my b550 Tomahawk. Rocksolid board for a 5800x3D+ 7900XTX nitro+. I will most likely stick with MSI for the next purchase.
Hey Jason, I love your educational bits at the beginning of each video but i would really like to see an unlimited spending category included toward the end!
Glad you are enjoying! Thanks for the feedback. We do have our "extreme" recommendations at the end of the video. Is there more on that you would like to see?
Like you had x870 and x870e boards on your desk but they didn't get mentioned in the extreme gaming and creator mobo section. I understand you want to save everyone money but it's still fun to talk about these ultra high end parts in more detail.
Got ya. I went ahead and added some into the description. Keep in mind though I really don't recommend that over X670E. X670E is not only cheaper but actually slightly better due to the pcie lane requirements. But I added the ones I would recommend if one really wanted a X870 (:
Got a rog strix b650e-f gaming wifi for my new 9800x3d build. Came with all the features I was looking for. Wifi, good audio, 3 nvme slots, bios flashback and decent io. Cheaper than the 870 models. Ran into a few bugs with windows 11 version 24H2 and was able to fix by removing armoury crate, only thing that sucks is not being able to control the rgb. Using my older rx6800 gpu with it until my 7900 xtx gets here. 😃
I am glad I got my B550 Tuf Gaming at 140 bucks in 2022. I absolutely love the Tuf aesthetics. But thabks to your videos, I knew what features to look for, and how much it should cost.
I picked up the Asus Strix B850-F and it’s been great so far. The only issue I came across was during Windows setup it didn’t detect WiFi or LAN, but I bypassed it to set up a local account. Other than that, driver setup was super easy and it works great with Armoury Crate. Would definitely recommend!
Glad you like it! It's a great board. Only reason I didn't' recommend it was because the B650E-F is such a good deal right now. Glad you're enjoying it and congrats on the build!
B850M Gaming X from Gigabyte, really nice board for €195. Paired it with a 9700X because of low power use and integrated graphics. And now I'm waiting for a decent new GPU.
Upgraded analogue audio is a legacy feature these days. Even budget usb DACS give far superior sound to anything built in. For me it’s not a feature I would pay a premium for any more. I recently rebuilt my desktop gaming PC with a 7600x and ASRock A620i Lightning and I super happy with it. The Peerless Assassin Mini is an awesome cpu cooler by the way you should check it out.
The ASUS Prime X670E-PRO WiFi looks like the mobo I would want for a new build. 4 NVME slots? Sexy AF at the price of $210. Great video and breakdown. Love it. I'd be curious to see a round-up of your favorite cases by price point. I don't think I've seen you do a video like that.
I just wish that Msi would get their act together and launch all the B850 boards they announced. All so pretty pictures but nothing to show for it. Really looking forward to the MSI MAG B850M Mortar, just hoping it will priced so its worth picking up.
I just bought an ASRock B650 Steel Legend Wifi 6E for $169 after watching some of your videos, just waiting for it to build my PC, I was going to cheap out on motherboard if not for your videos, thanks
That is a great motherboard, it was going to be in these recommendations because it finally looked like it was going to stay in stock for more than a week. Then the day I went to film it was out of stock and has stayed out of stock! LOL
Hey Jason! Awesome job, love your content! I was able to snag a B650 Steel Legend some time ago and I have now upgraded to a R7 9800X3D and a RTX 5080 Aero. I think I'll be just fine with this B650 board, right?
It's a great board, but IMO all the X870E boards are massively overpriced given they are just a refresh of X670E. When we update this video later in the year I'm betting prices will change and we'll recommend some X870E boards then.
Man things change fast, the Pro RS and M-E Tuf mobo's are gone. Try the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2, best motherboard right now for up to 9800x3d cpu, no wifi though.
Got the X870E Strix to house my 9800X3D as all X670E here in the Philippines at the time of purchase were either out of stock or same price for the X870E. Got them before end of 2024 as I feared the price increase because of the new tariffs that will take effect in 2025. These cpu/mobo are to be paired with my Nitro+ 7900XTX.
I did purchase a B650 Tomahawk but later found a ASRock B850 Pro-A Wi-Fi costed the same. I figured I should pickup the B850 for it’s Gen 5 GPU slot. Given that both motherboards were priced the same at that time. I might as well.
Perfect timing! Just bought a 9800x3d and can't decide which motherboard to buy, I literally spent a whole day and I still couldn't pick one... Hopefully your video will help me decide.
If you want the freedom of slapping in many NVMe drives WITHOUT reduced speeds get the X series boards. Plenty of times they can be similar in price. Not only do you usually get 4+ M2 slots but the expansion slots are also able to take more bandwidth. So for a longer term board that you want the most storage ability then go X670/X870.
Same. ASRock taichit hot Just out of stock But the live Mixer from the video looks promising. I don't want an Asus board, because Asus seems to have some warranty issues. Helpful video as always
It's a weird one. It's got midrange features in a high end chipset for a mediocre price. ASUS Prime X670E-Pro is substantially better for about the same price.
Thanks for the reference! I am in the midst of my new build right now. I'm collecting parts. I finally got a Ryzen 7 9800X3D but I don't know what the best memory is for it.
Give the GPU market a month. 5070 Ti launch stock looks very weak. RX 9000 stock looks strong but the demand will be insane given the massive undersupply of 50 series. But it will start getting better.
I have recently started using the optical output of my B550 with a 2.1 soundbar. It replaced a Creative 5.1 speaker system It cut out almost 1/2 of the total system wiring with better sound and control. Therefore , when I upgrade to b650 or b850, I will need the optical output. I noticed that most of the boards do not have this output. I will go through this video again when I upgrade later this year.
Hi Jason! I have recently built a new PC with the MSI Tomahawk X870 WiFi, and was fortunate enough to get an R7 9800X3D for MSRP at Microcenter. Also at Microcenter I picked up an MSI Gaming Trio RTX 5080. I have submitted my config to Paul's Hardware, and was lucky enough to get a full video response from him (the video titled "DON’T Choose the Wrong Parts for..."); among his advices (which I mostly approve of), he criticized my motherboard choice, saying that I should have gone with an X670E or X870E chipset. For my use case (I am using only one PCI-E 4.0 SSD, and don't need that many USB ports) I am pretty happy with my choice. What do you think about it? Thanks for the video!
What are your thoughts on the NZXT N9 X870E? I like the design of the board but I’m not a fan of how basic ASRock bios is. It would be interesting to have you mention bios features in future videos as a factor to consider.
It is supposedly coming Q1, but hard to say given the NZXT scandal and how that is scrambling everything over there. I am considering just a standalone video on bios differences between the 4 board makers.
At this point I’m waiting for the AM6 platform before I upgrade again. Got a 5700x3d on a b450msi tomahawk paired with a 7900xt so I am solid till 2028
Hey Jason, I'm planning on buying and assembling a new PC soon and wanted to know your opinions on my parts list: Mobo - Gigabyte B650 X AX v2 CPU - Ryzen 5 7600x RAM - G.skill Flare x5 2x16gb 6000mhz CL30 CPU cooler - Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB GPU - Gigabyte RX7800 XT PSU - Corsair RM750e Case - Montech AIR 903 MAX Haven't decided on storage yet. What do you think? Originally I wanted the Team group delta rgb kit, but I assume that it may not fit under the large Peerless Assassin. I was also wondering about the case having 2 USB3 connectors while the mobo has only 1 USB3 slot, do the 2 wires from the case merge into 1 and so are both still able to be connected? Would also love to hear any other things to consider or potential improvements!
Looks good to me. Might want to see what AMD launches for the $400-$500 price point with the 9000 series before grabbing a 7800 XT. You can seat the cooler fan higher to accommodate the ram if necessary, or go with a budget tower air cooler (single tower) as that is plenty for the 7600X.
@@PCBuilderChannel I thought about waiting, but I'm afraid that the stock for those GPU probably isn't going to be very high for a while with scalpers, and I'm also largely worried about the likely tariffs coming to the US causing price increases, despite living in Europe, I'd assume there's a likelihood it could still affect us even here. Thanks for the response!
Yes. I was waiting for this video, since the ASRock taichi b650e Lite is no longer available. I hope I will find something similar. Let's watch it Edit: the ASRock live Mixer looks promising
I appreciate you covering all the aspects, like not needing the PCIe 5.0 slots. I’m looking at the AORUS B650M Elite AX-is it good for a midrange Ryzen 7 + RTX 3080 build? What’s your opinion? Thanks!
I have a b650 aorus elite with a 7700/6800xt. 2 years no issues. Jason said in another post the gigabyte boards tend to have a worse analog audio solution, but if you’re running usb that won’t matter.
I’ve bin following you for a few years now, I like how you break everything down. I’m still on gigabyte b550m ds3h lol but I have upgraded to the 5800x3d and I have a 4090 and 1000 watt psu I think it’s time to upgrade what do you think Jason ? I’m looking to go am5 I was looking at the 9800x3d mobo combo at micro center with ram for about 1000 US dollars that’s gonna be my next upgrade is that a good deal ? It’s the ASUS x870e rog strix gaming WiFi g skill flare x5 series 32 gb ram ddr5-6000 is that a good upgrade for the price ?
Wow, a 4090 on a B550M DS3H!!! I broke the GPU slot on one with an RX 7700 XT because it was too heavy (no GPU reinforcement on it). Congrats on getting the 4090 on it! Micro Center deals are usually quite good but they do use more midrange motherboards rather than premium ones. But those are typically fine for a 9800X3D.
@PC Builder I currently do not have a pc so any gpu is an upgrade, I want a 5080 Msi gaming trio white version, but do you think nvidia will restock the 5080 for gamers and not just AI? If I am patient do you think I can get that specific model easily in a few months without looking at trackers or should I just plan to get a 5070? I prefer the specific 5080 model i mentioned and I prefer nvidia gpus because I think the games I play work better with nvidia gpus
Hi Jason Thank you for this awesome video❤ after your permission I have a question i am gona build an budget gaming pc using am4 In my country the b550-a pro and the b550m pro-vdh are in the same price What motherboard should i get ❤
I want to build in the Lian li A3-mATX case. I'm looking at the ryzen 9700x paired with the 5070ti (if I can grab one). What motherboard should I go with?
I got the x670e-a rog strix Mobo for $250 and it looks amazing and has plenty of bells and whistles but I literally cannot find anyone who actually covers the board.
I couldn’t find any smoking deals on used or open box for my shop pc. I settled on a ASrock B650M PG lightning WIFI for $119. WiFi and 3 NVMe (1 is gen5). I really wanted optical out for easy digital 2 channel stereo to my receiver. I’m using HDMI out of GPU to the receiver for audio but now I have the hassle of the system thinking it’s a monitor. Compared to all my Gigabyte and Asus 600 series board I really like ASrocks motherboard software. Very small 60mb program and straightforward. Way better than the bloat on Gigabyte and Asus.
hi jason, why is the latest ASUS ROG STRIX B850-F GAMING WIFI not included in the recommendations? I am interested in this MOBO is the price too expensive for the features offered ?
Overpriced basically. It's a great board, but it's just a refresh of the B650E-F which is cheaper (and we recommended). But if it has something you want, grab it.
I wish ASRock had a bigger presence in my country. There are only a few of the AM5 models on sale but at least they're still reasonably priced. Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte mobos cost a pretty penny.
Jason I have a question for you Pc part picker tells me that my mobo msi mag b650 needs a bios update for 9800x3d Msi mag b650 has bios flashback feature. But before doing the needed bios update I assembled all the parts (all of them are brand new). So the question is this, do I need to disassemble everything to update the bios or is it okay for the parts to stay to update the bios?
⛔STOP BUYING BAD MOTHERBOARDS!⛔ Hey Jason! Not much time because of KCDII, lol. But thanks for this video! You helped me a lot with my new pc build in last month...✌🏻
no e870 recommendations or are you grouping those in with the 870E and didn't like any of them? I went with the Tomahawk X870 wifi board for my 9800x3d build with 5080 card. I had to work within the limitations of Cyberpowers selections and my budget. It wasn't much more to step up to the X870 Tomahawk!
We'll likely update this video a couple times this year given that the whole Ryzen Mobo market is in massive flux. Right now I don't like any of the X870E vs the current insane value X670E given they are exactly the same chipset. But I do think they've improved the styling on X870E and it has the easy build features, so these are still amazing boards.
I am looking having a open wall mounted pc . Mainly for playing/streaming 4k videos or binge watchin tv shows , what g series ryzen would you recommend ? Basically a htpc
There are wall mounted cases that will support a GPU. Many of them vertically mount the GPU using a PCIE riser cable. I don't love any of the current desktop APUs, but if forced to choose one I'd go for the 8700G.
For me, a big part of the motherboard is the software. The MSI center works well and looks good. My Gigabyte software sucks and installing updates is a buggy mess.
I hate them all. I find all the different apps in MSI Center incomprehensible and duplicative, ASUS's armory crate is crazy buggy and decides to break my RGB every couple months for a week or two, ASRock's are ok but weak RGB integration, and Gigabyte has some good features but I hate RGB Fusion.
Hey Jason, was really expecting for you to cover the ASRock B850 Riptide 😮 can you please give your opinion on that one, specifically for a 7800x3d combo? Thanks 🙏
Same board as the Steel Legend, just different color (maybe other minor differences). I don't love ASRock's trend of cutting down the number of capacitors in the audio section to just 2 on those boards, though I'm not sure if it actually matters (would require testing). And it's a bit expensive compared to the Live Mixer. But if you like that styling, go for it!
Hey jason i have a b660m hdv by asrock its probably one of the worst b660 motherboards, i was wondering if it would be either fine to upgrade to a 14600k/f or switch to am5 which would need to buy new ram and motherboard aswell
While a video that goes over multiple motherboards can be useful, except that you actually skipped the x870, which is what i was actually interested in, it would be better to either have shorter videos or make it easier to just skip the the section of motherboards someone actually cares about.
I added some X870E listings in the video description. As I say in the video, X870E is just X670E with a requirement to use PCIE lanes for USB 4 ports (which most folks don't need). But if you want an X870E, check out the ones I've listed in the description.
What do you think about the ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F is it too much? I'm deciding on it because there's a bundle deal that comes with 9800X3D and 6000mhz CL30 32GB for 969$ I'm in EU btw
leaning towards msi mpg x870E carbon wifi bc its loaded with usbs and its at a good price in my country. does b850 and x670 have lane sharing? bc almost all x870E use lane sharing
There can be some bifurcation issues on the super high end boards because they are hitting the PCIE limit for the chipset. Some X870E split lanes between one or more M.2 (typically the PCIE Gen 5 one) and the USB 4 port, while others do it between the main PCIE GPU slot and Gen 5 M.2 (I don't like this way). Consult the specs on the model you want.
Good thing I got a white b650e motherboard for $180
4 години тому
Im building an all white. Grabbed an x870 gigabyte ice on sale but I’m waiting on one thing… an all white 5090. I may have to consider AMD cards. If they price them right, I won’t even bother waiting for the 5090.
Something to note for people refusing to update to Windows 11 check compatibility. WiFi 7 will not work on Windows 10 Additionally some MB manufactures dont supply Windows 10 drivers for 800 series boards.
Wifi 7 will work on Win 10, but it works like Wifi 6 so you don't get any extra benefits. At this point my strong advice to everyone is to migrate over to Win 11 with the upcoming end of updates for Win 10 in October. Security alone is an insanely strong reason.
PCBuilder has Gigabyte explained why they abandoned high end audio on the midrange AM5 motherboards? Do they just assume that everyone is running a DAC these days? I was hoping that they would bring back high end audio on the B850 boards.
I asked the reps at CES, they weren't really sure. I told them I wasn't going to list any of their boards in the premium or extreme category until they did. Sad because their B550 lineup was hands down the best value but honestly I think they are the weakest AM5 lineup. Not to say that some of their individual boards aren't good, and pricing changes can fix a lot too.
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you! I am currently running a Gigabyte X570S AORUS Elite AX but I have not been impressed with their AM5 lineup - you are right though, expectations go with the price.
Yes. Right now the GPU market is struggling a bit because NVIDIA ended production of RTX 4000 too early and only launched a tiny number of new GPUs. Will likely sort itself out in the next month or two (fingers crossed!) with AMD launching the RX 9000 series GPUs. If you're good with what you have right now, I'd wait a month or two until things settle out.
Despite ASUS being a butt in some areas, like customer support and what not,i had no negative experience with their products. My current 3070 is an OC gaming TUF edition, along with my motherboard, z490 TUF. Now that i'm middle of platform switch,to AM5,still going for the recommended b650 gaming plus TUF. Only thing i stay away if it's asus,it's the PSU. Not necesarrily because it is bad,but i rather trust long known brands for their PSU quality, rathern then ASUS,who got their rep from gpus/motherboards.
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you for your response, i was wondering which motherboard to upgrade from my am4 setup and considered this one, mostly for having the option of ryzen 7000 and 9000 without touching the bios (it scares me)
How many watt psu do you recommend for 7700x 7800xt build? And some room for upgrading... Maybe to a similar future generation 9800x3d and 5080 (I mean 11800x3d and 6080)
Check out our best PSU 2024 video in the how to build a PC playlist on the channel. We go through how to calculate it (1.5 times the max rated draw in PC Part Picker).
@PCBuilderChannel I watched it. In the pc part picker it is showing 603 watts and i multiplied it by 1.5 to get 904... Is 850 w psu a good option? Msi mag a850gl?
An A-tier rated 850w PSU on the PSU cultist list would be fine for a 7800xt. If you want the futureproofing, grab an A-tier rated 1000w PSU. Nothin wrong with having the headroom. The PSU doesn't draw more power than it needs and the extra would compensate for potential voltage spikes. Just make sure to get an A-tier rated PSU, it is worth every penny to choose from the best performers of fully tested and reviewed PSU's by experts. Being able to count on your PSU is super overlooked imo. People want to go for the deal, personally I think the PSU is something that should never be skimped on. I mean if you get a surge or something bad happens a PSU frying can possibly take the rest of the system with it. Call me paranoid and I'll embrace it lol I'll take the peace of mind any day.
I have a Corsair rm750e for my 7700/6800xt. Should be plenty for a 7700x/7800xt. Psu typically runs most efficient around 80% utilization and gives you headroom for potential power spikes. 603w/.8=753.75 W. If you want to later upgrade to a 5080(360w) or similarly power hungry gpu I’d probably grab an 850w. 675w/.8=843.75 W.
What about the 870 motherboards? You make brief mention of them, but no board descriptions or recommendations. Also, some of us actually care about how much ram the board supports, you don't mention this, nor do you mention how many slots for ram. Looks like most have 4. My last pc build has 8. While most people today are probably using SSD for new builds, When I buy or build a new PC, I often migrate components to the new PC, especially things like hard drives. While ssds are clearly faster, storing large files that are less time sensitive for loading (movies, pictures, large documents, etc.) are just fine for real hard drives, especially if you already own the drives and are just moving them to the new PC. Just don't have the OS or pagefile on the hard drive.
@@trueNahobino They may have even been true when I did my last build, since 1950x is a thread ripper cpu. The real question isn't how many memory slots are available, but how much memory can I put in them. 64 or 128GB, though unless I'm working with VMs or am using LLMs in RAM instead of VRAM, 64GB is probably enough and 4 memory slots would probably be enough.
Can I upgrade my ASUS ROG Stryx B450-F Gaming II motherboard from Ryzen 5600x to Ryzen 5700X3D CPU -- and at same time upgrade RTX2060-TI-SUPER (8GB) to RX-6800 16GB Graphics card ?????? PS: want to put a Noctua -D15 G2 Cooler for that 5700X3D.... is that OK ?
Only thing that would be more “future proof” would be pcie gen 5 GPU slots (which I personally don’t think will be needed anytime in the lifetime of the board) but other chipsets have it too. See the pcie gen 5 GPU section for more
$99 for that board is an insane value. Was that open box or something? I was going to list it as an alternative budget board but at $139 it isn't competitive with the others, but at $99 it's amazing!
I bought the wrong board!!! I built a 285K based creator system on a MSI Z890 Tomahawk when I should have used a MSI Z890 Gaming Plus that has the second USB connector to connect my 5.25in bay mounted port hub. My SD and Micro SD ports work which is the most important issue but I could have had all ports working had I known.

May I ask was it from Ali, and what company? Am considering it, but seems a bit risky. Thank you!
I alredy got a b850 tomahawk, but watching hoping I got a good one!
Good board for sure. I feel it's overpriced at $229 given the competition, but you won't be disappointed with it!
Great explainer video. I was watching your previous one on motherboards to understand but this one explains well.
Thanks, I hope it was helpful!
Great video, Jason! Quick tip for potential mid range builders, Newegg has some awesome bundles on sale with new 9000 cpus for example a 9600x and TUF B850 for $369.99 which makes both the CPU and Mobo $185 each!
Wow, I'm going to check those out right now!!!
@ yup! And some bundles have a free 500gb SSD promo now too. Figured to mention it just incase 😄
I appreciate still including the B550 boards, I'm using a 5800x and considering an upgrade from x470 to get gen 4 pcie.
Hey Jason, another great video. I would have like to hear more about M.2 lanes and the differences in how these boards allocate the lanes when using different PCIE slots. Maybe that should be a whole video. Thanks!
The motherboard specs sheet will usually list which slots, both M.2 and PCIE, are affected based on which ones are used.
@@trueNahobino True, but not all MB allocate slots in the same way and that can be a significant factor in deciding which MB to get. One of the many reasons why the Asrock X870E Nova is so popular (and often out-of-stock).
Good video, Jay! Have a great weekend, brother!
Thanks, man! You too!
@@PCBuilderChannel gotchya, thank you!
gonna be building my first pc soon and thinking about the b650 tomohawk. Glad its on the list
That's exciting, good luck with the build! Thanks for tuning in :)
We love to hear that!!
Such a wonderful video thank you for all the information it's most appreciative
Thank you so much! That means a lot! :)
You're very welcome! Glad you appreciate all the info :D
Love my Asrock b650m Pro RS. Good price and it has 3 NVME slots. I also love the Black white grey color scheme
Just finished my first ever build, the stars aligned and the B650 Steel Legend WiFi was available on Amazon of all things
That's great! Congrats on your first build!! If you build it, it will run :))
The multitudes of references give one a headache, thank you very much for these clarifications.
Thanks for clarifying "differences" between B850 and B650 once and for all!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you are having a great weekend Anton!
@ Thank you, no worries🙌
The ASUS Prime X670E-PRO WiFi looks like the mobo I would want for a new build. 4 NVME slots? Sexy AF at the price of $210. Great video and breakdown. Love it.
I'd be curious to see a round-up of your favorite cases by price point. I don't think I've seen you do a video like that.
Heck yea, I was able to find the white asrock b650 wifi in stock. I think it looks better than the more expensive options
LOL
@@PCBuilderChannel Yes, it was really hard getting it at that price on Amazon, now is over arround $220-300, I am so excited for it
Hey Jason! Awesome job, love your content! I was able to snag a B650 Steel Legend some time ago and I have now upgraded to a R7 9800X3D and a RTX 5080 Aero. I think I'll be just fine with this B650 board, right?
got the Asus Rog Strix B850 A with a 7900x love it so far
i just got my build days ago. i'm using the B650M-E motherboard w Ryzen 7 7800X3D cpu and Sapphire Radeon RX7800XT card.
still rockin a 5900x with a b550 white asus rog with 64 gigs of 3600 ram and a EVGA FTW 3070. Not ready to switch up, works great for me!
AsRock x870e NOVA is always hyped in forums. But i never see videos about it? Is it actually good?
It's a great board, but IMO all the X870E boards are massively overpriced given they are just a refresh of X670E. When we update this video later in the year I'm betting prices will change and we'll recommend some X870E boards then.
Man things change fast, the Pro RS and M-E Tuf mobo's are gone. Try the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2, best motherboard right now for up to 9800x3d cpu, no wifi though.
Great video as always!!
Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed this one ;)
There are like 9 bazillion motherboards so having gone through all of them over the last 2 weeks I feel your pain! Hopefully this helps!
Which motherboard you will go for?
If you want the freedom of slapping in many NVMe drives WITHOUT reduced speeds get the X series boards. Plenty of times they can be similar in price. Not only do you usually get 4+ M2 slots but the expansion slots are also able to take more bandwidth. So for a longer term board that you want the most storage ability then go X670/X870.
Same.
ASRock taichit hot Just out of stock
But the live Mixer from the video looks promising. I don't want an Asus board, because Asus seems
to have some warranty issues.
Helpful video as always
Lol, I was just looking at AM5 boards. Great timing.
Crazy I was just researching AM5 boards
Love it when the timing is good!
What do you guys think of the MSI x670e gaming plus wifi? Im surprised to no see it in this video
See our best ram for gaming 2024 video. Hasn't changed. DDR6 6000 CL30 or CL28.
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you! I was wondering if any of the higher 6400, 6600, or 7k+ memory would be of any benefit for gaming. Thank you again!
@@PCBuilderChannelJASON!!! It’s ddr5! 😂
Was literally thinking about this yesterday after realizing all gpus I wanted are sold out or too expensive now.
Just a few days ago I could have gotten a power color 7800xt for 499.00. Now it's 900 just a couple days later. Sad.
Hey Jason, I'm planning on buying and assembling a new PC soon and wanted to know your opinions on my parts list:
Mobo - Gigabyte B650 X AX v2
CPU - Ryzen 5 7600x
RAM - G.skill Flare x5 2x16gb 6000mhz CL30
CPU cooler - Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB
GPU - Gigabyte RX7800 XT
PSU - Corsair RM750e
Case - Montech AIR 903 MAX
Haven't decided on storage yet.
Let's watch it
Edit: the ASRock live Mixer looks promising
Hi Jason
Thank you for this awesome video❤ after your permission I have a question i am gona build an budget gaming pc using am4
In my country the b550-a pro and the b550m pro-vdh are in the same price
What motherboard should i get ❤
picking up my Asrock B650 PG lightning today for $140 at MC 🎉
Gigabyte is also offering their X870 version of the elite WiFi7 Ice for the same price as the B850 asus rog at 30:54!
Nice video! Is the B850 Aorus Elite worth it with a 9800x3D?
It's a fine board, but no upgraded audio. If you don't care about that, it is great.
hi jason, why is the latest ASUS ROG STRIX B850-F GAMING WIFI not included in the recommendations?
I am interested in this MOBO
is the price too expensive for the features offered ?
Overpriced basically. It's a great board, but it's just a refresh of the B650E-F which is cheaper (and we recommended). But if it has something you want, grab it.
@@PCBuilderChannel thank you sir, you are the best
I wish ASRock had a bigger presence in my country. There are only a few of the AM5 models on sale but at least they're still reasonably priced. Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte mobos cost a pretty penny.
Yes prices are going to vary heavily by region, that's why I always try and give alternatives. Hope you get something good!
Cool Thumbnail!
Jason I have a question for you
Pc part picker tells me that my mobo msi mag b650 needs a bios update for 9800x3d
Msi mag b650 has bios flashback feature.
Congrats on the build!!!! :)
@PCBuilderChannel Thank you! I'm happy with it!
no e870 recommendations or are you grouping those in with the 870E and didn't like any of them?
@PCBuilderChannel thank you jason .
How does the msi x670e gaming plus wifi compare to the tomahawk? The gaming plus is currently only $190
as for Audio on MBs. I would just buy external audio card and doesn't look as audio codecs on motherboards at all.
Building a new PC and found your channel back in Nov 2024 to get a refresh on latest tech landscape. Excellent summary!
Thank you!!!! Glad we could help!
What are your thoughts on the Gigabyte Aorus B650m AX WI-FI at $200?
Hey Jason, was really expecting for you to cover the ASRock B850 Riptide 😮 can you please give your opinion on that one, specifically for a 7800x3d combo? Thanks 🙏
Same board as the Steel Legend, just different color (maybe other minor differences). I don't love ASRock's trend of cutting down the number of capacitors in the audio section to just 2 on those boards, though I'm not sure if it actually matters (would require testing). And it's a bit expensive compared to the Live Mixer. But if you like that styling, go for it!
They have ALC 4082 now.... ASROCK X870E NOVA has it I think
Very small deviation. Consider it the same as ALC4080.
hi. what motherboard to pair with 7700x ?
Just got a 7900XTX, will it be good with a b450 and 5800X3D?
I have B650 tomahwak , should I sell it and buy B850 tomahwwk or aorous elite?
Is B850 plus wifi a good option for 9800x3d and 5080?
Hey jason i have a b660m hdv by asrock its probably one of the worst b660 motherboards, i was wondering if it would be either fine to upgrade to a 14600k/f or switch to am5 which would need to buy new ram and motherboard aswell
I currently have a 12400f
If you get it in a bundle go for it. Great board but overpriced by itself IMO.
Does the X670E motherboards work out the box with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D? Or it needs a bio flash update?
Probably needs a bios flash. Only ones that are really guaranteed are the B850 motherboards that just came out. It's super easy to do.
Ah! Time for Jason to take us to school again. 😅
Indeed--let's jump into it! :D Thanks so much for watching.
leaning towards msi mpg x870E carbon wifi bc its loaded with usbs and its at a good price in my country. does b850 and x670 have lane sharing? bc almost all x870E use lane sharing
Good thing I got a white b650e motherboard for $180
Im building an all white. Grabbed an x870 gigabyte ice on sale but I’m waiting on one thing… an all white 5090. I may have to consider AMD cards. If they price them right, I won’t even bother waiting for the 5090.
The Ice boards look so damn good. I just wish the B850s had better audio features. The X870 one is amazing!
Wondering what board would be ideal to use with a rx 7900 xtx and a ryzen 9 7950x3d
Any of the premium picks, so any of the Best for Gaming, Best for Creator Builds/Gaming. Best extreme boards.
@PCBuilderChannel awesome. Thank you, I'm glad to have found your channel. Very helpful and informative . Cheers
Something to note for people refusing to update to Windows 11 check compatibility. WiFi 7 will not work on Windows 10
Additionally some MB manufactures dont supply Windows 10 drivers for 800 series boards.
Is it a good time to upgrade if i have a 11600k and 3070? Going for 9800x3d.
What do you think of gigabyte b850m aorus elite ice?
Good board if you want mATX with all white connectors.
Only high end thread rippers get 8 slots for RAM now, all consumer boards are 2-4 slots.
Isn’t x870 more future proof comparing b650?
Only thing that would be more “future proof” would be pcie gen 5 GPU slots (which I personally don’t think will be needed anytime in the lifetime of the board) but other chipsets have it too. See the pcie gen 5 GPU section for more
Just made a B580 build with a "GIGABYTE B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI AM5"
I really didn't see much reviews on it but got it for $99. Did i screw up boss?
$99 for that board is an insane value. Was that open box or something? I was going to list it as an alternative budget board but at $139 it isn't competitive with the others, but at $99 it's amazing!
I bought the wrong board!!! I built a 285K based creator system on a MSI Z890 Tomahawk when I should have used a MSI Z890 Gaming Plus that has the second USB connector to connect my 5.25in bay mounted port hub. My SD and Micro SD ports work which is the most important issue but I could have had all ports working had I known.
B550 for life
