Better to just use a 24volt fridge compressor. They consume about 45watts and can reach freezing temperatures. More practical. Peltiers are more effective at generating high heat than at cooling
With 45 watt compressor, you can cool down 10 liter small fridge. Not 2000 liter car! Otherwise, car manufacturer could use that compressor and we would be able to cool down the car for 10 hours only with 45 amp 12 volts car battery.

Just to give you an idea of how insane the amount of heat is inside a vehicle in the sun in hot weather, hear this personal experience- I tried to cool just the front two seat area of a step van one time, using a generator and a rooftop RV air conditioner. I bought the rooftop ac brand new, and I think it was 12,000 or 16,000 BTU's. It blew really cold air, but when the sun was shining and it was hot, it was not nearly enough to cool down the cab. It felt hotter having the ac on with the doors closed than it did with the ac off and the doors open. And I closed off every place where hot air could be leaking in, but it didn't matter. The front cab was airtight, but it didn't matter, because the heat from the sun and the hot air outside were just way too much, and the aluminum body was also a very poor insulator. So I bought a huge 20,000 btu wall unit ac and put it on the roof, and it was actually able to cool the cab down just a little bit and make it comfortable, but still not like really refreshingly cool. And the generator could barely run it most of the time, so I just took it out and dealt with the heat from that point on. Cars have better insulation than an aluminum step van, but it isn't that much better with all the windows and how thin the roof panel is and how hot everything gets just from sitting in the sun. So you need at least 18,000-24,000 BTU's just to get a car comfortable enough to not sweat in within 5 minutes after baking in the sun in a hot parking lot for a couple of hours.

If I understood it correctly 🤔 So sacrifice power to efficiency If I remember correctly at full power those modules are like 5% efficient at full power But what is the efficiency at 1/3 or 1/6 power?
Why use liquid to transfer heat? Replace the headliner with the Peltier blocks, so it cools the interior from the top down & there is air flow over the other side (the roof).
Cool that you realised this built, I was thinking of a thermoelectric AC but came to the conclusion that it will not be strong enough. First thermoelectric (peltier) generates far more heat than it takes out of the cooling medium. So its more of a outdoor heater... and with water there is no phase change but only the temperature difference of the water. The phase change carries much more energy though. gas->liquid->gas The problem with water is that this happens at 100C so not really fits for cooling. You can use the solid-> liquid phasechange by manually putting a bucket of icecubes into the car and blow a fan on it.
i already tried those ice bucket and blower.. i did use a radiator to harness the low temperature and it's cold for 5mins and all ice is melted.. yes peltier is inefficient for cooling, but for those who are curious for what if.. then there it is 😁 I'm curious to back then.. 😅
how can I contact you? And if you install a 24-rod pelt 12703 at 3 amperes, then the power will be two times less? I want to set it to 12 volts. Does the thermostat maintain the set temperature in the cabin?
I would think that you could place a bucket full of Ice Cubes under your hood. Have a hole in the Bucket with a 12V Computer Fan blowing through - onto the ice. Then take two plastic flexible hoses (output from the ice-filled Bucket) inside the car. A hole in the bottom of the bucket would drain off water. Just fill with ice when your journey begins - from your Refrigerator. I am sure that this would give you 30 minutes of cooling whilst driving. Somebody should make a video of this, because Peltiers just do not work efficiently in that application. Alternatively, make a cheap Evaporative Cooler System. that draws only 500mA. I did admire the work and effort involved in the making of this video. Greetings from Australia.
-Very large heatsinks... passive convection- sorry, forgot the small part. Other solution would be undervolted fans held in place by soft suspension as not to impart vibrations into HIFi box.
In reality, he used 24.8 volts, so the amperage is approximately 23, but experience shows us that it is worth doing it and eliminating the problems of the compressor?

Wouldn’t be a bit easier, and possibly achieving the same result if you would have used 6 240mm cooling blocks? I was thinking about this right after watching your video. I think it would simplify much more your project and achieve similar temps.
You should have put a 1/2” space in the middle for a 3rd bolt so the outter boxes don’t just flex. Regardless, thermoelectric coolers have less temperature variation than a regular phase change system (like a normal AC) and use more power. IE there is a reason AC systems are dominant for large temperature charges. Even electric car still use AC systems driven by an electric motor instead of the engine. Most car AC will give you 20 degree C difference instead of the 7 you got there. For the US, he went from 80F to 68F, while a normal car AC in 80f ambient should result in 40F output at the vents, minimum.
Need to get rid of the heat generated from the peltiers and separate as much as possible from the cool side. Still horribly inefficient, but may be a life saver with enough solar panels to drive it and a small insulated box to escape to! Transferring the compressor and tubes from a refrigerator would be cheaper and more efficient too.
so ,this being your second version ,did it work better than the first ,the first seemed to have destroyed your engine bay by the looks of it,this one didnt work that well either did it ,for the effort, peltiers just dont ever work the way you want them to ,cheers guys
Great idea except for a couple of problems and that is BTU capacity and efficiency. [A BTU is the energy required to heat or cool cubic foot 1degree] Peltier coolers are a last resort cooling because they are sooo inefficient. The device created may cool a small ice chest but certainly not a car. You would have to mount a 300-amp alternator to the engine, run it at its max and have more than a 100 of his devices connected to it.
Good work but keep in mind, TEP are very inefficient when it comes to power to work ratio.Nothing beats a good old compressor cooling system. I would hunt for a 200 watt compressor and make an ac from it, it should beat this peltier experiment.
at 600w youre better off installing the guts of small house air conditioner or a heatpump of some sort. they would use less power by being more efficient at both power usage and the amount of heat they could pull out of the cabin. you could easily cut power usage down to 200-300 watts when running full power. even a cheap portable aircon running off an inverter would only use about 400w peak and they are horribly inefficient. its a "cool" idea though, the install was very neatly done
I've never seen an ac that pulls less than 1500w (maybe 1300), plus the huge startup draw. Maybe some really expensive camper AC units, but I think most of those are 1200watts.
@@Dan-yk6sy i have a cheapo chinese portable unit, 2.5kw cooling, it uses a lot as a surge at startup but once it is running it settles down to under 500w once everything is up and running
That is used to disperse the heat generated which allows for a hot side and a cold side. The more heat dispersed on the rad the colder grill on the cold side would get.
Use old refrigirator pump make copper coils and fan blow into them and power inverter 12v to 220v. At 400w use you will get more than kilowatt cooling power. Peltier have small efficiency and from power used you get an fraction of cooling power
ye but 1300W in a ac compressor has atleast 3000W (probably more) of thermal moving power, peltier modules literally will only move about as much as they pull
Why is it impossible to find an ac less than 1500watts? Especially with all the tiny homes and off grid cabins you'd think there'd be some Chinese 600 or 800 watt AC units for off grid or something.
@@Dan-yk6sy Reasons would be a house leaks in heat in the summer, and outside the house the heat is coming down at an avg rate of near kW per square meter during sun hours. To cool something, in summer with a puny compressor you basically need to be living in a large well insulated walk in freezer. Problem is you will need a constant supply of fresh air as not to be asphyxiated = warm air (with moisture) will be forced in, pushing out the cold air. That is an added heat load on compressor. A human is generating heat by just being there, adding another 100W or so per person IF they are at rest, any phys activity will instantly add a higher heat load. Any equipment in the "cool room" will emit heat. Computer / Laptop, monitor / TV, lights, tea kettle, cellphone chargers, stereo equipment etc. will add more heat load. It gets a little complicated, beyond the overheated person. To get efficient cooling capacity you will need a split unit. These mobile rolling indoor "all-in-one" room AC are all terrible. Main reason is that the unit is pumping out cold air from room thru the hose! The hose is also warm, leaking heat right back in. The massive AC compressor heat is present in the room! A split unit, all that compressor heat would be separated and outdoors, no forced ventilation, room for more effective heat exchangers. Usually the power OMPH is needed to catch up to an already warm house, to repel the heat stored in roof and walls + cooling the air. Once room is cold the power requirement will drop significantly - here is the next advantage, modern split units (in Europe atleast) most has inverter speed regulated compressors, avoiding the clunky noisy start stop routine! Once it has caught up it just goes much slower raising overall efficiency.
@@Dan-yk6sy But hey, for what it's worth, the micro AC is something I'd like to see too! That should be available for those that only wish to cool a bedroom or something. Ha! Should call some DIY- / HVAC guy that converts a large fridge from junk yard to a split unit! Probably a hell of a work to liberate it from fridge.. maybe focus only on the thermostat and compressor. Then buy the pipe works and heat exchangers. To keep cost down, make it rugged it will probably be an on-off regulation, but a fridge compressor outside doesn't make much of a noise.
Awesome job well done but i build an ac with peltiers but its not very efficient i suggest use compressor system which is more effective and consume less power and generate better cooling

Cool (pun intended) demonstration of your skil in building.something. Hopeless at AC power vs a common hermetic system but aside from the circulation pump there are no moving parts.

Why do they work on the floor ? Never any benches Material all around but nobody ever builds any bench’s they squat like there taking a shit while they work.
That will work if you have a 1000 watt generator in the trunk. Peltiers have their place but massive heat transfer, like is required for aircondition is way out of their league.
Peltier is just for electronical chip cooling for very limited spaces. Peltier doesn't make any heat gain. If you use compressor and refigirant gases you get as high as X 4 cop values. 600 w is very high power for batteries. This is only conceptual system we electronical engineers use peltiers to cool our chips more than 40 years
Some Chinese company needs to start making some 600w or 800w cheap AC units for off grid and redneck projects like this. The smallest cheap window ac is always around 1500w.
Tough fight.. AC Compressor: - Typical efficiency: 20-40% (COP: 3-5) - High-end models: up to 60% efficient (COP: 6-8) Peltier Cell: - Typical efficiency: 2-5% (COP: 1-3) - High-end models: up to 10% efficient (COP: 4-5) Key differences: - AC compressors are 4-8 times more efficient than Peltier cells - AC compressors can achieve higher cooling capacities COP (Coefficient of Performance) measures the ratio of heat transferred to electrical energy consumed. Higher COP values indicate better efficiency

Basically running it at 1/3 power or 1/6 power ?
If I understood it correctly 🤔
So sacrifice power to efficiency
If I remember correctly at full power those modules are like 5% efficient at full power
But what is the efficiency at 1/3 or 1/6 power?
Tengo la misma duda... Como llega a los 24V?
Peltiers are more efficient at around 50% power so you can get the same cooling using more of them at lower voltage.
I love it! Sorry if i missed it,what was load current?looks like you used 30-40 amp relays? Is that correct.awesome job!😃
Why use liquid to transfer heat?
Replace the headliner with the Peltier blocks, so it cools the interior from the top down & there is air flow over the other side (the roof).
What is the total amperage?

Cool that you realised this built, I was thinking of a thermoelectric AC but came to the conclusion that it will not be strong enough. First thermoelectric (peltier) generates far more heat than it takes out of the cooling medium. So its more of a outdoor heater... and with water there is no phase change but only the temperature difference of the water. The phase change carries much more energy though. gas->liquid->gas
The problem with water is that this happens at 100C so not really fits for cooling. You can use the solid-> liquid phasechange by manually putting a bucket of icecubes into the car and blow a fan on it.
i already tried those ice bucket and blower.. i did use a radiator to harness the low temperature and it's cold for 5mins and all ice is melted..
yes peltier is inefficient for cooling, but for those who are curious for what if.. then there it is 😁
I'm curious to back then.. 😅
how can I contact you?
Greetings from Australia.
you way is more efficient but ice in a bucket in Asia wont last more than 3 hours.
What is the manufacturer name of that car? I am really interested in it sir.
Is there something very small (and quiet) we can do to keep amplifier cool and not over heat?
-Very large heatsinks... passive convection- sorry, forgot the small part. Other solution would be undervolted fans held in place by soft suspension as not to impart vibrations into HIFi box.
@@Paxmax 🙏🙏🙏🙏 would it be possible for you to make a video about it?
560w/12v=46.66A? Can the alternator handle it?
I DO like the design, very creative. Good Job👍🏻
For the US, he went from 80F to 68F, while a normal car AC in 80f ambient should result in 40F output at the vents, minimum.
yes peltier cooling is far beyond compare to compress type cooling...
Need to get rid of the heat generated from the peltiers and separate as much as possible from the cool side.
Still horribly inefficient, but may be a life saver with enough solar panels to drive it and a small insulated box to escape to!
Transferring the compressor and tubes from a refrigerator would be cheaper and more efficient too.
where did you get those small radiator from
computer
so ,this being your second version ,did it work better than the first ,the first seemed to have destroyed your engine bay by the looks of it,this one didnt work that well either did it ,for the effort, peltiers just dont ever work the way you want them to ,cheers guys
I agree with you 👍
Salamat sa pagbahagi sir.ok rin yan dahil mahal ang gasulina dadag cunsomo sa gas pag compressor belt driven ang gagamitin
Def cooled down inside 🚗 👍🏼
Wouldn't it be cheeper to use a inverter and a home window ac unit and a lot easier and you would get a lote more cooling.
at 600w youre better off installing the guts of small house air conditioner or a heatpump of some sort. they would use less power by being more efficient at both power usage and the amount of heat they could pull out of the cabin. you could easily cut power usage down to 200-300 watts when running full power. even a cheap portable aircon running off an inverter would only use about 400w peak and they are horribly inefficient. its a "cool" idea though, the install was very neatly done
Great execution of a terrible idea
Prety sure that was 600 watts at 24 volts (maybe12?), what you are describing sounds like a portable house AC, which runs at 120vac.
I've never seen an ac that pulls less than 1500w (maybe 1300), plus the huge startup draw. Maybe some really expensive camper AC units, but I think most of those are 1200watts.
@@sumiixIve looked, good luck finding a sub 1500w cheap window ac unit, I don't think they exist.
@@Dan-yk6sy i have a cheapo chinese portable unit, 2.5kw cooling, it uses a lot as a surge at startup but once it is running it settles down to under 500w once everything is up and running
👍👍👍master peltier
How about use bigger radiator
Faster transfer heat
Higher efficiency
Why do you need the big radiator with fan?
That is used to disperse the heat generated which allows for a hot side and a cold side. The more heat dispersed on the rad the colder grill on the cold side would get.
The outlet temperature of an AC cooler is about 4 °C. There is still a huge difference.
Ese es uno de los coches chinos que envian para armar como muebles de IKEA?
Why you make the peltier in series? Is it to reduce the amps?
yes.. and lower the voltage per plate more efficient..
What is the name of the square tube?
pneumatic distributor
Great job. Keep up the great work.
Use old refrigirator pump make copper coils and fan blow into them and power inverter 12v to 220v. At 400w use you will get more than kilowatt cooling power. Peltier have small efficiency and from power used you get an fraction of cooling power
great video. pwede po matanong san niyo po binili yung pcb for the thermocouple? or yung parts po na nagaaccept ng AA voltage
Very good! A RV / motorhome 12 volt electric AC pulls at least 1300 watts, electric motor running a compressor pump.
ye but 1300W in a ac compressor has atleast 3000W (probably more) of thermal moving power, peltier modules literally will only move about as much as they pull
exactly what the dude above says. 1300w on a compressor may move 4000w or more. my AC is 3500w (12000 BTU), 1000w consumption
To keep cost down, make it rugged it will probably be an on-off regulation, but a fridge compressor outside doesn't make much of a noise.
with the road that close to you 24 hrs a day no wonder it drives you mad enough to acheive this amazing engineering. Did you build the entire car?
Awesome job well done but i build an ac with peltiers but its not very efficient i suggest use compressor system which is more effective and consume less power and generate better cooling
cool build, however efficency of a peltier-system is around 5% so you need humongous power to get any useful coolingpowerout of it..
Give some hot paste to make conduction more efficient
be nice if there was a build of materials that was used in this video, not everyone has these parts laying around
Cheaper to buy used car with air-conditioning, but nice project.
Galing ng Idea pwedi na mag Ac kahit naka off ang makina.
Downside of using peltier is the amps or power that it draws and not crucial on hot weather lol
it actually is cheaper to run a traditional AC than any amount of Peltier cooling alternative.
ps the hotter it is outside the more cooling youll get as it trys to normalize the inside and outside ,also once the car is moving that will help, also im unsure if those water blocks have the correct type of fins inside for heat transfer like cpu water blocks made of copper
Wrong! more heat outside means less cooling.
ok,yes i worded that wrong i ment exhaust that vents the hot side out,the hotter it can exhaust the colder it will get,,i wasnt paying attention was wondering what happened to his car
wonder if stacking them might help in that project ,stacking seriously increased peltier fridge conversion we did few years back
@@angusmcgil This system is terribly inefficient for using as an air cooler. This guy has like 24 of those peltier modules which draw a lot of power, while providing minimal cooling. While it works for the sake of a UA-cam video, it's impractical.
yeah we know that, but hes having a go ,hes being creative in his reality and efficentcy isnt allways that important@@Engineerbroofficial
Hello, your project is very nice. However, I think that systems made with Peltier are very low in cost and efficiency. Instead, it would be more efficient to choose refrigerator-type cooling with a 12v aquarium compressor and copper pipe.
those videos are not real.. they don't give even 1C cooler difference..
如果功耗达到600W的话,这个制冷效果有点差。用热泵更加好

You may want to use a gas compressor that only works when the car is moving? it surely will be more energy efficient. I loved that little electric car. LOL.

Ang galing nyo naman sir. Sana magawan nyo ako ng ganyan din para malagay ko sa sasakyan kong e-car. Salamat.
Nice. Thanks for sharing. Are you happy with it?
Cool (pun intended) demonstration of your skil in building.something. Hopeless at AC power vs a common hermetic system but aside from the circulation pump there are no moving parts.
Its a good idea but peltier consume to much power more than compressor
Lots of lightning, really cool
Temperature?
I would have bought two more radiators and put peltier directly on it, because more water flows through a radiator than through an aluminum block...In my opinion
you can you small 12 v compressor 200 or 300 watt
Flip flop stamp of quality!!!
Why do they work on the floor ? Never any benches Material all around but nobody ever builds any bench’s they squat like there taking a shit while they work.
Sometimes you have 10 projects going at one time and space is a commodity, or the desk can't hold 3 car batteries to run 36v
vs inverter and refigerator or home freezer.. just open the door add fan .. for simpler
how much in total? cause its about $65 a set and im not going to watch but would like to hear back from you when i watch it later.
if you are running a combustion engine in the back; I think its best to try and connect a regular car compressor..
Id like to use this in my bedroom! much quieter
..until the energy bill drops like a sledgehammer on your wallet 😉
@@Paxmax at 600 watts still less then a window AC unit
Isn't chipper buying a new factory one?
buying the whole thing is getting you stock on that design and learning in process is the best thing.. 👍
That will work if you have a 1000 watt generator in the trunk. Peltiers have their place but massive heat transfer, like is required for aircondition is way out of their league.
Hallo, das ist ein sehr sehr schönes Projekt.👍👍👍👍.
Bleib gesund.
Viele Grüße aus Sachsen Anhalt in Deutschland 🇩🇪
Just hook an ac compressor to the engine and do it right then you will blow about 5⁰c like it should be....
Problem with peltier's as fun as they are to f--- with, they use a massive amount of energy compared to other options.
Nicely build, nice cool car... to bad you had to remove the engine first 😂
That is better than some idea of french engineer (Renault for example :p )
This is beautiful, 🎉
Tough fight..
AC Compressor:
- Typical efficiency: 20-40% (COP: 3-5)
- High-end models: up to 60% efficient (COP: 6-8)
Peltier Cell:
- Typical efficiency: 2-5% (COP: 1-3)
- High-end models: up to 10% efficient (COP: 4-5)
Key differences:
- AC compressors are 4-8 times more efficient than Peltier cells
- AC compressors can achieve higher cooling capacities
COP (Coefficient of Performance) measures the ratio of heat transferred to electrical energy consumed. Higher COP values indicate better efficiency
Compressor AC 10times more efficiency than peltier
yes that's true..
no freon .. 🤤 but can subtitute it with propane or LPG
Solar panels are not efficient but direct connected to this peltier A/C perhaps Fridge too could save battery power.
this is easier to retro fit into a mini-truck that never had ac.
This peltier unit would be useful to generate electricity from waste heat in an AC unit or the engine radiator.
