    Guys come on, the heat from the space + the heat from the internal resistance of the peltier = more heat than you started with. It has to go somewhere outside the space. As you can see now the water will just get hotter until it freakin boils. I'll explain the math. A common 12706 TEC is about 70% efficient under normal conditions and may draw 6A at 12VDC so that's 72W of power with 21.6W as excess waste heat (x 3) plus a human occupant will generate another 100W or so, and heat from the power supply, pump, and fans. You're now trying to pump about 170W of heat through modules that can move 150W of heat into the water and it has nowhere to go then anyway. The issue here is clear then, you're generating heat, not cooling. Even if you could dump the heat outside and have constant fresh water you still have a net loss and we haven't even accounted for trapped infrared from the sun, heating through reradiation from the vehicle body, or anything else. It simply cannot work this way. The front side of the Peltier assembly will get cold, sure, but the space will not. It takes ~184Wh of power to boil 2L of water from room temp (not a hot car even) so you would be failing to cool the space and boiling your reservoir in just over an hour. If you're a math denier, prove it yourself, but these aren't used commercially in this configuration because physics. If you upgrade to 12715 or something you still have poor efficiency and even more waste heat from power supply and resistance, you just get a colder cold side which obviously doesn't matter. Still a cool build though.

    Cool video and it looked like a lot of fun to build!
    But as you probably know, this works only for a short time, mainly if the cold air is directly blowing at your body, but realistically, it won't truly cool the ambient temperature of your room/car (at least not for long) like an AC unit does.
    You have to find a way to get rid of the waste-heat because the reservoir is only going to heat up and the hot air from the fans will also spread into your room/car, so you'll just be introducing more heat into your environment than there was originally.
    For now, you have demonstrated how to concentrate a large portion of the heat into a small container of water (by producing more heat ironically).
    The the next step is to get rid of that heat altogether so it does not come back.
    Think about the problem and then find a way to solve it. Don't be discouraged. We humans have solved problem after problem, for thousands of years by thinking like you are thinking :) That is why we are where we are now, instead of in caves.
    Good luck! I have faith in you!

    i was thinking same .but dont know if that would work or not.i was thiking to sticking 7-8 peltier modules to large heat sink and colder side to another heat sink.everything in closed box both side have large fans ,on hot side have large hole and pipe connected to it to throw hot air out side of the room and other fan blowing cold air from cold in the room and in winter switch sides to warm the room.i guess its gonna consume lot of power as well.

    • @BillMingLabs
      @BillMingLabs  3 місяці тому +1

      Great idea. However, the power consumption will be relatively high. At the same time, the cold air generated by Peltier is relatively limited. I personally recommend using a small air compressor. But your idea is worth a try. I wish you success.

  • @teksheng90

    Thanks for sharing.
    I have some questions hoping you could advice,
    1. how do you design/decide on how big is the reservoir to cater to 3 peltier?
    2. The reservoir in your video, how long can it last before you need to change the water?
    3. Normally at what temperature you change the water?
    Just an idea maybe some improvement could be done is to have a probe installed in the reservoir to monitor on the temp?
    This is a very good idea though on improving AC in campervan without needing to open an vent hole.
    Great work!😀

    • @BillMingLabs
      @BillMingLabs  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comments and suggestions.😀
      The temperature difference between the hot and cold ends of the Peltier can reach 60-70 degrees Celsius. Cooling the hot end can lower the temperature of the cold end. The minimum temperature at the cold end can reach -50 degrees Celsius or even lower. So the lower the water temperature and the larger the capacity of the water tank, the more conducive it is to heat dissipation at the hot end, thereby reducing the temperature at the cold end.
      My water tank is 1.1L. Due to the small size of the water tank, the water temperature rises rapidly and can reach over 70 degrees Celsius in one hour. At this point, I need to change the water. I have installed a temperature probe (video 6'24"~06'29") on the metal water tank connected to the hot end of the Peltier to detect the water temperature. But your suggestion of setting a temperature probe in the water tank is better.
      My car's third row seats don't have air conditioning, so I made this portable air conditioner. It partially compensates for the shortcomings of car air conditioning. But I think there is still a lot of room for improvement, including the following aspects:
      Replace the water tank with a larger capacity.
      Heat insulate the water tank in a foam box and add ice cubes inside.
      Thank you again for your feedback and sincere suggestions.😀

    • @BillMingLabs
      @BillMingLabs  5 місяців тому +1

      The thermometer on the left detects the temperature of the water, and as long as the Peltier is working, the temperature will rise. The thermometer on the right detects the temperature of the air outlet. The middle thermometer detects the ambient temperature and can set the starting temperature (such as 26 degrees) and stopping temperature (such as 25 degrees). For example, if the ambient temperature is higher than 26 degrees, it will start, and if it is lower than 25 degrees, it will stop, thus achieving constant temperature.

      @@BillMingLabs I know that but I am talking about the heat generated to cooling done, in a closed area it will not help not in car, also the voltage required to genrate will discharge battery, don't you think having a pipe at back to get that heat generated by fan exaust by a pipe outside, also the water cooled can be used as drip onto some grass like a desert cooler will make it more efficient

      Great idea! In winter, it can be transformed into a car refrigerator. Hot water pipes can be used for seat heating.

    It draws 200 watts of dc power , output is 68.24 Btu/h nice but it's a waste of power lol
