This stall is awesome. I prefer the mee goreng though.... One of those hawkers with pride. But honestly, it is HEAVY... Don't get me wrong... I am a big guy with a big appetite, but after 1 plate, I do get a little queasy... Did you finish both? I don't think I can...😅
the malay way of cooking beehoon is so brilliant. i usually don't like beehoon if it's cooked in the chinese way. the 2 dishes you got looked so good though! the mee goreng looks a little sweet but if you said it's a good balance of sweetness... i think i shall try it.
Hey Gregory! I have a spare clip-on mic by Sony, and I would be willing to give it to you so that you can have better audio. Let me know if you want it :)
actually ive tried lav mics but shotgun mics seem to be the best solution in a crowded hawker centre. lav mics, hard to hear the hawkers lah :(. it's still noisy as hell with a shotgun mic but at least my voice can be heard. it's especially bad at geylang serai market bec its crowded and noisy even in the early hours!
You may try 'Rex' at Tekka Market. The makcik seafood mee goreng is nice. Opens on weekdays only. Probably to be safe u come on tues-fri only during lunch time. Ps: ask for seafood mee goreng basah pedas. Its really nice !!
Hey , I have some video suggestions/request, would love to see some recipe videos in association with the various stall owners, that should be a fun and educational watch.
I did a lot of research about mee bandung. Some findings I got are: 1) bandung is a touristy city where many malaysian n singaporean love to go. 2) in bandung itself, there is no such dish named after it. 3) There are numbers of mee hawkers selling mee in gravy in bandung, the most similar to mee bandung are mee made by achehnese and javanese who sell around Bandung. 4) I believe mee bandung we known in singapore is named after Bandung. They simply named it after the city name. Same goes to Kabsah and Mandy, where it became Nasi Arab by our local people. Some of our local desserts are simply named Kueh Melayu in Hong Kong. 5) Mee Bandung is not originated from Muar. You may find it elsewhere within Johore and Singapore. But bear in mind, Muar is the next tourist spot after JB in Johore. So that the "unknown mee" which is sold in Bandung by Achehnese and Javanese, which then replicated by our local people to resemble the mee they enjoy during their visit to Bandung, which then adopted by us around 80s and named it Mee Bandung. It doesn't stop there, the Mee Bandung travel to Muar, and again it get rebranded as Mee Bandung Muar. Maybe one day Mee Bandung Muar will travel to Tokyo, will likely rename as Mee Bandung Muar Tokyo. Sorry just a humble opinion. Correct me if I am wrong. :)
Mee Bandung is not from Muar and to say it was replicated in the 80s is also false. If your research is from Wikipedia then it is unreliable because as a user-generated source, it can be edited by anyone at any time. I first ate Mee Bandung during my secondary school days in Singapore in 1968. And in 1968, Muar is a village and not a tourist spot. Also in 1968, Bandung is still unknown outside Indonesia and the only thing its known for in Singapore is the song Ole Ole Bandung in 1965. Another food in Singapore during the 60s is Rojak Bandung. Now, please dont tell me it is also from Muar.😅
greg your videos are excellent. I love the way you describe the dishes in depth. Great work.
