    My top 7 pre-show :
    1.) Sara Siipola - Paskana
2.) Cyan Kicks - Dancing with Demons
    3.) Jesse Markin - Glow
4.) Sini Sabotage - Kuori Mua
    5.) Sexmane - Mania
6.) Mikael Gabriel Ft. Nublu - Vox Populi
    7.) Windows95man - No Rules
My top 7 after the show :
    1) Sara Siipola - Paskana
    2.) Jesse Markin - Glow
3.) Sini Sabotage - Kuori Mua
    4.) Sexmane - Mania
5.) Cyan Kicks - Dancing with Demons
6.) Mikael Gabriel Ft. Nublu - Vox Populi
    7.) Windows95man - No Rules
Some comments (some of which will be very similar with what I said elsewhere because most hasn't changed) :
So, my favourite was Paskana because it's pretty much the sort of music I love, a ballad being real, with strong and genuine lyrics. Even though I can't understand Finnish at all, I honestly could feel her emotions just through the video and vocals in studio and live, I feel like her vocals being not as perfect as in the studio version enhanced this, it showed even more vulnerability. Obviously, reading the lyrics after my first listening also made it even more impactful but I think it's important that it was impactful even if you don't know the actual meaning of the song. It's a really memorable pop / kind of a bit electro ballad as well, the chorus just stays in your head and it is an interesting formula for a ballad, it makes it less predictable in my opinion. It has got power without overreaching for it or trying too hard. Extremely disappointed this wasn't chosen.
Cyan Kicks somehow managed to drop for me quite substantially despite that I thought the performance would be great but there was definitely something off with the camera cuts and the performance overall, I didn't feel it on the stage which is disappointing. They did better with Hurricane for sure. As someone who is not generally a fan of most rock/metal songs, I thought it was really good in studio though.
I will mention Glow for being a song I actually really enjoyed despite not being a fan of rapping because it is SO catchy, the chorus especially is really memorable and there are many really wonderful instrumental touches throughout the song.
Kuori Mua is an interesting one because I find it really interesting, qualitative and brave with some experimental sounds but I'm afraid it's not for me. I just found it better than the songs placed below it though.
Mania is also an interesting one in the sense that I think it is a good quality song as well but I think, ultimately, it is overshadowed by the other rap song of the selection being Glow. Obviously, they do go for a different sound and different emotions but I do feel like it doesn't hit hard enough. It isn't as catchy or Memorable as Glow, and doesn't have as much of an interesting instrumental either. It's a shame because I actually like this song. For instance, while I think Kuori Mua hits for what it's aiming for, even if it's not for me, I feel like Mania just barely misses the mark. There's something missing and it's not really connecting for me because of this.
Vox Populi really isn't for me and I'm pretty much still confused by this song. Like honestly all the songs in the selection, it is quality, but I'm not here for the lyrical content and I find the chorus to be a wall of noise more than anything there ^^'
Finally, No Rules. I do think it's decent because the production, for what the song is (not much), is good, but its real strength lies in how enjoyable and carefree it is. It's the kind of entry which doesn't care about being taken seriously and it's just there to bring the party on and have fun, just be positive about pretty much everything. Unfortunately and although I know it's not what this entry goes for, if you do analyze it ''seriously'', well, there's not much actually interesting about it. I think it was a good addition to the selection but this shouldn't ever have been a choice, unless Finland does want to just send something fun that references Eurovision 90's beats and isn't to be taken more seriously than just having fun with it. It does serve its purpose in that way. Buuuut, this type of entry is not for me and let's be honest, since all the other songs were well-made, there is nothing really going for this apart from its crazy, over-the-top and also quite gimmicky performance.
Obviously, you're probably starting to know me and this winner is not for me. Although I don't think Finland should be ashamed to have sent this, I am extremely confused and disappointed by this choice. I already wasn't and am still not a fan of Käärijä's song personally and felt like it was heavily overrated (It was like just above the middle of my 2023 ranking and in an honest opinion I think it didn't deserve more than the top 10) because of its crazy, over-the-top performance which was already trying too hard despite not finding the song actually that good ; it was a good quality song but it didn't go further than that for me, I really didn't get the hype of it. Käärijä is a good performer though.
Finland's choice, to me, feels like they tried to go with the same type of impact this year but No Rules definitely doesn't try to get the 90's sound up to date in this song and it's just not an actual good song in the grand scheme of things compared to Cha Cha Cha who at least had this going for it in my point of view. It also tries extremely hard to be crazy and over-the-top in its performance too, certainly more than Cha Cha Cha as well.
I also have to say that, for watching UMK this year, it was a really sad ending to it for me xD

I'm glad that we arrived at the same top three of songs in the end, and I'm pretty much in agreement with your assessment of these songs. I think knowing the differing things we're prioritising in music, the difference in our orders does make sense.
I really appreciated your in-depth thoughts about each of the songs. You make a lot of good points but some do stand out as being those that I particularly agree with.
      - Your description of "Vox Populi" and its "Wall Of Sound" chorus is well on the money. I think it is one of those songs where upon an initial listen or presentation, this doesn't bother a listener as much as it would if they were listening to it repeatedly. Maybe, even by the end of a first listen, it gets a little too much...but I feel they cover that up quite well with their staging. It's not one of the songs in this selection I choose to come back to.
      - Also agree that "Mania" is really not far away. I think the limitations and slight shortcomings of the first two thirds of the song would be forgiven if the last minute just hit a bit harder. I think it was a missed opportunity. As it stands, I find "Mania" a bit of a middle ground compromise between the two polar sounds of "Glow" and "Dancing With Demons"...and sadly, I don't know if there was any demand for that.
      - I think you're right about "No Rules" and what it's going for. It isn't meant to be taken seriously. My belief is that it is going to be intolerable for people who actually lived in the 90's and it is intended to give a jokey call back to that era that appeals to a younger audience. There's going to be a vote for it. It'll do better than people are willing to admit.
Not my winner, but fine with their thinking behind it and glad that the public got to make the decision. I enjoyed the selection and have three songs I'll happily revisit. So, in the end, it's all a win for me.

@@kaleproject3495 I do feel like we have similar thoughts overall but just a different taste and that's what makes it great to discuss with you haha, even when we disagree to be honest ^^
I always try to give honest and in-depth thoughts if I'm going to comment on each song yep, although sometimes I do have less things to say or at least that comes to mind at first, particularly when a song confuses me like Vox Populi xD I did know when I commented that we would share quite a few points about the songs here. I also do think I wouldn't have the courage to make an in-depth comment for 40 songs like you did for Lithuania in your video XD
      - I don't know for other people of course but for me it was too much since the first listen ^^' It left me there, confused, and I still am to this day whenever I listen to the song xD It was performed fine but I just feel like it doesn't come together nicely in the end. You have the wall of sound chorus, choral touches attached then the ''gospel''/choir moment near the end of the song and fast flowing rap throughout all in one song, it feels like they're throwing everything in your face in that sense. I guess my take would be that it isn't really pleasant for me to listen to because of this personally, I guess they throw too much in my face at the same time, it feels over-the-top in that way and it lacks a bit of coherence for me but I can't deny it's quality still, it's put together quite well ^^'
      - Definitely agree completely with you there. I also think I get what you mean with the middle ground compromise thing, it does feel like, as you wrote in the video, like the song doesn't go far enough, it doesn't fully commit to what it's trying to do, somehow, and thus it feels like it doesn't really have got its own direction. The song might have benefitted from a little bit grittier instrumental there and a bit more hard hitting as well.
      - I mean, I'm actually scared how much votes this could take but I hope it won't do better than Let 3 last year and end up in a similar spot, in the sense that it's a completely different song but both were jokey entries and both heavily relied on their performance to get votes imo and I do feel like that's what will attract votes since there are people who vote for such performances. I'm not from the 90's but I'm just not a fan of jokey entries, especially since it's really not even trying to do something interesting with its 90's sound here ^^' It fully commits to being jokey and dated xD I know it'll get votes but I have to admit it hurts xD
I do know we have a slightly different stance on that x) I do think it's great that the public got to make the decision but I just feel like jury power is necessary because televoters tend to throw away more slow, subdued and subtle songs and this although of course both public and jury can mess up. I think it's more the jury system that is flawed in that the jury is too small to feel like it's ''fair'' and to feel like it'll represent and acknowledge enough different tastes and quality in each ''types'' of music, if you get what I mean xD There should be more juries in the jury of each country and stuff. Anyway, I feel like a 50/50 system does feel fine because giving more power to either televoters or juries, despite I hear the point that televoters are obviously much more people than the very small number of people we have in the juries, will just result in frustration of feeling like one side does overpower the other and I also do feel like it will make the vote go in the favour of some types of entries, in spite of the others

I think that Finland's choice yesterday was terrible and that there were far better options for the contest. I do think that it is also funny though that all the same people who cried about the televote not having enough say in the actual contest have now taken the exact opposite of you because the televote having more say resulted in a song they didn't like winning.

You can't change your view on voting systems the minute it produces a winner that *you* don't like. You have to be consistent.

    07. Glow (09/10)
    06. Vox populi (10/10)
    05. Mania (10/10)
    04. No Rules! (10/10)
    03. Dancing With Demons (10/10)
    02. Kuori mua (10/10)
    01. Paskana (10/10)
By far the best selection this year ! I love every song and imo only Glow is at lower level as everyone else ! Paskana is my ultimate favourite this year so I'm dissapointed she didn't win but we all know that Finns love joke entries so with the new system I think it will go that way every year but I was hoping that the message of Paskana would have give to her a lot more points ! I'm not mad at No Rules! winning because they had the best staging & performance and the song is fun and catchy and since the beginning I knew it was between them and Sara ! It's just sad to see that Sara finished 1st & 2nd and did not win and the one who finished last and first won... Paskana would have ended up in the top 5 at Eurovision for sure but I hate the one hating so bad on No Rules! just because it won, yeah it can be not your taste but at least they did something different (even though Finns want to do like last year, just like they did with The Rasmus by sending the same kind of song but weaker)

    • @kaleproject3495
      @kaleproject3495  8 місяців тому

Those are great ratings and I'm glad you enjoyed the selection as much as you did! I also think it was a strong selection and, even though, I only really liked my top three, I liked them strongly.
I never thought Paskana was genuinely going to be Finland's choice this year. It's just not the sort of song that their televote is going to pick as a winner. I think, had it been chosen, it wouldn't have gotten a televote enough to get them into the top five at ESC, top ten was more realistic.

Hi! So, Finland again showed us how fans' opinion on voting systems fastly varies from "juries have too much power, televoting has to be more impactful" to "tasteless televoters, why don't juries have more power?". That's why 50/50 system is the best choice, maybe with the superfinal with 100% televoting, like in Eesti Laul. Benidorm and UMK both showed us that no side should have a 75% impact.
Anyway, moving on to the songs. I quite like the studio version of "No Rules!", cause this retro music is something I often like, but this love performance wasn't it for me. I use this word very rarely, but it really seemed cringe for me, especially his look without his shorts for the most of the performance.
It will probably be hypocritical by me to say how unsatisfied I am with Windows95Man winning, while I would have been happy if Portion Boys did the same last year. I totally get the similarities between them, but...idk, I loved the vibe of Portion Boys on stage and the vocals were amazing, but you already know what I think about the staging of "No Rules!" and the vocal seemed out of tune for me.
My winners were and still are Cyan Kicks. At first I was kinda disappointed with their song, but now I really like it and this performance, though with some missed camera shots, still looked professional and made the song come alive. Out of all NF artists from the last years, along with Ollie, they deserve the most to finally go to ESC.
If you want to hear something harder from them, I advise you to try "Invincible" or the cover of "Rockabye".
Happy that you like "Glow". The song is quite cool, although a bit disjointed for me and I liked the last part, when he interacted with the audience. The colour choice also was right and created a good vibe. He's also my mum's winner, btw.
"Vox populi" also had a very fun both song and performance, if Finland wanted something fun, they should have went for this one. It's also a very creative entry.
Tbh, I've never loved "Paskana" as much as many fans, but I still like it and this performance was very sincere. Would have been a deserving, even if not my personal winner.
Btw, looking forward to your top of Eurovizija.lt! Surprisingly, it's one of my favourite NFs of the year!

    • @kaleproject3495
      @kaleproject3495  8 місяців тому +2

I don't really want to get into the voting too much. I love the Finland system and even if this isn't the result I would've wanted, it's the right result. It would have been wrong for a song to win a televote by almost 50% more votes than the second place song and lose because of juries. The system worked as it should for me, and Finland gets to live by their decision and the song that THEY chose. If they come top 5 in May, everyone complaining now is going to look silly!
The big difference between something like Portion Boys and Windows95man is probably the vocals. Portion Boys were incredible. "No Rules" is not performed particularly well.
Thanks so much! I have my Lithuanian ranking worked out and am starting on my video editing today. It might take a few days as it's still the CNY holiday here and I have family obligations...but when I have spare time, I will be working on it!

When it comes to the televote, it's understandable. The female solo vote got behind Sara and the quirky vote got behind Windows95man. Sini was last in the bookmakers' odds for a reason, and that reason was that it was difficult to see where her votes would come from.
Sometimes, results don't reflect how good the songs are.
