Nobody going to talk about how the symbol on the obols changed to an hourglass signifying that chronos is the ruler of the underworld now? Since things stayed the same in that aspect in Hades 1 throughout the entire story, I think we can expect chronos to remain in control or at least not die.
That's a really interesting point!
Still haven’t beaten the chronus boss fight yet.
My working theory remains we as Melonie must get Chronis into a pocket dimension or time loop and re go down to kill him forever.
Like how Sisyphus kept escaping death until he was forced to keep pushing that boulder up a hill that always rolled down before the top, thereby ensuring he could never escape death again.
Could be!
TL;DW Zagreus is Kratos, Melinoe is Sailor Moon. Love your video BTW!
Absolutely incredible analysis 🤣 Glad you enjoyed it!
So this is an interesting story beat, but Chronos Implies in a flashback to Hades that Zagreus was the one who rebuilt Chronos by accident because he performed the blood sacrifice rituals on his weapons with the Titans Blood essentially piecing Chronos blood back together without realizing it.
That's really interesting, I haven't gotten to that part yet!
I saw some of her interactions with other characters and I can feel that she lacks a sense of pride and confidence.
Zagreus will always taunt about how he will definitely beat his opponent, regardless of the outcome, while Melinoe lacks that and is extremely humble to everyone she interacts with.
Skelly/General Schelemeus is also put in a different position within this game, which might reflect how the character sees themselves and the others. Skelly in first game feels like a lowly crazy skeleton servant, while General Schelemeus is straight up a general. They both serve the same purpose (our punching bag) but how we, the player, perceive him is completely different in these two games.
I love what you're saying and great point on Skelly. Melinoe is surrounded by generals, honestly. They're all trying to direct her to do something but...is that what she wants? She seems to have no sense of individuality, being the exact opposite of her older brother.
I didn’t expect you to use her accessories like her moon necklace for your argument, that was pretty interesting and cool
Thanks, I think it was very clever of their team! There's a lot of talent built up at Supergiant and the full release is sure to be filled with fantastic details like that.
I would expand that line of thinking even towards the crafting system, where in hades 1 we have the cronstuctors of the underworld and the resources whe gather were gems, diamonds, stones, glass, jewels, gold things that were heavy, sharp, strong made to be resistent and durable just like zagreus wanted his family to become, and in hades 2 melinoe colects seeds, plants, earth and dirt, and even the stones that we collect are moonstones who are not sharp or heavy but actually have a soft and light appearence. I think that also ties to the fact that this is a game who is trying to get more in touch with feminine energy, witchcraft, sisterhood and motherhood with hecate, selene, melinoe and artemis all being this kinda of coven each representing one aspect of the moon and this shows how i think the game will makes us start with a mental seting of killing and slaying but actually we will end up making terms with it, making bonds with the enemy because you know what they say in the trailer "Time can not be stopped" but it can become your ally...
OoooooOOooOOoooohhhh! I love this! Lots of fantastic and interesting things I hadn't even considered. Thank you so much for sharing and I think you're dead on the money.
There's a poem by Pindar that features Cronus ruling over the Isles of The Blessed
Really interesting theory. I wonder what the post-game gameplay loop will/would be considering in Hades 1 you can still play a save file after beating the story.
For real though. With time being such a large thematic element they could really take it any number of directions.
Mel looks like she'll be breaking curses. She employs magic to allow her (and theoretically, her father and brother) access to the surface, and she becomes familiar with Arachne and Echo, two of the most famous cursed figures in the original mythology.
Given that Chronos can shunt her around in time and cannot (and possibly should not) be permanently beaten, I wonder if her victory won't be in winning a fight, but undoing a curse, a spell, or a snarl of time.
It very well could be! Curious to keep playing more and seeing where it goes!
Cool mental gymnastics!
Hah! It could be! But even if it's NOT the intention of Supergiant, I think it's a powerful thought experiment to learn how we COULD build things like this intentionally in our own games 😁
Zoomer brain detected 🤓
What if in at the end of the game Melinoë won't be able to kill Chronos because that would come with major consequence? In the trailer Hades said that Chronos isn't just some mere Titan and that he is time itself. So what if instead of killing him Melinoë has strip him of his powers to either trap him again or perhaps make him reconcile with Hades, Poseidon and Zeus? There is actually a part in mythology that said Zeus freed his Father and reconciled with him leading to Chronos becoming the king of Elysium.
I think it's going to be more of the latter. It would thematically echo zagreus's story of bringing together family instead of tearing it apart but from the opposite direction.
Oh 2 is out already. I need to finish playing the 1st
You should, 2 is soooooo good! 1 was amazing as well. I nearly got the full ending on that one before carpal tunnel forced me to stop and then I just...lost momentum haha.
Really great video, I think there is also something to be said about how the new character art for the Gods says something about the story too!!
Thanks, and I absolutely agree! It's abundantly clear that they are pouring in so much passion and attention for detail to shift the tone from Zagreus' story to Melinoe's
What about potential weapon aspects? Zagreus ends up following in the flawed footsteps of the heroes the aspects are named after.
That's an interesting point! I've heard people talking about weapon aspects a lot on Reddit but I admit I haven't made it to that part of 2 yet. Though Nemesis sure is interesting with the stygian blade.
What is bro yappin about. Love this video
Haha, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
We've found the newest MatPat!!
None can replace him, but I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Found your channel on reddit. Good video
Thanks so much! I appreciate you sounding off 👏
Bro has already finished the game before it came out
Can't wait for the full release to prove me dead wrong in really interesting ways 😂
what's the music in the end?
“Hades - Gates of Hell” and “Hades - On the Coast”
Great analysis! Much to learn here.
Thank you! I hope it's helpful!
wait melinoe isnt zagreus's sister ?!
Oh no, she definitely is
@@foxhollowgames oh good.
