The most informative channels on UA-cam tend to have fewer than a million subs (with people like Jeff Nippard being rare exceptions). You are the best one-stop shop for a wide range of fitness related information, and Mike Isratael routinely puts out PhD level lectures out for free. Yet most of your videos get tens of thousand of views at max. Not sure if i'd want you guys to get more popular and increase the of risk being forced to create trash content, or just stay this way and consistently deliver absolute gold with every video you put out.
If I'm gonna be honest, even RP has slightly gone to shit since they have gotten bigger. The average video length has reduced exponentially and there haven't been any lectures in like a year. Granted, the majority of lectures to be made have already been made, but the entire channel is geared more towards beginners and even non-lifters.
Thank you Geoffrey for holding onto your integrity & thank you for uploading educational videos I really find it helpful & appreciate your genuine honesty & transparency in the videos! God bless you & keep you. 🤠

Goodness brother, this video is so accurate! I relate to all of this. I've even had difficulty balancing my content between appealing to more viewers and trying to be helpful. The helpful videos and good advice videos tend to bomb.
Yea it's tough, unfortunately the formula for success on UA-cam is mostly based on click through rate which leads to a lot of tough decisions as a content creator. Appreciate ya, been following for like 6-7 years now!
Biolayne and Sean Nalewanyj are top flight. I looked at your list and saw several more I follow. I love that the Critical Drinker is in there, love that channel. Kept putting out the vids, my dude.
I think with a lot of UA-camrs whose channel starts to blow up it becomes a question of “how many pieces of your soul are you willing to trade for further success?” As their channel grows in scale they become less and less like the person they were starting out. Long may you continue to stay on the right side of that line Geoffrey! 👍
Geoffrey - This video might sting for some people, but I think it's really important that you're saying these hard-to-swallow truths. Whether it's with misleading titles/information, losing integrity in exchange for monetization opportunities, or pretending to be someone's "internet bestie", more and more large pages - not just in fitness but any niche - find themselves resorting to lower and lower tier content. Your content is great right now, and I hope it continues to be great!
You are speaking the truth, my friend! I used to follow people like: Jeremy, Doucette, MPMD, AthleanX but I realized they were not what they seemed. Clickbaits, screams, wanna be helpful content, misinformation - no thank you! I would rather follow smaller youtubers to encourage them. I still follow bigger channels, but the selection has reduced gradually in time because I realized I learn more from smaller channels who are more genuine and truly work on informing people not misleading them... Pleaseeee don't ever change! You are among my most beloved YTers!

Crazy, keep the hard work
That response portion of the video is definitely true lol because I don’t think any UA-camr is obligated to respond but there’s UA-camrs who don’t get too much engagement that definitely have the time to at least like messages just to make it known your comment didn’t go unnoticed regardless of whether it or not it was just a greeting, a connection, or them commenting something they found funny
I might just grab one of your books man! I like you and you don't have million subscribers so making a little from your books just makes me happy! Stay authentic! Cheers!

Actually I think it's because the basics of fitness and hypertrophy aren't very sexy or complicated, so don't sell ads for google- that's the main reason. The nuance is nice, and experienced people watch vids and nod along or go 'nope', but the algorithm's goals and our goals are very much not aligned. GVS nailed it here, if YT becomes your business, you adapt to continue to stay relevant and keep the money coming in.
Great points Geoffrey. I imagine it's hard a balance between staying authentic and taking care of your finances. Revival fitness seemed like he was going down the path of shitty product placements (atleast when he was in LA). You're an inspiration to keep it real.

Geoffrey out here dropping truth bombs on the whole UA-cam game. I personally don't have an issue with someone making money, or not being able to interact with all their numerous fans, they are just people at the end of the day. But so many UA-camrs are just in it for money, it's not even funny anymore. They're all so fake to a point that they stop being real people. Maybe it's because I'm nearly 26 and I've grown up watching UA-cam space change so much from its humble video uploading to ad sponsored mega videos that need to be professionally edited, videoed, photographed etc to have any kind of impact. Or just make a terrible short video with nothing going on.
Sad to know what content ppl respond to, which really says a lot about how shallow ppl have become, not just about the influencers who know how to manipulate this
For what it's worth, the YT fitness channels that I truly think want you to improve are some of the most responsive to the comments. Usually a very good sign of being genuine. Alpha destiny, BOM, NH and especially GVS are some of my favs for this reason. Hell, Dr. Mike responds to all kinds of stuff (memes and actual questions too). John Meadows was this way as well (RIP 😫).
Great information mixed with good humor edits man, your channel will grow. The no bs youtube is the way to go and quality information that you and other youtubers like Sean Nawelyj will prevail! Good shit
I know there isn't much first-order content about training in this discussion (i.e. as opposed to content about content about training). I just wanted to say that this video is a masterpiece.
very valuable video...its really sad that videos like this even need to be made but in this gen-z infested world, videos like this are necessary. Great job. Also Alpham is a clown, anyone actually watching that joke of a content creator should watch this video first.
The problem with clickbait is that the algorithm almost requires it. Because they don’t serve your content to your subscribers. Definitely watch veritasium video on it.
Thanks Geoffrey, I appreciate your reflections. I also admire your intention to be transparent to your audience. In repayment for my earnest gratitude I extend invitation I expect you will accept. I think you’ve made good points. I’m not sure what more the informed individual looking to continue to learn and share their knowledge can do other than keep clicking with trepidation, finding the good stuff, and not clicking the bad. What a mess but I think UA-cam can still bring value to our lives if we want it to. Thanks for sharing!
thats why i love squat university. of course his videos do have a lot of overlap but because he does make videos of patients of his you can pinpoint really well what it is you might be going through
The way you talk, but more importantly, the things you do in and with your channel, shows true values and kownledge in this superficial and brainless shithole that the Internet is. I suscribed for that, and bought your books because of that. Never change Geoffrey. We respect you.
Solid video and mostly agree with your points 100%. That said, I first came across you on Quora and read tons of your answers, which I thought were really helpful but I think your signature line said something about being the number one fitness person on Quora and I was like "geez, get over yourself". 😂 But very glad to have come across your channel recently as your content is very straightforward and the advice here has been helpful in my own training. Also, your jokes are actually funny with the video cutaways. Props to the editor! 😂
I think a product or service should always be the focus of any company, individual, or business. That should be the goal and priority. Not to earn money. The money is a result of making a product or service that people want to buy. For example, I bought your main book a couple of years ago because I liked the content you made on UA-cam and thought it was good value. I then bought your recent book as soon as it came out, and it too was brilliant. I'm sure an element of its production and release was to earn money, and that's realistic. But the biggest reason was because you had more to say and felt a new book would fulfil that. The product came first, the money came later.
Interesting thing I noticed, is that this doesn't just exactly apply to fitness youtubers, but to youtube rather, it's what yt made those people into, and it's what happens to everyone for whom yt is a main income source.
i think something important you brought up is the way that the industry of it all consumes the largest content creators so wholly. as much as they can be blamed, most had humble beginnings and big dreams and now are simply chasing success w an audience they feel they earned. it's an information issue, too many ignorant beginner lifters for everyone to value the integrity of their content over their profit margin.
I just realised I'm not even flwing one of the goats of fitness youtuber after I've been watching almost 30 of his videos. Officially subscribed to the bulk monster Geoff
Bruh that baby noise came outta no where I threw my damn headphones off in search of mine lmao Its around 15:45 its in the bg, my dad instincts took over for a second lmao
yo Geoff, Im a 20 yr old following your channel for the past few weeks, really grateful for the work you put out, and learning a lot like debunking various nonsense advice and prioritizing effort in each of my sets, going past failure on isolation movements, etc. I started 6 months ago and my starting physique is pretty much the exact same skinny build that you had when you started, im around 6' 155lb, but I've been stuck looking the exact same, without a SINGULAR sign of change. My lifts are going up, my rest is pretty much perfect according to my overpriced health ring, and I eat enough to gain 2lb each month. Was it a similar experience for you, with no sign of change in the mirror on the horizon for months or even years? Does being skinny and inactive my whole life before starting gym simply put me further behind as a starting point or am I forever doomed to mediocre gains? For instance I could barely bench press the bar when i started out
1. How do you know u haven’t changed? Do you have photos before n after? Do you have body part measurements? Or do you just think you haven’t grown because you’ve gotten used to looking at your self. 2. How much have your lifts ACTUALLY gone up. Please qualify this. 3. Are you eating enough to gain 2 pounds or are you actually 2 pounds on the scale a week. 4. 6 months is generally only when people just said to even begin to see changes so be modest.
What Oscar said! I'm a novice as you but I'm obese and what's it's like 9 months in. I had the same feeling not looking different. but when i checked my pictures from Starting out and now the difference is stellar and crystal clear. So take measurements and Photos 💪
Hey update, So I did actually take measurements and the improvement was really mediocre for 6 months. It's something like going from 13 in arms to 13.3 in. I think by now I am actually starting to see a difference in the mirror from the bulk, my frame is a lot less skinny since I went from 65 kg to 75 kg. I might unironically just have terrible genetics for muscle growth considering other people's progress in their first year of lifting (newbie gains)
Spot on brother! I’ve been telling people for years now to check out you, alphadestiny, bald omni man, steve shaw, etc. These big channels are giving minimal actual useful information to real naturals.
One differenc between you pitching your books and Alpha M pushing jumpropes is that you created your books. It would be very hard (though not impossible) to expend all of the effort of writing multiple books that you didn't actually believe in. Hence, this lends a degree of sincerity to your pitch that his might easily lack. (you believed in it enough to write it). And, if that weren't enough you expended the labor required to create them and hence you would like to be compensated for that labor. Alpha m or whoever didn't create that rope; he is essentially functioning in a retail capacity. Anyway just a thought
Do you ever see the videos that say, '10 Animals you WOULDN'T believe exist!' then you click on the video and realise that most don't actually exist? Thanks for not doing useless fitness equivalent videos. I'm really just commenting because I like this channel.
Nice comment about being careful on how you grow your channel. Whatever you do to grow your channel, is what you're going to be forced to do forever. So be mindful of the journey because you don't want to create a channel that you resent.
I definitely do appreciate the way you run this channel. That's why I continue to recommend it. I hope to never see you turn to the dark side. Also I see you are subscribed to 1stman 😎
Good video Geoff, I agree especially on the transition to passion to job, youtubers start to advertise shit products and produce cookie cutter content because it is what makes money, and it's easy to say "just don't make these videos" where you don't risk losing hundreds each month. I'm not justifying this behaviour at all, I'm just saying sometimes these people kind of get stuck in it. P. S. Unrelated to the video but I saw the sunnyv2 subscription, I think that channel is a good example of big channel who isn't a sellout but also makes high quality content
Your video on self-efficacy needs pinned at the top permanently. Anytime I have questions myself, I remember it. Especially the clip of NH. “I don’t know. Have you tried fucking experimenting!?” It’s the process you mentioned. Trial and error. Today I’ve realized I probably haven’t been doing enough volume on direct work. So I’ll add an additional set to existing work, or weight, and add sets of another direct exercise. Boom. Here’s hoping in another two years I can look more decent and be on track with my own journey like you were yours. Right now it’s a battle to not focus on weight on the bar, but the work. I’ll get it down eventually.
Always enjoy these on a Saturday morning. Great channel. I think one of the few channels that really blend entertainment with knowledge are the Buffdudes. I don't use them for info so much bit they always feel kind of genuine and just genuinely love making good content and the goal of improving yourself

ok 2:56 is your best edit well done chap im dead
100%
Great information mixed with good humor edits man, your channel will grow. The no bs youtube is the way to go and quality information that you and other youtubers like Sean Nawelyj will prevail! Good shit
I know there isn't much first-order content about training in this discussion (i.e. as opposed to content about content about training). I just wanted to say that this video is a masterpiece.
Honest as usual,, stay always true to yourself and your principles Geoffrey, this is why I followed you in the first place !
I love the tropic thunder reference, such a great movie
Starts with passion then they transition and cash-in...He always be dropping lines!
very valuable video...its really sad that videos like this even need to be made but in this gen-z infested world, videos like this are necessary. Great job. Also Alpham is a clown, anyone actually watching that joke of a content creator should watch this video first.
One of your best videos = on the best videos on the internet related to fitness
@05:33 i thought Jordan Peterson was talking since i listen to your video while gaming lol. Shocked me
I was thinking about this for the past week. Most of the popular fitness channels don't even post actual fitness anymore.
19min and 25sec of truth bombs 💣💥🤯
That was a beautiful integration with the scorcher trailers. Loved it!👏👏
I appreciate the optimistic take near the end: "it could be worse". Thanks for all the great content.
The problem with clickbait is that the algorithm almost requires it. Because they don’t serve your content to your subscribers. Definitely watch veritasium video on it.
Yep, I saw that, it partially inspired this video. It's a tricky situation and tough to balance as a creator.
Thanks Geoffrey, I appreciate your reflections. I also admire your intention to be transparent to your audience.
In repayment for my earnest gratitude I extend invitation I expect you will accept. You are hereby challenged arm style, to wrestle. Let virtue be your guide, and find our arms wrestling thusly!
I think you’ve made good points. I’m not sure what more the informed individual looking to continue to learn and share their knowledge can do other than keep clicking with trepidation, finding the good stuff, and not clicking the bad. What a mess but I think UA-cam can still bring value to our lives if we want it to. Thanks for sharing!
thats why i love squat university. of course his videos do have a lot of overlap but because he does make videos of patients of his you can pinpoint really well what it is you might be going through
I appreciate the vid, Geoffrey. Some truth bombs that needed to be said!
Dude I love your edits, the tropic thunder posture edit was perfect haha
The way you talk, but more importantly, the things you do in and with your channel, shows true values and kownledge in this superficial and brainless shithole that the Internet is. I suscribed for that, and bought your books because of that.
Never change Geoffrey. We respect you.
Just your average good channel that I want to support enjoyer here.
Pretty generous to place Max Chewning into
‘fitness’ these days.
There's a lot of good advice here. I want to start a youtube channel to get teens into coding and this was very helpful.
The editing is absolutely legendary
I’m addicted to your realness.
That whole Tropic Thunder bit on Jeremy Ethier and his posture videos was genius - that made me proper lol!
love that you subscribed to the drinker 👍
I asked you a question on Ig and you answered several times, you are the best
Did the honesty. Appreciated.
I just realised I'm not even flwing one of the goats of fitness youtuber after I've been watching almost 30 of his videos. Officially subscribed to the bulk monster Geoff
MPMD definitely went the clickbait route
Can't blame Derek, but I really miss the passion for knowledge vs "Here's my 5th video on Zac Efron's jaw"
This, Sir, was fantastic 💪
Bruh that baby noise came outta no where I threw my damn headphones off in search of mine lmao
Its around 15:45 its in the bg, my dad instincts took over for a second lmao
Love your content! Just started watching your videos today love how you keep it real. Keep it up 👊
yo Geoff, Im a 20 yr old following your channel for the past few weeks, really grateful for the work you put out, and learning a lot like debunking various nonsense advice and prioritizing effort in each of my sets, going past failure on isolation movements, etc.
Hey update,
So I did actually take measurements and the improvement was really mediocre for 6 months.
@@exyl_sounds Keep going man! 💪
I love how you included yourself in the thumbnail hahaha
I definitely do appreciate the way you run this channel. That's why I continue to recommend it. I hope to never see you turn to the dark side. Also I see you are subscribed to 1stman 😎
God, that Tropic Thunder "Scorcher" edit killed me lol
Have you tried fucking experimenting!?”
It’s the process you mentioned.
