I worked doing HIV/AIDS education in the 90s and would go to jails to educate men on the basics of HIV and AIDS. This one jail had me speak to a group of men who were so friendly and approachable. I was very pleased with how well they received the information. When I was leaving, the main contact at the jail said he was happy I could speak to the men since no one ever talked to them since they were all sex offenders. I was floored. They came off as nice, normal, friendly. Nothing led me to believe they were sex offenders or capable of harming someone. They all seemed trustworthy, likeable and worst of all safe to be around. I was later told this is how they get people to lower their guard by having a trustworthy persona. Scary.
