Sometimes, any motivation is better than none at all.
Even in Hitler's case?
@@dillfunk-vd9je yeah in his case too, the concept of killing people that are bad for society is actualy good even tho killing humans is bad thing, the problem in him was that he though jews were the "bad" society to destroy. but he was 75 years late for that cuz if he said "Karens, Flat-earthers and Anti-vaccers are bad" than he would be the good guy. (Btw it wasnt his only motivation, he had several of those like taking over the world and making all "Germany" )
@@Sam-kz5sx yeah Remember we all have our opinions
Joker
Perfect Cell: “am I a joke to you?”
Umbridge's motivation was political/mage-racesit. at the end of book 4 when harry returned with dead cedric and announced to everyone that "He" is back - the public panicked. or at least Cornelius Fudge (the minister) didnt want to be seen as panicking so he started a smear campaign in the media against potter and dumb-dork. the main goal was to discredit harrys claims and to de"throne" dumbles from all his positions.
furthermore Umbitch is a pureblood fanatic and the mere thought that a "halfblood" Potter could have even the lightest bit of positive fame is unbearable for her. - thats the reason she sends the dementors to Little Winging to assassinate Harry.
The basic motivation for appointing Umbitch to Hogwarts is to "Spy" on Dumbles. Cornelius has the "bright" idea that Dumbles, wanting HIS seat as the Minister, is building an "army" of students to overthrow his regime. Dolores hat the task of proving this and bringing them in as criminals.
Yup. Basically a damage control government rep
Umbitch 😂
Zirt D All They Got Was Conspiracy.
I Don’t Think They Proved Anything Even Before Umbridge’s Death.
@@One_of_Many750 I don't remember there was any mention of Umbitch's (love that, Zirt D!) death in any of the novels, which is the problem with the Potter stuff on YT: people base everything on the damn _movies,_ which don't have the time---or the inclination!---to explain anything. Read the _books,_ folks, and quit following up on all the side corridors (or swinging staircases!) in the movies.
@@One_of_Many750 She died? I don't remember seeing that mentioned in the books
1. Dr. Doofenshmirz
He broke his train
parallel dimension Doofenshmirz LOST his "choo choo", he didn't break his train
Doofenshmirz Evil Incorperated
Lost it actually
His balloon floated away.
Also his parents didn't show up to his own birth
Umbridge is trying to discredit Harry because he said the Dark Lord was back, and because they are either stubborn, or stupid they don't believe him (shoulda taken a picture).
Yeep the Ministry was in denial of Voldy what a bunch of useless idiots and that’s why they target Harry, to silence him, make him shut up about everything, throw all the shits they can make up with onto him, basically :( had they been more competent and warn the public earlier there might not be so much death and sufferings in the second wizarding war
Because proof that Voldemort is back would incline the ministry of magic was useless
Out of all the magic they possess, a camera could have been the most valuable asset to their inventory. That's funny tbh.
@@Nicholas_Chen_ the death eaters in the ministry help fuel the smear campaign to overthrow it.
I dunno... Given her later position in Voldy's Ministry, I figured that she was punishing Harry back then, because she hated him for overthrowing her idol. And since all Voldy supporters were trying to obscure and confuse any news of his return, she was doing that as an added bonus. It seemed to me that her main motivation was to punish harry for getting rid of her role model.
No no no... Umbridge’s motivation isn’t she doesn’t like kids... you got it all wrong, she was the typical Damage Control government official... Smh
She loved Malfoy and the rest of slytherine.
cathy2000 I think she just used them. That psychopath isn’t capable of love :)
Eh, she actually wanted to have order within the Wizarding World. She even said so herself before she was grabbed by Grawp. *(Best Umbridge voice)* "I will have order!" *(Drops the voice)* Yeesh..... What a byotch.
Becky Deitz Exactly. Once she’s given the chance (as seen in DH) she would put the world to her twisted and horrific order.
@@Nicholas_Chen_ Yep. And Voldemort's grand reign really helped her get to have that order. Yee....
Number 1 should’ve been Dark Helmet’s motivation from Spaceballs
Because he just wanted to tell Lone Starr that he is his father, grandfather, and his cousin’s former roommate.
sounds like a total idiot
What a flashback.
Father's, brother's, nephew's, cousin's former roommate.
That's not a motivation. He's telling Lone Star the humorous part of him being a relative, which he is not.
ultra gamer20 but it’s supposed to be ridiculous
He who utterly controls the media of the world, controls the world. That's what that Bond villain was after. Because once he had control, he would only need to silence a few voices, and everybody else would be under his rule. Scary
What about the girl in The Purge Election Year who wanted a candy bar?
She was just a minor villain at best, and people are expected to act stupid and/or insane during the Purge anyway.
I don't know why this comment doesnt have more likes
She and her gal pals attacked that convenience store on Purge Night for the most pettiest reason of being caught shoplifting. Seriously tho, invading a store with AKs and buzzsaws over a candy bar?
Mercury 😂😂😂
Mercury She just used that as an excuse to purge.
A lot of these weren’t about the villain’s motivations, they were about their plans. In fact, most of the motivations on this list boiled down to “money”, which is a fine motivation for a villain.
The Home Alone franchise is fun.
But not to be taken too seriously.
Therefore, one kid against dumb villains with little something extra is the motivation.
Selling dinosaurs on auction isn't that stupid. It makes sense in the story
people will do a lot for money or to get more money... those are not particularly dumb motivations. Given that, say, drinking water inevetably is going to be on short order, making huge profit from it sounds like a legit strategy if you are evil (ask Nestlé )
Mills still sucks as a villian. I mean come on, this is supposed to be a bad guy. He’s just James Bond villian wannabe who’s voice makes Justin Bieber’s sound masculine. I mean look at this guy, most of his dialogue consists of whining like a little bitch with Dr. Wu (a much better villian) and Ken Wheatley (an Emuler Fudd wannabe) cause he couldn’t get his money. Not to mention most of his monologues go absolutely no where. Nobody cares what you have to say, you wuss. I swear he may be greedy, but his actions due to it are just poor judgement. I picture Mills would break down crying like a bitch and wetting himself in the Wilderness (especially since the Dinosaurs are loose). He’d be like “please I don’t wanna die, I don’t know how to survive out of my comfort zone”. Even Dennis Nedry had bigger balls than this wuss.
I agree, if dinosaurs were created again in real life. Countries would pay millions for one
What about Cats and Dogs?
The main antagonist, Mr. Tinkles wants to make the whole world allergic to dogs.
Doctor Awesomeness it’s a kids show and he’s a cat. Do the math
@@Bostonterrierslol I know, but his plan is still stupid.
Besides, allergens can't travel by mice through sewers across the whole planet in under 24 hours, let alone with a series of boat and plane flights inbetween.
who even remembers that movie?
Cuz it's not really a dumb plot for that kind of movie.
Professor umbridge loved slytherine kids she just strictly ordered the kids to believe voldemort has not returned. The reason Gryffindor were constantly punished is because they believed Harry potter and they loved Dumbledore who both refused to not believe voldemort has returned.
Weren't Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw also punished for the same reasons tho?
@@marcohidalgo1101 Exactly. The whole Hogwarts besides Slytherin was against her. The only reason Slytherins were favoured was because she used them as her eyes and ears across the school, and the Slytherins think by working for her, a powerful politician, would ensure a bright future for them once they graduate. they were merely using each other for benefits, there's no love in it
Mojo: *has venom in thumbnail*
Me: *say sike right now*
Laurel Hedare's motivation from Catwoman wasn't just out of greed but narcissistic spite. As she explained in her monologue at 4:33, Laurel created Beuline as a means of saying "If I can't be pretty and powerful anymore, no one will!".
In the comics during Agent Venom's time with the Guardians of the Galaxy they find the symboite homeworld. There they learn that the majority of the race seek out worthy hosts to make them great heroes and help promote and maintain peace and harmony. Maybe that's were the writer got the idea for the motivation.
Not explained in the movie, that's where it matters.
to be fair.. home alones motivation is kind of legitimate for people of their position.....
Joe Brucato kind of it’s makes perfect sense for a robber to rob rich people expected to not be home
@@jjkimble9214 The problem with that plan is that they stick around after encountering resistance. In the second movie, it's arguably revenge thanks to happenstance.
Bthsr71 ok but again they stick around bc they didn’t expect to be outsmarted by a little Yh they should have left but to say it made no sense is kind ridiculous
AKA trump voters
root 🤔🤔🤔
I think Dr Emma's motivation to bring balance to Nature by introducing giant Radioactive Monsters in Godzilla deserves a mention on the on this list.
Well, yeah. As much as I love that movie...Emma Russel was a massive moron.
Same with Alan Jonah for the same reason. And he got away with it!!
After seeing so many other lists with Umbridge in them, I thought you understood her better. She was just sadistic that way.
Got one: Malecifent
Didn’t get an invite.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Which one you talk about? Disney story or other stories?
吴子轩 original Sleeping Beauty movie.
Remember, Dolores umbridge is the only person to leave a permanent scar on Harry's body other than Voldemort
Bad motivation or not, the Wet Bandits are still two of the funniest villains in movies. I never get tired of seeing Harry and Marv getting their asses kicked every Christmas season.
This is a good vid. Coming from a person who read the Order of the Phoenix a couple times, Umbridge's motivation was linked to the ministry of magic, where she was before going to Hogwarts. The ministry and her believed that Dumbledore was lying about Voldemort's return. She despised harry because he had witnessed Voldemort's return, and therefore contradicted her beloved ministry. She was better to the Slytherins because they opposed Harry. Just had to get this out :D
I don't like the Mandarin twist but should Trevor Slattery be really in here? Dude doesn't even know what's going on around him.
Yeah, he was largely oblivious to what he was complicit in, so he doesn't really count as having a dumb motivation. He thought he was just hired to act, and he was. He just didn't know what the filming was for. If you're being hired to act then his motivation makes sense. If he were an actual villain, then that motivation would be stupid.
Aldrich Killian is the Mandarin. He literally says that in the climax fight scene. Aldrich also explains in great detail why he hates Tony. I don’t think the Mandarin belongs on this list.
@Shadowstalker55 honestly, at this point, who even cares? Mandarin is the Iron Man's archnemesis and Tony is dead. Even if they bring another iteration of Mandarin, what's the bloody point?
@@MrHitmancheg Exactly. And given the tumultuous relationship between Disney and Sony, trying to transfer Perter into the role since he's the heir apparent is a bit too dicey.
The Prince of His Own Kingdom mandarin didn’t do nothing to fight with iron man from the third movie.
"Voldemort is back!"
Umbridge/Fudge: "FAKE NEWS!"
I remember Gene Siskel & Roger Ebert praising the villain's motivation in Tomorrow Never Dies b/c at the time the media's power was a lot more prevalent. In Ebert's own words: "James Bond has battled evil commies and megalomaniac madmen; perhaps it was only a matter of time until he faced off against a media baron -- the only sort of figure in today's world that actually does seek global domination. His enemy in 'Tomorrow Never Dies' wants to start a war in order to create headlines for the launch of his latest news channel. Just imagine what Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner would like to do to each other and imagine either one of them doing it to the Chinese, and you'll get the idea."
There are tons of movies and stories where a villain is evil for the sake of being evil. This is by far the worst, most shallow, and easiest villain to write. I think because movies are usually only 2 hours it can be difficult to establish philosophical or psychological backstory, yet some movies are still fully able which means it comes down to writing talent.
Um... No, Slattery didn't take anyone out, he literally explains that he never killed anyone.
Jeez, no wonder creativity is dying when audiences are so simpleminded...
What about Darius Sayle in Stormbreaker - causing a mass genocide because he was bullied at school? Yes it's the same as the book and it was dumb in the book too.
9. The Mandarin being an actor isn't a villain's motivation; it's a plot point.
8. You are 100% correct about this entry. I remember when I walked out of the theater I thought "Amanda Waller's first mission for Task Force X is to save Amanda Waller from a threat she created by assembling Task Force X?"
In the cinema industry, either a villian is super good, or a villian is super bad.
And most movies have bad villains, very bad villains.
@Adrian dormamu is a good villain but just slightly bad cause he's forgettable, the villain in thor the dark world sucks cause he's forgettable, bad, and he just sucks
Well, there are a lot of villains, who are int the middle, but no one remembers them, because they were neither good or bad villains.

Michael Myers.

Dio or Diavolo from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Damien from The Omen
Electro had a really stupid motivation also. Come to think of it, good majority of the Amazing Spider-Man movie villains had stupid motivations.
Green Goblin is probably the only villain with a half-competent motivation, I at least understood his paranoia for dying a horrible death due to his Genetic illness, tho it still doesn't quite make sense since his dad died at 60 something and he clearly said 'it began at your age', and he was like what, Peter's age?? I loved Dane Dehaan's portrayal, probably the only good thing coming out of those movies along with Andrew and Emma
What about Lizard?
Doing something noble like trying to create nuclear fusion but having that corrupted by a short circuit that allows mind controlling robot arms to go on a crime spree that endangers the whole city isn't a valid motivation for Doc Oc?
@@Nicholas_Chen_ What about the Sandman, he just wanted to be with his daughter, but got caught up in the consequences of some bad choices like the worst place to try to escape by going through a science experiment?
@@ArgonTheAware I meant the villains in the two Amazing Spider-Man movies. The ones you're talking about are the Tobey Maguire ones.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit’s plot of a highway was based on highway expansion in the LA area back in the late 40’s to mid 50’s.
The expansion was trying to make the automobile the dominant transportation over trains/rail-way-systems.
Do your homework better, guys. You are cool, but you missed on that one.
Nice vid guys your scripts are solid. Keep up the good work!!!
I always said the villain in Iron Man 3 made no sense.
With Umbridge, I assumed her schtick was that she's a psycopathic control freak. With Harry and Marv, they're motives are relatively sane compared to these other schmucks (they're only going after Kevin 'cause he's a witness... who keeps pissing them off). But yeah, Carver's scheme always felt stupid to me, as far as bond villain schemes go.
She loved kids especially draco malfoy. She was hired by the ministry of magic to arrest dumbledor(who was in hiding during the time) and erase the belief that voldemort has returned.
@@cathy-pz2to I think she only liked Malfoy and his cronies was 'cause they were suck ups.
I've never seen Catwoman, but motivation reminds me of the Batman: The Animated Series 2 part episode, Feat Of Clay.
As to Roger Rabbit, motivation isn't that dumb when you think about it as if you can buy up land cheap and sell it at a high price.
It's not the first time something similar happened.
The honorable mentions are the best part of any mojo video, it’s the only time the narrator doesn’t talk over the entire scene.
2:59 Without Tony Stark, there´s no way or point in fixing the Mandarin
I'm surprised Shredder and Erik Sacks Evil Plan from 2014 Ninja Turtles Movie didn't make it on The List. Poisoning New York, and using Mutigian too Cure The Poison he and Shredder Unleashed, just so he can become Stupid Rich.
I remember in The Pacifier, when we learn the seemingly nice next-door neighbors are actually spies, Vin Diesel asks them why, and the husband just replies, “North Korea pays better.” I thought that was pretty stupid.
Sorrento in Ready, Player One had a rather dumb motivation, too. In the book, it made sense-his company wanted to win the contest so they could get people to pay to use the OASIS, but in the movie one scene suggested they wanted to make a section of the OASIS that’s just ads, and why would anyone want to go to it?
vulture from homecoming has the best motivation: he needed money for his family, and not to help sick mother, but to bring food on the table
Tbh. I was fine with Drake's character in Venom. The whole thing with symbiosis is they have to be a perfect match mentally. This is where the scene where Venom comes in and calls both Eddie and himself losers. Riot sees the humans nothing more than fodder to further his own agenda. The same thing can be said about Drake. We see him murder various innocents, to his own scientists to line his own pockets. He talks about curing people with his speeches, but that's all it is. Talk. He's just looking to line his pockets and he doesn't care who he hurts to get there.
And it's not like this is unrealistic. How much have we seen Disney damage something just to line their own pockets? I'd say Mandarin's motivation in Iron Man 3 was way worse. He decided to antagonize Tony because he stood him up on a business chat... really!? I don't care how crappy your life is, a no-show isn't going to turn somebody into a terrorist sociopath.
I think TMNT 2014 with Eric Sacks motivation being wanting to get rich from the government by selling the antidote was stupid because he’s obviously incredibly wealthy with his own company, doesn’t make sense that he’s doing it for money when he already has a lot of money
Well if they do have good motivation wouldn't that make them less bad? if you think about it the worst are those who do bad stuff for no reason
Great video and I enjoyed it and have a blessed night

Weird, but of the villians with "good" motives can have stupid ones as well. Doc Ock for example.
Aldrich Killian(Guy Pearce) was the Mandarin. He literally says that later in the movie. Trevor Slattery(Ben Kingsley) was just a decoy. Aldrich also explains in great detail why he hates Tony Stark(RDJ).
Venom is an anti-hero and his motivation was to stop Charlton Drake from bringing the symbiotes down to earth
Excellent list. Seems like more and more that dumb reasons to be a villian, goes along with the villian talking too much, revealing their farfetch plans, and then letting hero getting the upper hand. Once again, excellent list.

Umbridge was clearly a magical purist. She was absolutely hateful of muggles and muggle borns. She wanted suppression of those individuals.
Selling Water at ridiculous prices is ridiculous because Nestle's already doing stuff like that with rainwater.
friezas entire motivation in broly movie was to grow a centimeter taller and no mention?
Probably focusing on live action films.
If I were you, I would put Hans from Frozen on this list.
Hans' plan was actually pretty solid. Marry a gullible princess in order to gain power and influence. Hell, the princess's sister went nuts and he was given power on the spot. Marrying for power made perfect sense.
His execution of it was dumb. He had no way of knowing whether killing Elsa would stop the winter or not. And he walked away when he had Anna dead to rights.
1992disney Hans was pretty smart, cunning and almost succeeded. I would add Edgar Balthazar from The Aristocrats. He did not seem to be very intelligent. He thought the fortune would go to the cats and decided to catnap them. Cats cannot use money!
@@Wiccanwolf08 But he still had no reason to be the villain other than for Disney Animation Studios to repeat Pixar's formula for success so they themselves can become "great again". And they ended up failing miserably at it.

12:12 I LOVE your TINY WIDE CAPTION for Poison Ivy's motivation. Couldn't you have shortened it? :)
Ooh ooh, do top 10 most preventable deaths in anime. :)
Umbridge's motives were unclear, unjust and unfair.
What about Syndrome from The Incredibles?
He became a supervillain just because he got rejected by Mr Incredible? give me a break.
Wow completely missed the point of Umbridge, can’t blame you as the films don’t convey character motivations well ie Mr Crouch...
But Umbridge was authoritarian and power hungry, also she was supposed to blare the boundaries between good and bad, as in she definitely wasn’t a death eater and was loyal to the ministry but at a time were the ministry itself was blaring the the lines between good and bad (still anti-Voldemort but also denying his return and trying to control Hogwarts) like it says in the books, “the world isn’t separated into good people and death eaters”
Fuck me ive just realised I’m a nerd. 👍
She loves kids especially draco malfoy
cathy2000 exactly, she likes anyone that falls in line and is also corrupt and power hungry, hence why she lets the slytherin quidditch team reform and forms the inquisitorial squad
Hmm I think the film made it pretty clear. During the dinner scene Hermione said Umbridge being hired means Ministry is trying to interfere with Hogwarts, and the Daily Prophet montage pretty much confirmed Umbridge is basically the hitwoman of Fudge on attacking Dumbledore and controlling Hogwarts. In fact her lines constantly mention ‘The Ministry’.
Nicholas Chen ah maybe, I never took much notice of the films tbh, haven’t watched them in years, was always much more into the books; but in that case it makes WatchMojo even more wrong if all that info was in the film too!
Judge Doom's only motivation wasn't building a freeway. That freeway was just a symbol of power. Business over anything else. Power, money. Doom was an insane toon, whatta hell do you want from him as a motivation?
It's kinda cute that you think corporations don't make addictive products and still stay in business, and that if a product is dangerous the FDA would ban it. Obviously you've never heard of cigarettes.
Judge Doom wasn't building the freeway (Eddie Valiant's opinion of it was in error)...he wanted to bulldoze Toontown and build motels, restaurants and various businesses to capitalize on it.

If you really stop and think about it, using Dinos as living weapons is pretty stupid. Depending on how the law treats them, various weapons banned for use against humans/civilians are suddenly on the table, modern weaponry could make short work of any dino, you have to raise, feed, house, and train them all, and to top it off, their cold blood severely limits the number of potential theaters they could be deployed in.
I got an add just before charity money was said and i was a bit confused ( this was when they were talking anout home alone and i have to discard this write the time stamp )
To be fair, in Jurrassic World Hoskins wanted to make weapons out of dinosaurs. So in Jurrassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the weaponize dinosaur idea came to be.
1993 Broly from DBZ should've been on here and we all know why.
Don't forget the Maximoff siblings from Avengers 2. They went after Tony Stark because the bomb that didn't detonate said Stark on the side. Okay, so if it said Raytheon or some other DoD Defense contractor, they would go after them instead? Nevermind the country that was dropping the bombs in the first place. Another instance of blaming the gun and not the shooter.
I disagree with Judge Doom in the honorable mentions, it was fully a sane plan for an insane toon. :D

"The FDA would see her in court."
There was a time when that might have been believable. However, legislation in america over the last 20 years seems to unreasonably favour the corporations over the consumers; protecting profits over people. In all likelihood, she'd have hired lobbyists and paid off enough doctors to spread the false message that the product is harmless and that the negative effects were due to outside factors, not her products. It wouldn't be until 30 or 40 years later (after she dies or grows a conscience) that her 'skincare' products would be seen as harmful and even then, the FDA would still be on the sidelines. Her victims would have organised a class action lawsuit, which she'd have settled out of (civil) court. The victims would have to waive any litigious aspirations, so there'd be no criminal prosecutions (ie: no FDA).
In the end, her products would still be on the shelves of stores. It's honestly 50/50 as to whether- on this day in the hypothetical future- her products even have a safety warning on them...
Ps: Of course, in the 3rd world, these products would have been freely available the whole time. Other advanced nations however would never have approved the products for sale, so Dumb Motivation Lady would have to avail herself with the profits coming from sales in america and in 3rd world nations only. All in all, it genuinely seems like a viable business plan. You just have to remember to -bribe the right people- use your corporation's right of free speech to talk to the right politicians...

1:12 She wants to oppress any rumor of Voldemort's ressurection for the ministry of magic.
If you have a terrible read just say that being the bad guy is fun.
"But then you showed me friendship and I realised that's all I ever wanted."
"Really?"
"No, not really. Being evil is too much fun!"
Umbridge's motivation is actually very clear if you read Order of the Phoenix. Cornelius Fudge was unwilling to relinquish his power, and admitting Voldemort returned would have done exactly that. So he orchestrated (or tried to) a government coverup, including sacking Dumbledore from his positions of power, and discrediting anyone else like Arthur Weasley who is fully convinced about Voldemort's return, and Umbridge was placed at Hogwarts as a spy to ensure that Fudge's coverup extended to the students as well. And then in Deathly Hallows, she willingly goes along with Voldemort's plans and uses her new position in the Ministry to try and wipe out all the muggle borns.
I always thought judge doom's main motivation was to destroy toontown and the freeway idea was just the way he found to do it.
Also, Umbridge doesn’t just condescend to the students but the teachers as well. Hagrid, Trelawney, Snape, and even McGonagall all get her “oh, honey” face.
