I was under the impression that I found this video less informative than usual. Then I realized it was because I knew most of it already, because Talon got me advocating for my own body and doing my own research already, since I only get the one
If I remember correctly, in my own research, some foods inhibit the absorption of certain heavy metals. Apparently tofu is great regarding lead, 110g tofu a day may reduce absorption by around 80%. Eat iron foods, fibre/phytates, thiamine-rich foods, berries, apples, green tea, etc at least 2 hours beforehand to reduce heavy metal absorption.
For something rather humorous, I had a debate with a online nut who was dead set on the idea that humans best diet was purely of meat/animal products and some weird counter-veganism, and when I raised the point of how humans very effectively break down sugars UNLIKE many obligate-carnivorous animals, he countered with how “some people can break down arsenic, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.” which always stuck out to me as such a terrible point. Sugar is a simple hydrogen-carbon compound and a spoonful of it, while not good for you, is entirely harmless. Whereas a spoonful of arsenic results in you dropping dead.
From what I've read there isn't much on what it does just yet. Just "It probably does something bad, maybe part of the cause of Alzheimer's." Of course it also probably isn't a problem for most people unless you work with aluminum industrially.
Aluminium cans aka "tins" are coated with plastic because acidic tomato paste absorbs aluminium. You should never boil tomato soup in an aluminium vessel or bake tomatoes wrapped in foil.
@@JetstreamGW It's possible to ingest large quantaties of Aluminum if you use Aluminum foil together with acidic foods, as they will dissolve the foil.
@chaoswraith im pretty sure the citric acid that is in most veg/fruits can react with it, but first their fluid needs to get on the foil, which wouldn't be an issue if it happened while cooking since it gets "degraded" really fast with the temperature of the oven. The real issue is when you use the foil to store somethinh in the fridge, the fluids go on the bottom with the foil and you still eat it up, but i know no one who stores food in tin foil, i don't even own tin foil in my house ngl. Im pretty sure that with regular food packaging regulators like the one in europe you'r pretty much safe, idk about the american one tho. Unrelated but im still baffled to this day on how they permitted both mr beast's lunchly or the pink sauce one made by chef pii.
6:13 Oh, I always thought that marlin and swordfish were the same fish. I blame animal crossing for translating the "Blue Marlin" as "Pez Espada" (swordfish) in spanish.
From the moment i understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of heavy metals. I aspired to the impurity of arsenic rice. Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you only get the one of will wither and you will beg my kind to save you. But i am already saved. For the Mercury is immortal.
This video is a top-notch general directory in terms of what to be aware of. At the end of the day, if you're concerned, blood tests are the way to go. You'll see which heavy metals you're high in (if any) and what foods to avoid / what measures to take. Thanks for the great video as usual
Aluminium used to be common in pots and pans, but acidic foods like tomato paste oxidize and absorb aluminium, so it gets into the food. Thats why aluminium vessels today are coated with teflon or other heat resistant material. Scratcy frying pans with broken coating can be a source of aluminium, as well as foil, if used regularly in cooking.
@chaoswraith UA-cam does not allow links, but you can use search engine with lemon + aluminium foil and there are plenty of scientific sources. Many sites seem to pressume that people are aware and they don't need to be educated.
What was not mentioned but I find interesting is that lead is much more dangerous to children because higher exposure causes lower IQ and many behavioral issues. This issue got better once we removed lead from fuels used in cars. We still use lead in airplane fuels though.
Lead is also a cause of degeneration of the body as it gets older, iirc? Like it accumulates since your body can't flush it out very efficiently, and causes brain damage and such
Lead was also prevalent in things like thermometers, and the distribution of them was cut, at least here in Europe, due to the risk of that people, especially kids could die from it in case it cracked and caused the metal to leak out.
We still use lead in SOME airplane fuels. Mostly for small propeller aircraft. Not a concern for most, unless you live near a regional airport, since those typically are the ones that service small aircraft.
I completely changed my diet six months ago based on nationally recommended guidelines, but it only made my health worse. It wasn’t until I read 'The 23 Former Doctor Truths' that I realized doing the opposite of what the government advises can actually make a difference. No wonder the doctor who wrote it left their career-speaking the truth often challenges the system!
I usually eat a lot of brown rice because I like rice base dishes and opted for the whole grain option. I am not opposed to white rice and I’ll eat it after workouts or whatever because maybe the easier digesting carb may have a tiny tiny benefit to repairing muscle faster but I may start eating more white instead.
Thank you for another amazing video, Talon. I'm currently rewatching all your videos (some for the 3rd time) and taking notes in a spreadsheet to better balance my diet considering what is most available to me in my area and under my budget. One thing I love is how you often mention the effects some ingredients have on the Thyroid gland. If you have knowledge on the matter, it would be great if you could make a video on how nutrition can improve Thyroid function. I mean, medication is a must, and I do take it, but a proper nutrition can only benefit us. Not to mention the many people (specially women) with Hashimoto's and generally underperforming thyroids that suffer from the effects but don't qualify for meds because they are juuuuust below the "severe" markers of T4.
Studies show fasting seems to work on reducing some heavy metals and contaminants. A 10 day fast decreased urinary nickel by 15% and arsenic by 72%, traces cobalt, chromium and glyphosate(component of pesticides) were detected prior the fast that went untraceable after the fast, there was also a 30% decrease of lead in hair. Then there was a study on Ramadan's fasting effects and it found significantly lower levels of chromium, aluminium, mercury, manganese, and cobalt after the test subjects fasted for 14 and 28 days, there was also a much-reduced blood lead level after 28 days of fasting.
Oh wow, I had no idea dark chocolate carries the risk heavy metal poisoning! I really do like dark chocolate. I don't eat THAT much of it but still, I'll be more careful with it from now on.
I've heard that eating selenium rich foods can help with mercury in the diet since it binds to the mercury. Also please do a video on boron, specifically its SHBG reducing effects
How much does this information change your actual diet? For me the only thing I could see myself doing is avoiding eating a lot of brown rice and those certain fish?
Are there foods that help purge heavy metals? I've been told that cilantro and especially cilantro juice help the body to filter out heavy metals, anyone else hear that?
