Absolutely SUPERB tutorial on a terrific product. Sincere thanks. I have the older version GST-5 GL (no Bluetooth, so SD Card). Your instructions on how to clear the shot history also work for the GST-5 GL and so does the Shot Coefficient. Thanks, that's unlocked those two functions. For anyone considering buying one of these, I'd say that they add so much data feedback to range practice and for anyone with a back yard practice net it makes home practice just as good as a trip to the range. Well worth the investment. The older model is much cheaper, but the App & SD Card facilities on the GST-7 make the data SO much more useable.
Thank you Chris, this is great. Ordered mine from ebay and they ship from Japan to california and i got it in 4 days. Your guide saves me so much time from Translating!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just tried out my brand new unit today at the driving range and found that my actual carry distances were consistently about 25 yards less than what the unit displayed at coefficients of 100. So with your guide, I just adjusted my coefficients from 100 to 75. Thank you so much again for the video!
Yes indeed. I never had a chance to validate carry distance on course or test versus a higher end monitor (eg:Trackman). The carry distance from the device is not too far from the yardage I usually play so I did not tune the coef.
Wonderful video. Just received my GST-5W today. Will save me a lot of time. Can't figure out how to get to the battery. I assume you just charge it with the cord when low, but at some point you'll need to replace the battery. Will the windows app work on a MAC? I'm confused as to why I would want to change the coefficients, but once I get some data maybe I can figure that out. All my SIM2 irons seem to be about 2-3 degrees less loft than settings, but what that means for the coefficient data confuses me.
Think about the coefficient as a correction to the calculated distance. If the carry distance is always longer (or shorter) than the calculated distance, you can adjust with the coefficient. In your case, since there's less loft on your club than the one used by the device, the calculated carry distance could be lower than the real one.
Hi Chris, thanks for this upload. It's very useful and helpful of you to provide a pretty thorough insight into the function and supported features of this device. Did you work out each and every part? Or were you able to access relevant guidance to make this tutorial? Many thanks.
Yep, this is based on my user experience. Thought it would be useful to share as all I could find around was comparative review, and not much on the Android/Windows app.
@@wingpingfan7500 If you look at the LCD screen, you can see the positive electrode for mph, but I do not think the firmware allows switching from one to another. My assumption is based on the CSV file format: there's no way to know the measurement unit (mph or m/s) from the file. Hence the firmware is set to measure with only one measurement unit.
Great review. Does the app have the ability to switch units from m/s? You mentioned that the help file will be available in English but there is no link. Can you please share the English help
Thanks for the video! Really appreciate it. Question: - Can we change the language from Japanese into English? - Can we change the unit from m/s to miles/hr?
Sorry, I have the GST5W and I cannot get a bluetooth connection so I guess the cheaper version has less feautures than this one you reviewed... good luck all
Dexx mentions, above, that the GST-5W doesn't have bluetooth, nor SD card. I'm assuming yours doesn't have an SD card capability, correct? I ask, because I just ordered the GST-5W and was wondering.
@@Parrott65 Yes, I have SD card capability on GST5W.... I also noted that the club head speed is measured by GST5W as max just prior to impact which means it measures without the ball compression factor so take off approx 4-5% of the club head speed on GST5W to give equivalent Trackman/GCHMT...... For example GST5W was showing my carry distances within correct paced yardages. eg on one super strike it measured 277 yds carry, 73.4 ms ball speed (164 mph) yet club head speed 115 mph (51.5 ms) which is 3 mph higher than I have ever recorded on 1000s of strikes on accurate LM. The session is here ua-cam.com/video/AjjhtBos7ac/v-deo.html and a quick review of that data is here ua-cam.com/video/daChxvvmIS8/v-deo.html I did a remark on one video after reviewing matching data from my old Launch Monitor and a Phil Mickleson video where he talks about different launch monitors. I thought my Driver swing speed was up to 117 mph avg but reality is it is more like 112 mph maximum... you can adjust the coefficients but I am also using the raw data and subtracting 4% from club speed and measuring distances at the park and comparing with each club. Driver and longer clubs seem more accurate than some wedge data.
Thanks for sharing the files. I just received mine finally! I noticed that it has a putter mode as well. Did you try that function and see how accurate it is? Btw I was able to install the app from android store directly. Cheers
I only gave a try at the putter mode when I received my units. The only difficulty regarding the Android App was to get an hold on it as there is region restriction. Glad you could install via Google Play directly. If issue, check the link in the download, you will find it.
Yes, no issues with app install. I'll try pairing it tomorrow. Btw regarding the units, I see that there are spots on the LCD for imperial units ( mph, yards), but there is no mention of any settings to switch units in the manual. Too bad!
Ive done a lot of testing, especially with putter and it seems the carry distances on this device are in metres and not yards as I thought. Very accurate for putting and I will add a video showing that later..... I found it accurate to the cm for putting but it means I will definitely have to adjust the coefficients for my other clubs

I suppose you are using the unit in the way there are suppose to be used: 1 to 1.5 meter straight behind the ball, with the unit height about the same as the ball (in case the ball is on a mat, you need to lift up the unit - there is a bracket for this). If that's the case, then if the unit is still under warranty, try contacting the seller as the unit itself doesn't seem to be serviceable.
Does it work with foam or wiffle balls? What kind of battery does it take. What's the difference between the GST-7, GST-5W and GST-5GL, which is newer?
The GST-7BLE is the latest model. It uses lithium ion battery rechargeable via the USB port. They do not seems to be easily replaceable as there's no access to battery. I never tried foam or whiffle balls - even if it could measure the ball speed at impact, the theoretical distance will not be close to real ball. Finally, regarding the difference between GT5W/5GL and teh 7GL, I do not own the device so can't answer. Best would be to look for comparison at Amazon or Retailer spec www.yupiteru.co.jp/products/golf_trainer/
