I hope that more and more people put out videos that help erase stereotypes. Like this one! 💜 I think that there are a lot of Americans who live by stereotypes, but only because they never received good information. And what we see in movies is sometimes all we know. (it is hard to research every single culture in the world so I think some people just accept the stereotype) --I think there should be a responsibility to show multiple sides. At least at some point. Like if you have some country be the one that is the nationality of gangsters or hitman, then also in something else show characters from the same place that are NOT. I can only think of two Russian characters I have seen. One is in the American show “lost girl“, but she didn’t speak Russian very often. And the other was in a Japanese animation. More Russian spoke in there, and actually that was enough where I decided I wanted to learn the language. :) -- I think news is also very negative, depending on what country you are in and what is going on in politics. It shouldn’t be our only source of information. Politics does not reflect the people of a nation, or the culture of a nation. Unfortunately some people forget this.
Hello you are in train it’s my first time to see a train like that it looks like a house its so comfortable to stay looking outside the beautiful views.
Janice in Holyland 😂 you have no idea what are you talking about: third class trains in Russia are torture, believe me. If you would take first or at least second class, yes it’s quit comfortable, but only not third 😂
Living in California, but born in Russia, watching your videos is so warm and joyful sense of fillings. So thank you! and hope you`ve been enjoyed my homeland=)
That' so unusual and amazing to see non-Russian person travels through the Russia in Russian style using 2nd - 3rd class Train with common people. I'm sure that was funny and strange expirience) Thanks for your video, Gareth!
I think it’s so funny that he got asked to be quiet in the outtakes at the end, and when he lowered his voice to to say always be quiet.... like as a British person this lower volume was normal speaking volume.... dude some Americans can be loud without realising... but he’s very polite and friendly so it’s all good
You should come to the South of Russia next time. It's something completely different from everything you've seen in Russia so far. Great videos, bro, very informative.
Nostalgia is here! Was taking this awful but funny train in my youth when going from Novokuznezk (Western Siberia) to Ukraine to my grandparents. 4 days of travel, whole stories could be written about those trips. "Modern Talking" band was playing in the broken loud speakers, and "pirozhki", home-made chicken and potatoes from local babushki bought at stations during stops were eaten. Miss those times dearly... hahah P.S. The smell from the toilets and the "tambours" reeked with smoke is a memory for life..

Like you, I have almost no conception of Russia. Only from movies. And I know it has to be wrong. Because if you look at just the language, everyone thinks people speak harshly and like spies and hitmen. But I also know the language can sound very beautiful. But you don’t see that in American TV. Or movies. --I’m partway through the video and just saw the area where are you talk about expecting grey sky and People drinking vodka and everything being snow. And I thought EXACTLY. That is what they show us and movies, and we have no idea. --I was blown away by the green grass and mountains and blue sky. --One of the reasons I started learning a little Russian is because I realize the whole country feels like a giant mystery to me. We have almost no understanding of it from what our culture gives us. And that makes me want to uncover the truth. Thank you for your video you have opened up a huge world to me even through this one thing.
Unattached- Do you mean perhaps “not advertised” or “unknown”? Because I didn’t know about the trains either and I feel like I would be excited to take the trip also! LOL 😃
You must keep in mind that Gareth ride with Russian guides, who organized and planned for him the trip. In real travel you must think about everything by yourself and contact with local people without tranlators. It will be harder and not so cheap. And you can scip some beautiful places and same things like "Real Russian banya" with all atributes, lik Gareth was. Sorry for my English...
This is an awesome guide to what to expect on the Trans-Siberian Railway, man! Really well-made video. It certainly looks like a fun, interesting, one-of-a-kind experience! Haha, the outtakes at the end are the best!

Something i am planning to do in the future (althrough i would not dare to travel in 3rd class). Love non-speedy trains (and speedy as well).

One thing I always gonna miss from back home ( Russia) is sound of train and the iconic tea cups . Glad to hear you enjoyed train trip experience ! To some places we would go like black sea we would have to take train for nearly 2 days and would get food preped in advance . Usually we bring rot. chicken , boil eggs , veggies , cheese and buy rest on stops like apricots , other fresh fruits . I miss Russian trains tbh Thanks for bringing memories back !
Gareth, great vid. I was in hysterics watching you get into your bed. Just came across you - have already subscribed. Got a lot of catching up to do - looking forward to watching everything you’ve posted. Wishing you well from Ontario 🇨🇦.
I like to take the train. A day, two or three, it doesn't matter. When I get on the train, I go into a special state. It's like a bear in hibernation. I'm not in a hurry. I want to sleep as much as I can, I want to eat, but I want to look out the window as amazing landscapes fly by. You have nowhere to hurry, have time to think or just be a vegetable in the garden! You can read a book not when you have the opportunity, but as much time as you want. I am an engineer and a lot of good ideas came to mind during the trip. Some information hunger stimulates thinking. If there was a long trip, you get out of the plane tired, one desire to rest. You get off the train full of energy, full of activity. Long idleness is tiring! Stimulates activity! So many ideas appeared on the road, we need to implement them urgently!
this is a very positive video. It is not only that you dared to travel in the second or third class of a railway carriage, but also that you were ready to see and feel something special in this, you were open to this experience ... even in ordinary things we can get something special, or .... as it happens, we can have a supernatural experience and not feel anything...

As a woman travelling alone, I personally felt safest with a top bunk, because you're somewhat removed from people passing by and nobody can really approach you if you don't want them to. (Although 99% of all the time i ever spent on the trains was great, I did have one mildly negative experience on a sparsely populated train, when I tried to sleep on a bottom bunk. A man who had been drinking quite a lot found me and sat on my bed, and began stroking my back and whispering to me. I stayed as still as a statue and pretended to be asleep until he gave up and left, and then i was able to find the conductor and arrange to move to a top bunk for the rest of the trip.) Still, in general, i felt very safe there traveling solo, especially in 3rd class (platzkartny). If you're alone and you book a 2nd class (kupe) cabin, you can feel somewhat isolated in a small room with up to 3 strangers, and you just have to hope they are respectful and that you will feel comfortable alone with them. On the other hand, in the wide open 3rd class, you always know that there are lots of people around you at all hours and you can always ask someone for help or move elsewhere if anybody makes you feel uncomfortable.

I can tell you what to go in a third-class with teenagers who go to the camp Nothing is more spiritual in this life... It's necessary songs for guitar, laugh and unforgettable experience and emotions. When I saw a frame with that rural school, I remembered how I drove past this place and looked at the same school. Strange, untransmitted but pleasent sensations. Thank you for this, Gareth)

13:18 "High Tech Mechanical Check" You are vainly ironize. The railroad worker hits with a hammer not random points , and detects a malfunction by sound.
This brought back memories of taking the train in 2nd class from Kiev to Kherson and then later Kherson to Simferopol in 1997. But it today's Russian trains are so much nicer than Ukrainian trains back then! But the same buying from vendors on the way applied, the risk was if you don't speak the language you don't know what you are buying and there was no guaranty that the water bottles weren't being reused and filled up at home or that the food was safe to eat (lost out on both of those and ended up being sick for over a month). More recently in 2012 my wife and I went from St Petersburg to Moscow on the famous Red Arrow train in 1st class and it was so much nicer. My wife speaks Russian so that helped a ton as well. I don't know if I'd want to do the full trans-Siberian experience but going as far as Ekaterinburg might be interesting as my wife has made that journey many times.

I think if you are young and athletic that is an awesome adventure. I suggested the train to my uncle and in the first stop he got off and forfeited his ticket. He was old (in his 40s) and the train trip was more than he could handle. It just did not agree with his idea of vacation. I took that train trip a few years back. The food and bathrooms were rough. It shouldn’t be our only source of information. Politics does not reflect the people of a nation, or the culture of a nation. Unfortunately some people forget this.

Precise. Informative. Deep. Awesome! Thanx mate!
Только досмотрел другие серии и вышла новая 😁👍
this is a very positive video.

I stayed as still as a statue and pretended to be asleep until he gave up and left, and then i was able to find the conductor and arrange to move to a top bunk for the rest of the trip.)
Still, in general, i felt very safe there traveling solo, especially in 3rd class (platzkartny).

Thanks Alexander - after a month, I think we learned some good tactics! 😂
I don't know if I'd want to do the full trans-Siberian experience but going as far as Ekaterinburg might be interesting as my wife has made that journey many times.

пиццу и дома поесть можно. а вот пирожки с перрона должны быть куплены обязательно;)
