I am born and raised in Canada with English heritage. Roast-beef, Yorkshire Pudding and thick gravy every Sunday, yet not versed in everything 'old world'. Later, while work-travelling around England in the 90s, I was passing through a small town (by bicycle) and stopped at a street corner to ask an elder home-owner for a glass of water. She proceeded to invite me in for the water, some toast and to talk. After drinking half a glass of iced-water, I thanked her for the toast she offered and took a bite. Mein Gott! did she spread IODINE on the bread? No - it was Marmite... The kind old Lady laughed at the face I was making while I apologized for saying the Marmite tasted worse than medicine to me. We talked about Marmite, Peanut Butter, Cultural differences and changing times. She asked me where I had been and where I was going. Having just left Cambridge and heading south towards London, I had no clue where I was headed, but England was mine for the taking. I ended up in Bournemouth for over a year's worth of Life Experience only Travelling can teach... Eli, come to Canada. Respect :)

Such a natural, likeable, sincere, and accomplished young lady. You're an example of how humankind should interact with each other. Gold star for you, Eli.
In the end, the quality of a UA-cam channel depends on the depth of character, personality, intelligence, and values of its creator. There is no doubt in my mind that "Eli From Russia" is a winner by any measure, because of who Eli is. This is one of my favorite channels.
Nobody ever said such words to me, thank you so much 🥹🙏🏻 I am so glad to hear this and I hope to bring more value with my channel with every future video
@ElifromRussia I totally agree with the above comment. I understand your moment, after making your dreams come true, but, to me, you should keep on doing the excellent job you're doing with your YT channel... at least, I hope you'll do! 😊

This was fascinating definitely not boring. I'm looking forward to seeing the different cultures of the Urals. Russia is such a vast place so many different cultures that most of us never get to know about.
Dear Eli My wive and I would have loved to explore Russia. Sadly it looks like we might not achieve this during our lifetime. All the more it is important to keep the outside world informed about the good Russia of honest, hard working people, trying to make it work for their families. You have a very special talent to tell such stories and we enjoy your posts very much. It might not seem very important to you, but you are an ambassador of goodwil for the Russian people abroad. Thank you for your great work, take care and keep up your positive spirit! All the best- Laura & Michael
It is always lovely to see your adventures Eli no matter the destination your perspective and insights are wholesome and informative. Thank you for being true to yourself and expressing what's dear to you, bless you much love.
Your videos help people understand the biggest country in the world, so much of which is off any tourist trail. i particularly like hearing people speaking Russian with the translation sub-titled - much better than overdubbing.
I love the children! ❤️💙They’re both sooooo cute. Your niece is so red bless her. They both have beautiful smiles. Watching this has cheered me up no end. Thank you so much for sharing Eli. Thank you so much for continuing to show that every day Russian people and Russian life is just like everywhere else.
@fermatichebellosei1595 I recommend watching the UA-cam channel of one large Australian family who moved to Russia in the Altai. Ask yourself why more and more English-speaking people are moving to Russia, and not vice versa. And over time, this trend will only grow.
You have half a million subscribers, so definitely you have done something right in the past. Love your sharing of Russia people, culture on the ground. I have been to Russia on tour about 10 years ago. Will like to do it again sometime in the future. Helped to debunk a lot of western media stereoptypes on Russia I had before that. Keep up your work, which is a great contribution to people understanding different civilizations
Eli, heartfelt congratulations on all that you've achieved and everywhere that you've travelled to. This video didn't come across as boring or depressing in any way. We all find ourselves a bit lost at times and usually, IME, the answer of what choice to make or what to do next presents itself, if you have an open mind. Well done you for vocalising what you were struggling with and for asking for help. Having over half a million subscribers is amazing and it shows that your content is valuable to many, many people. I grew up during the Cold War and films like Threads, which showed the aftermath of nuclear war in the UK cast a shadow over our formative years. For all of my life, the USSR and now the CIS and particularly Russia has been depicted as the enemy and the source of what was bad in the world because of the many proxy wars fought between East and West. I'm in the UK (currently) and we know that there are many sides to Russia and not just the extremes that we see in the media. I've watched a few UA-cam channels, presented by Russians, about Russia and I believe that yours is the best by far. As a viewer, I never know what to expect, so everything is a surprise, extremely well presented and offers a window into ordinary Russian society and the Russian people, that we would otherwise never see. My sense is that you seek to show the subject of your vlogs as they are. Without bias nor embellishment and you achieve this brilliantly. What you show perfectly is that we humans are all pretty much the same, the world over. We have the same hopes and fears. The same challenges as we progress through life. The same dreams for ourselves and the generations that follow us. One of the things that depresses me most. Is the incalculable waste of resources, lives and time that have gone into conflict between nations. What you do, helps to lessen the risk of future conflict between your country and mine. Hopefully your influence will extend to current and future politicians and help them find a better way to conduct politics. Instead of politics as usual. Happy trails :)
not all dreams are the same, I have the dream of quitting smoking, but I like to smoke, so at present I don't have any plans to quit smoking, which makes my dream invisible. I doubt there is anyone in the world who feels that way. 🤭🤭🤭 Just kidding, your vision shows how much of the world you've already seen and I'm glad you shared it with us.
Mike, your posting is so lovely and so well spoken. And a special thanks for mentioning Threads, which should be obligatory viewing for many of our current politicians today.
Your videos give me hope! I am from the United States. I am so worried about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia & about the possibility of other countries fighting. I see your beautiful land and people in your videos and want to learn more about Russian culture. I want all countries to be at peace with one another, so our children can grow happy & free & have the best chance at life! We are all people, no matter where we live. We all need & want the same things. Praying for the world - for Russia, Ukraine, America, Australia, China…for every soul! Thanks Eli from Russia! Love from America! 💕🙏🏼😇 P.S. I would be afraid to go to the sinking city!
@@frontgrad I agree with you totally, the US elites are to blame, but it is still a cruel comment, because this human just wants peace for everybody. Everybody means everybody. Please note that not everybody in the west is so ignorant as not to understand what lead to this conflict and who is actually to blame for it. We, the ordinary people, ALL want to live in peace and mind our own business, and I am sure that we are capable of living in peace together. But as long as there are so many brainwashed helpers for the almighty evil creatures on this earth we will not get our peace.
no matter what- you do such an great job, bringing us russia and more places closer- im so happy to have found you here on youtube !!! you are brave and courious ! and it's sometimes even good to be without a plan- don't stress yourself please !
You are really blessed to be able to travel around and visit many places. You have a very interesting life. I bet those children love it when you come to town. They are beautiful kids.
Given the fact that Russia is so gigantic, I´d say just keep exploring the country. I´ve heard there are some really bizzare, scary, unexplainable places, buildings, mountains etc. If I lived in Russia, I guess I´d travel non-stop 🙂
I lived in Berezniki for 6 years and I really didn’t feel danger there. You just live your life. There are a lot of unique and smart people there, and I like them very much. However, I felt the same, Eli. Maybe because of this feeling I left the city. Sometimes I come back to visit my family. And, unfortunately, over the years the city becomes sadly.
Eli - once again thanks for this wonderful content. I’m sorry that you seem to have lost your way. There was a time I felt down as I had lost my best friend - so I felt I needed to find a way - I decided to walk the Camino in northern Spain. It’s a pilgrimage route from France through basque region. I met people from all over the world as I walked each day. It helped me a lot.
Great suggestion! I walked the Camino de Santiago for 12 days departing from Porto, in Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela (Central Portuguese Route). An amazing and unforgettable journey!
Best wishes to you, Eli! Many people experience the same feelings as you. I believe you are a good person and will land on your feet whatever you decide to do! I like Russia and feel sad that so many people are anti-Russian now due to current events. If I have the chance, I hope to visit Russia someday. Take care, Eli!
I’ve never been to Russia and have always wanted to visit, but I refuse to while Putin is in charge (I’m American-he might have me arrested just to extract some kind of concession)…or while the Russian military is in Ukraine. My Great-Grandparents were from Ukraine, and I can’t dishonor their memory that way. But I’m in my early 40s. I’ll outlive Putin. And perhaps the next Russian leader won’t be a paranoid a**hole.
In Serbia we call " mother Russia". Not everyone but a whole lot of people do. I guess people are dynamic and in constant motion, as verything else. The time will come when you will end you travels, and settle down. It will just happend. Its up to you, of course , to find few very good reasons to stay " grounded " , and keep youself busy.
Wow, how ignorant must you be to feel sad we are ANTI-RUSSIANS. We are also ANTI-HITLER, ANTI-NAZIGERMAN, ANTI-everything-that is ANTI-HUMAN. But as you are now so PRO-RUSSIA; why not go NOW and visit the great great country of freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of travel, prosperity and wealth. Oh wait, this incredible country just started a global war agains humanity. How stupid of me.
I love this channel, it shows me about a country I have never been to but heard so much about. It is lovely to see and hear about all of the people and cultures within Russia. I would love to hear more about this big and beautiful country. You have friends here - we are always here for you to chat to. Thanks for sharing Eli x
"A step forward is a step in the right direction". You've obviously taken the next step. I'm glad you share your travels. You've stepped where I have only dreamed. Take care.
Definitely I would like to visit Berezniki! It is the most "extreme" places that make travel worth it. For sure Eli you are the #1 UA-camr! Your videos are so well filmed and edited plus of course the content is the most interesting!
Just happened to be talking to a university researcher researching underground anamolies like sink holes or voids. Causes of such geological events could be acidic water dissolving limestone materials. So in this case likely the waste water from mining was acidic and or the waste stream was not treated by the soda -Alkaline) to neutralise the acid. When neutralised it formed the white precipitate (salt) -hence that white lake....Can also be caused ground water flow too. In permafrost areas, Hydrates dissociating because rising temperature can cause the hydrates to break down and release methane into the atmosphere and leave a huge hole in the ground.
A short Google search revealed that the potash mines were never filled back in after the mines closed. Ground water filtered down and eroded the supporting mine roofs (made of soluble salt) and they collapsed. There is nothing that can be done now except monitor the sink rate and keep people away. They don't want you to film because this is a man-made, slow motion disaster caused by greedy mine owners and the government.
Fascinating video Eli. Thanks for the tour of Perm. It is great that you have followed and achieved your dreams. Let that give you the confidence to dream more dreams and achieve them. I love your videos of places that show the different landscapes and cultures in Russia and I also love your observations on other countries. Please keep doing what you are doing

❤Eli! Such a great story teller and videographer! Thanks for the addendum, which brought tears to my eyes.🥲 I am so much looking forward to more videos of interesting places in Russia. 🇷🇺👏
The town Berezniki is a place that stucked in the past but still have its own natural beauty. It is good to be back with family and to draw inward and reflect on the past journey. Reflecting on your past will help you to move forward. Both of your niece and nephew are so cute. Literally we’re watching them growing up. I wonder how Zlatoust city in the Ural region looks like? It is a birthplace of legendary Anatoly Karpov my favourite grandmaster. He is recovering from head injury so I heard. For your next video, if you happen to visit Caucasus region again, we would love to see you dancing wearing traditional costume with the folks. I’m sure there will be a suitor from Caucasus region asking you to dance with him in a traditional way. You can make a compilation of videos of you dancing in every region of Russia with different set of costumes according to each region tradition.
Eli, fantastic video and audio work! The stories and information you present is wonderful and very professional done! It is very entertaining at the same time. I love your UA-cam channel.
Not boring at all. You are doing fine and take it day by day. So often we worry about the future when the here and now is what is really important 🥰 I'm sure your family is happy to see you and it will all work out. Things always do.
It's so interesting to learn about Russia's culture, history, architecture and everything else. I have never been to Russia. I would like to visit it and also Perm. Maybe one day. The Urals are another great destination. We love your videos very much and this one was really great. Thank you very much Eli.
You are the coolest aunty. You were so focussed and into your Australia trip so you kinda fell into a dark hole (hahaha...) after. It's a very poetic situation actually. You are so interested in the world. Your imagination will lead you to new places. And i'm super interested in watching the videos about the Urals. It has many beautiful sights. Like Yugyd Va National Park. No idea if it would be interesting for a vid, besides the amazing scenery. Or how you would get there even. It's very wild)) You could take us to the most boring place, i will still like it. It's new and mysterious.
No need to worry. Your videos have been great. Your children are stunning. I even like your video about the holes. I am a long time fan of Russia, and Russian culture. The first novel I read as a teenager was "Dr. Zhivago". From then on I patterned my life after this hero.
please explore more of Russia it's an interesting and beautiful country, which I will not experience in-person to visit in my lifetime, you are the only connection of world geography to me. Thank you from the island of the Philippines! the logo is Mayon Volcano!
I agree .with so much to see so close to home in a country as huge as Russia.. I follow quite a few UA-cam travelers like Eli's channel, getting to travel where i know i will never have the chance to go, and spend that time with a wonderful person like Eli showing me the sights. I hope Eli goes to Gornaya Shoria in the Ural of Russia mountains, Such fantastic rock & mountain formations and ancient history. I love the Philippines too, though i never been there, Both My daughters had filipino boyfriends when they were young, And back then i actually owned a colorful 1960's Sarao Jeepney taxi -wagon that somebody brought to the US. and i still have a Tuk -Tuk taxi- sidecar for a motorcycle with a painting of Mayon Volcano on front with beautiful colors & art work on it, just like the Jeepney had.. I am 70 years old and live in Near Death Valley California. My traveling days are long gone but i am happy i learned to use a computer and still can travel to special places. Check out Peter Santenello's You-Tube travel channel, it's a great travel vlog too.
Well, first of all, I bet it was an absolute honour for Australia to have you here as long as you were here. And I'm sure Australia would be even more honoured to have you back. And, second of all, I am so so very sorry to hear of the most horrible news in regards to Russia and Ukraine. I really really wish for the most beautiful and peaceful skies in your part of the world. Ukraine ESPECIALLY. All in all, people like you are always very special and important people. People who have really travelled the world and who have really learnt so so many different cultures, religions, passions, artworks, da da da and bla bla bla and so on. And most importantly, people with good and pure hearts. I myself am an Australian born and raised in Sydney, and have never even left Australia. But thanks to people like you I have sure learnt a lot about the rest of the world beyond our shores. Which ever path you choose to take, we wish you all the very VERY best in your new adventures. My favorite parts of you videos are learning about food and interesting historical facts I never knew about. Like in this video: I never heard about the sinking city near Perm. It may be a bit depressing, but it's very interesting.
Greetings from the Permian Basin of the United States - named because of the petroleum minerals found in the permian geological formation, including potash. Until your video, I had absolutely no idea that its name came from Perm, Russia. Thank you for teaching me something about my own neighborhood by talking about a place completely on the other side of the world.

Honestly keep doing what you are doing! Show us more about Russia. I feel so conflicted when I watch your videos because all we hear in US is negative about Russia and it’s people. But it is nice to get to know and learn about your country all the different cultures and communities within Russia! Show us nature too do you have national Forrest’s or protected lands ? Please teach us more and definitely share the video about the mansion that you mention I think bc you are from there you may underestimate how interesting your home city can be! I would love to learn more. Thank you for these wonderful videos.
Yes there are nice sceneries and friendly people in Russia. Still the facts do not change, Russia has started a war in Europe. Russia has always been and always will be an existential threat to all its smaller neighbors.
I just posted a familiar comment as yours, without seeing yours. I feel the same exact way. USA, specifically MSM and Social Media has painted a horrible image of Russia and it's People. Millions started putting the Ukraine flag emoji on their Social Media accounts. Look how quick the masses get sucked in. ~ Have a nice day & thank you for your post.
@@liepalind616 you sound racist. 🇷🇺🏞️ Looking forward to your hometown travels (the Urals) as well as the collaborations in "undisclosed" locations 😅. You are a talented storyteller and videographer.
You make great and interesting videos. I live in Floyd, Virginia of the USA. I learn so much from your travels. You continue to create great content. God bless you!
Very honest video! Great to see you are back in 🇷🇺 . Perhaps what viewers want to see in next sets of Urals-centric videos is perhaps something on the very tragic Dyatlov Pass Incident. It is still not solved. Many theories though, and as decades go by the incident gets more and more mysterious.
Dyatlov incident, right. I’ve forgotten about it. I remember learning about the incident in some yt channel about paranormal stuff and mysteries. Heard it was an avalanche what killed the hikers.
It most probably was a snowslide-avalanchelet. The Tunguska meteor was probably a big piece of iron that passed very near Earth slightly into the atmosphere and barely missed hitting anything, with big shock waves through the atmosphere knocking down all those trees.
@@ARIF74 I don't know if you know Russian, but there are many Russian scientific documentaries on UA-cam about the Dyatlov Pass disaster. In short: Soviet scientists and investigators involved in the Dyatlov Pass case came to the categorical conclusion that it was not an avalanche. Many other versions were also rejected due to many inconsistencies. In general, the tragedy at the Dyatlov Pass remains one of the most mysterious events in recent history, and it has not yet been solved.
Thank you for this beautiful video. I 've been there. My mother in law lives in Berezniki. I liked it so much that i wanna go again. The only drawback is the low temperatures. What great journalism. Certainly not fully in line with what the authorities want talked about, but as far as I'm concerned, your journalism absolutely improves the understanding and empathy and friendly relations with people around the world.
This video was not depressing .Interesting that the lady that lived a 1000 lifetimes of adventure and travel is saying she doesn't know what to do with her life.. Most of us cant even hope to do 10% of what you have done.(now that is depressing). As an American I love to see the real Russia and not what the media wants us to think Russia is .. Keep doing what you're doing. You are very lucky to have the opportunity to live a life as you do
Eli, I want to see anything you want to explore and share. Your nephew and niece are such adorable kids. I am getting ready to buy rural property (somewhere) to raise my own food. After many years of research I have invented/discovered a new kind of really nutritious agriculture -- it is an order of magnitude better than organic. One of my most important criteria is to not be in a sink hole area. I am even thinking about immigrating to Russia. I would love to do that so much. You have inspired me to have the courage to boldly think about doing this.
I love the videos young Eli. I am old and for my generation Russia was a lost land. Keep making these videos for as long as you have youth and energy on your side. It opens up a world people like me can know nothing about otherwise. In Cheshire, in England many of the old salt mines have collapsed and the resultant lakes, known locally as flashes, have naturalised over the years and become beautiful features in the landscape.
Hi. I've been following your channel for a while. I absolutely love your work, i love your kind and optimistic character. Your filming has improved so much recently, watching your videos feels like I'm watching VICE magazine news documentary. That's how sophisticated and high quality it looks/feels. I hope you see this comment, I'm very happy for your journey. If you ever think of traveling to Canada (British Columbia) make sure to make an announcement, I would love to help you in any way to discover this beautiful place. Lots of support and love!!

Thank you Eli for your fascinating travelogue. What to do next?? Please show more of Russia, my favorite country.I am sure there is more to Russia than meets the eye! BTW, Winston Churchill defined Russia as "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. "

@fermatichebellosei1595 I recommend watching the UA-cam channel of one large Australian family who moved to Russia in the Altai. Ask yourself why more and more English-speaking people are moving to Russia, and not vice versa. And over time, this trend will only grow.
Spassiba for this amazingly interesting work and reporting. I have never heard about this problem.
What propoganda? That Russia didn't start the war?
You're wonderful Miss Eli🌟 Florida also has sinkholes.
I love when you share the unique features and people of your vast country.
As a viewer,
I never know what to expect, so everything is a surprise, extremely well presented and offers a window into ordinary Russian society and the Russian people, that we would otherwise never see.

I’ve never been to Russia and have always wanted to visit, but I refuse to while Putin is in charge (I’m American-he might have me arrested just to extract some kind of concession)…or while the Russian military is in Ukraine.

@@ARIF74 the version of the avalanche has long been refuted, everything is much more complicated there.
@@Siberian_Crown what you mean "more complicated there"? Now I'm curious.
@@ARIF74 I don't know if you know Russian, but there are many Russian scientific documentaries on UA-cam about the Dyatlov Pass disaster. Not depressing Eli, absolutely facinating, thankyou for showing us.

I'm glad to see a new video about Russia, I missed it :p Can't wait to watch your adventure in the Urals, my wife is from Ijevsk and we often travel there from Moscow + I really love this area in Russia just at the frontline of Europe and Asia. All the best ;)
GLAD to see you back in Russia! Your next plans for the summer sound wonderful. I'll be with you. Don't worry about being momentarily stuck with no "grand plans." One step forward is fine for now.
What great journalism. Certainly not fully in line with what the authorities want talked about, but as far as I'm concerned, your journalism absolutely improves the understanding and empathy and friendly relations with people around the world.
She propagate russian nazi ....please report her
Keep posting. I love your posts. Ken from Oregon USA
Just too cute, genuine, and informative. Great videos.
You are very lucky to have the opportunity to live a life as you do
What exactly do you think Russia represents these days? Are you hiding under a rock?
Outside of certain parts of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Soviet architecture and buildings are depressingly ugly.
Thank you for a well made video as well as the educational aspect of your wondeful backyard.
Love your videos and congrats on accomplishing your life goals! I know what that feels like and it is a really strange time in life. All I can say is, enjoy the break - other goals will naturally emerge over time :)
Thank you Eli for your fascinating travelogue. What to do next??
Please show more of Russia, my favorite country.I am sure there is more to Russia than meets the eye!
BTW, Winston Churchill defined Russia as "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. "
Eli, I am a retired US Navy russian language specialist, who enjoys watching your videos showing the many wonderful adventures through the various countries to which you have traveled. After watching this particular video, I would advise you to continue exploring the world and its infinite beauty and endless cultures and people. You are young, and therefore are just starting out on what I am sure will be a long and very fulfilling "hike" on life's journey. Enjoy yourself, and take in all that the world affords you. Peace.
what would us navy have thought if ru had a naval base in mexico or on cuba?
