i love how in this race there is just a good amount of time where its just racing just raw racing nothing else no character interdiction nuthin just racing. And i love that this is why its one of if not my favorite races in the anime

i find what wataru said in the beginning interesting. he has a small, lightweight, and nimble 280hp car that's looks decent. at first to me it sounds like he likes to win with the low tier, but it's sounding more like either he enjoys trolling with a sleeper or he's downplaying his car.
This might be a controversial opinion, but id say initial d peaked in stage 2, the intense races, the story, even the look/design of the anime is peak for me. And this race cements it for me. This is easily the best race in initial d in my humble opinion.
i have always thought that this was the best race in all of initial d, any of the 86 vs 86 races are, just a true test of skill, two god tier drivers on old shitboxes.
Laughs in Porsche 911, Lancia Stratos, Renault R5, Lancia 037, other amazing RWD rally cars… Oh and let’s not forget the AE86 rally cars that drove on dirt all the time!
RWD is perfectly capable of driving on dirt, and given the tire technology of the early to mid 90s I highly doubt they were on racing tires or slicks of any sort for a street race, so Takumi being a good probably wouldn’t have much issue controlling his car on dirt for a short period of time.
There are a few things I would like to point out 1. Most of the mud was already pushed out of the way in the earlier rounds 2. Takumi is a top tier driver 3. As an earlier comment pointed out, Takumi regularly drives on snow in the winter, so a little mud wouldn’t hurt 4. If this was more realistic (aka corners aren’t 1 mile long for dramatic takeovers, like this race for example) he would mostly be on for a few seconds 5. The AE86 is also a great rally car and overall race car (they go more into detail about this in the Fifth Stage)
@@tougedriftman492 When he delivered the tofu in akina he went uphill then downhill back home. But if you meant that this is his first time on a mountain pass with both uphill and downhill at the same time, then yes.
@@gonza2504also when he battled Kenta on myogi downhill in the rain. The myogi downhill has a uphill at the start but rest is downhill. So I don’t know if you would count that has a uphill and downhill race
It’s honestly not a bad dub, the script is cringey as fuck regardless of what language it’s in (albeit in an endearing way). And the English VAs are actually not all that bad…
@@griffins750I think it’s a solid dub but if you ever get to chance to watch it dubbed with the Japanese subtitles you’ll notice how subtle changes to what the characters say really affects how you view them. Itsuki is less annoying dubbed though.
@@toasterbath2069 I’ve watched both, and I agree but compared to alot of other dubs it’s surprisingly well done which is why I appreciate it so much, it has no right to be as good as it is considering the shit show that was the original dub when it first came to the US in the early-mid 2000s (if you know what I’m talking about then props if not I think Donut media made a video about Initial D awhile ago where they explained how/why it was such a shit show at first).
