PLEASE READ (written June 4th) - I have a song coming out tonight about breaking gender binary stereotypes and ending toxic masculinity. I tried to push my release to later in #PrideMonth to focus solely on Black Lives Matter now but unfortunately was not able to. Indie artists don't get such luxuries. I did however ask for the magazine article featuring the release to be canceled to give more space to queer black musicians. Anyway, since I literally cannot cancel the release I will be donating the proceeds to blacklivesmatter.com from stream revenues for the month of June and July. I also created this playlist on Spotify to amplify voices and songs that need to be heard. I find these songs to either educate, bring empathy, or empower. I hope they do the same for you. The playlist link is in my story. This song coming out is really important to me and I have been playing it live for years. I am glad it's coming out into the world but am sorry the timing doesn't feel appropriate. Anyway, I guess not being able to cancel it is meant to be and I really hope that the song helps someone out there. I will also donate revenue from my t-shirt sales to Black Lives Matter and to the Emergency Relief Fund that helps keep trans people safe out of jail. I hope everyone understands. Thank you. For anyone that can't donate, there are plenty of video on UA-cam, one by Zoe Amira, titled "watch this if you cant donate to black lives matter " as well as similar titles. All you need to do is watch the video, without skipping ads, and all profit will be given to BLM organisations

As a non-binary person I can relate
my mom found out i was non-binary and she said i was just confused. So she thought by telling me that i should be cisgender it would change my gender identity and i would become cisgender again. She doesn't know that it's not a choice to not cisgender. I couldn't help but not feeling like a women or a man. She even thought telling me would make me straight again now I pretend to be straight and cisgender when i'm home I have to be called by my dead pronounce. I'm proud of my sexuality and my gender identity. And i don't hate straight people or cisgender people. I just hate pretending to be straight and cisgender. I enjoy listening to this music. all my family members think im straight and cisgender except for my brothers and my uncles and yes they are ok with it

The gender binary
Firstly: binary (the word) means one or the other for example computer binary 1 or 0
So the gender binary basically is male or female
But remember it’s fine to be outside the gender binary and it’s toxic stereotypes and opinions

In my understanding it's the idea that there are only two genders. And that the only valid way to be trans is to be of the other gender. This worldview, that a lot of binary trans people have unfortunately, is oppressive towards nonbinary people and sometimes even to some binary trans people whose way of presenting doesn't totally fit the societal norms of their gender.

@@TearMyWorldFANTAGE then I encourage you to do more research because the gender binary is a very western idea that does not correlate with the real human experience. Non-binary people exist. Agender people exist. Two-spirit people exist. These are all terms you can google for a better understanding of how different folks experience gender in their life. Hope this helps.
