“so what do you do again?”
“I’m a pie decorator”
Decorate this, you wanker.
“I’ve heard weirder things than that. What pies do you decorate?”
“Pork pies.”
“... I’ve never heard weirder things than that.”
Im doing the pinch game me
GO ON THEN, WALK FOREVER, PORK PIE!
"Now excuse me while I eat all the pies."
Me too, British How It's Made guy.
Someone who's English is not British. They're not synonymous. 🙄
I definitely appreciate a well made pork pie every once in a while. It's great to see that there are companies still making them by hand so you know that a lot of effort and love has been put in to making them. It's something that's becoming rare but is still appreciated in my opinion
You should always try to get them from a butcher, they are sublime when made properly
I like how Tony Hirst is enthralled in this segment. He genuinely seems to enjoy narrating this one because it's something he loves. It's very nice.
if tony hirst was a wrestler, his catchphrase would be "nice"
If we had those in the United States, I'd probably be eating the hell out of them. I recon these make a good working man's meal at lunch, since they're typically not heated.
Yep. Picnic, work, all sorts of goodness
In NYC there's an excellent British food place called Meyer's of Keswick. It's so delicious.
That is actually the origin of pies like this, a easily transportable meal for farmers or travellers.
I've made homemade pork pies, and I gotta tell you, they are absolutely great with coleslaw and fries. (Also, they go well with Branston pickle.)
I dunno, room temp meat doesn't sound appealing to me. Though I've never had one so who knows?
I need one of these, NOW!
No you don't need that
@@minetlav5110 why
It's gotta be the biggest oversight in our solar system that we can't find these in the US.
😕
not gonna lie though....American's and pie don't go well together unless it's pot pie or pumpkin pie
@@LeClaw um..apple pie...u know nothing
There's actually quite a few places that sell VERSIONS of these. Obviously won't be UK's meat pies, but it's done very similarly.
I can't stop watching these videos.
One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I need one now!
When I return to visit family in the U.K. this is high on the “things that I must have on the menu” while home. I especially like them with a dash of Branston pickle and a nice salad.
A dash? With a spot of tea?
Normal people, me included: Now I'm hungry
Also me: haha 'trotters'
I have no idea what you’re saying
Superrr wow.... Ill try this at home..... Love ittttt
They’d be in my lunch box for sure!
I wish we had these here
Great video
I've never had one of these but I'm willing to try them.
I am a born Australian citizen and I absolutely loved pork pies 🥧 are absolutely very very beautiful food from England 🇬🇧 when I first ever time trying pork pies I have fallen in love with them i don't even put any dead horse aka tomato sauce on the pork pies at all times just one of them altogether people have to eat them as their own
Heard my Cardiologist screaming
I'm on my third Cardiologist, the first two died younger than I am and I'm only 65.
Why does he she want a pork pie?
@@johnparrish9215 John Parrish aka Keef Richerds lol! I just went 60 hope I am like Keef!
@@hannible1002 It probably tastes very good.
I love this video.
Great video guys
I'm not a fan of the jelly inside unless its bought when still warm and the jelly hasn't set. A lot of manufacturers realise a lot of people arent keen on the jelly so they reduce the amount they put in.
Same as 🤘💯😎
y
Heresy.
Run it through a microwave for 30 seconds. Turns it back into broth
@@davidc4983 Heathen.
Amazing m luving it.
I’ve never had these things, but now I want one
My favourite pork pie is still warm. They're also nice cold, but they're a different dish, to eat with salad or something. But if eating it as a dinner, with potatoes etc... it has to be warmed. I think it can be warmed and eaten with self-respect intact.
I'm Drooling Right Now
I love Melton Mowbray pies, they're the best!! 😋
The video is well done and explains the individual steps of the production in a comprehensible way. 👍
I was completely unaware of the pork pie. The video made me very hungry. 🍽
“Sprinkle with flour”
MAN GOES TO FIND A BUCKET
Ever since I was 6 I had my first pork pie, it was love at first taste 😂
Wow that looks very tasty
Perfection
This is the most beautiful UA-cam video
These sound and look so tasty. I would love to try one, or two.
Need some peppers and cabbage in the mix 😈😈😈
Or 30

I'm in Australia I've never tried one but I always see pork pies at the deli gonna have to grab one someday!
Oh, is that why some recipes call for hot water? I never knew why, just followed the instructions. Thanks for the info! I love 'How It's Made'
Looks good
Was munching a big pork pie whilst watching this , can’t beat them.
Too bad that in my Country don't sell this Pork - Pies They look Delicious Nice British Accent BTW
Beautiful with English mustard too.
what's wrong with american mustard? is it not yellow enough?
i've had melton mowbray pork pie before.. my favourite part is the pastry
My local rugby club has them delivered still warm from Percy Turner's (the world finest pork pie maker) of jump. Eaten still warm they are a delight.
my mouths watering yummy
Great video featuring smaller scale manufactured pies, no doubt from the proper 'Melton Mobray' designated area.
If anyone wonders who makes the best large scale produced pork pie, then 'Pork Farms' is the first name that springs to mind.
Unlike some supermarket-bought pies, theirs contain no colouring added to the meat, so it looks grey instead of an artificial pink.
Love pork farm pork pies
I actually want one right now.
Is there something like an amazon but for food that can send out foods like this? God that would be amazing
I want one!!!!!!
This is by far the most British How It’s Made I’ve ever seen
There is a food truck here in Albuquerque, NM, USA that specializes in these!!
There is a place in the town I live in that does their own porkpies and they are almost always sold out of them but every so often if I’m lucky I get too order some before hand.
That pie decorator definitely had the hardest job😂
Wish they made pork pie in the U.S. and my state, they look so good
Hot pork pie and mushy peas is a popular dish in Yorkshire. I turned up my nose, until I actually tried it. Delicious.
See I'm in Australia we eat pies warm I would want to heat it up first lol
Some Coles supermarkets in Australia have recently started selling these in their deli section's self serve area. The only other places that I know of where you could purchase them from are British and Irish butchers who own and operate their own business.
oh wow
How does it taste like for an Australian?
I’m gonna try and make this for Christmas this year. One of advantages of living in a big city is that they still have butcher shops.
Butcher shops aren't really a big city thing. If anything they're more common in small towns and villages.
@@burntbacn surprisingly I was actually able to find most of the ingredients in Baltimore. I just wasn’t able to make them because I got sick
Now excuse me.. while I eat all the " pies"..LOL... thanks for sharing..!!
I used to hate pork pies. Then I had a nice one and I'm now obsessed.
I want one so bad
Definitely asking for my friend to send one of these to me when shipping speeds up.
This video just made me go out and get a pork pie 🤣
Looks like a head cheese pie or something. Kinda want one.
I haven't tried that one yet. But... It's SOO DELICIOUS!!
Ive never had pot pies but in Asia, we have a dessert delicacy called “Hopia” and it’s very much like this but bite size and made from Pork Fat and Kelly. it’s sweet and not savory at all
This seems like something we would love in America. Why dont we have them?
I'm a 50 year old brit with a 50 year old brit wife. Only when he said we never eat them warm did we realise that's true. Never once had I ever thought of heating them but wasn't aware of it!
Perhaps you were eating them at halftime in the match?
Seems like something that’s better warm
The hot dog video cured my hunger, but now it's back with a venegance.
And I sadly don't have any of these in the fridge.
I'm a brit and I tried my first warmed pork pie 3 weeks ago.... you guys need to try it! Its amazing
I wonder if I can get these imported
Mrs. Lovett would be so proud 🥹
Or In stores
That looks really good I have to try it with the wild hogs that we kill here in Texas Jungle!
this would be great with pulled pork and BBQ sauce
global homo mmm I’ll try making it with wild hog!
I see they only use a small amount of lard. Also RCB reference at the end.
Bloody lovely. I love the jelly but also love the ones with Branston in them. There was a shop in Ironbridge (opposite the bridge) that did a wonderful variety of pies. Hungry now
Big man gonna go eat 'all the Pies'
I live in Melton Mowbray. Can confirm this and cheese, thats all we have
What more do you need in life? 😝
They're very tasty for anyone wondering
Happy Hogswatch to one and all!
But late or really early....
@@louisasmiles I didn't trust myself to remember to come back to the video when it would have been more appropriate.
HO. HO. HO. LET’S SLEIGH THEM!
Those seem kinda like a pasty. Pie dough rolled out, stuffed with meat and potatoes or veggies, sealed shut, brushed with butter and baked. Pasties freeze well and can be rewarded when needed. Quite popular both in the Olds of mining and even now.
given that pasties are also a kind of meat pie, that's just to be expected.
Right when I realized it was the uk discovery I paused the video, commented this and immediately closed the video
Nuke a pork pie for a few minutes then chop into 4 and add to mushy peas. Stunning meal. Perfect for cold winter evenings.
PLEASE, how can i get one? Im in the states, we don't have these here.
Would try one in a second!
From England I can say these are good. You could probs find them somewhere I’m sure
The lard melts, not dissolves, the salt dissolves.
Incorrect. Lard consists of long-chain fatty acids that consist of a water soluble polar head. Lard dissolves in the same way that salt dissolves.
@@UA-camiscoolandgreat Water: the universal solvent.
@@UA-camiscoolandgreat Wrong. Read my first comment. Lard and soap are closely related.

He just called the pigs feet, trotters! And I'm dying!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
that's what we call it lol
He's right. That IS the correct term for them. ;)
It's our fucked u UK language
all I can think of while watching this is Walder Frey 😂
I'd like to pick thru the strained trotter meat.the whole process looked tasty.
🤣 at pigs trotters!
With a dab of Colman's...Mmmmmmmmm
Damn. I wish we had them here in the States. I wanna try them.
You got the recipe ...Go go go.
British delicacy is the best in the world
I'd like to try one but I don't believe any stores around here sell them.
