Not mentioned but something our dogs inexplicably love: broccoli! I was skeptical when a friend told me years ago that his American Eskimo went nuts for broccoli, but it was true. Both our Irish Setter and Miniature Poodle seem to like broccoli just as much as carrots!
Once, my little sister left a container of xylitol chewing gum and my Mini Aussie got in the counter and ate it all. We rushed her to the vet once we saw what she did and they told us she was minutes away from death when we took her. She stayed at an animal hospital overnight. Luckily she is healthy and with us today, but that was definitely a worrying two days.
I just read a bunch of comments. I enjoyed reading all the goodies your dogs eat. I have a schnauzer mix and she is the pickiest eater I've ever owned. The only human food she'll eat is cooked chicken and raw ground beef. I give her a tablespoon of meat in her dry food every once in awhile. The poodle/crocker mix I had to put down about a year ago would eat anything I ate. Lettuce, oranges, green beans, sauerkraut....if I was eating it he waited for some. But I guess his favorite thing was raw pumpkin. I miss him so darn much.
It’s good to cook some hamburger with rice and some shredded carrots or shredded broccoli or you could do that with turkey too but it’s good to drain the grease out get most of the grease out and don’t be adding salt if you do very very little as it’s cooking
I cook all of my dog's food out of human-grade ingredients. I find it is cheaper in the long run, and it also helps ease my mind in knowing what they are getting. I think it is much better for them than the stuff they put in cans and bags and label it dog food.
Our dogs get there food but we also cook them regular stuff all the time. Just about daily. Lately we’ve been buying chicken hearts for them as treats and they go crazy for them. More so than the chicken breast we make them or even different cuts of beef.
@@obthree2830 My dogs don't like white meat chicken very much. My dogs also love hearts and livers. I cut them up very small because I have very small dogs. I add vegetables, rice, and coconut oil to the meat. Then I bag them up (after cooked) in sandwich-size zip lock bags and freeze them till ready to use.
@@Mistyvalentine we have small ones as well. One weighs about 8 pounds another 15 and our biggest is 20. They also don’t care much for the white meat. We take dark meat like legs and thighs and boil them up and we take that broth and save it. Using the meat and the broth we pour it over white rice and give it to them. The hearts we usually cut them in half (3s if they’re bigger than usual) and we put them in a ziplock and that’s what we use for treats a lot of the time. Along with the fore mentioned bell peppers and carrots. In moderation we also give them tomatoes, apples, bananas, strawberries, and other fruits and veggies!
@@obthree2830 I do to and figure the added expense of food is much better than spending it at the vet. I was chuckling yesterday. My dogs are 35 and 12 pounds and I bought the 10th turkey since Thanksgiving yesterday. My "big" guy absolutely loves turkey and my little one will eat anything except pickles. I've been doing it so long it's become automatic. I prefer cooking for them because they're healthy and don't need to go to the vet.
When I was a kid I gave my chowchow a pork chop, he got diarrhea and we took him to the vet. The vet (Doc Thompson) just laughed and gave him some meds, said hes Jewish so can't eat pork. He was the kindest man and very loving to both people and animals, he had that little sense of humor too that relaxed everyone. He always got his message through with a softly spoken joke. Also had a vet once that was the sweetest person ever, but he always went "mmmmkay?" almost like Mr Mackey from South Park. Omg me and my mother, everyone else too had to struggle to not burst out laughing, he could fit in that mmmmmmkayy? In EVERY sentence, eventually we had to cut the visit short out of fear me might laugh and offend him, once in the car we would howl with laughter for probably 10 minutes before actually starting the car to go home. On our way home we would mention it and start laughing again. We loved this vet, he was so kind to everyone and what a great doctor to animals too, he just had a funny way of saying things is all. God bless such great lovers of animals. Ever notice, many become doctors of people for money and respect, almost all become doctors of animals for their love of them.
My sister is in the medical profession and she is definitely not in it for the money. Then again, she's an MA and proud former CNA. But yeah, animals are precious so how can a vet not love them?
For my dog's lunch we cook white rice with chicken liver or heart with chicken and a pinch of turmeric... I previously my mom said adding a pinch to a turmeric their food is a natural antibiotic that builds a dog's immunity... Is it ok??
@CL McCartney sure about that? A study done at Loyola Marymount University showed that urban coyote will eat almost anything. Even leaving fallen fruit on your yard could lead them to seeing it as a food source. They are actually destructive to watermelon fields.
I'm one of those pet parents that gets the "fancy" (not really) wet food for their dog. She quite enjoys the Cesar Homestyle meals. Honestly, her food looks better than mine most of the time. She does also get dry food (half wet, half dry) so as to not get spoiled on wet food. She also absolutely LOVES sauerkraut. I make sure to check if something is safe to feed to her beforehand, and sauerkraut is extremely healthy for dogs (in moderation), though many dogs don't like it. Whenever I make a meal with it, I make sure she gets a small plate. Same thing with brussel sprouts. Both my dog and myself like weird foods.
8:05 The very best food is raw from reputable sources. Our pups are descendants from wolves so the closer we replicate the natural food of dogs in the wild the healthier our pups will be. When wolves take down a deer, for instance, they will eat the organs first, then the muscles, bones, even fur as well as vegetation in the intestines. Larger dogs love frozen raw food, defrosted, room temperature. Little dogs often prefer dehydrated raw served with lots of spring water. A wolf would not eat any processed or cooked food. A natural whole food raw diet prevents obesity, osteoporosis, cancer and the inflammatory diseases we find in the human population. Respecting the species appropriate diet is the most loving thing we can do for our dogs living their best, longest lives. You'll find some excellent videos and information from Dr. Martin Goldstein, DVM as well as Dr. Karen Becker, DVM.
@@1voiceworks my dog loves raw meat as well as cooked meat. She prefers cooked meat, though, but goes crazy for blood. I kinda wonder though... Wolves in the wild would probably love hamburgers if they could get them. Just no onions or garlic.
Just a warning for everyone who feeds their dogs ice cubes: supervise them while they chew them, as they are a choking hazard. Also, be sure to feed them in moderation because ice can harm your dog's teeth.
Our animals won’t eat ice cubes. If one falls on the floor, or when we are done with our glass that had ice in it I usually put it in their water dish and let it melt and it’s an instant water refill when it melts
Sorry but I call bullshit. Just pay attention to your dog and you will Be fine. Ice cubes are fantastic for puppies and help with the teething pain and a are lot less dangerous than a majority of the things a dog will pick up and chew on because that’s what puppies do. Let me guess you also don’t let your dog chew on sticks?
For me I add the ice cube into his water bowl and in there he licks it and sometimes he picks it up but slid up back to the bowl so I guess that’s fun way for them to enjoy it
My dogs will eat most fruits and veggies, with the exception of anything that's particularly sour. We've also been adding a tablespoon of canned pumpkin with breakfast on vet recommendation for the fiber, and they are definite fans.
I think it’s important to add, try to get mostly organic foods if you can so there’s not any pesticides. And bone broth contains a lot of sodium so get the no added salt or lower or reduced sodium.
You must buying canned broth. I buy my dog beef marrow bones and boil them until just cooked. I do not add salt. She loves the water/broth and it's full of meat and marrow bits that are good for her.

My Shih-Tzu couldn't control his bowel because of a anxiety attack he experienced after a trip to the Groomer. His Veterinarian assistant told me over the phone to feed him boiled boneless-skinless chicken and white rice until his stomach settles. A pack of chicken breast (8 pieces) costs between $8-10 per package. Along with a half cup of 'Ceasars' dog food, that one pack of chicken will last about 2 weeks. Needless to say, he's a very, very happy Shih-Tzu!🐕😉🐕😄
Some things the videos missed out about chicken. Chickens in the EU and UK are vaccinated against salmonella, however you can also freeze raw chicken to kill bacteria and dogs will enjoy it frozen especially on hot days. 2 Chicken bones are only brittle when cooked, raw chicken bones are okay for them to eat.
A couple of things I'd reccomend, that are great for your dog, and while you're at it, are good for people as well. The first is Cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper is excellent for your dog, as it improves circulation, heart health, and helps to reduce inflammation, which is great if your dog is older and suffers from arthritis, something an old lab of mine had, and Cayenne pepper helped him with immensely. I'd reccomend giving it to them in capsule form, and starting off with a low grade first, like breaking open a pill and dumping half of it out, and slowly increase it from there, so their system can adjust to it. The second thing I reccomend is Chia seeds. You can by some meat, and mix the chia seeds into it, and role it up into a little ball and give it to them, as Chia seeds are a good source of iron, and have other health benefits.
My sister's little dog loves carrots. Give her a baby carrot for a treat and watch her crunch it right up! 😄 It's good to know that these are not only good but good for her.

My Havachon's diet started when she was a pup, she simply couldn't tolerate wet dog food dry or kibble, so I started cooking for her. Rice became a base, mixed with yogurt and a bit of cooked chopped chicken, later adding some of what ever I was cooking. and as she healed I just cooked extra for her. She loves steak, calves liver, chicken and salmon. Sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, blueberries, oranges, watermelon, rice, pasta, stir fry, Mexican, Italian most soups and stews stews, poached eggs, but will only eat scrambled with Salsa. She doesn't like cooked or canned beans.🤣🤣 I cook with EVO YES, I've heard all the lectures and read all the recalls! Shine will soon be 18 years old,...she still runs up and down the stairs, loves her walks and riding shotgun. What we eat is a choice, we make several times a day, so make good ones! I'm not feeding her offal and risking her life, we don't have to be victims of advertising. Now they have "human grade" dog food, very expensive!! I can cook ahead and freeze meals of leftovers for her. Nobody, man or beast... gets the needed phytochemicals and nutrients from over-processed foods with preservatives and a few vitamins thrown in. She lets me know when it's dinner time...she comes in the office and wants me to follow her!
I think my Pablo got tired of Peanut butter. He used to love it. He loves milk! I always give him boiled chicken with white rice. Good to know about the bone broth! I eat it a lot.
What age are you talking about? Until the puppy gets at about 9 months, it should be food that is for his age group. After that, you can give it whatever you want but in proper portions.
Pineapple is also a great for dogs that eat there own poo😦 yes people it happens. (Typically with dogs that don't chew their food)The pineapple comes out with a smell that detours the dog from eating it
We had puppies and we tried to get them to eat pineapple to get them to stop but they wouldn’t so instead we gave it to mom and when she’d go the smell must’ve deterred them from going after their own or each other
My daughters dog is a Boston terrier and she likes to eat her poop it's so gross and then they wanna kiss you, ugh gross 🤢 I tried everything to get her to stop. Unless I get to and yell no before she eats it. I just don't get it. I didn't know pineapple was good for dogs and now that I know it is I'll try and give her some. Hopefully she'll eat it. Thanks for that tip!!!!!
Thanks for this content. Protect the pups, y'all! In addition to the no-no foods already discussed in this video, NEVER GIVE YOUR DOG: Macadamia nuts, Black walnuts, Pecans(hell, pretty much any nut besides unsalted peanuts, just to be safe), Asparagus, Tomatoes, Leeks, Chives, Shallots, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cherries, Chocolate, Raw potatoes, or Caffeinated drinks.
After further research, they are less dangerous than I thought. As long as the tomatoes are ripe and don't have vine or leaves attached, they should be OK for most dogs.
I have had three dogs and strangely, all of them were allergic to rice. A doberman and two English pointers. It caused significant digestive problems. I know that vets think it's okay but be cautious. From experience I know; not always. I also had a friend (human) who was also highly allergic to rice. She would get very ill if she ate it.
@@SherMusicianrice is great for them esp when having GI issues.. you give rice and pumpkin for diarrhea or upset stomach until they’re back to normal. unless ofc they’re allergic
I don't know if it's good for dogs to eat but I had a mulberry tree in my yard and my schnauzer just loved them. Always knew when the tree was dropping fruit, his poop would be full of the seeds.

When the peanut butter is all gone, we always give the empty jar to our dog. It’s a special treat that keeps her busy trying to lick all the sides clean, and the jar is too big for her to get her teeth around so she can’t crush or break the plastic. It becomes a great toy for the day too as she’ll carry it around everywhere lol!
When I first got my dog they insisted on Eucanuba dry food $30 for a 1Kg bag. He ate it once so I fed him chicken - he loved it. He went to live my parents later & he tried different foods until they cooked for him - he had his dry food to snack on (he would eat a bit here & now) but was never over weight. I used to give him a tiny piece of cheese & if I cooked a roast dinner he had pumpkin / potato mashed as a treat. He lived years beyond his breed & a stroke caused him to suffer so I did the best thing & let him go to sleep one last time. It was far cheaper cooking for him & I know if I get another one the added diet I would allow him.
Just a caution... my 2 Shih Tzu are spoiled beyond belief. If I have a steak they wind up getting 2/3 of it. They have been on raw and human food all their lives without a single problem. My teacup will eat pretty much any vegetable steamed but my miniature is more cautious. Just a note. I take a meat tenderizer and pulverize chicken bones that come in thighs, wings and breasts. My vet said the pulverized RAW bones are ok.
My Anna makes a cheese and tuna bake for me (Ik it’s a weird combo) but me and my dog love it so my nana puts a small amount in her dish and Rosie just eats the lot.
I love that you share with the public to let them know what to not and should feed pets because this could be very helpful such as cats and milk shown in cartoons cats are lactose intolerant and can't digest milk very well and people knowing stuff like this can change pets and everyone's household and it's so nice to know this information and to know that people are able to know what not and should do I love that I know that people out there want to help ❤️
Should I feel bad that I used to give my cat some ice cream? It never made her sick and she loved it. Keep in mind that I only gave it to her in small amounts and I learned the hard way that milk was bad for her, so I shared my ice cream with her instead and she loved it. I'm lactose intolerant, so I understand that feeling that comes after drinking milk. At the time, I thought ice cream was better since neither of us got sick.
My dog is almost 14 yrs old and there are several different medications I have to give her every day now and I sometimes use peanut butter to get her meds into her and she sucks it right down when I put it in peanut butter.
My dogs enjoy boiled Brussel sprouts, milk, yogurt, rice, cheese, and their doggy chews. The dental chews, although expensive, really help with the teeth and one dog is almost ten and the other almost eight and have never had their teeth cleaned. Vet said "don't need it." Oh, they like bananas too.
Parsley is apparently really good for dogs. I cook a mixture of beef mince, liver, pumpkin and Parsley for my great dane and add that to her kibble. She loves it and is one of the few danes i know of who's ribs don't stick out. She's allergic to chicken so i can't use that.
Cabot 10% milk fat plain yogurt Is my cats’ and dogs’ favorite and they’re not itchy any more. I love it also. It’s very good for us. It is not the same as milk, which has no probiotic qualities.

Not mentioned but something our dogs inexplicably love: broccoli! I was skeptical when a friend told me years ago that his American Eskimo went nuts for broccoli, but it was true. Both our Irish Setter and Miniature Poodle seem to like broccoli just as much as carrots!
My border terrier loves his broccoli.....we share🤣🤣
That’s great to know. I love bricolli and always have lots in the house. Thanks.
Oh weather here is weird. Yesterday so cold and strong winds. Today a little warmer but still strong winds.
They like green peas to
I had a same feeling of the weather in Melbourne
Peanut butter with a birch sweeter is the same as xylotal so check & make sure your not give them either
I learned a better diet for myself watching this🙂
You a dog????
So do I
@@obthree2830 I do to and figure the added expense of food is much better than spending it at the vet.
Loved this video! Great info for dog owners! :) Ours go crazy for mango treats!

@@jakethedog4397 mine too. With broccoli. She enjoys it sparingly, though.
No offence but mmmmmmkayyyy! ❤
Animals aren’t religious

For my dog's lunch we cook white rice with chicken liver or heart with chicken and a pinch of turmeric... I previously my mom said adding a pinch to a turmeric their food is a natural antibiotic that builds a dog's immunity... Is it ok??
ua-cam.com/video/JGdbSa2PAZg/v-deo.html
Yes I give my dog rice with chicken or beef with turmeric cooked together .
Avocado and grapes? Never knew that they were bad for dogs.
Thank you
Even cooked grapes, like baked goods with raisins, are still highly toxic.
@CL McCartney sure about that? A study done at Loyola Marymount University showed that urban coyote will eat almost anything. Even leaving fallen fruit on your yard could lead them to seeing it as a food source. They are actually destructive to watermelon fields.
My dog used to pick and eat them off the vine..she also picked apples and pears
VERY informative, thank you!
Lol that is so funny u mentioned what u feed your pet. I feed mine the same.
I feed my dog the same. He likes the pot roast, beef stew, etc. I’ve never fed him the pate’.
Wow! Such great Information!! Very helpful
Just pay attention to your dog and you will
Be fine.

One of mine goes ape for yogurt.
My pup loves yogurt!
My dogs will eat most fruits and veggies, with the exception of anything that's particularly sour. We've also been adding a tablespoon of canned pumpkin with breakfast on vet recommendation for the fiber, and they are definite fans.
I don't think sour foods are good for dogs, but what do I know? I'm not a vet.
My doggo really likes pumpkin, too.
I think it’s important to add, try to get mostly organic foods if you can so there’s not any pesticides. And bone broth contains a lot of sodium so get the no added salt or lower or reduced sodium.
For example, non-hydrogenated organic peanut butter.
Yep but also high sodium doesn’t got to always be a problem if consumed with a potassium source. Potassium flushes out excess sodium and inversely
You can buy organic unsalted Bone broth
You must buying canned broth. I buy my dog beef marrow bones and boil them until just cooked. I do not add salt. She loves the water/broth and it's full of meat and marrow bits that are good for her.
No offence, agreed if it was affordable, it is not. Even every day vegetables are not economically possible for every day family.

Geez, what happened at the groomer's? I was thinking about becoming a groomer when I finish therapy, but now, I'm not so sure...😨
My pooch needs a special hypoallergenic food. But he does enjoy fresh veggies, fruits, and homemade dog friendlyfood baked goods. 🥰
Wow this will help in future like ill make a hear out of rice if i love my dog and prepare a chiken if he /she was a good boy or girl or on birthday
Great info. Thanks

Hello Marie how’s the weather over there
My Havachon's diet started when she was a pup, she simply couldn't tolerate wet dog food dry or kibble, so I started cooking for her.
My beautiful lab LOVES a nice filet mignon with a sweet potato.
I think my Pablo got tired of Peanut butter. He used to love it. He loves milk! I always give him boiled chicken with white rice. Good to know about the bone broth! I eat it a lot.

what age what type of the food should is to be given for dog to all breads?
Hopefully she'll eat it. why is tomato on the list?
Our babies go nuts for them, though I only give them very ocasionally and no more than 2 each.

Most of these I already knew. One I didn't know is the one about xylitol. I know it's used in some chewing gums but not in some peanut butters.
