Went through all the steps , got continuity on all points. Assumed motor was burned out. Plugged it back in pulled off the start knob by accident pushed the protruding pin and she fired up 😅. Stuffed a little piece of tin foil in the start knob cavity to take up extra space and the dryer works like day one. Oh well, at least I learned what to look for in the future. Video deserves multiple thumbs up

For anyone with a similar unit who is attempting to interpret the wiring diagram that came with it, he is reading the wrong half of the paper. The bottom half of the page is for a gas unit and the one in the video is an electric unit so the diagram for the unit in the video would be found at the top of that page, not the bottom. Not trying to be a jerk here, just clearing up that the top and bottom of that page show two different units.
The portion of the wiring that he refers to in the video is the same from electric to gas, but anyone watching this who actually pulls that tech slip should take note so they don't become REALLY confused
I'd recommend that the timer motor and switch, drive motor switch and motor windings be looked at as well. Hope this helps someone, and thanks for making this video informative and easy to follow along with.

Cost me a total of $5.57 to fix my dryer. You saved me well over $400.00! Thanks for a great video. Concise information distributed slow enough for me to follow along but not so slow that I felt the need to Fast Forward. Well done.

Thank you for this video! Very helpful for a fairly non-handy person. I picked up a multimeter for about $15, sort of learned how to use it, and found I had a faulty thermal fuse. I replaced it and the thermostat for $13, and it started right up. You saved me a bunch of $$$ and unwanted stress. Again, much appreciated!

$25 later our dryer is fixed thanks to you!! Thank y'all so much for this video! We were literally ABOUT to walk out the door when I thought about checking it out further real quick.
Not even 5 minutes into your video we learned how to fix what I suspected was the issue all along! A great big $700 THANK YOU!!!

Thanks for the breakdown and troubleshooting guidance! Even after buying a multimeter for testing I saved a lot of money and time vs a repair call (and now have a multimeter).
Pointing to the wiring diagram helped me see it was a problem with the timer. Opened it up after replacing and sure enough one of the contact terminals was scorched

We have 2 laundry rooms in our house. One laundry room is on the first floor and the other one is upstairs. We have only used the laundry room on the first floor about 20 times in 15 years and now the dryer will not start. I was going to call a repair person to fix it but now, I believe that I will do it myself. Thank you very much for this video.

What can I say? AWESOME. If not the best video I have seen on dryer issues. 👍👍 I have to admit I was getting sick of watching dryer videos about the same old same old. But the fact that you used a schematic to locate and test the connections made my day.

My dryer wouldn't start. Usually I'll pay someone $100-$200 or buy a new cheap dryer for around $400. I did what you said and it was the thermo fuse. Only cost me to fix it for $6. Thank you very much!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to show us all how to troubleshoot a dryer, I have done all that you did and the timer is bad at the end which is not beeping as everything else did before it. Just the call out alone was $75 and that was just to come to the house, I just watched another video and found out how to check a motor on another dryer and was able to repair that , I cant believe how easy it was to repair the motor in maybe and hours time, so I am sure replacing my timer will be easy lol.. thanks again.

Thank you for the tutorial. Got it working thanks to you. It was thermal fuse at the bottom of the thermostat that shuts the machine off once it gets too hot. I had an extra dryer laying around and so I salvaged the parts to get it working. I also replaced the thermostat because the wire was brittle causing a break. It's all brand new again!!

Thanks for the tips. Last week I found and tested the fuse. Tested it by bypassing it temporarily, taping to the two leads together directly. The unit kicked on, so I knew it was the fuse. Replaced it with a new one. Job done. Did three loads of laundry. Waited four days. Now the dryer won't go on again. This time, I tested the fuse the same way - by bypassing - and it still wouldn't start by bypassing the fuse.
Kind of stuck now. If it was the fuse the first time, what would cause it to go dead again just a few loads later? Especially if it's not the fuse. I'm thinking the thermostat because I didn't replace that. I'll buy an Ohm meter tonight and use it to test the on-off switch, too. Also, I have gone through all the venting and the dryer and removed anything that could potentially clog things and cause an overheat.

    • @byrdappliancespecialists3356
      @byrdappliancespecialists3356  5 років тому

Usually the fuse goes out again if the venting is clogged either internally or externally. If it's not starting after, rarely, the motor was going bad and overamped the fuse... rarely... the other main issues are win the video. Good luck

Great Video. I'd like to add one thing that might help someone. If your belt breaks or you happen to be trying to test the motor without the drum in place, the motor will not run. There is a switch connected to the belt's idler pulley arm. When you lift the arm (as if there was belt tension on it) you can hear the switch click. I would also imagine that this is yet another switch that could fail. We have a Whirlpool GEQ9800PW2.
