I guess I grew up on an old dirt road
Pedal to the metal, always did what I was told
'Til I found out that my brand-new clothes
Came second hand from the rich kids next door
When I grew up fast, I guess I grew up mean
There's a thousand things inside my head I wish I ain't seen
And now I just wander through a real bad dream
Feelin' like I'm coming apart at the seams
But thank you Jack Daniel's Old Number Seven
Tennessee whiskey got me drinking in heaven
Angels start to look good to me
They're gonna have to deport me to the fiery deep
Thank you Jack Daniel's Old Number Seven
Tennessee whiskey got me drinking in heaven
I know I can't stay here too long
'Cause I can't go a week without doin' wrong
Without doin' wrong (Old Number Seven)
Without doin' wrong (drinkin' in heaven)
Without doin' wrong (Old Number Seven)
(Drinkin' in heaven)
So I'm sitting as the bar stool it starts to grow roots
I'm feelin' like an old worn out pair of shoes
Tell me what is it that I should do
And I'm swimming in the liquor only halfway through
So I'm watching as his wings spread as wide as could be
Come on now and wrap them around me
'Cause all I want to do now is fall to sleep
Come down here and lay next to me
Thank you Jack Daniel's Old Number Seven
Tennessee whiskey got me drinking in heaven
Up here the bottle never runs dry
And you never wake up with those tears in your eyes
Thank you Jack Daniel's Old Number Seven

Angels start to look good to me

This song is amazing. Alcohol is always that old friend that you know is bad to hang around, but every time you meet, he greets you with a warm hug and a smile. But stay too long and he'll ruin your life.
just bombed two exams in 24 hours and couldn't agree more
I agree ben
It's not anyone's f*cking friend. I've been a drunk since the summer of 1982 and now it's 40 years later. It's not a friend. Grow a brain. It's a killer and it goes right for the Central Nervous System. It messes up everything in its path, then it concentrates on other parts of the brain. I started drinking regularly when I was two. I'm 42 now, so I've fought with this beast you call a friend for 40 years now. After kindergarten, I was drinking martinis handmade from an old cocktail waitress in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm a real alcoholic and that sh*t isn't my friend, but I'm drawn to it. Alcohol is a frenemy and we fight often. It's not a friend. It's a pseudo friend, a killer, a controller. It's too much and many things all at once, but it is nobody's goddamned friend. It won't let me go. Keep your kids away from it. It's not funny, cute, or entertaining. It's debilitating and disabling. No, dear, it's not a friend. It's too demanding and controlling to be a friend. Live and learn, you, but learn well before you put out your advice. It's important that you understand this thing thoroughly before you dole out advice. God bless you so much for caring enough to toss in your two cents, though. It's big of you and it's thoughtful. Learn more and continue to. Thanks for trying to help, though. It matters. Your support matters. Please keep learning. Awareness is important. However, above all else, don't give a toddler, a child, or a teenager booze. It doesn't make you cool, it makes you an assh*le. Keep learning and God bless you in the process.
@@legobro8753 You'll get it, and you'll pick yourself up and improve. Just move forward and do better. So long as you refuse to give up, and continue to rise again when you fall, you haven't failed.
I know that may seem like a platitude, but it's so much more than that I promise.

Awsome song.... But unfortunately "i drink alone"

Its amazing how songs bring back memories. I used to work in a casino back in 2012. It was a miserable job. I worked in one of the camera monitor rooms. I spent about 6 hours a day, staring at coworkers trying to find something to get them in trouble. I hated doing that, but I had another camera room that watched me, to make sure I was doing my job (I got written up a few times). I REALLY needed the money, so I stayed until I could find a better job (I did thankfully).
Every day after work, I would sit in my car and stare at the lights on the nearby interstate, listening to this song, and feeling absolutely hollow as a human being.
Its so weird. That was such a miserable time in my life, but listening to this song now feels so pleasantly nostalgic.
The question is, who watched the guy who watched you?
@@spacelord782 The gaming commission.
@@shoulung I come from a long line of WV coal miners and PA steel mill and iron workers. My mother grew up dirt floor poor back in the 60s with 7 children in the family. She ended up working in a casino and would tell us stories about people who won 70,000 and were still in the hole for the night..that always blew my mind. A lot of people around here work their ass off just to make less than that in a year.
@@Steve-1269 there were so many crazy and sad stories from the casino. Like how a bunch of the regulars were literally homeless. They lived in their cars and gambled all day. The casino enabled it by comping them free food and occasionally a hotel room. But they would gamble away every penny they could get their hands on, over the years, the amount of money they lost was in the millions.
Or the shockingly common occurrence of people not wanting to leave their machines to use the toilet. They would just shit their pants and keep playing. Security would then ask them to Leave when others would complain of the smell.
It was a wild inhumane place. I'm so glad I'm not there anymore.
@@shoulung yup, some of them lived in RVs in the parking lot. What's worse than people not going to the bathroom was when old people would pass away there..people would be trying to get on whatever machine they were playing because there was still money in it..I've heard some pretty sickening stories.

I can not tell you what I do for a living.
I can say that the first time I saw this was was by an individual with schizophrenia, this individual told me that his doctor had shown it to them. This individual showed it to me " because it would help me understand the condition better".
I listened to it for about a week none stop after that. And after the research I did in to the artist, and the reason he writes these songs. Which I can not strongly recommend enough for you to do yourself.
I can also say ( the reason I am here making this comment) that the other day I was taking part in an update training course, and they played this song.
I can also tell you, that in my job, that when ever I come across someone who needs to hear this song. I play it for them.
Ren, you don't know how many life's you have helped with this song.

When I hear music like this I just remember that my daddy raised me right. Great music. Greater man.
I like the angel of death being a comfort and all the undertones from this song. The writer is drinking to find peace, and he just wants "sleep" he's begging, courting death through the bottle and he's stubborn in his attempts

You don’t know why no one is saying it, but this whole album is just as good as this song. Shades is probably my favorite bluegrass song.
I spent many a night on old dirt roads, with a bottle of Old #7 when I was a teenager. And in the bars as well drinking it as teenager, I looked old enough. This song brings back memories, both good and bad. But that's life, you can't have good times without the bad times. No regrets, I've had a fun life.
A life of regret is one of sadness
Where did you live? Where I live, I still get asked for ID every time I go to buy some.
I’m almost 30.
@QualityPen That was because it was back in the early 80s. And I looked 30. Back then, they didn't ask for ID every time like they do now, in most places.
And if you're still getting asked for ID at almost 30, you're lucky. Because there will come a day when you won't get asked for it.
I think most of us did 😂🥃🍻

smartalek180 it’s been broken for like 3 years now, right? I remember the cause too. A video got around (and it really worked) showing how you could wind up in the kiddie-porn side of the internet.
You just had to make a new account, search “bikini haul” and then click one or two related videos and BOOM time stamps on kids videos where they do yoga challenges or whatever.
THAT is why youtube sucks now and certain vids can’t have comments.. literally PERVERTS. Rather than go after these people, they censored the internet for all.
